Reflections on a ?Political Rally?
2008-04-22 03:28:00 I am not the most expressive person. I can?t type well, and often get thinking faster than my fingers move. However, I want to share a few personal impressions from the ?Freedom Rally ? in Washington DC on April 15th, 2008. read more More About: Political , Reflections , Ron Paul
Gala Rouge 2006 Pinot Noir France
2008-04-21 23:31:00 It?s biggest failing is, except for the tannins and acidity, a certain lack of intensity for this wine. Good for dinner, but probably not really for sipping. Better choices might be the 2006 Pizza Vino, the 2005 Lorval, the 2005 Tortoise Creek and the 2006 Arrow Creek. One from Calinfornia, the rest from France . read more More About: Pinot Noir , Noir , Wines , Gala
Standing Up for National Sovereignty, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-04-21 07:00:00 As we all know, there have been significant moves recently to expand the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) initiated by President Bush and his Mexican and Canadian counterparts in 2005. One such plan is to construct a so-called ?NAFTA Superhighway? running from Mexico , through Texas , and up eventually into Canada . I have opposed this project from the beginning, signing on as a co-sponsor of House Concurrent Resolution 40 expressing Congressional disapproval of the NAFTA Superhighway and any moves toward a North American Union . read more More About: National , Ron Paul , Sovereignty , Paul
Growing Carrots for Freedom and for America
2008-04-21 01:41:00 When you look back the things that make you smile, glaze you eyes with a mist of happiness, are not about things. It is the people you love who make life worth while. Remember the glowing face of your daughter when she came home to tell you she got the tole of Peter Pan in the school play. That stays with you no matter what. read more More About: America , Freedom , Carrots , Growing
Rolling 2005 Chardonnay Australia
2008-04-21 00:41:00 Well, Rolling does exactly that. It rolls, but mostly downhill. A wine that?s better suited to dinner (just barely) than sipping (just barely). It?s one wine you might skip, as there are other better choices out there. read more More About: Australia , Chardonnay , Wines
Double Trouble of Taxation, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-04-20 07:00:00 Taxes were on the forefront of many Americans? minds this week as they scrambled to meet the April 15th deadline to file their returns. Tax policy in this country hurts taxpayers twice ? once when they pay taxes, and then when the government spends the money. Americans are sick and tired of the financial burden and the endless forms to fill out. To add insult to injury, after collecting this money the government does some very detrimental things to the economy. read more More About: Double , Ron Paul , Taxation , Paul , Double Trouble
Bank Socialism
2008-04-20 00:41:00 In this age of bail-outs of investment banks by the Federal Reserve, because the banks got too highly leveraged in credit default swaps and other "structured" investments, we are looking at a house of cards. If you want to look after your own true self-interest, get into gold, but do not trust a bank or dealer to hold it for you or keep it at home. Big Brother confiscated it from people once before, in 1933. They could do it again, and the safekeeping of even foreign gold vaults could be without a real guarantee. read more More About: Finance , Socialism , Bank
Children do not belong to the state of Texas, or any other state
2008-04-17 16:25:00 "As described by an FLDS mother named Marie, Texas authorities physically separated the children from their mothers and then forced the mothers to assemble in a closed room. ""They read a court order and said, 'Your children are ours,'" recalled Marie during a press conference, an account that has been, so far, left un-rebutted by Texas officials. Indeed, the state is brazenly working to make that separation permanent" ... read more More About: Children , State , The State
Tribute to Bernie Baltic, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-04-15 20:01:00 Madam Speaker, I rise to pay tribute to Mr. Bernie Baltic of Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Baltic, who recently passed away, was a tireless champion of liberty. His advocacy of applying the freedom philosophy to the issues of the day was made all the more effective by his voracious reading of both the classics of liberty and the latest policy studies. read more More About: World , Ron Paul , Paul , Tribute
The Morpheus Proposal
2008-04-15 18:52:00 "As Beardsley Ruml pointed out in the 1930s, with the ability to issue currency, the government has no need to tax. It can print as much money as it would ever need. Therefore, in his view, the function of taxes such as the income tax and the inheritance tax, is not to fund the government or provide for constitutionally mandated functions. Instead, the function of these taxes, he wrote in his article for Foreign Affairs magazine, is the redistribution of wealth. From whom? From those capable of producing wealth" ... read more More About: Proposal , Democracy , Matrix , Morpheus , Ayn Rand

