Comment on Bob Barr Blasts McCain, Obama for Supporting National ID, Again
2008-08-03 18:57:00
John McCain and Barack Obama are the same candidates that differ only on semantics. They are both flawed in their views about the role of government. This is why I am voting for Bob Barr in November.

Comment on Boehner's voting comments reflect Republican failures
2008-07-25 15:12:00
Things will get worse with McCain.Things will get much worse with Obama. And that is why I am voting for Obama. For things will only get worse with McCain but they need to get much worse for us to survive as a nation.Of course a statement like that needs an explanation. And I will do so in the form of an analogy. Do you know how to cook a frog? Well, if you put it in a pot of boiling water the frog will quickly jump out. But if you put a frog in a pot of water that is warm and turn up the heat gradually up to boiling the frog will just sit there not even realizing it is being boiled alive.Obama is the one who puts the frog into the hot water and McCain is the one who turns up the heat gradually. With Obama his extremism will cause a backlash so great that America will start electing good leaders to oppose him. It happened in 1980 and it happened in 1994. And it will happen again. But McCain he will really be the death of the Republican Party. As I said above things will get wor...

Where to send donations for the possible Dick Heller Run as a Libertarian

Where to send donations for the possible Dick Heller Run as a Libertarian in D.C.While Heller has not formally, publicly announced he's running, he has been asked and has consented to our circulating petitions to put him on the ballot.  Obviously, help generating donations would be a huge and necessary step!   We hope to have the website go from a petition to more information and taking donations within a week.  For right now, checks can be made to "DC for Heller" and sent to DC for Heller at PO Box 77159, Washington, DC 20013.

It looks like Dick Heller might run for office as a Libertarian This was sent to me from his press guy Heller to register handgun at 9 am Friday, July 18th at 300 Indiana Ave NWWhile Dick Heller followed the instructions to register a handgun given to him earlier this week by the DC metro police, that was not the protocol followed this morning.  No one should have anticipated some confusion on the part of the city.  Therefore, we'll be back tomorrow to exercise our constitutional rights.  The DC Metropolitan Police has posted information on its website:http://www.mpdc.dc.gov/mpdc/cwp/v iew,a,1237,q,547431.asp(some of the information is simplified to the point of being erroneous--such as the implied blanket prohibition on semiautomatic handguns)Unfortunately, this report doesn't explain that Heller followed the instructions given to him and the city's confusion:http://dcist.com/2008/07/17/hel ler_plans_to_run_against_eleanor.phpThe situation is better explained here:ht...

Boehner's voting comments reflect Republican failures
2008-07-23 23:13:00
Boehner's voting comments reflect Republican failures Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis called House Minority Leader John Boehner's (R-OH) comments about wasted votes "a symptom of the same delusion that cost Republicans control in 2006."  Answering a question from Reason's Dave Weigel about Bob Barr at a recent lunch hosted by The American Spectator and Americans for Tax Reform, Boehner stated, "A vote for Bob Barr—you might as well vote for Barack Obama," adding, "if you want to throw your vote away, that's fine, but that's what it would be." Davis said that Boehner's comments "reflect the same fallacy of thought that has put America in its current situation, with neither Republicans or Democrats offering the solutions voters want to hear." "If Boehner is content with simply being elected as the lesser of two evils, then it is apparent that he and his party have failed as public servants," says Davis. "Instead of dismissing third parties as 'long shots...

Bob Barr Blasts District of Columbia, D.C. for Flouting Heller Decision on
2008-07-21 23:13:00
Bob Barr Blasts District of Columbia , D.C. for Flouting Heller Decision on Gun Control July 21, 2008 3:25 pm EST Atlanta, GA -- “Citizens of Washington, D.C. and firearms rights organizations must be prepared to file a quick and clear challenge to the new Washington, D.C. gun control law designed to keep them disarmed,” says Bob Barr, the Libertarian Party candidate for president.  “The City Council is attempting to flout the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in Heller that explicitly affirmed an individual’s right to own firearms. The Council is disingenuously doing this by appearing to legalize gun ownership while restricting the right into ineffectiveness.” For instance, explains Barr, “the District of Columbia will continue to ban semi-automatic weapons, the most common kind of handgun in America. Moreover, residents will be required to keep their guns unloaded and either disassembled or disabled with a trigger lock.  Unfortunately, most criminals aren...

Mike Munger and Bob Barr and the Libertarian party impact on 2008 elections

Libertarian party impact on 2008 elections Here is a link www.enctoday.comJuly 17, 2008 - 10:34PM Barr y Smith Staff Writer  RALEIGH - Libertarian Party candidates likely won't win the presidency or the governor's race this year. But they could be a player in helping determine who will reside in the White House and the Executive Mansion. The State Board of Elections Web page shows that out of the 5.8 million registered voters in the state, only 293 are affiliated with the Libertarian Party. The number will likely grow since the Libertarians have only been a recognized party for a few weeks. They'd been recognized in the past but recently had to go through the cumbersome petition process to regain ballot access. Now that they're on the ballot, there's some sense that their presence could have an effect on a couple of races. In recent decades, the numbers of independent voters have increased. In North Carolina, independents are registered as "unaffiliated." Nearly 1.3 mill...

