A soldier's Mother can't fly the Flag?
2007-02-09 17:46:00
What the hell is wrong with people that think flying the flag is a problem. A mother has a son serving in Afgahanistan and has put up a flag pole to fly the American flag and the service star flag in support of her son. While the service flag is being displayed in a manner that is inappropiate (it shouls be display from a window, showing to the outside only), what right does a condo association have to tell her she can't fly the flag(s) because it's against the rules?Whose rules? Jane Fonda's? Sean Penn?If you're eading this, please provide your support to this woman in fighting the condo association. This kinda crap needs to be stopped. The soldiers don't need this kind of stuff reaching them in places they're serving. If you can provide any support to the woman or the local VA, please do so!Story links - http://www.stamfordadvocate.com/news/loca l/state/hc-06012753.apds.m0440.bc-ct--con dfeb06,0,1425609.story?coll=hc-headlines- local-wirehttp://www.wric.com/Global/stor y.asp?S=604...

Downtown Columbus Parking
2007-01-26 01:04:00
Downtown Columbus has been going down hill for some time now, and they can't figure out why. The Center Center shopping mall is almost useless due to a lack of customers, business outside the mall aren't fairing much better. Most people, me included refuse to go downtown because of a lack of parking, and to a somewhat lesser extent, traffic in general. If and when I need to shop, I'll go to one of the suburban shopping malls. The parking is easier, free, and usually closer than trying to park downtown. The traffic isn't much better, but it does flow better. Now business just north of downtown are losing business because of some businesses that offer valet parking and use what little parking there is, including the city owned parking spots and meters., by agreement with the city, I suppose, since the meters are covered with city meter covers.Don't to visit a valet parking service provided business? Sorry, take a bus or cab. When will the city officials and downtown committees pull t...

They're Taking Control
2006-12-18 13:05:00
Well Cleveland is taking a hint from NYC. They are now working on plans to make trans-fat illegal. The state is also limiting teen car pools - putting restrictions on how many teens, with specific times and related or not can be in one vehicle. This is an attempt to limit accidents, maybe a good idea, but still trying to run our lives by regulation. Why don't the politicians see that enforcing the existing laws, making parents responsible for their teenagers, and let people live their own lives is NOT a bad or freign idea.We as a society and individuals need to take responsibility for our actions and quit trying to shift the blame. The first thing that needs to be done is to let the politicians know to stop passing asinine laws limiting our choices and freedoms. The second thing is to put a stop to the frivolous lawsuits. Judges hearing cases like a woman suing a fast food restaurant because she got burnt from the coffee while driving should have the option of throwing the attorney for...

Let Me Run Your Life - You're Too Stupid
2006-12-10 13:20:00
Ok, I was saved from smoking, and I get to keep more of my money because gambling was turned down. Thanks to everyone for saving me and my money - for what? To get shot with semi-automatics? At least I'll die with a little money and MAYBE cleaner lungs, and I didn't have to do it myself.I believe in the right to keep and bear arms, but does anyone need to keep and use military weapons? There is no reason for the general public to have these weapons, while at the same time telling me when and where I can smoke, and if I'm too stupid to keep my money out of slot machines. If I owned a bar or restaurant and wanted to allow smoking, that's my business. If you don't smoke and don't want to be around it, don't come in. If you don't want to work with smokers, apply elsewhere for a job. Where do we have the right to tell business owners how to run their business?I should have the right to choose to spend my money where I want, smoke or smoke-free, the same as I have the right to go w...

Hunting Accidents
2006-11-28 22:16:00
Hunting here in Ohio, like most places is becoming more dangerous every year. I haven't hunted in this state since I returned in 1993. If the hunting bug bites again, I'll go back to Idaho, where the population is less, people use common sense and are more safety aware (but poaching is a bigger problem).Deer hunting season here opened yesterday, December 27. Hunting is allowed from 1/2 hour prior to sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset, in other words no hunting in the dark. The first hunting accident happened about an hour an a half before sunrise. A 53 year old man shot his nephew by accident while they were going different ways to "scare up some deer and get them moving". After killing his nephew, the man was rushed to the hospital for chest pains and heart trouble. This man shot and killed a family member because of stupid actions that never should have happened. Being in the woods at the time they were is fine. most hunters are out earlier than the allowed hunting time to do a litt...