The Fair Tax: Universal Welfare is Bad for America
2008-04-14 23:33:00 Libertarian Presidential candidate George Phillies today pointed out a deep flaw in the "Fair Tax" advocated by some Republicans, including former Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee. "The so-called 'fair' tax has two parts, namely a sales tax on almost everything, and a monthly welfare check mailed to every household. Fair tax advocates say the welfare check is a tax rebate, but you get the check even if you paid no tax." read more More About: America , Taxation , Universal , Welfare
Enslaved FLDS mothers appeal to Texas governor to help kidnapped children
2008-04-14 14:57:00 "SAN ANGELO, Texas ? The mothers of children removed [kidnapped] from a West Texas polygamist sect's ranch after an abuse allegation are appealing to Gov. Rick Perry for help." And this comment sums the situation up nicely: Tubal wrote: Wow. Baptist ministers* rape teen girls too. Let's go take all the Baptist kids and lock them up. Then when their mothers want to come see them, lets tell them no. Then when the mothers that they rounded up too want to call their loved ones to tell them what's happening, lets take away their cell phones. read more More About: Terrorism , Religion , Children , Governor
Grego 2004 Old Vines Tempranillo Spain
2008-04-14 00:32:00 It?s a wine that is got no real off-notes but not much to crow about either. It?s a wine that?s most like a cab more than anything else. If that?s your ?bag? give it a try. Best with dinner than for just sipping. But at this price, better buys might be had else where. Check our best of list.... read more More About: Spain , Tempranillo , Blend , Wines
Bailing Out Banks, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-04-13 07:00:00 There has been a lot of talk in the news recently about the Federal Reserve and the actions it has taken over the past few months. Many media pundits have been bending over backwards to praise the Fed for supposedly restoring stability to the market. This interpretation of the Fed's actions couldn't be further from the truth. The current market crisis began because of Federal Reserve monetary policy during the early 2000s in which the Fed lowered the interest rate to a below-market rate. The artificially low rates led to overinvestment in housing and other malinvestments. When the first indications of market trouble began back in August of 2007, instead of holding back and allowing bad decision-makers to suffer the consequences of their actions, the Federal Reserve took aggressive, inflationary action to ensure that large Wall Street firms would not lose money. read more More About: Finance , Banks , Ron Paul , Taxation

Redwood Creek 2006 Pinot Noir France
2008-04-10 23:23:00 Redwood Creek ? France ? You know, I?m seeing more and more of this. French wines with American names. Shouldn?t Napa Valley protest to the International Trade Commission over this? We can?t call our sparkling wines Champagne. Why should they get to use American names for their wines? And it?s a somewhat pedestrian wine that is best suited for dinner than for sipping. read more More About: Pinot Noir , Noir , Wines
E-Day, Not Earth Day
2008-04-10 19:04:00 Earth day is becoming outdated. It is an annual feast, albeit somewhat austere and backward looking, of celebrating and urging the simple life, the medieval life. Earth day is a symbol of negatives. Let us, rather, celebrate E-day! read more More About: Earth , Earth Day
Statement on Earmark Reform, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-04-10 07:00:00 Madame Speaker, abuses of the earmark process by members of both parties demonstrate the need for reform. However earmarks are hardly the most serious problem facing this country. In fact, many, if not most of the problems with earmarks can be fixed by taking simple steps to bring greater transparency to the appropriations process. While I support reforms designed to shine greater sunlight on the process by which members seek earmarks, I fear that some of my colleagues have forgotten that the abuses of the earmarking process are a symptom of the problems with Washington, not the cause. The root of the problem is an out-of-control federal budget. I am also concerned that some reforms proposed by critics of earmarking undermine the separation of powers by eroding the constitutional role Congress plays in determining how federal funds are spent. read more More About: Reform , Ron Paul , Paul , Statement
Deadly Sins for Everyone
2008-04-09 22:44:00 Since the Catholic Church scored big with its first Seven Deadly Sins back in Century No. Six they've recently decided to do a sequel (Seven Deadly Sins II?). Predictably, the new Deadlies are a mix of politically correct, socially manipulative and ruling-class-friendly injunctions. And vague. What is "obscenely" rich? What is "social" justice? The church, of course, is full of deadly sins itself, such as pedophilia and power-drunkenness. The Vatican, with all its gold and ivory inlaid art treasures and bejeweled crucifixes and priceless paintings and statuary and such is "obscenely" rich. What they could and should have done was identify real sins that really make real people in the real world worse off, like these: read more More About: Morality
We are Taxbucks
2008-04-09 22:36:00 We are Taxbucks. We say "we" because you never find one of us alone. Taxbucks always run in packs, usually in millions, often in billions, and ever more frequently in trillions. Many of us started life in a form known as "Money." Humans like to keep us tucked away somewhere until they want to swap us for something else. This swapping is called buying and selling. It's a trade that humans do voluntarily. If there's no swindling or other trickery going on, both sides are happy because both sides get what they want. read more

The Emerging Surveillance State, by US Rep. Ron Paul
2008-04-07 07:00:00 Last month, the House amended the 1978 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) to expand the government?s ability to monitor our private communications. This measure, if it becomes law, will result in more warrantless government surveillance of innocent American citizens. Though some opponents claimed that the only controversial part of this legislation was its grant of immunity to telecommunications companies, there is much more to be wary of in the bill. In the House version, Title II, Section 801, extends immunity from prosecution of civil legal action to people and companies including any provider of an electronic communication service, any provider of a remote computing service, ?any other communication service provider who has access to wire or electronic communications,? any ?parent, subsidiary, affiliate, successor, or assignee? of such company, any ?officer, employee, or agent? of any such company, and any ?landlord, custodian, or other person who may be authorized or ...
