Ottawa's Mayor top aid resigns
2008-03-20 14:23:00
OK It's bad enough Larry has lost several top aids one after another. Just put in the revolving doors. But this is just ridiculous. The top aid, calls up a radio show and pretends to be joe caller and gives his support to the snow levy. And I will say yes it majes sense to have a snow levy, yes you don't want to city to go bankrupt, but more thought MUST be put into it. Really is $50.00 on the property tax bill called for...I mean what about students with cars, what about renters, renting businesses, etc. I think a little collaboration should be in order. And tiered permanent process should be in play. See yesterday's post for a good example. As for the top aid calling and pretending to be John Doe, well he should resign that move was just stupid.

$50.00 Snow Levy in Ottawa
2008-03-19 20:01:00
OK now the City of Ottawa wants to tax us more. Talk about pissing on the good folks of Ottawa.$50.00 is a bit much. All those poor property owners. And all those poort property owners who have had a crappy job done on their street. why why the last snow removal effort only half my street was done, and these guys get paid no matter what. And half the time their not removing the stuff. You don't know how often I've seen these contractors going up and down my street dooing nothing. AND WE STILL HAVE SNOW ON THE STREET A GOOD TWO FEET. Like I said they only did half.So is it fair to apply a snow levy to property owners! NO IT ISN'T! GIVE YOUR BALD HEAD A SHAKE! We are not the only people driving vehicles aroung this city. There's business! There's all those thousands of people who rent apartments and drive! drive! drive! OK So the owner of the building will try and find some way to pass it on. Crap that's a headache. And what about those people who own a hosue and still don't h...

Cadman and Harper
2008-03-12 14:33:00
Hello all,Here we are in political turmoil aren't we.Harper is suing the Liberals and Dion. Opposition is accusing the Conservatives of offering money to sway someone's vote in the House.Well lets see. What do you believe? I think you had two guys in the conservatives that really wanted to make a change for the conservatives and therefore offered a dying man some money for his vote. he refused. Do you think Harper knew anything about it - probably not. Why? Beause he's busy running the government, the country, etc. He is not responsible for running the conservative party, their are dozens of other serfs to do that.It also makes sense to make that offer of money, because Cadman had terminal cancer no insurance company in the world would have insured him.Is Harper in his right to sue Dion and the Liberals for their comments on their website and to the media outside the House of Commons. I do beleve the liberals comments are slanderous, they occurred outside th House and therefore H...

Ottawa City Park and Hike
2008-02-07 17:01:00
Well it was bond to happen! The City of Ottawa was planning to raise parking meters fees and then it went under review. Now the proposal, by some bike loving, mocaccino loving, sandle wearing tree hugger city worker has put it forward to not pay after 7pm and not on Sunday...whats the point, really. They should have just left it until 9pm and all days.In Ottawa, you pay for parking everyday in Chinatown but not in other places...it's a little hypocritical and obviously a cash grab.So our rates our going up and that's it. Nothin else is hapenning. No out of the box thinking to implement a better cleaner city.Well it's ok to raise the parking rates but it will have an effect lets think about that for a moment. Customers for business's don't want to have to more for parking when doing a quick in and out.One of the biggest areas that will be hit by this is the market. But then it would be nice to have less cars in the market then there is now...it's a real pain to dive there in the...

Baird and O'Brien - two peas in a pod
2008-02-06 15:14:00
Well Baird and O'brien make headlines in Ottawa yet again.http://www.canada.com/ottawacitizen /news/story.html?id=35bab4e2-9a0a-4ebf-a9 5c-2c9afd42b254&k=87155&p=1Those two guys names have come up enough in the past and in the same conversations with police that they are obviously in bed together for a few things.Lets see! Obrien wants to win an election...talks to Baird who some reason decides to cancel a 200 million promise to the City of Ottawa, a promise that would get the much needed transit system a boost (increase in the service depth of the O-train) - this would be a good thing for many people. This delivers a significant blow to Chiarelli, who has been pushing O-train for years.O'brien promises Kilrea a position with the Federal Parole Board (or other federal board) and yet again Baird's name comes up again.Oh Baird! Sounds like your hands are dirty...even if it's not in your agenda you could have still met with him.

