?Most People Was Fighting.?
2008-05-21 16:29:00
A lock-down was caused by a brawl involving more than 600 prisoners- er, students. Although from the pictures, it looks like a prison, it is actually Locke High School in South Los Angeles. Now, I'm not familiar with schools in large cities; the largest school I ever worked in was in Iowa City. However, I just don't see how a love for learning can be fostered inside this type of environment.

Kennedy Has Cancer
2008-05-21 00:29:00
Experts say he has a year or less: BOSTON - Sen. Edward M. Kennedy was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor Tuesday in what could be the grim final chapter in a life marked by exhilarating triumph and shattering tragedy. Some experts gave the liberal lion less than a year to live. Doctors discovered the tumor after the 76-year-old senator and sole surviving son of America’s most storied political family suffered a seizure over the weekend. The diagnosis cast a pall over Capitol Hill, where the Massachusetts Democrat has served since 1962, and came as a shock to a family all too accustomed to sudden, calamitous news. While I don’t agree with his politics, I will remember Sen. Kennedy and his family in my prayers tonight. Cancer is nothing to joke about. CNN Breaks Down the Cause of $4 a Gallon Gasoline
2008-05-20 14:35:00
Surprise, it isn’t Bush: One of the most common reasons cited for the price jump is supply and demand - we are using more oil, which accounts for 70% of the price of gas, and finding less of it. Why we are finding less oil and using more of it is partly a result of the low prices during the 1990s. Those low prices - partly caused by low gas taxes in the U.S. compared to other developed nations - both encouraged rapid consumption domestically (think SUVs) and underinvestment in new production by the world’s oil companies. By the time 2004 rolled around - and developing economies around the globe roared to life - the world was left in a pinch. “Our demand has skyrocketed, but our ability to supply that demand has stagnated,” said Stephen Schork, publisher of the industry newsletter The Schork Report. Gasoline prices topped $2 a gallon for the first time ever in May of 2004, “and we’ve been off to the races since then,” said Schork. Why don&#...

See, This is the Problem With Congressional Republicans
2008-05-20 14:24:00
They are losing elections because not only is the base disgusted with them, but the center doesn't trust them. They simply do not do what they say they will do. They used to stand for small government, now they pass $300 billion farm bills, loaded with earmarks and tax breaks.

Beyond Appalling: Boston Children Hospital Now Doing Sex Changes
2008-05-20 00:06:00
From Fox News: Boston ?s Children ?s Hospital bills itself as the hospital for children ? and now it?s also the hospital for children who want a sex change, a procedure some critics are calling ?barbaric.? Dr. Norman Spack, a pediatric specialist at the hospital, has launched a clinic for transgendered kids ? boys who feel like girls, girls who want to be boys ? and he?s opening his doors to patients as young as 7. Boy Hurt By Line Drive, Family Sues Bat Manufacturer, Little League
2008-05-19 19:57:00
This is a really tragic story. Steven Domalewski was playing little league baseball in 2006, when a line drive hit him in the chest, stopping his heart for 15 to 20 minutes. During this time, Steven suffered brain damage from a lack of oxygen to the brain. A terrible accident. But the family of young Steven sees it differently, and have sued the maker of the bat that hit the ball, Little League Baseball and the Sports Authority, the store that sold the bat. It claims the defendants knew, or should have known, that the bat was dangerous for children to use, according to the family’s attorney, Ernest Fronzuto. “People who have children in youth sports are excited about the lawsuit from a public policy standpoint because they hope it can make the sport safer,” Fronzuto said after filing the suit Monday morning. “There are also those who are skeptical of the lawsuit and don’t see the connection between Steven’s injury and the aluminum bat.”...

U.N. to Decide If America is Racist
2008-05-19 19:35:00
Barack Obama will be the Democrat Party’s candidate for President of the United States of America . He will be the first American of African descent to earn the party’s nomination. In a time where he can achieve what no minority in the history of the country has ever done, win the seat of the most powerful person in the world, what is missing? A United Nations investigation into the role racism played in the election. As an African American politician is set to assume for the first time in the country?s history the leadership of a major political party, a Geneva-based United Nations human rights investigator plans to come here next week to investigate whether racism plays a role in the presidential campaign, according to a statement released yesterday. The special rapporteur on ?contemporary forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance,? Doudou Dične of Senegal, will arrive in America Monday for a two-week tour that will take him to Washi...

