Democrats: Sour Grapes & Bad Attitudes = Bad Losers
2008-04-24 00:22:00
There is one thing for sure; an observation I can make about the blindingly loyal Obamabots -- They have nothing nice to say about Hillary.I find it ridiculously hypocritical to spend so much time bashing Clinton, demanding that she quit, and calling her unelectable when it is Obama that has lost the last couple of contests.I am not like them, because if I were, it would be completely reasonable to now demand that he stops his campaign and steps aside. Hillary is the most current winner, and the one that has lead more recently in the primaries. I could advance that Obama is in fact experiencing some "buyer's remorse" from the loyal. I am one of those that agonized, flipped and flopped, but when I took the time to hear them both speak made my choice, and she is the one I prefer, but I will not fully denounce him because of it.You can't hate her with all your might, and then say you will support her if she runs against McCain. No more than I can say I only support Hillary, and will ...

Keep it up! It's time to refill the coffers! Here's an idea, give half of the "stimulus" check that George W is sending you to Hillary . Keep half of this money for yourself, and use the other half to put the person in the White House that will change your life!Think about it.How much of a slap in Bush's face is it to fund Hillary with money he sent to you?!I owe this idea to my partner, and it's a great one!How much will Hillary raise by morning? It's up to you!Pledge to her campaign through this link.Don't just hope for change, Vote for it!Hillary 2008!

Early Pennsylvania Exit Poll Results
2008-04-23 00:12:00
From the AP:One in 10 voters changed their party registration since the start of the yearAbout one in five voters said the race of the candidates was among the top factors in their vote. About as many said that about the candidates' gender. As in earlier primaries, at least half of voters said the economy was the most important issue facing the country. About half as many said Iraq was the top issue. Health care trailed in importance. What does it mean? I don't think it tells us one heck of a lot.Huffingtonpost has more details here.8pm can't get here soon enough!Good Luck Senators!

Boy, it speaks highly of us out here in "pennsyltucky" when we can't even get the candidates name spelled correctly on the touch-screen.What is worse than this error alone? The fact it wasn't caught immediately by a staff member, instead it was a voter that caught it.Embarrassing!

Reasons to Vote for Hillary
2008-04-22 21:27:00
It says reasons to vote for Hillary . They are mine, and if you like them fine. If you don't...fine. Just remember that this race is not over yet, and that our ultimate goal is to defeat John McCain in November. Having said that, here are some of my reasons to vote for Hillary:1 -- I think she is easily more likely to beat John McCain in November!Say what you will, but no one has more experience at dealing with the GOP hate machine than Hillary Clinton! Many want to say this is not a valid reason to support her, and I would say it's not the only reason, but it's one of the big ones! Imagine the shit-storm of hate the GOP will release the moment a nominee is declared? I have seen Senator Obama stumble enough already to wonder if he is really prepared to deal with this on not? I am not saying he won't be, I am saying that I am questioning it. Don't freak out over this, it's my opinion, and as I have voted already there is nothing you can do to change it. So, if you are ...

Hollidaysburg, Ebensburg, Altoona Area...Voting Clinton!
2008-04-22 18:10:00
Early reports from the Altoona Mirror are highlighting votes for both, but it seems that stories of Clinton votes in these areas are outpacing Obama votes. One thing is for sure, this primary is going to be one for the record books!State College -- PSU: "I remember going with my mom when I was 5 and I remember the paper ballot," said sophomore Shannon Scott of Maryland. Today, Scott knew she would vote for Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton when she stepped up to the electronic voting machine. "She has the ability to tell the truth," Scott said. "I want a person I can believe in. I think Hillary said it, that we're not looking for someone who's a good speaker."Hollidaysburg, PA: One of those Democrats was Edna Carney who said "Hillary all the way." She said Hillary has the experience of helping her husband during his eight years. Ebensburg, PA:(9 a.m.) - It was a sign of the intensity of interest in today's Democratic primary that Adolph Raymond, 87, of ...

Patton Township -- Voters & Clinton Supports in Force!
2008-04-22 17:56:00
Kodos to the CDT for the early reporting!"Outside a flurry of last-minute supporters approached voters in an exchange of mints, nail files and handouts. At the corner of Waddle and Strouse road, Hillary Clinton supporters held signs high to catch the attention of passing motorists and those pulling in to vote. "We expected it to be busy busy busy and it is," said Marge Fleming, majority inspector for the precinct. "There was a line before we opened and it went out around the building." By 9:30 a.m. 213 people had voted. The precinct has 1,880 registered, 50 of which were absentee ballots. "At this rate we'll be well over 1,000 and that's rare in this area," she said. The turnout had shifted from its usual 2-1 Republican/ Democrat margin to 2-1 in favor of Democratic voters, she said."Not all the young people are voting for Senator Obama:"Everything brings you out I supposed," he said. The 27-year-old voted for Clinton. "I actually never have voted i...

