Syrian Ambassador to the US 'Imad Mustafa Slams Bush Administration over Sy
2008-05-14 00:22:00
'Imad Mustafa : Even though this story [about a Syrian nuclearreactor] is ridiculous, we do not take it lightly. This administrationis characterized by a great deal of recklessness, in addition to itscapabilities of fabricating and lying, and of causing the utmost damageto other nations, as well as to the American nation itself. This is notpropaganda. This is the reality in which the American people is livingright now. Therefore, we do not take this story lightly. We believethat this story comes in a certain context. This story, as presented bythe American administration, is another link in a continuous chain ofactions, which the U.S. administration has been taking against Syriafor at least four years. There are two very significant differences between then and now. When the U.S administration made its false claims in the past ? eventhough some people doubted the claims about Iraqi WMDs ? the Americanpolitical establishment as a whole accepted the administration'saccount, in order t...

A Plea Deal For Terrorists?
2008-05-14 00:15:00
More than six years after it began imprisoning terrorist suspects at Guantánamo Bay,the Bush administration finally hopes to present evidence against oneof them at trial next month and prove that its much-criticizedmilitary-commissions system can be fair. Yemeni national Salim Ahmed Hamdan, one of Gitmo's highest-profile detainees, faces charges of conspiracyand giving material support to terrorists while serving as Osama binLaden's driver. But the commission's former lead prosecutor, Air ForceCol. Morris Davis, now says the government weighed a plea agreement with Hamdan last yearthat would have halted a trial and presumably set a date for hisrelease. Davis told NEWSWEEK that Gen. ThomasHartmann, the Pentagon's top legal adviser in the commission's office, made plans to fly to Gitmo last August with Neal Katyal, one ofHamdan's civilian defense attorneys, to hammer out a plea deal. Davissaid the trip was postponed when he filed a complaint against Hartmannfor interfering...

Millennials: Downtrodden or Just Dumb?
2008-05-14 00:08:00
"The landscape is changing before our eyes. Younger votersstruggling with the enormous costs of a college education, or trying toraise families in a bleak employment environment, or using their creditcards to cover everyday expenses like food or energy costs are not muchinterested in hearing that the government to which they pay taxes cando little or nothing to help them."Research shows that this is the most progressive generation indecades. We want nothing less than a new New Deal--and along withrebuilding the middle class, we're going to need a new WPA to rebuildour transportation and energy infrastructure in a post-fossil fuelworld. On the other hand, maybe a wholesale transformation of governmentand American seems too difficult or out of reach. Instead, you canindulge in a nice round of Blame the Victim.Ok, I'll be fair, I know a lot of "millenials" and some of them are pretty bright. However, just take a look at this sorry excuse:As a Millennial (born 1984), I ask; whose faul...

All,My normal blogging software has decided to take a dump and I'm working to get it resolved. In the meantime, some of my posts might look a little kookie. :) I'm working hard to get it resolved as quickly as possible. Also, I'm going to try to put on a radio show again soon as I'm getting requests for it again. I have been meaning to put on a weekly radio show, but real life and other issues keep popping up, preventing that from happening. I'm going to try to get Daehoon (my liberal friend) to come in and be a guest on the show and see if we can't have ourselves a lively debate.Travistravis@rightwinglunatic.com

Hillary Clinton or video games? One 11-year-old's choice
2008-05-13 22:36:00
As 11-year-old Dalton Hatfield set about selling his earthly possessions, his parents thought he was doing his part to help pay for a family vacation. Instead, he was doing his part to help his favored presidential candidate, Hillary Clinton . And on Friday, the young fellow made news when he presented a stunned Bill Clinton with a check for $440. The former president, according an Associated Press story on the occasion, "seemed to nearly come to tears" as he accepted the donation at a fire station in Williamson, W.Va. (one of the many off-the-beaten-path locales where he has been rallying support for his wife). The Hillary Clinton campaign, understandably, was so taken with the boy's gesture that today it posted the AP story on its website. Every little bit helps, after all, when it comes to erasing the $20-million debt that the campaign acknowledged on Sunday.Sorry kid, but you're wasting your money. Hillary is unbelievable in debt with her campaign, and that certainly isn...

