?I Want the Oil Companies to Pay That $8 Billion?: Clinton Explains Gas Pla
2008-05-05 23:20:00 I'm confused. What does Hillary think she's going to do to force oil companies to eat $8 billion? What does she think she's going to do when they tell her "no"? With the "gas tax holiday", who's to say that the savings have to be passed onto consumers? The plan is simple: Offer a bounty for electric/renewable resources cars. For example: Offer say $10 billion to the first car company that can put together a car that gets 100+ miles to the charge/refill, passes ALL safety tests, and costs less than $25,000. You simply HAVE to force the hands of companies who have been dragging their feet on renewable resource using cars. If you don't, we'll all be paying through the nose for gas until it's too late. First car company that can do the above mentioned car, can count me as their first customer. Until that time, I'm hypermiling, and I have turned my 2005 Civic EX from 31-33mpg to 46mpg with some BASIC changes in my driving habits... More About: Companies , Clinton , Billion

2008-05-05 23:06:00 CHICAGO (AP) - Federal prosecutors have rested their case in the corruption trial of a prominent political fundraiser in Illinois. He's also accused of squeezing kickbacks from money management firms seeking to do business with a state pension fund. Paying for Health Care - Who and How?
2008-05-05 23:02:00 On Fox News Wednesday, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton told Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, "If we don't get universal health care, we will continue to bleed money." Funny. The more Washington politicians promise to control health care costs, the higher they go. As humorist P.J. O'Rourke famously said, "it's free" href="http://www.realclearpolitics.com/ar ticles/2008/05/paying_for_health_care_who _and.html">If you think health care is expensive now, wait until you see what it costs when it's free." Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama both promise to provide access to health care for all Americans by mandating that employers provide or contribute to the cost of health plans for employees. Clinton would mandate that all uninsured adults buy health care, Obama has no "individual mandate." Both candidates would offer health care for all children and subsidies for adults, and would require insurers to cover everyone, regardless of health. Somehow they propose to offer and subsidize more health care w... More About: Health , Health Care , Care

Showing a sisterhood with the female horse, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., during a trip to Louisville this week had said she was going to bet on Eight Belles to win, place, and show. ABC News' Karen Travers reports that Clinton told supporters in Jeffersonville, Ind., earlier this week, "I hope that everybody will go to the derby on Saturday and place just a little money on the filly for me. I won?t be able to be there this year -- my daughter is going to be there and so she has strict instructions to bet on Eight Belles." Some blacks may sit out if Obama loses nomination
2008-05-03 00:50:00 Some black voters are making it very clear: They're concerned that Barack Obama is going to be denied the Democratic presidential nomination that they see as rightfully his, and if that happens, a lot of them may stay home in November. "It would hurt me not to vote," said Charles Clark, an Indianapolis retiree. He's thinking about leaving the presidential box on his ballot blank if Hillary Clinton is the Democrats' nominee. "There was a heck of a push made so blacks could vote. I know that," he said. "But it would also be very unfair if they pushed Barack Obama to the side." Yep, that's right folks. There are people out there who would rather go home and pout that "their" candidate didn't get the nomination, then vote at all. Who cares that people have actually died trying to get people to have the ability to vote AT ALL right? That's one of the most childish things I've heard in a long while. But yet, we keep hearing the same "it's my way or I'll walk" k... More About: Nomination , Blacks