The Centre Daily Times is keeping it's eye on the ball:"Voting brisk at PSU, in county"Obama, senator from Illinois, and Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York are fighting a fierce battle for Pennsylvania votes at the same time that nine Republicans and three Democrats are fighting for party nominations for Congress. At a State College precinct, South Central 2, a dozen people were lined up to wait for the polling place to open at 7 a.m.. By 9:30 a.m., more than 100 Democrats and more than 30 Republicans had cast ballots. ?It?s been steady ? no lulls,? Judge of Elections Jeff Kern said. Polls close at 8 tonight.Good Luck Senators!

I voted Democrat...Let the Election Day Anxiety Begin
2008-04-22 16:50:00
Well, I did the deed.I am so thankful that I live out in the sticks, where the voting is light until about 4pm.Obviously, I cast my vote for Hillary Clinton , and by all accounts I was in good company with that decision. Now we wait.I hate the post vote waiting! I can only imagine how much of a roller coaster this is for the candidates. I know first hand, and by way of the many commenters here and on the other blogs I write on that their is no shortage of passion in this election. I would imagine there is an equal amount of anxiety now too.Just remember, we are all Democrat s with one real goal in mind: Beating John McCain in November! No matter the outcome, no matter the winner, there is something larger at stake than simple love for Hillary or Barack: Taking back the White House.Try to keep the big picture in mind as this primary continues to move forward, or perhaps becomes decided tonight. Don't be so obsessed with your candidate, and (dare I say it) bitter if he or she loses...

Once Again...Obama Fails to Close, PA will go to Hillary!
2008-04-22 06:58:00
He spent twice as much money. He had six weeks to take his momentum and his message to the voters of PA.Yet...We expect that Hillary will still win Pennsylvania tomorrow, perhaps by a stronger margin that expected. How is this possible?Because Barack has again failed to close the deal. I have to wonder, if he isn't able to close a primary, how can we expect him to close the deal on a national race against John McCain? This comes back to electability. Hillary is far better on that score.I think Obama can handily beat McCain, but I am not as confident of that as I am that Hillary can destroy McCain in November. Look how she handled the skepticism of Keith Olbermann tonight. She is skilled at dealing with criticism in ways that Obama has not proven to be when under the gun and in need of an immediate response. Keith is still wondering if Hillary was laughing at him, at what he asked, or some combination of the two???Having said that...I think that a combination of Hillary & Barack...

Hillary Clinton: The One to Beat!
2008-04-21 22:30:00
There has been much in the way of posturing from both camps as we come to the close of the Pennsylvania primary race, but one thing remains clear: Hillary is the one to beat!Barack and his millions of dollars have not bought this election...yet.Hillary has earned my vote. She has earned the votes of countless students in this college town. She has earned the votes of those who needed, wanted, and decide who to vote for, based on details. No other has endured the constant roar of the GOP and the extreme right, and yet is still standing and fighting for New York and the nation at large. No other is more ready to take on the McCain machine. She is eloquent, where Barack fumbles when the script changes mid thought. She is equal to the task of winning the White House.Like her or hate her, she is the better person for the job at this moment, in this cycle. She is the best equipped to defeat McCain. She is the more electable in the big race! That matters...It matters a lot!Don't believe the hy...

Pittsburgh Tribune Review Endorses Hillary Clinton!
2008-04-21 06:46:00
This says it all:The Tribune-Review mentioned Clinton's record and experience in making the choice in the Democratic vote, but also cited her willingness to sit down with the newspaper's editorial board."Clinton's decision to sit down with the Trib was courageous, given our long-standing criticism of her," the paper said. "That is no small matter. Political courage is essential in a president. Clinton has demonstrated it. Obama has not." (emphasis mine)That is no small endorsement! This is a huge vote of confidence from a source that has a long history of tough criticism of all things Clinton. Again:"Political courage is essential in a president. Clinton has demonstrated it. Obama has not."I don't know that I would totally agree that Obama hasn't shown "political courage," but I would absolutely agree that Senator Hillary Clinton has!She is battle tested and well vetted to deal with the GOP in November.Nice work Tribune-Review, I guess in the age of media labels, there i...

