George Phillies for President 2008FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*Barack Obama Calls For Segregation*Worcester, Mass, April 7: Libertarian Presidential candidate GeorgePhillies today blasted Senator Barack Obama for endorsing segregation basedon sexual orientation in a recent campaign missive to LGBTQ voters from theObama campaign. From:http://my.barackoba ma.com/page/ community/ post/alexokrent/ gGggJS :Obama: I personally believe that civil unions represent the best way tosecure that equal treatment."It's particularly disappointing, though not surprising, that the Democraticfront-runner would embrace separate and unequal' while providing anOrwellian discourse on 'equality,'" said Dr. Phillies."Obama provides a laundry list of other things he promises he'll try, maybepossibly, if he can get around to it, to get done as president:Obama: Unlike Senator Clinton, I support the complete repeal of the Defenseof Marriage Act (DOMA) a position I have held since before arriving in theU.S. Senate...

Comment on Bob Barr announces his Run
2008-04-06 11:13:00
Bob Barr will make a fine Libertarian Party Presidential candidate, perhaps the best ever, even eclipsing Ed Clark's high water mark of nearly 1 million votes (1.1%) in 1980.Problem is the Party is in the grips of leftwing Anti-War Libertarians (many outright Anarchists), thes days. Most of the Pro-Defense wing has left for the GOP into the Republican Liberty Caucus, Club for Growth, ect...Barr will get a substantial vote among just the hardcore Libertarian set - base of about 500,000.But if he hopes to increase that into the millions, he'll need to walk a fine line on foreign policy, careful not to run away Pro-Defense libertarians who might be inclined to vote for him.Just today we learn of yet another report about to be released showing how the Surge in Iraq has been a stunning success since September. If Barr takes the Ron Paul non-interventionist/pacifist line and claims that the War is a "failure" he'll end up looking foolish and run off a great many potential libertarian R...

I work with your son-in-law, Scott Thompson, and think very highly of him. He told me abut your announcement and your web sight. I supported and voted for you when you ran for office in GA. I have watched your video and agree with what you had to say; American needs another chose other than what has been presented to by the two major parties. I look forward to speaking up for you in your exploratory effort.

Barr may run as a Libertarian, but I'm not sure Libertarians will want him as their nominee. He has a lot of small government ideas, but he's made it pretty clear lately that he's still a committed conservative.

Bob Barr on XM
2008-04-03 20:54:00
Bob Barr on XM radio On my way home I was listening to an interview with Bob Barr. It was great. The question that I liked the most was the one they ask about if he was going to run as a Independent. He said NO! He said he will decide soon if he is going to run at all and we he does decide it will be as a Libertarian. He said he had been a Libertarian for years and he loves the party and the people in it. He also talked how both parties had lost their way and the Libertarian party was the only party of smaller government. If I was a betting man I would say Bob Barr will announce that he is running.I do have my ear close to the ground here in Georgia but then again I also said Ron Paul would run as a Libertarian. I have been happy with the way the race has been going for the Libertarians lately. I believe you could make the argument that the Ron Paul campaign has  been the root cause to this excitement.I believe Bob Barr and Mike Gra...

Ed Thompson wins election for Mayor
2008-04-02 10:22:00
Ed Thompson wins election for Mayor Tomah, WI – April 1, 2008 - Charismatic Libertarian Ed Thompson won Tuesday’s mayoral election by nearly a two-to- one margin over incumbent Chuck Ludeking.  The vote count was 970 to 494. Speaking from his Tomah supper club, the Teepee, Thompsonsaid he found about 50 dusty yard signs in a storage shed, leftovers from hisprevious campaign for mayor in 2000.  Healso dug up four highway signs from his Wisconsingubernatorial campaign of 2002.  Thompson spent $10 for black and white paint to makeappropriate changes to the highway signs. He said, “I paid my handyman, Terry Waddell, another $10 to clean up andpaint the signs.”      Thompson referred to his frugal $20 campaign as a metaphorfor how government should be run.  In hisprevious term as mayor he cut city expenses by 13% while improving services tothe community.   Thompson says that large expenditures should be decided inreferendum...

George Phillies for President 2008 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE     Phillies Defends Freedom of Religion Against Republican Attacks Worcester, Mass, April 1:  Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies urged Americans not to repeat a sad error in our nation's history.  "Three centuries ago, Massachusetts hanged nineteen people for witchcraft.  The people of Massachusetts have long since realized that witchcraft trials are a travesty of justice. "Witchcraft trials were three centuries ago," Phillies continued.   "Our Constitution enshrines freedom of religion.  Do our elected officials want to return to 1690?  Alas, some Republicans do. "In Summer 1999, Congressional bigots campaigned for Army persecution of members of the Wiccan faith. Republican Senator Thurmond demanded Wiccan services be excluded from the military.  In an ABC News interview, then-Governor George Bush announced 'I don't think that witchcraft is a religion.'...

2008-04-01 11:09:00
George Phillies for President 2008FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*America Has Only One Free Speech Zone*Worcester, Mass, March 31: Libertarian Presidential candidate GeorgePhillies today condemned the use of 'free speech zones' that hidedemonstrators from the press. "The United States has only one freezone, Phillies said. "Our free speech zone is called America. It starts atthe Pacific, crosses shining hills and amber waves of grain to the Atlantic, and extends to wherever Old Glory flies or American citizens stand. Thosewho say otherwise are speaking against our country."In recent years, Presidential candidates have used Federal secret policebodyguards to herd demonstrators away from the press intoso-called 'freespeech zones.' Many of those zones have been cages surrounded by fencing orbarbed wire. Once demonstrators are locked up, candidates can pretend noone disagrees with them, because opponents are out of sight."A candidate who hides from his critics behind lines of barbed wire is acr...