That's right folks. Your favorite propagandist is making a sequel to his masterpiece of bullshit. Couldn't be because "Sicko" failed so miserably at the box office could it? Introduction To Daehoon
2008-05-12 07:18:00
I've been bugging a friend of mine, Daehoon, for an article for quite a while now. He's a full time student, so he never has time for one. However, he now has made one for me, and it's quite an article. I will ask him if he'd like me to set up an email address for him for your comments, but in the mean time, you can direct them to mine. Take a peek.In 1492 Christopher Columbus set sail for India, going west. He had the Nina, the Pinta and the Santa Maria. He never did find India, but he called the people he met ''Indians'' and came home and reported to his king and queen: ''The world is round.'' I set off for India 512 years later. I knew just which direction I was going. I went east. I had Lufthansa business class, and I came home and reported only to my wife and only in a whisper: ''The world is flat.'' And therein lies a tale of technology and geoeconomics that is fundamentally reshaping our lives -- much, much more quickly than many people realize. It all hap...

A Gulf in Giving: Oil-Rich States Starve the World Food Program
2008-05-10 19:06:00
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and his top lieutenants on Monday are convening the first meeting of the U.N.?s Task Force on the Global Food Crisis. Ban says it will ?study the root causes of the crisis,? and propose solutions for ?coordinated global action? at a summit of world leaders in June. Ban might want to consider near-invisible amount of money they currently give " href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933 ,354677,00.html">convincing the oil-rich nations of the Middle East to provide more than the near-invisible amount of money they currently give to the World Food Program (WFP), the U.N.?s food-giving arm, which is charged with alleviating the food crisis. Well it's about time that someone pointed out that these nations that are flush with cash are doing absolutely nothing about the world's poor.  Saudi Arabia, by far one of the richest Middle Eastern countries, constantly berates us for the plight of the Palestinians, yet, does absolutely nothing abou...

George Has Lost His Mind
2008-05-10 18:56:00
No not THAT George ...not that one either....I'm talking about GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS. ABC's chief Washington correspondent George Stephanopoulos told Charles Gibson on "World News" that Clinton is staying in the race to negotiate a spot on the Democratic ticket in November. Good luck with that. There are various exit strategies right now. Number one would be, go out on a win. So, stay in until West Virginia, where Sen. Clinton is likely the winner, and Kentucky on May 20, and after that, bow out. Two, negotiate for the imposition of Michigan and Florida, to get those delegations seated, declare victory on that, and get out. But the big one, Charlie ? and this is what some people close to the Clintons are talking about: Is there a way to negotiate a settlement with Barack Obama to have Sen. Clinton on the ticket? I can probably speak for the Obama campaign, even though I'm a Republican.  First off, there's no way that Michigan and Florida are going to be counted.  They b...

Famine fears for North Korea, aid group warns
2008-05-10 18:35:00
North Korea ns are dying because of food shortages in rural areas, and a massive famine is just a matter of time, a South Korean aid group said Friday. The food situation was as bad as the famine that hit the country in the mid-1990s, which left as many as 2 million people dead, Seoul-based Good Friends -- a Buddhist-affiliated group that sends food and other aid to the North -- cited an unidentified North Korea n official Friday as saying. "So far, mass deaths have not occurred as people have become more used to starvation than in the 1990s, but famine is a matter of time," the official was quoted as saying by the aid group. Good Friends also quoted Kim Ki-nam, 39, a resident of Sariwon, south of Pyongyang, as saying one or two deaths were happening every day in rural areas around the city. North Korea has relied on foreign assistance to help feed its 23 million people since the mid-'90s.   You see folks, this is how it works:  You play nice on the world stage, otherwise...

