Recently Jess ee Jackson made headlines by attacking Presidential hopeful, Senator Barack Obama. Read the Jesse Jackson attack article.It seems according to Jackson, that Senator Obama issued a "too" weak response regarding the case in Jena, LA where 6 young African-Americans are being charged for beating a young caucasian male. The incident is extremely racially charged from both the past and present, and it is very difficult to get to all of the facts at this point. The problem is finding the truth through all of the misreports, lies, misstatements, etc. It is a real mess. And as far as we're concerned Senator Obama took the right approach. If you are an employee that toils in a field where untrained labor can come in and compete for a job, you are making less today than you would if there weren't 20,000,000 or more illegal immigrants in this country! How much less is hard to say, but we can certainly estimate based upon historical employment data and inflation numbers.Why does the existence of the illegal workers depress the labor wage? It really is simply an end result of supply and demand. The law of supply and demand is quite simple as it states that the more something is in supply and the lower the demand for it the less it will cost. We've seen the ridiculous claims by President Bush and many Congressional and Senatorial representatives that the cheap labor provided by illegal immigrants take jobs that Americans don't want. Well, this is absurd! We live in Cincinnati, OH and the illegal immigrant labor pool has pretty much taken over all of the residential construction jobs that were only 3 years ago primarily held by Americans! Any residential job site you go to is heavily labored by immigrants and from what we have seen on the arrest records when the INS came in, many of these workers are illegals. They have taken over the painting, drywall and roofing industries as far as the labor pool goes.