More about our Crazy Blue Laws In Georgia
2008-03-28 12:15:00
Georgia's Governor Perdue is just wrong. Again in Georgia religion wins out over freedom. Here is the article from www.ajc.com from our Governor. In his first sentence of his article he says do no harm. I would say taking away my freedom is harm. This is why I hate the Theocrats. They do and will use the force of the government to take my freedom. At the end of the day they will shot you over a beer. Gov. Sonny Perdue has just put out an op-ed style piece intended for use by Sunday newspapers across Georgia, on the topic of allowing local communities to decide whether the retail sale of beer, wine, and liquor on the Christian Sabbath should be permitted. No mention of the governor’s support for the portion of the bill that would permit Sunday beer sales in a Gwinnett Braves minor league stadium, and no “You should plan ahead” argument. The governor emphasizes public safety this time. We hear Sunday sales proponents will argue that the New Mexico data cited by t...

George Phillies for President 2008FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*Phillies: End Racist Immigration Quotas*Worcester Mass, March 26: Libertarian Presidential candidate GeorgePhillies today called for an end to national quotas on immigration. "Weshould not have one rule for people born in China and another rule forpeople born in Lichtenstein, " Phillies said. " 'National quotas' are thinlydisguised race quotas, with rules depending on the color of an immigrant'sskin. All immigrants truly belong to one race: the human race. That's theLibertarian message.""A century ago," Phillies noted, "Many Americans were afraid ofimmigration. They were afraid that our customs and way of life would beburied in a torrent of faces that neither spoke our language nor understoodwhat makes Americans American. Thanks to radio, television, and theinternet, new immigrants learn our language and laws far faster than eventhirty years ago."Phillies emphasized that immigration is a great strength of our Republic."Fore...

Mike gravel is running for President as a Libertarian
2008-03-26 13:28:00
Mike gravel has joined the Libertarian President ial Race. This came from www.thirdpartywatch.com Gravel For President 2008A Personal Message from Mike Gravel Dear friend, I wanted to update you on my latest plans before news gets out. Today, I am announcing my plan to join the Libertarian Party, because the Democratic Party no longer represents my vision for our great country. I wanted my supporters to get this news first, because you have been the ones who have kept my campaign alive since I first declared my candidacy on April 17, 2006. The fact is, the Democratic Party today is no longer the party of FDR. It is a party that continues to sustain war, the military-industrial complex and imperialism—all of which I find anathema to my views. By and large, I have been repeatedly marginalized in both national debates and in media exposure by the Democratic leadership, which works in tandem with the corporate interests that control what we read and hear in the media. I look forwa...

Phillies on Medical Care Costs: There are no Magic Cures
2008-03-24 17:09:00
George Phillies for President 2008FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE*Phillies on Medical Care Costs : There are no Magic Cures*Worcester, Mass. March 21 -- Libertarian Presidential candidate GeorgePhillies today urged simple steps to reduce the cost of medical insurance."There are no magic cures," Phillies said. "I am proposing Libertarianimprovements in our medical care system. These are changes Americans willactually accept and implement now. Once Americans see these changes work, they will be more ready to trust more radical Libertarian proposals."First, transfer costs should be eliminated. Right now, anyone who comes toa hospital emergency room gets free care even if they don't have healthinsurance. That care is emergency room care, some of the most expensivemedical care there is. Who pays for it? It's a transfer cost, an'administrative cost' charged to your health insurance, which in turn raisesyour rates. Transfer costs exist because Congress passed an unfundedmandate requiring hospitals...
An Easter Message (Christine Smith)
2008-03-23 21:08:00
On this Easter , a time of reflection and contemplation for me, I simply want to share a belief I hold and endeavor to live/practice as it is fundamental to how I wish to relate to others and fundamental to my adherence to libertarian principles: Teach only love, for that is what you are.  We, as libertarians, as individuals, come from many different backgrounds including the religious or spiritual beliefs we may hold or perhaps once held...we are diverse...but the common denominator we all share is our commitment to advancing liberty.  There are often many a practical, logical, pragmatic and therefore powerful argument for each libertarian solution we offer to share with others - and it is they I focus upon most often - but for me, and a few others I’ve had the blessing of meeting, there is also a deep commitment to liberty based upon the ethical, the spiritual, and the moral.  It’s not often something we necessarily have oft the opportunity to share, but today I ...

Libertarian visits a Republican Convention
2008-03-15 23:26:00
Georgia had it's county GOP meetings this weekend.   As some people involved in the Ron Paul campaigns across America know there is an attempt to get those people involved with the political process.I have been active in the Ron Paul campaign in Georgia.Today I went to the Spalding County GOP with the other members that worked on the Ron Paul campaign. The goal is to pull the GOP back to it's roots of smaller government. The Spalding county GOP had slots for 14 delegates to go to the state convention. The Ron Paul people filled 5 of those. We did not hide or try anything underhanded. In fact I made a decision we would do the opposite. We told them who we were and that we had worked hard on the Ron Paul campaign. Our county had the forth best % of 159 counties. If the counties had voted for Paul like they vote Libertarian we should have come in 39 th.Before they voted on sending to the state convention we all had to speak. I told them I had ran as a Libertarian and ha...