Terrorism Counterpoints
2008-05-02 23:48:00 U.S. Rep. Sue Myrick wants America to ''wake up'' and stop allowing terrorism to proliferate - and if that means revoking the passport of a former U.S. president or examining the preaching of prison chaplains, that's what she's prepared to do. The Republican from Charlotte, N.C., on Friday released a list of 10 items she hopes will help peel back the layers on how radical elements of Islam might be infiltrating the military, school rooms and other elements of society. She also wants to stop the government from supporting terrorist organizations through financial investments, visa programs and military sales. Earlier this week, she called for President Jimmy Carter's passport to be revoked because he met with Hamas, a Palestinian group that the U.S. government says supports terrorism. ''His actions reward terrorists, lend support and provide legitimacy to their belief that violence will eventually get them what they want,'' Myrick said. The co-founder of the House anti-ter... On YOUR Dime: Congressmen Lease Luxury Cars
2008-05-02 23:37:00 You may not realize it, but members of the House of Representatives can lease a car and have it paid for by you -- the taxpayer. And it's not just the car, but gas, registration, insurance ? the works. And as CBS 2 HD found out, there's no limit on how much they can spend. Congressman Charles Rangel was recently seen getting out of his Cadillac DeVille, which he leases for $774 per month. Then there was Congressman Jose Serrano, getting out of his Buick LaCrosse, which he leases for $317 per month. And how about this one: Congressman Gregory Meeks was recently seen waiting for Congressman John Conyers to step out of Meeks' Lexus LS460, which Meeks leases for $998 per month. All those leases are picked up by taxpayers through a little-known program available only to members of the House of Representatives. Yep, you get to pay for luxury cars that members of the House of Representatives get to use, for FREE. Now, I can understand that a car can be a mobile office... Israeli forces kill Islamic Jihad chief, sources say
2008-05-01 23:24:00 One person was killed and three were wounded Wednesday in an Israeli airstrike targeting a metal shop in Rafah, according to Palestinian security and medical sources. Israel Defense Forces confirmed the airstrike. The person killed was the deputy commander of the Islamic Jihad military wing, according to the Palestinian sources, who said he also served as a school headmaster at a United Nations Relief and Works Agency school. UNRWA spokesman Chris Gunnes said he could not immediately confirm that the person was employed by the United Nations, and added that staff members who bring politics into U.N. institutions are fired immediately for violating staff rules. Damn, it looks like Israel's not fucking around anymore. Wannabes or terrorists? Third jury may decide - CNN.com
2008-05-01 23:20:00 When the seven men were arrested in June 2006, federal authorities said they had broken up a dangerous home-grown terror cell plotting to blow up Chicago's Sears Tower and other landmarks. Two trials and millions of dollars later, the government has yet to obtain a single conviction. Still, federal prosecutors will try for a third time to convince a jury that a ragtag group of homeless men known as the "Liberty City 7" plotted terrorist acts with al Qaeda. Two previous trials ended with hung juries after lengthy deliberations. The third trial will begin January 6, a judge said at a hearing Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Miami. The FBI used two paid informants to infiltrate the group, ending its sting with a dramatic warehouse raid. One of the informants, posing as an al Qaeda contact, said he would pay the men and give them hiking boots if they would pledge an oath to al Qaeda and take surveillance photos of buildings that al Qaeda wanted blown up. Obama Strikes Chord Urging Parents to Be More Responsible
2008-05-01 23:15:00 Sen. Barack Obama has cast himself as a "truth-talker" on the campaign trail, with the refrain that government can't solve people's problems and that one of the biggest problems facing the country is "parents who don't parent." The appeal to personal responsibility echoes the "straight talk" theme of Sen. John McCain, the likely Republican nominee, and may connect with Republican and independent voters wary of big government. But ahead of next week's primaries in Indiana and North Carolina, Sen. Obama delivers the line most often in front of African-American audiences. At a stop in Hickory, N.C., after promising to spend $18 billion on education, Sen. Obama said: "This money is not going to make a difference if parents don't parent." Whoa, whoa, whoa, careful Barack, you're starting to sound like a Republican. We can't have that now can we? Senate Says McCain Is Qualified
2008-05-01 20:04:00 The Senate on Wednesday delivered its judgment on a constitutional question involving one of its own and formally declared that Senator John McCain is eligible to be president ? at least from a citizenship perspective. Weighing in on an arcane question that has arisen because of Mr. McCain?s birth in the Panama Canal Zone, the Senate without opposition approved a non binding resolution recognizing that Mr. McCain is a natural-born citizen. Among the basic qualifications the Constitution lays out for president is that the person be a natural-born citizen, a phrase not defined and one that has been subjected to various interpretations. Was this REALLY an issue here? Any military base around the world is considered American soil. Any person born on that base is thus, an American citizen. But as a side note, what the hell is up with Congress and their "non binding" resolutions? If it's "non binding" then why waste your time with it at all? Congress has been was...

Today, I am angry, again, at Nancy Pelosi. And I'm calling out Al Gore and John Edwards. Three intelligent people who are not leaders in any way shape or form. How bad would things have to get before one of these three stands up? Would our economy have to be on the precipice? Would we have to be stuck in a war that's costing us blood and treasure? How to Survive a Riot
2008-04-30 18:19:00 One of my readers suggested that I post this. Since it's extremely unlikely you'll ever encounter such a thing, I thought it would be fun to post anyway. What do college tuition increases, soccer games, editorial cartoons, and a movie star's death have in common? They've all ignited riots in the past couple years. It's no secret that angry mobs can be as dangerous and unpredictable as just about any natural disaster. As many as a million people in India and Pakistan died in the civil unrest that followed India's independence, for example, and thousands are killed in riots around the world each year. What may be surprising, however, is that riots can break out anywhere. What's more, as the above examples suggest, while the underlying causes of civil unrest are often the "usual suspects" of racial, religious, or political divisions, seemingly inconsequential events can suddenly trigger mass violence. Fortunately, while you may not always be able to avoid riots, ther... More About: Survive