The Madness of it all!
2008-01-25 15:37:00
I tell you life in Ottawa is good....but woe, watch out for the political shinanigans going on in Ottawa. Lets take a look at the isotope issue again.I know, I know it's old. But crap it's a good example. No names please...So we have lady X who is a nuclear watchdog, and who decides to close down 1 of 2 isotope providing reactors in the world. Isotopes needed to help people, to save people. Now we listen on how the government boondaggles the whole thing and reopens the reactor so they the government can save lives. The question is why was the reactor closed...is it unsafe? Can we in Canada have a Chenobyl?Big fears for sure...no it was because of the following reasons...no backup system, outdated equipment and something about minor tremors in the region over the past six months.Person X is now canned...oops! Did we step on someones toes. Me thinks so!Anyone I peronsally believe regardless of the system you always need a backup, whether it be power, 911 emergency calls, dispatching a...

City of Ottawa and Crack Pipes...a back alley affair.
2008-01-17 18:39:00
Lets face it...I for one find it difficult to understand why we hand out free crack pipes to crack users. I mean don't you want these people off the narcotics in the first place.Well with the recent budget review in the city of Ottawa they decided no longer to fund the controversial crack pipe program. They believed that the benefits of saving the money greatly outweight the benefits of funding the program. Now the reason the program exists is not to get people off the substance (that would make to much sense) no it's to prevent the spread of disease (HIV, etc.).Now I'm all for the prevention of such diseases. Because when someone gets ill due to them, not only is it life threatening but has a greater economic impact on our already strained health care system. So out goes the crack pipe program. In steps the Ontario Ministry of Health, and what do they do - they fund the program. Someting they should have done in the first place, health care issues should remain with health care ad...

Ottawa Potholes
2008-01-14 15:22:00
This is nothing special but if you live in Ottawa you know what I mean.Potholes are everywhere.Sidestreets, mainstreets even freeways. Is it dangerous sure it is, will it wreck your car sure it will. It's insane the amount of potholes there are in this city, and how long they hang around for.So if you are planning to drive in the city think again. You want your vehicle to last a long time, again drive with caution. There's potholes so big that if you hit it I'm certain your tire would stay in there and your chassi would keep on moving.

Tories Crash 6 points
2007-12-20 16:07:00
Check this out...http://ca.news.yahoo.com/articledet ail/071219-capress-tories_pollSo with a drop of 6 points. What are the causes!Isotopes, Bali, Mulroney - oh my!Isotopes - we need the isotopes to help make people live. To help battle cancer. People's lives are at stake. The Atomic Energy Board said close the site and then you have nuclear engineers saying that the site is old but safe. It's a though call and I personally think the political decision to keep it open was needed to help save lives. However Chalk River must be maintained, it must be safe. There have been numerous incidents the public does not know about that have ocurred at Pickering and that is a more modern nuclear plant.Bali - Baird - enough said! He probably is the wrong guy for the job. But the thing is you tell me it will take 4 years to clean up over 100 years of pollution and I'll laugh in your face. When it comes to the environment Canada needs to act fast, and be an example to the world. We've dedicated ov...

Snowfall shows Mismanagement of Ottawa City Council
2007-12-19 20:17:00
Hello again,With the recent snows that have covered the nation's capital. We now know that for some strange reason the city is now in debt of over $5million dollars because they failed to forecast snow in December?Snow in December what a concept.Snow in December in Ottawa ...holy crap! The end of the world is near. All I can say is what on Earth are these city elected officials thinking. Having small budget for snow-removal in Ottawa is idiocy. We did not have a lot of snow last year, no need to base a decision on previous snowfalls. And even then there should be a surplus left over ---but some how it got spent...I know where - coouncillor salaries and removing the snow from the streets in March when there was no need. What a waste of money...now we need snow removed and we find our city in debt. It's time to make some severe changes to the Ottawa Municipal political scene. Idiots!

City of Ottawa - Crash and Burn
2007-12-12 19:21:00
Now, over the past two days...we havet he following events:Ottawa mayor charged with attempting to manipulate his election yet he won't step down until convicted or cleared. Points finger at John Baird.City council approves services rate increases pretty well everywhere and parking rates jump to.John Baird also from Ottawa, snuffs youth coalition environment group in Bali. This is not the time to be polite. Because the city councillors are trying not to increase property taxes, and I agree, they have decided to raise fees across the board. Some solutions to the city's problems are in order:1) Administer a non-civic citizen user fee. Were people outside the city of Ottawa must pay a permium rate to use our services. This would include usage of arenas as well.2) For Arenas, it's time to bring in corporate sponsorship, ads, named arenas, etc. What's wrong with the Adobe-Jim Durrell Centre, or Laura Secord-Barbara Ann Scott Arena. Yes, sell out!3) Downtown core: sure raise parking met...