This Is Priceless
2008-05-09 00:41:00
May 8, 2008 Senator Barack Obama Obama for America P.O. Box 8102 Chicago, IL 60680 Dear Senator Obama, This has been an historic and exciting campaign. Millions of new voters have been brought into the process and their enthusiasm for the Democratic Party and the principles for which you and I have fought and continue to fight is unprecedented. One of the foremost principles of our party is that citizens be allowed to vote and that those votes be counted. That principle is not currently being applied to the nearly 2.5 million people who voted in primaries in Florida and Michigan. Whoever emerges as the Democratic nominee will be hamstrung in the general election if a fair and quick resolution is not reached that ensures that the voices of these voters are heard. Our commitment now to this goal could be the difference between winning and losing in November. I have consistently said that the votes cast in Florida and Michigan in January should be counted. We cannot ignore the fact tha...

Leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq Arrested in Mosul
2008-05-09 00:30:00
The leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq , Abu Ayyub al-Masri, was arrested in the northern city of Mosul, the Iraqi Defense Ministry spokesman said Thursday. Spokesman Mohammed al-Askari said the arrest of al-Masri, also known as Abu Hamza al-Muhajir, was confirmed to him by the Iraqi commander of the province. There was no immediate confirmation from U.S. forces on the arrest, although a source tells FOX News they are "extremely skeptical" that al-Masri has been captured. They said there maybe some confusion on the Iraqi end, because there are reports one of al-Masri's aides was picked up recently. The U.S. military in Baghdad said "information" href="http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933 ,354622,00.html">we are currently checking with Iraqi authorities to confirm the accuracy of this information." This is big if confirmed.  This is the guy who took over Al-Qaeda in Iraq after Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was killed in an airstrike.  al-Zaraqawi is supposedly the guy who beheaded Nick Berg a...

Political Office In Alec Baldwin's Future?, Now That He's 50, Actor Tells 6
2008-05-09 00:21:00
Now that actor Alec Baldwin is 50 years old, he might run for political office. Baldwin talks to 60 Minutes correspondent Morley Safer about that and other aspects of his life, including his very public divorce and custody battle, in a profile to be broadcast this Sunday, May 11, at 7 p.m. ET/PT. A decade ago, Baldwin was interested in politics, but said he was only 39 and all the people who ran the world were in their fifties. Since then, he has publicly dismissed the notion of running for office. A few weeks ago, he changed his mind. "There's other things I want to do [besides acting]. I mean, in a matter of weeks, I'm going to be 50," says Baldwin, who turned 50 on April 3. "There?s no age limit on running for office, to a degree. [It is] something I might do one day," says Baldwin. Baldwin says he is ready for the public scrutiny and realizes the tact one must use when running for office because he's learned a lesson about what he says and how it can affect others in the na...

DNC Superdelegate Puts His Vote Up For Sale
2008-05-09 00:14:00
In this tight battle for the Democratic nomination we've heard a lot about the candidates courting superdelegates. But, one superdelegate is courting the candidates. He says he'll sell his vote for a price. A very high price: $20 million. Steven Ybarra of Sacramento says that eight-figure price is peanuts for the presidency. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't something like that illegal?  I know that you can't sell your vote in a general election, but wouldn't something like this be illegal as well?  Or is this another matter of corruption that the Democrats are willing to sweep under the rug like William Jefferson?   Travis travis@rightwinglunatic.com

Obama: World wants to see U.S. lead
2008-05-09 00:12:00
Sen. Barack Obama said Thursday that the most important thing he could achieve as president would be to deal with Iraq and the threat of al Qaeda in Afghanistan while improving "our influence around the world." In his first interview since the North Carolina and Indiana primaries, Obama said he thinks the United States' influence around the world has been diminishing. "The world wants to see the United States lead. They've been disappointed and disillusioned over the last seven, eight years," he told CNN's Wolf Blitzer in an interview on "The Situation Room." Of course the world wants to see the United States lead.  They don't want to make the tough decisions about world affairs.  They'd rather America deal with the world's problems, then they could bitch about it when things don't go exactly the way they hoped.  They want America to lead because they don't want to open up their own pocketbooks to pay for aid for poorer nations and natural disasters. When wa...