Hillary Clinton: Pennsylvania Hires You for President!
2008-04-21 04:52:00
Hillary came to State College tonight, and she taught us not only what she stands for, but how she will put her plans to action for America. She was well attended, and very well received. I met Mark McCracken (Democratic candidate for District 5), and saw Rick Vilello on the sidelines as well, no sign of Bill Cahir though? We waited with thousands of our closest friends in the rain to see the Senator that would be called "Madame President ."John Murtha, and Governor Rendell introduced her to the exhilarated crowd who were on their feet and eager to hear her plan for America.Hillary started the night the way every visitor to Penn State should, with a robust:WE ARE!Here is the main place she stands out from Barack Obama ; where he offers inspiration on the stump, Hillary not only gives you hope, she gives you details about how she will turn America around. She was direct, and spot-on with her criticisms of Bush & McCain. She only criticised Obama on policy points, which is easy...

Hillary Clinton takes 3 more Superdelegates!
2008-04-19 15:48:00
This race to the nomination is not over! Not even close! How can anyone say that Hillary should quit, when she is still motivating voters, winning Pennsylvania , and continuing to collect the endorsements of Superdelegates?More and more, Americans are seeing her as the only candidate with the real experience, battle tested drive, and plan to not only change America, but to fix it! April 18th is the day she won the approval of 3 more Superdelegates. She picked up two former Governors from New Jersey and a delegate from Ohio .Representative Betty Sutton of Ohio also came out in support of Mrs. Clinton . The district she represents is in northeastern Ohio. ?I have had the opportunity to engage in significant discussions with Senator Clinton about the concerns and hopes of the people I am so honored to represent,? Ms. Sutton said in a news release. ?She has demonstrated a keen understanding of the pressing issues, such as the need to create economic opportunity for working families rig...

Thoughts Post PA Debate from Taylor Marsh
2008-04-18 19:53:00
Now I am not sure I would go as far as this in my description, but these are valid questions after a kind of lame debate. The questions were weird and pointed, but that doesn't change the fact Senator Obama didn't handle them well.It makes me wonder what he will do in the same situation when he is debating against McCain?Kinda scary if you ask me.Anyway...Thoughts to consider is you are undecided at this late date:"I'm thinking here of Obama not holding a hearing on his sub-committee, ducking the Kyl-Lieberman vote, as well as not doing anything on Iraq while he was a senator. But also, his inability to take a firm stand on other issues, even something as simple as walking away from Rev. Wright, which clearly would have been the most courageous choice. The truth is that Senator Barack Obama seemed to resent the questioning of Gibson and Stephanopoulos. Remind you of anyone?"Hillary will be here at Penn State, University Park Campus, on Sunday April 20th at 8pm.Don't just hope f...

PA 05: Are GOP Conservative Candidates Required to have Police Files?
2008-04-18 18:29:00
OK...Who out there really believes either Matt Shaner or Derek Walker are the best choice to represent Pennsylvania's District 5 in Congress?Seriously.Who doesn't see Matt Shaner's successful evasion of the police in 2007 as a critical character flaw that flies in the face of is self-proclaimed conservatism?Who doesn't see Derek Walkers criminal charges for stalking, trespassing, and I think burglary (?) as enough to immediately make him ineligible to represent us in the Congress? How can any reasonable person see past the huge character inconsistencies of these two candidates? Both blame politicians when they get into trouble with the law.Shaner blamed his alcohol related crash on the political powers trying to smear him. Sorry, but political opposition didn't tell you to drink, drive, wreck, leave the scene, hide in your home, and then come in the next day to admit alcohol was involved, pay a fine, leave and then finally freak out on the CDT, blaming all your misjudgments on s...

PA 05: Derek Walker & Matt Shaner both have trouble with the law
2008-04-17 20:24:00
What do Matt Shaner & Derek Walker have in common? They have both triggered the millionaire clause as they pursue the PA District 5 primary. They both have close family connections to energy companies in PA: Oil for Shaner and coal for Walker. Now they also have trouble with the law in common!First we had Matt Shaner with his unfortunate drinking incident where he drank, drove, wrecked, left the scene, called the DA while hiding in his home from the police, denied wrong doing, to then admit it, pay a fine, and hope that all PA voters would forgive and forget. Now this breaking story in the CDT (thank you CDT!) about his challenger, Derek Walker:Thursday, Apr. 17, 2008Stalking, burglary charges filed against Congressional candidateCLEARFIELD ? Fifth Congressional District front-runner Derek Walker was charged Thursday with two felonies and four misdemeanors in connection with an incident last August at his former girl friend?s house in Clearfield.voters_walker...The criminal com...