Barr is always accompanied by handlers whose job is to keep libertarians away from their presidential candidate so they can’t ask him questions about his Big Government positions. Comment on Barr Set to Make Debate Push
2008-07-16 12:25:00
like Ron Paul more than Bob Barr , But there is a movement growing to get these two to join forces. Two popular LP sites are both talking about a BarrPaul ticket. One is Barr Root and the other is Barr Paul 08. This ticket would spell trouble for the Gop for sure. I will leave the link if anyone wants to see http://www.BarrRoot08.com http://www.BarrPaul08.comI would probably vote for a Barr Paul ticket. Because I lean conservative. John McCain hasnt done much to get my vote. If he would be Huckabee on the ticket I would give him serious consideration. I am not excited about anyone yet. No candidate has a sound Energy Plan either. This is disturbing, seeing how we are in an energy Crisis. I am starting to come around to the Pickene Plan (energy Plan.) You can compare his plan to some of the candidates Plans at http://www.tboonepickin.com

Government bailouts of Freddie and Fannie like giving candy to problem chil
2008-07-15 21:10:00
'Let them fail' Government bailouts of Freddie and Fannie like giving candy to problem children "Let them fail," says Libertarian Party spokesperson Andrew Davis, referring to the mortgage institutions Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, who the Bush administration has said it plans to rescue from financial collapse. "Let them fail, and let them learn from their mistakes on their own dime," says Davis. "Bailing out these two institutions will only delay the inevitable outcome of any financial firm insulated from the market by government backing. The long run damage of continuing a policy of bailouts far exceeds any short term woes in letting the market consume failing institutions." The Libertarian Party is calling for an end to government bailouts, which it equates to nothing more than welfare for businessmen.  The Party believes that government support of these institutions decreases the incentive to make responsible decisions, and unfairly socializes the risk--putting taxpayers...

Barr Set to Make Debate Push Guys this article is in the magazine Politics it used to be called Campaign and Elections. If you ever want to learn more about campaigns you need to subscribe to this magazine. I will tell you they are one of the reasons I had had success with the Garrett Hayes campaign in 2006. If you do not read this magazine you are not serious about politics periodhttp://www.campaignsandelections.co m/stories/?StoryID=1FB19EC4-1422-17E0-F8B 8758069D64A10 By Doug Daniels 07/13/08   In 1992, convinced that Reform Party candidate Ross Perot could prove a political asset, both President George H.W. Bush and Arkansas Gov. Bill Clinton were eager to include the Texas billionaire in the presidential debates. And many observers attribute Perot's eventual 20 percent on Election Day to his folksy debate performances. This year, with former Georgia Rep. Bob Barr polling at 6 percent nationally, according to a recent Zogby survey, the Libertarian nominee is se...

Libertarian Presidential Bob Barr Candidate Will File Lawsuit Against Oklah
2008-07-15 20:11:00
Libertarian Presidential Candidate Bob Barr  Will File Lawsuit Against Oklahomahttp://www.ksbitv.com/home/254815 89.html A 2008 presidential hopeful speaks out against Oklahoma's election policies.  The Libertarian Party's Presidential nominee, Bob Barr, will file a lawsuit to overturn the state's ballot access requirement that would put his name on the November ballot.  Oklahoma requires a candidate to get about 40,000 signatures to be added to the ballot.  Barr's campaign says they are on track in every other state because they require less than 10,000 names.  Barr says it's unconstitutional. "We believe that is unfair, we believe that the citizens of Oklahoma ought to have the same rights in terms of access to voting for the office of President and Vice President as the other states and the District of Columbia," Libertarian Candidate for President, Bob Barr explained. Barr turned in close to 10,000 petition signatures, and will be running for the libe...

Bob Barr In Time   Wayne Allyn Root, left, Mike Gravel, moderator David Weigel, Bob Barr and Vern McKinley engage in a Libertarian Party debate in Washington, D.C., May 20, 2008. Jay Mallin / Bloomberg News / Landov   With his belly hiding his belt, with his red suspenders and white beard, Glen Parshall is a dead ringer for Santa Claus, except for the snub-nosed pistol he keeps tucked in his back pocket. Parshall spends his days behind the gun cage of Bargain Pawn, in a roughneck North Las Vegas neighborhood littered with homeless encampments, Catholic charities and pawnshops. It's no Bellagio. But he is a gentle man who treats his customers with respect, whether hoodlum or homeowner. He knows everything there is to know about weapons and is a stickler for the byzantine rules of gun ownership--the waiting periods, the background checks, the ATF callbacks and information requests. But just because he obeys the rules doesn't mean he likes them. Parshall is dissatis...

Bob Barr and Wayne Allyn Root   Today Garrett Hayes and I interviewed Wayne Allyn Root. I should have this posted sometime this week. Bob Barr is by far the Best candidate on the ballot here in Georgia. Suspect wants troopers to prove they can sniff out pot

Suspect wants troopers to prove they can sniff out potBy BILL RANKINThe Atlanta Journal-ConstitutionPublished on: 07/08/08 Two North Georgia troopers say they followed their noses to the 10 pounds of marijuana stashed in the trunk of a car they'd stopped on I-75. Troopers Jeff Adamson and Kevin Turner said they caught a whiff of "raw marijuana" from within Jarmane Vernon Knox's car. This gave them probable cause to search, find the pot and then arrest Knox and his passenger, Derrick Mikes. But Knox, of Chattanooga, claims that something about the arrest smells funny. Specially trained dogs are often used to sniff out illicit drugs, but is the human nose that sensitive? The dispute has spawned a novel challenge in a court motion filed in Gordon County Superior Court. It seeks a court order to have the marijuana put back inside a trash bag and placed in the trunk of a random car in the courthouse parking lot. The troopers would then be given the chance to prove they can...
