These paints release significantly fewer polluting toxins, and no VOC paints are odor free (most low-VOC paints will produce a slight odor). Low and No-VOCs paint can be applied in exactly the same way as conventional, high-VOC paints. In general, low-VOC paints are comparable in price to conventional paints; no-VOC paint tends to be slightly more expensive. Additionally, low-VOC and no-VOC paints aren’t considered hazardous waste materials, so disposal is much easier than with standard paints. One difference that you may discover is that very low-VOC and no-VOC paints are not available in very dark or intense colors. In the central mountain regions of Africa once too cool for the carrier mosquitoes, millions are suddenly at risk. In Kenya ’s western highlands, maximum annual temperatures over the last 20 years are up about 1.8 degrees. Since 2001, malaria caseloads have nearly doubled, reaching 206,369 last year; the disease’s prevalence in the region is now second only to pneumonia. Or is it: It’s global warming stupid…or maybe not. You see, malaria was once common in England and New York City…it has to do with population density, and the availability of stagnant water or ponds in which to breed. For those who don’t know, Flickr.com is a photo-sharing website and it’s fair to say that it has transformed my attitude to photography. If there are hundreds of thousands of people using Flickr who are able to look at your photos (and literally tens who do) that means there are also hundreds of thousands of people posting photos that you can look at too, and that became my main way of interacting with the site. I was immediately stunned by the quality of photography on display and found myself killing time browsing Flickr, happily stumbling across one incredible shot after another. Of course there were also thousands of photos that should really be confined to someone’s attic.