Matt Shaner -- Ethically Challenged Candidate for PA 05
2008-04-17 17:47:00
I love that Matt Shaner's only defense when anyone points out a valid concern about his candidacy, is to accuse them of "going negative."He is like a whining child with this answer to any question of his character, past, or ability. It is not "going negative" to question the past of a candidate for Congress. Especially when the facts support the details that are exposed for the world to see in newspapers and public police reports. Besides, we the voters have questions about the qualities and qualifications of all candidates, and in the case of Shaner there is precious little to go on. He has no real experience. So we have to seek out information where ever we can find it.I love his new ad that claims he is "leading" the charge to stop the tolling of I-80. How?! He is, at this moment, just an ordinary citizen who can't do that any more than I can. That requires his election. Typical politician, confusing what he would like to do with what he has already done. And more to the...

"Bitter" PA Voter -- So Much For Inspiration from Obama!
2008-04-12 04:56:00
Well...Senator Barack Obama has sunk below the level of popular expectations again. I don't think this can be seen as "inspirational" here in Pennsylvania or anywhere else:"And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."Okay, now I am unclear.I thought he was all about the church goer? This is not a very faithful friendly comment. What a horrible set of comprehensive stereotypes!I would think a candidate that has surely been subjected to many terrible stereotypes himself; that he would be more cautious, careful, and thoughtful in his comments. Apparently not, according to Senator Barrack, the citizens of the mid-west and Pennsylvania are "bitter" and blaming everything on something or someone not like themselves. Perhaps they are bitter! But did Barack ever sit on an 8 hour long job application line for a McD...

PA Voter Endorses Clinton Anti-Crime Agenda
2008-04-12 00:32:00
Hillary continues to define a winning strategy for America and for Pennsylvania:"We've got to get back to doing what works. I'm old-fashioned about that. I think you should actually look for solutions to problems -- find out what works and execute. Enough with the talking, enough with the speeches, enough with the rhetoric," she told a group gathered in a gymnasium at the YMCA. "At its core, this agenda is about responsibility. It's about the federal government fulfilling its responsibility to help restore order in our communities, to pave the way for economic development and new jobs and to help families feel safe here at home."Bravo Senator Clinton . Once again, she is direct and honest. Why do we need fluffy rhetoric, when solutions can be defines so succinctly? And for those in PA suddenly panicked and hiding their guns -- Relax she's on your side too:"I would start looking for a balance and find some common ground and end the polarization that has gone on," she said. Obama & LGBT Community = Silence Equals Death
2008-04-11 23:08:00
The biggest reason why I support Clinton over Obama is also the most personal to me.Marriage Equality is something I speak of often, passionately, and with great reason on this page and many others. I am well versed in the discrimination that is proposed and government sanctioned in the interest of "protecting" marriage. Both Hillary & Barack have given time and energy to seeking my support as a gay American. Hillary has put her money, her reputation, and her belief as American on the line to openly and thoughtfully support my relationship where Barack has been woefully inadequate. In the 80's, as Reagan ignored AIDS, the activist community adopted the slogan that "Silence Equals Death ." I hate to be a negative nelly (hehehe) but I am not hearing enough from Senator Obama to counter my fear that his Christian beliefs won't powerfully influence his policy positions. Not only has he not said enough on this score, he hasn't successfully dealt with questions of this all along th...

Obama -- The Question of Extremes?
2008-04-11 22:22:00
OK...I think I have made my opinion clear on this, but...I wonder if anyone else is concerned by the Reverend Wright and his extremist views of America as a man of God?I wonder if anyone else is concerned by Bill Ayers and his role in the Weather Underground? What do these two extremists have in common?Barack Obama .I like Barack. I really do. If he should win the nomination process, I will most enthusiastically vote for him. But the reason for that vote may not be the one you think. You see, these two connections are exactly the reason I don't completely trust this candidate. In the case of Reverend Wright, I can see no way to clear Barack of any implications with this man. Wright brought Obama to Christianity, married him and baptized his children. In over 20 years of worship at the helm of the Wright church, Barack would like me to believe he didn't know of his extremes or listen en raptly to his sermons? I think that is an thin and unconvincing argument. I know I would p...

Hillary Clinton's Vision of Change Earns 3 Super-Delegates!

This primary is NOT OVER!We the People have not had enough of the democratic process!Yesterday, April 10th, Three superdelegates chose Clinton for President of the United States of America! The talking heads, pundits, and news media would have us believe that this race is over, and they are wrong! The race is tight, it is heated, and it is the best example of the democratic process that we have.I will be pleased to see this march to the Democratic Convention continue. That is what America is about.Barack Obama, and those that support him, would have you and I believe that he is the heir apparent, but I am smarter than that. Media & pundit bullying of the electorate is shameful. They are trying to push us into saying "enough is enough already." That is not good politics or good reporting. We have two highly qualified candidates for the democratic nomination, and both of them deserves the opportunity to sway the votes of America, until the electorate of America declares one t...
