Phillies on Medical Care Costs: There are no Magic Cures
2008-03-24 17:09:00
George Phillies for President 2008FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*Phillies on Medical Care Costs : There are no Magic Cures*Worcester, Mass. March 21 -- Libertarian Presidential candidate GeorgePhillies today urged simple steps to reduce the cost of medical insurance."There are no magic cures," Phillies said. "I am proposing Libertarianimprovements in our medical care system. These are changes Americans willactually accept and implement now. Once Americans see these changes work, they will be more ready to trust more radical Libertarian proposals."First, transfer costs should be eliminated. Right now, anyone who comes toa hospital emergency room gets free care even if they don't have healthinsurance. That care is emergency room care, some of the most expensivemedical care there is. Who pays for it? It's a transfer cost, an'administrative cost' charged to your health insurance, which in turn raisesyour rates. Transfer costs exist because Congress passed an unfundedmandate requiring hospitals...
An Easter Message (Christine Smith)
2008-03-23 21:08:00
On this Easter , a time of reflection and contemplation for me, I simply want to share a belief I hold and endeavor to live/practice as it is fundamental to how I wish to relate to others and fundamental to my adherence to libertarian principles: Teach only love, for that is what you are.  We, as libertarians, as individuals, come from many different backgrounds including the religious or spiritual beliefs we may hold or perhaps once held...we are diverse...but the common denominator we all share is our commitment to advancing liberty.  There are often many a practical, logical, pragmatic and therefore powerful argument for each libertarian solution we offer to share with others - and it is they I focus upon most often - but for me, and a few others I’ve had the blessing of meeting, there is also a deep commitment to liberty based upon the ethical, the spiritual, and the moral.  It’s not often something we necessarily have oft the opportunity to share, but today I ...

Libertarian visits a Republican Convention
2008-03-15 23:26:00
Georgia had it's county GOP meetings this weekend.   As some people involved in the Ron Paul campaigns across America know there is an attempt to get those people involved with the political process.I have been active in the Ron Paul campaign in Georgia.Today I went to the Spalding County GOP with the other members that worked on the Ron Paul campaign. The goal is to pull the GOP back to it's roots of smaller government. The Spalding county GOP had slots for 14 delegates to go to the state convention. The Ron Paul people filled 5 of those. We did not hide or try anything underhanded. In fact I made a decision we would do the opposite. We told them who we were and that we had worked hard on the Ron Paul campaign. Our county had the forth best % of 159 counties. If the counties had voted for Paul like they vote Libertarian we should have come in 39 th.Before they voted on sending to the state convention we all had to speak. I told them I had ran as a Libertarian and ha...

Georgia and it's Crazy Blue Laws This is from the www.ajc.comOnly three state ban Sunday beer sales and I live in one of them.Free men should have free choices. The sounds of Sonny: On Sunday beer sales, on killing car taxes — and maybe on a transportation tax, too. Thursday, March 13, 2008, 05:46 PM The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Gov. Sonny Perdue cut loose on members of the House on Thursday, for raising the issue of retail sales of Sunday beer and wine — and for a hefty tax cut that he called “irresponsible.” A House committee on Wednesday took a bill to permit the Sunday sales of beer at the new minor league Braves stadium in Gwinnett, and attached language to permit local referendums on the Sunday sale of beer and wine in grocery and convenience stores. Here’s where the governor explains why Sunday sales are a bad thing. Perdue said the House action “jeopardizes” what he called an economic development matter for Gwinnett. But there’s more. Update on the Georgia Libertarian Convention We had our convention yesterday. I was impressed with how well it went. We had a debate between Wayne Allyn Root and Daniel Imperato.Daniel was our stand up comic relief because he was such a joke.Wayne Root did very well. The guy beside me started asking me question about him during his speech, He said this is the kind of guy we need . He was impressed with he speaking talents and came across very friendly. I would say Wayne Allyn Root won over a lot of Georgia people last night. I would also add Daniel Imperato won nobody over. I did not hear one person talk well about him.The big joke was when he ask Bob Barr to be his VP candidate. We also nominated our statewide candidates for Georgia.Allen Buckley will be our US Senate candidate. John Monds and Brandons Givens will be our PSC candidates. Last night was the first time I had meet John Monds. I was impressed. That might be the race I am most excited about because he lives in ...