O.J.'s Book
2006-11-23 17:56:00
O.J. was found innocent of murder in a criminal trial and lost a civil judgement of $33.5 million. Did he do it? At this point only O.J., God and maybe his lawyers really know for sure, but at this point it's why even worry about it, walking around free, innocent with a huge debt.O.J. claims he was paid $3.5 million for the book "If I Did It" and a two-part interview. O.J. claims he didn't seek the book deal and the title wasn't his idea, but came from the publisher. That may or may not be true, but it is evident O.J. is living a lifestyle that requires large sums of money, and if he's broke..... you figure it out, I can't.I'm wandering from my original point. Publisher HarperCollins, part of the News Corp. paid an advance of $3.5 million, spent by O.J., and the book published. I'm sure how many books were published, but they were and they were distributed. The company, based on the outcry from the public, advertisers, and the Goldman family has canceled the interview and reca...

Bush's Daughter Robbed
2006-11-22 15:48:00
President Bush's twin daughters were in Argentina, dining in a reataurant in the tourist section of San Telmo when one of them had their purse stolen, while under the protection of the Secret Service. The purse was supposedly under the table where they were eating and a pair of thieves stole the purse and a cell phone. The tip came from an unknown Argentina government source and could not be confirmed by the local police. The White House, State Department, Secret Service and U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires had no comment.CNN reported a law enforcement source as saying "at no point were the protectees out of visual contact and at no point was there any risk of harm."Right - nobody can hurt a president family member under the protection of the Secret Service, but you can steal a purse under the table where they are dining.

A Soldiers's Christmas - Think of them
2006-11-21 13:51:00
This poem has been around for awhile but is worth repeating again. I wish I could give credit to the author, but I'm not sure where it came from.We need to remember our troops and their families at all times, but especially during this holiday season. The embers glowed softly, and in their dim light,I gazed round the room and I cherished the sight. My wife was asleep, her head on my chest,My daughter beside me, angelic in rest.Outside the snow fell, a blanket of white,Transforming the yard to a winter delight. The sparkling lights in the tree I believe,Completed the magic that was Chris tmas Eve.My eyelids were heavy, my breathing was deep,Secure and surrounded by love I would sleep. In perfect contentment, or so it would seem,So I slumbered, perhaps I started to dream. The sound wasn't loud, and it wasn't too near,But I opened my eyes when it tickled my ear.Perhaps just a cough, I didn't quite know,Then the sure sound of footsteps outside in the snow.My soul gave a tremble, I struggl...

OSU Football # 2
2006-11-20 12:45:00
The GAME is over, and OSU is still number 1!The aftermath is not as bad as expected, but 40 people were arrested, four of those for arson. The University still cleaning up trash on and around campus since all the dumpsters were removed to prevent dumpster fires. So far an estimated 40 tons have been picked up and they are not done yet. OSU President is proud to proclaim OSU fans are the best in the land! Huh?All the dumpsters were removed, 4 arson, 40+ tons of trash, with the cleaning crew starting immediately after the game, and cleaner was interviewed on the job, still working after 14 hours. Where are the 40 arrested? Why aren't they picking up the trash? Are any of them students, and will they be expelled? On another note, a local high school football coach has been fired for grabbing a player by the arm and forcefully sitting him a chair. All the details aren't known yet, such as what led to the incident, but my guess is that it's a typical HS athlete playing around, asked to...

OSO Football
2006-11-16 12:44:00
Ohio has alot to be proud of, past and present. Right now the OSU football team is #1 and rightly so based on the way they are playing and with the upcoming game against Michigan, I hope they can keep the same momemtum and run over them like a train over a penny on the track. That's sports, that's on the field, and during the game.Oh Yeah - one other thing Ohio, especially Columbus, has to be proud of is our reputation of football "FANS" . When we win, we need to riot, start dumpster fires, burn couches in the street, and assult the opposing fans. When we lose, we need to riot, start dumpster fires, burn couches in the street, and assult the opposing fans. This weekend Michigan is coming to Columbus. This will be the game of a lifetime - #1 Ohio vs. #2 Michigan. When Michigan comes to town, like OSU, they bring a great number of fans, and that could lead to good time by all with parties, off field rivalries, contests and and just plain fun.Enter the OSU "FANS" - everything changes. M...

Iraq - Win, Lose, Leave or Stay
2006-11-14 21:00:00
First of all the facts are that we have troops over there and they need to be supported. It wasn't their politics that put them there, it was their belief in duty to the country. They don't need to hear all the bickering from back home, D.C. and comments like john Kerry made.Second - maybe we should stay and maybe we shouldn't. Just pulling out means that the lives lost were lost for what? Stay ing under the current conditions means that more lives will be lost. One thing that I see as a major problem is gun control. I'm not a gun control fanatic - I believe in the right to keep and bear arms, but this country is not in a battle zone and if I walked down the street with an RPG or automatic weapon I would rightly be arrested before I got very far. Why are Iraq i people still walking around openly wielding all types of weapons? total control of the weapons is a pipe dream, but no attempt has been made at all that I know of. Reduce the weapons and maybe reduce the number of casualtie...