Remember no lying! This should be interesting...even if Baird said to Larry "I'll see what we can do!" "or just listened to Larry and his proposal could spell ruin for Mr. Baird. It would mean he lied earlier this year when he said he did no such thing. A politician lie...really now. He must be a lawyer. We shall see how this plays out...the goblin watches and will listen intently in the halls of Parliament.

Student Sticks it to Ottawa School Board Trustee
2007-12-07 15:30:00
This is a short blur to talk to you about a young girl featured in the Ottawa Sun earlier this week. Madison McSweeney.A school board trustee has been polling the parents of Ottawa area schools to see if public schools should wear uniforms! GASP and SHUDDER! Uniforms in school boards. What a novel idea, this coming from a volunteer elected school board trustee, who spends tax payers money on trips to Vegas, Newfoundland and even San Diego...I wonder if he got the idea for the uniform from Las Vegas...remember Mr. Brockington what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas! Now am I for or against uniforms...either way you cut it, both sides do have valid arguments, create a standard uniform, cuts down on potential gang attacks for those $200.00 shoes mom and dad bought (who's fault is that - mom and dad look in the mirror). Really what growing child needs expensive shoes...$20.00 sneakers should be good enough. And let us not forget about all those studies that say school marks are boosted by c...

Did Mulroney take the envelop?
2007-12-04 03:47:00
Did Mulroney take the money while in office...the centre topic for the Mulroney InquiryLets see he was a lawyer and worked for high paying private companies, before he became Prime Minister. By all assumptions I would say he made more money as a lawyer then as PM.So that means he had a high cost lifestyle, we all heard the rumours of the fames shoe closet Mrs. Mulroney had. They wined and dined with the wealthy after so they have to maintain a certain perception of wealth. So did he take the money while in office? Who knows? Why would he? To pay for the expensive lifestyle they had...I mean between the money that was spent by his wife...and then all the kids went to schools in the states, and not the little cheap schools either the expensive kind. A man has got to find some way to pay for everything. How does one cover up, or hide the acquisition of so much money...easily you ask for cash and never deposit it. It's you petty cash as it were.Did he do it in office? That is a matter ...
The Great White North.
2007-11-28 16:15:00
Harper in Africa once again slams Kyoto. Personally I think he hates Kyoto what do you think?Secondly, I think he wants the Arctic Ice shelf to melt a few more 1000 square kilometers. This would make it safer to all those boats that would be using it, and help make those millions of dollars for all that shipping that will happen between the East Coast and Asia or Europe and Asia. That's why you have all these countries saying that the North is there's. From the Russian flag at the bottom of the Arctic sea bed to the Canadian soldiers taking down a small Danish flag on a piece of rock in Operation Frozen Beaver. So a delay in meeting global emission reduction targets would be a way to melt a few more icebergs in the North and a way of securing that famed North-West Passage.BUT WAIT... you know that it's not all about shipping...what has pushed the Canadian economy so high lately...oil...oil...and a few drops of oil..if we lay claim to the North, we will lay claim to the thousands of...

Mulroney to be probed - What does it really mean?
2007-11-15 03:20:00
Sounds nasty doesn't it.Why would Harper do the unthinkable in the circles of Conservatism? Why would Harper challenge the 'godfather' of the PC party? Why, Why, Why?Well here's a theory you might like...and it goes back to Harper and him hounding the Liberals with the Adscam. In any situation should the current prime minister be responsible for the past potentially illegal affairs of a past prime minister...No they shouldn't.Let's think for a minute...Harper was were in 1992-1993? No where near his current role. He was but a drop of oil in the Alberta oilsands. Now here he is...prime minister. And here we are an arms dealer making statements that he made a deal with Mulroney a past prime minister, while he was in office. If he wasn't in office it's no big deal, its a private busines transaction, but a prime minister in bed with an arms dealer...oh the scandal. And Harper wants to be as transparent as he will allow. As transparent to identify he is not committing illegal actions...

Retailers Unit

Well we heard it from everywhere. Retailer s lower your prices and then some. But wait the retailers say they can never meet the low low prices in the States...why is that.Let's see Canada has a better standard of living then the States...is it possible?Higher minimum wage, better benefits...we have duty taxes as well, insurance and a longer shelf life and less buying power. So that will equate to high prices...I agree it will. But the big stores like Wal-Mart Canada have lowered their prices...because they have the buying power. So who's going to get hurt in the end the small businesses the mom/pop shops that work hard to provide you a service or good. And lets face it Canada does have some really good benefits...like if your a woman...you can get up to a year off for maternity leave...wow! A whole year. In the States you legally get 2 weeks! Two weeks. So before we go into possibly the worst recession ever for Canada - ensure you shop in the country and governments like the provinces...