2008-02-28 22:29:00
As many of you know (from my previous articles "It's Time To Clean the LP House," and "I Will Not Compromise,"), I am devoted to my libertarian principles and to strengthening and restoring the LP. I want to see the LP become, at every level, an effective tool for achieving liberty. At this time, I believe, the greatest threat to the LP are the people who have infiltrated and hijacked our party for their own agendas (with liberty being far down their list of priorities if at all). Thus, I invite you to listen to an interview conducted with me back in December 2007. --Christine Smith____________________________________ __________________________________PRESS RELEASEYou must hear this interview if you care, are concerned and ever wondered about the future of the LP. Those who have been fighting this fight have just received the reinforcements. This is not a war that will be won overnight. We are in this for the long haul. So what do we need to do.  1. Keep our eye on the ball. Remember this is not about one man or about political parties. It is about liberty and freedom  2 We need to find candidates who will pick up the baton and run with.  3. we have to keep people in touch and active, We need to send out info to act on to the group. we need to schedule events to keep people in focus.  4.We need to educate ourselves, We need to go to campaign schools, ...

Libertarian Leadership Conference in Nevada
2008-02-14 22:59:00
Since so many Libertarian s are asking me if I'm attending the Libertarian leadership conference in Las Vegas this weekend (Feb. 15-17, 2008), the answer is absolutely not...this is because of their requirement that I, as a LP presidential candidate, must pay $500 to participate in the presidential candidate debate. I was disgusted when I was informed of this exploitation of LP presidential candidates and I am not attending because of it.I regret not being there because I was so looking forward to meeting many Libertarian activists, state chairs, and other Libertarian officers and candidates. It is a wonderful idea to bring so many Libertarians together for the purpose of building our party, and I find it deplorable such an important event would be used to make money off of the LP presidential candidates.$500 to be in the presidential debate...and apparently they didn't notify Libertarians attending that's what they required of us, since everyone who has asked me and I've shared i...

2008-02-11 17:00:00
Letter I recieved from Steve KubbyDear friends and fellow Libertarians,This weekend, US Representative Ron Paul announced his intention to"scale back" his campaign for the Republican Party's 2008 presidentialnomination, acknowledged that he is unlikely to win that nomination, and expressly ruled out seeking the nomination of the LibertarianParty or another "third" party. As you are probably aware, I endorsed Dr. Paul's GOP presidentialcampaign, and promised to end my own Libertarian presidentialcandidacy if that campaign was successful. Many of you disagreed withthat decision for various reasons -- reasons which I understand andsympathize with.Be that as it may, I felt compelled to back the play of the vastmajority of my fellow libertarians and Libertarians who, like me, sawin Dr. Paul's campaign a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to advancefreedom. While I certainly have my disagreements with Dr. Paul, I sawno point in putting myself forward as willing to split "the freedomvote...

McCain Coronation Sounds Death Knell for GOP
2008-02-09 23:07:00
Anointing McCain is clearly a major and violent spasm in the death throes of the Republican party.♣ Friday, February 8th As I walked my California precinct last week talking to likely Republican voters, there was a strong response that I received time and again: "Not John McCain!" There were several who emoted audibly as to their distaste for the man and his liberal history in the senate. However, it is now quite evident that the GOP power brokers have chosen to elevate McCain as the anointed nominee, over the vehement protestations of major party pundits like Rush Limbaugh and evangelical leaders like James Dobson. Reports continue to filter in from around the country of what are, at the very very least, highly suspicious circumstances. Mitt Romney's precipitous announcement yesterday that he was stepping down was a very strong indicator of behind-the-scenes maneuvering. This could not have been more evident in his transparently disingenuous speech endorsing ...
