2008-05-18 22:43:00 Open Letter to fellow Georgian Ron Paul Supporters :Many of you already know me as someone who worked very hard in support of Rep. Paul in his quest for the GOP nomination for President, that is, up until the business end of the GOP started. With the assistance of some very dedicated individuals, we were able to give Dr. Paul the highest percentage of votes in the state in our area of concentration, Athens/Clarke county Georgia. After reading the AJC article by Aaron Gould Sheinin this morning on how awful you all were treated at the GOP state convention, I was compelled to write this letter. For some of you, this past year was the first time you became active in politics. Others have been at it for a while. Many came to recognize some time ago that it is futile to try to change the BIG government parties from within. I can be counted among those with this belief, which is why I did not participate once the business portion ...

Open letter from Lance Lamberton about Bob Barr
2008-05-17 23:45:00 Dear Libertarian Party Delegate: As a delegate from the great state of Georgia, I am writing to ask that you vote for former Georgia Congressman Bob Barr as our nominee for President of these United States. I first became acquainted with Mr. Barr when I moved to Georgia in 2001 and he was serving at that time as a Republican member of Congress. My impression of him was that he was a strong social conservative who had an impassioned commitment to our fundmental right to privacy from the government as guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. In other words, he didn't fit the typical social conservative mold which is more than eager to sacrifice liberty for security at any cost, as witnessed by the Patriot Act and other unprecedented assaults on our right to privacy. After Mr. Barr was gerrymandered out of his House seat in 2003, I witnessed a transformation and evolution from conservative to libertar... More About: Lance

Speaking alongside his wife Jeri and son Derek at a press conference in Washington DC on May 12th, he announced his candidacy for the Libertarian presidential nomination: "I've heard from Americans from all walks of life... they want a choice. They believe that America has more and better to offer than what the current political situation is serving up to us.The status quo has given us the litany of problems that we're all very familiar with. The debt, the deficit, the problems we see in the economy, the trade imbalance, and the occupation of Iraq. These are all children of the status quo.I will be a candidate precisely to give the American people a voice and give them a meaningful choice so that they do not have to vote for the lesser of two evils. American voters deserve better. " Help us to spread this message far and wide to your friends and ne... More About: Press Release , Press , Release

2008-05-12 14:06:00 Bob Barr has announced he is running for President Text size – + Former congressman announces for president Email|Link|Comments (0) Posted by Foon Rhee, deputy national political editor May 12, 2008 11:25 AM The presidential field just grew by one. Former US Representative Bob Barr of Georgia announced that he will run as a Libertarian this year. He first must win that party's nomination at its national convention that begins May 22. A conservative former Republican, Barr could end up hurting presumptive GOP nominee John McCain -- just as some Democrats fear that Ralph Nader's independent candidacy could bleed votes from the Democratic nominee. Barr, 59, who served in Congress from 1995 to 2003, helped lead Bill Clinton's impeachment. He quit the Republican Party two years ago, saying he had grown disillusioned with its failure to shrink government and its willingness to scale back civil liberties in fighting terrorism. In a news conference, Barr said "only a fool" would... More About: Running , Political

2008-05-07 22:58:00 May 7, 2008 From the desk of Wayne Allyn Root : Anarchism , Age of Consent Laws and the Dallas Accord By Wayne Allyn Root, Candidate for the Libertarian Party Presidential Nomination Recently a controversy has arisen over statements Mary Ruwart made in her book Short Answers to the Tough Questions regarding the rights children possess. The most salient quote on this subject is found on page 43 in her book: Children who willingly participate in sexual acts have the right to make that decision as well, even if it’s distasteful to us personally. Some children will make poor choices just as some adults do in smoking and drinking to excess; this is part of life. And when given an opportunity to clarify her beliefs, Ms. Ruwart recently made it clear that she continues to be opposed to all age-of-consent laws, even in the case of pre-pubescent children. In a May 1, 2008 prepared statement posted on her website she states: Dr. Ruwart did not elab...

How LP Pres. Candidates Qualify to Participate at LP National Convention CS
2008-04-29 21:07:00 I write this since it seems many Libertarians are unaware of the criteria which will be used to determine which LP Presidential candidates will be able to participate in the CSPAN debate held at the LP National Covention in Denver this May. I am attaching a letter (below) from LP Executive Director Shane Cory which explains the criteria. Over the past two weeks, I have received several inquiries from Libertarians concerned about how a presidential candidate "qualifies" to participate at the National LP Convention in Denver and/or "qualifies" to participate in the CSPAN debate. Several of you are concerned about the "Liberty Decides" program and whether that has anything to with qualifying as a candidate to participate - it does not. I write this letter to clarify it, since so many are asking about this. It is my understanding, participation in the CSPAN debate is dependent on a candidate receiving between 70-106 tokens from delegates before Saturday morning at the Convention. Every ... 2008-04-27 17:09:00 Dear Shane & Andrew , I appreciated your press release "Libertarians call for increased communication to combat child pornography." http://www.lp.org/media/article_578.shtml Your press release was powerful in that it illustrates how libertarians can lead government (and society) into a more libertarian direction by using such controversial issues to express a better approach. You correctly balanced your statement condoning the need for greater communication between law enforcement agencies while simultaneously focusing upon protection of privacy rights. Further, you elucidated a clear libertarian perspective contrasting victim-less crimes (and the enormous resources wasted on them) versus real crimes such as those in which the the individual rights of the life and liberty of , in this case, children, are at stake. Thank you for having the courage to express a libertarian perspective on such a matter and for defending the integrity of the LP on this issue. The last thing our ... Crazy for Liberty's interview with Mike Gravel
2008-04-16 22:14:00 This past Sunday Garrett Hayes and myself interviewed Mike Gravel . We talked about gun rights ,nuclear power, fair tax and democracy. After the interview I am now less likely to vote for Mike Gravel in any form. I thought it would be nice to have him on the ticket with Barr or someone else (maybe Ruwart or Phillies) but after the interview i know say NO. I am not sure what you guys think of democracy. I think it sucks. It is two wolves and a sheep voting on what is for dinner, it is also 3 white farmers and a black guy voting on who is going to pick the cotton. Mike Gravel loves democracy and democracy is dangerous. At this point I would like a Bob Barr /Ruwart ticket but I could live with a Ruwart/ Phillies ticket. I do believe the party will get more coverage with Barr as the front man. I also believe Ruwart would get more interviews as the VP candidate behind Barr than if she was the front man. We would be more likely to have her views get out because the buz... More About: Interview , Crazy

First of all if you are an illegal immigrant then you have already broken the law and are a criminal which cancels out the liberal argument. Secondly the conservatives have been focusing on a faulty argument when the real issue is that illegal immigrants are draining services that are paid with taxes collected from legal immigrants and US citizens.BlueJersey, a liberal blog, stated this on their site: "Contrary to what the Donald Cresitellos of the state would have you believe, citizens are twice as likely ...