Canadian Economic Boon

Be very very caerful we're hunting best deals!Lets face it the dollar is high, very high. With the lower of cost of goods in the States, well that makes for an attractive reason to cross the border and do a little "window shopping".With 82% of the Canadian population living within 2 hours of the US border we have a responsibility to ourselves and our economy to shop here in Canada. but the retailers have a greater and bigger responsibility to encourage local shopping and to remain in Canada. The government is trying by reducing the GST another 1%...but now its time for the retailers to do their share.

Harper's Tax cuts raises dollar some more
2007-11-02 15:37:00
Hello again,Halloween is past the day. And here we are with a special treat from the Harper government. A reduction in GST and Income tax savings. This is a lot of money on a National level. What does it mean, it means billions of dollars in Canadian pockets, and a larger GDP. By Household that's a lot of beer and popcorn. but then that's a lot of Billions of money not going into the federal coffers...I wonder what will happen then...will we still be able to pay off the debt of past governments, improve health care, and schooling. Oh yeah those are mainly funded by provincial taxes...up with those again, wait and see.And the result of all this is yet another push for the Strong Loonie. You know I need to see a picture of a Loonie beating up a Bald Eagle.!!!!

Today's Wounded Canadian Soldier and the Afgahn Mission
2007-10-24 15:09:00
Anyone looking at the Post or inside the Ottawa Citizen will see the photo of a wounded Canadian soldier crawling in a sandstorm.A picture is worth a thousand words. As soon as I get a copy of it I'll post it up. This picture was pulled from the web and tells us a different story a good story.Today's sandstorm photo tells us the truth. Our soldiers are helping the Aghan country, we are there because of 9/11 in which our allies and even our people, Canadians died as well that day, our allies and our people were attacked. Al-Queda and the Taliban are considered indifferent from each other. They help each other and fund each other through drug money, opium. They train each other and work together. They are an unseen enemy on the other side of the globe. The best way to battle the Taliban is to educate their young to show them a different life and hope that they choose a route that is different then what the Taliban and Al-Queda offer. Even so Stephen Harper and the conservatives want...

Liberals Abstain
2007-10-17 23:53:00
Well now...The Libera ls Abstain ...or will they.Of course the People's Assembly of Quebec vote no on the speech. and the NDP.But it shows you just how much leadsership the Liberals have...not much. The key here is that the Liberals abstain on issues they brought in, on issues they battled for, for a long time. Hell they are the ones that signed for the Kyoto Protocol and did nothing. They are the ones that have been harping on Harper to honour the Kyoto Protocol. So in truth the Liberals are what bigots, hypocrits or just cowards or all? Because we all know that if they vote no, they will force an election. An election that would see the Liberals hardpressed to keep their leadership, keep their seats, and ultimately keep their jobs. And I'm sure the poor Liberals don't want to loose seats to the NDP, Bloc, or worse the Conservatives.

Stephen Harper aims to speak to the masses and not a single opposition member is happy. Now really, everyone of them has been complaining about the time of the speech (need wine with that). Complaining about how it does not give them time to analyse what it is, not enough time for the media to interprete what Harper says.Well I for one am not complaining - and as a voter I'll tell you why. I don't have to wait for a recorded version later in the night or to analysts interprete what they think the speech means. No the push of 3 hours is great, because I'm still working at 3:30pm. Now I get the chance to watch and listen to a throne speech on my own terms and live, no recordings, no analysts, no taping. Hoorah!

Ottawa Mayor and Harper's Inner Circle in Bed Together
2007-10-12 15:08:00
Eh! Ottawa Mayor Larry O'brien continues to make headlines with his bribe of Kilrea. Check out this article.http://www.canada.com/ottawacitiz en/news/story.html?id=714bc9f1-70dd-45c8- 849b-c9b4a8fd804d&p=2Now he's pulling in Stephen Harper 's campaign managers. Interesting indeed. Now we know Harper wouldn't be involved in this himself, but the fact that Baird was previsouly mentioned and now the campaign manager is mentioned is not good. This will not help the public image of the Conservative Party locally as it creates a negative perception. Perception holds a lot of weight with the people. You know that theory - guilt by association, and the headline is damning enough. For those people that only read the headline, will get and keep that 'perception aspect altogether.