30 Military Stories Many Didn?t Hear About, But Should Have
2008-05-19 09:00:00
Operation: Hear ts and Minds is a Newsvine group I started to detail the positive news about our military that is often overlooked. Too many good news pieces are not reported on because of body counts or the “If it bleeds, it leads” attitude of the media. Quite a few of those stories end up here. I also try to cover a story on the podcast about our military and show the progress they are making around the world. But there are so many (currently my “Military News” RSS feed has over 1000 stories in it!), it is difficult to cover them all. So, in an effort to do more, here are thirty stories that you might not have heard about, but should have: Let us pray for our brothers and sisters as they go forth with courage and determination to face the forces of violence, weapons of destruction and hearts filled with hate. McCain?s Cap and Trade Plan Would Hurt the U.S.
2008-05-18 15:03:00
Is there any wonder McCain is being rejected by the conservative base? Is there any wonder Republicans are losing seats they have held for decades? It is the rejection of traditional conservative values that is driving this, and will result is a Democrat in the White House, a Democrat Congress with enough votes to stifle any opposition and liberal appointments to the Supreme Court.

The Politics of Movies
2008-05-16 16:44:00
Hollywood is generally thought to be one of the most liberal and oddly ruled kingdoms in our country. Political opinions are thrown out by movie stars every day, and arguably, they are listened to as much as opinions given by the politicians themselves. In fact, movies are often classified, not on the merits of the films, but on the personal views of those who are involved in making them.

Fred Thompson is Writing for Townhall
2008-05-16 14:29:00
Fred Thompson , my first choice for the Republican presidential nominee, is now writing for Townhall.com. In his first article, he writes: Our nation has some serious issues to work through for today ? and for the next generation. Now isn?t the time for conservatives to be looking for a tailored message or a politically expedient route to victory if the end result is going to be the inevitable slide toward the liberalization and secularization of America, and the growth of government and loss of freedom that inevitably ensues. For us conservatives it must be about principles and policies that are grounded in freedom, free markets and the rule of law. That?s what I?ve been talking and writing about for the past few years, and that?s what I want to talk write about here on Townhall and in the new Townhall Magazine. I have to wonder, with him having written the above, how he can support John McCain for president. With John’s faith in the CoGW, you can expect an expansion of gove...

?I carry a gun for the same reason I wear a seatbelt?

It isn't that gun owners wants to use the gun they carry, just like no one ever wants to use the seat belt they fasten in their car. But, as I have said over and over, it is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

RIP Guido Sohne
2008-05-16 13:41:00
I got an e-mail from a Newsvine friend of mine via Facebook, alerting me of the death of Guido Sohne. I met Guido on Newsvine, and I can’t recall ever agreeing with him once on any issue. But despite that, I knew Guido was a good guy, a very passionate guy, with a big heart. He apparently died on May 2. From Newsvine user djehuty: Guido Sohne The following message was posted to NV in a comment thread by Guido’s sister in law. She has agreed to me giving it wider notice here. FYI, Guido passed away in Nairobi last week. He was only 34 years old. Here is a 5/6/08 facebook post from his sister Sandra: I am sorry to have to inform all of you of Guido’s sudden passing in Nairobi. We know he died at home between Friday night and Monday morning. We do not know the cause or time of death. However, no foul play is suspected. You’ll all agree with me that he was an amazing human being who had so much to give the world and who was working to make the world a s...

Homeschool Advantage
2008-05-15 06:27:00
One of the great advantages of homeschooling versus attending a government school is the flexibility in scheduling and the ability to tailor a program of study to an individual student. Mattias Gassman is a great example of this. This over-achiever will graduate from college one week after graduating high school. And we’re not talking about a degree in liberal arts. Mattias Gassman, 18, will graduate summa cum laude with two bachelors’ degrees from Iowa State University on Saturday. He majored in biophysics, German and classical studies. Gassman started taking college courses when he was in fifth grade and enrolled full-time at age 14. ISU officials said he completed more than 232.5 credits, which is twice the number needed to graduate. Gassman’s parents home-schooled him and by age 11 he scored high enough on the SAT to enroll in Latin 101 at ISU. School officials said he earned an “A” in the course. “He was very self-directed. He might spend ...

Let Freedom Ring - Even In Yemen.

My Cotillion sister, Jane Novak, blogs passionately about the corruption of the Yemen i government at her blog, the Armies of Liberation. She is also a contributor at the Jawa Report. They actively suppress journalists who seek to uncover and promote truth.