Superdelegates say, we will decide
2008-05-07 23:13:00
Uncommitted Democratic superdelegates in Congress overwhelmingly say they won?t necessarily back the presidential candidate who wins the most primary delegates. Instead, electability will be very important in their decision. Of 42 lawmakers interviewed by The Hill, only four said they regarded the primary vote as decisive. Barack Obama (Ill.)." href="http://thehill.com/leading-the-news /superdelegates-say-we-will-decide-2008-0 5-06.html">The congressional superdelegates? independence is precisely what Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) is banking on as she trails by about 130 pledged delegates behind rival Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.). Harry Reid: Clinton's Iran Comment Is "Not The American Way"
2008-05-07 23:07:00
HARRY REID: Well, I am certainly doing my best not to take sides in this presidential thing. But I think that flexing our muscles, threatening people, threatening countries, is not the American way. We have -- as President Roosevelt, Theodore Roosevelt said, "speak softly, carry a big stick." Words to that effect. And that's what I think we should do. Speak softly, make sure that people know that we can react if we have to, but let's not go around threatening people. Yep, from good old Harry Reid .  The same guy who said "the war in Iraq is lost".  As much as I hate to defend Hillary, she was asked about a nuclear attack from Iran against the Israeli's.  She responded that we would indeed help our allies in that time of need.  I guess helping allies isn't "the American way" according to Harry, but then again, this is the same guy who backs down from any threat known to man, and I don't think he even understands what "the American way" really means. So, in the...

Ex-Gitmo prisoner commits suicide attack
2008-05-07 22:48:00
The U.S. military confirmed Wednesday that a northern Iraq" href="http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/2450486 2/">former Guantanamo detainee from Kuwait carried out a recent suicide attack in northern Iraq. A spokesman for U.S. military's Central Command told The Associated Press that Abdallah Salih al-Ajmi took part in an attack in Mosul. U.S. Navy Cmdr. Scott Rye said authorities don't know the motive for the attack, which was reported last week by Dubai-based Al-Arabiya television. Iraqi security forces were apparently targeted. What??  You mean to tell me that liberals lied to me when they said almost everyone in Guantanamo Bay was innocent?  According to them, there's almost no one in Gitmo that's guilty of anything, and that these are merely people who were at the wrong place at the wrong time.  I find it very difficult to believe that Gitmo might actually have some actual terrorists in their cells! The U.S. transferred al-Ajmi to Kuwaiti custody from Guantanamo in 2...

CCTV boom has failed to slash crime, say police
2008-05-07 22:21:00
Massive investment in CCTV cameras to prevent crime in the UK has failed to have a significant impact, despite billions of pounds spent on the new technology, a senior police officer piloting a new database has warned. Only 3% of street robberies in London were solved using CCTV images, despite the fact that Britain has more security cameras than any other country in Europe. The warning comes from the head of the Visual Images, Identifications and Detections Office (Viido) at New Scotland Yard as the force launches a series of initiatives to try to boost conviction rates using CCTV evidence. They include: · A new database of images which is expected to use technology developed by the sports advertising industry to track and identify offenders. · Putting images of suspects in muggings, rape and robbery cases out on the Internet from next month. · Building a national CCTV database, incorporating pictures of convicted offenders as well as unidentified suspects. The plans for this hav...

D.C. sniper wants to drop death row appeals
2008-05-07 06:42:00
Washington-area sniper John Allen Muhammad is asking prosecutors in a letter to help him end legal appeals of his conviction and death sentence "so that you can murder this innocent black man." In a two-page letter obtained by The Associated Press on Tuesday, Muhammad said he has tried to stop his defense attorneys from pursuing the appeals, and that he was counting on the state attorney general to assist him. Muhammad told the prosecutors' office that he is waiving all rights to appeal his 2003 conviction and death sentence for the sniper killings in 2002 that terrorized the Washington region. "I've written to you all because I know you will make sure this letter will get to the right people -- so that you can murder this innocent black man," Muhammad wrote in the letter, dated April 23. In the letter, Muhammad writes in the margin, "Muhammad innocent and on death row." Oh go fuck yourself.  This bit of self righteous bullshit, coupled with playing the race card isn't goin...

Races tightens in Indiana
2008-05-07 06:35:00
The Democratic contest in Indiana was too close to call Tuesday as late returns erased what had been a commanding lead for Sen. Hillary Clinton. As polls closed in Indiana, Clinton had a double-digit lead over Sen. Barack Obama, but by the end of the evening, Clinton's lead had shrunk to 2 percent. The focus of the contest shifted to Lake County, home to 8 percent of Indiana's population. Told you it would solve nothing. But others' seem to disagree:     Travis travis@rightwinglunatic.com

At around the 1 minute mark.     His solution?  Iran becomes the most "unlucky" nation on earth. Support "tit for tat" strategy.  A bomb goes off against US troops, two go off in Iran. Take Iranian opposition groups off of the terrorist list. Can anyone out there tell me what's wrong with this guy's solution? It retaliates for US troop deaths, let's the Iranians know we're not fucking around, AND let's other nations know it as well. Personally, if Iran is responsible for one US troop death, I think we should start assassination missions against members of the Iranian military and government.   Even John Bolton agrees: Colonel Donald Bacon, a spokesman for the coalition in Baghdad, said captured fighters had told interrogators that thousands of Iraqi fighters were undergoing training in the Islamic Republic. The main camp is located near the town of Jalil Azad, near Tehran, according to coalition officials. The capture of Qais Khazali, a major figur...

Pelosi backs second stimulus, says Bush in denial
2008-05-06 19:40:00
Man, I knew Nancy Pelosi was a fucking moron, but WOW. Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday called for a second economic stimulus package, and said President George W. Bush is "in denial" about the country's economy. "It's clear there is a need for a second stimulus," Pelosi, a California Democrat, told reporters at a news conference. "The president has for a long time been in denial on the state of the economy," she said. "I don't think that we have that amount of time," Pelosi said. "There are indications that this downturn is steeper than it was when we created the first stimulus package." So she wants to borrow MORE money to help "stimulate" the economy?  Where the hell does she think she's going to get this money from? I think SHE'S in denial about the economy.  People borrowed more then they could afford for their homes, now it's coming time to repay that debt.  They will need to file for bankruptcy just like generations before u...

Voters turn out for what could be Democrats' final round
2008-05-06 19:33:00
Well, here we are again. "It would be a game changer if Clinton wins both North Carolina and Indiana by double-digit margins," said Bill Schneider, CNN senior political correspondent. "That would signal to the superdelegates that Democratic voters are having serious doubts about Obama. She needs big victories because it's so late in the game." In all, only 404 pledged delegates remain to be chosen, and Tuesday's total of 187 makes it the biggest single primary day left. Clinton would need to win 70 percent of the remaining pledged delegates to catch up with Obama. "That's very unlikely," Schneider said. "She stands a better chance of catching up in the total popular vote." With neither candidate expected to win the 2,025 delegates needed to clinch the Democratic nomination by June 3, the end of the primary season, the final decision will most likely fall to the 796 so-called superdelegates: Democratic governors, members of Congress and party officials.   Today's not going ...

Clinton: OPEC 'can no longer be a cartel'
2008-05-06 02:04:00
Clinton's attacks on oil prices as artificially inflated, Enron-style, keep escalating, and today she appeared to threaten to break up the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries. "We?re going to go right at OPEC," she said. "They can no longer be a cartel, a monopoly that get together once every couple of months in some conference room in some plush place in the world, they decide how much oil they?re going to produce and what price they?re going to put it at," she told a crod at a firehouse in Merrillville, IN. "That?s not a market. That?s a monopoly," she said, saying she'd use anti-trust law and the World Trade Organization to take on OPEC. Clinton has cast herself as a warrior for working people against the oil industry and malicious "speculators," and made that -- along with her push for a gas tax holiday -- central to her closing message in Indiana. It's a potent message, like the attack on "Wall Street money brokers," with deep roots in American politics. It' It's...
