The Hawai i legislature decided not to vote on a measure creating Civil Union s for LGBT couples in the state...Effectively killing the measure.Now, as you know I am no fan of the Civil Union game at the state level. That is not equality, it is something much less! Marriage Equality requires federal recognition of our relationships first. Once the Federal government conveys the same 1,000+ rights and responsibilities that come with a state issued marriage license, I will be able to get behind the local level Civil Union movement. People think these measures are progress, and on some level I suppose I agree, but less is not more, and it is certainly not equal! Equality is what I want, and it is my right as an American to demand it. Equality is supposed to mean something in this country. North Dakota legislature is attempting to overturn a hundred plus year old law that bans the cohabitation of two consenting adults, equating that relationship to a sex crime! The issue seems to have come to the fore of relevance via senior citizens that are unmarried for a variety of reasons but cohabitation for mutual support and love.I am shocked to see North Dakota isn't the only backwards state that still has such a law on the books, joining them are: Florida, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia. It seems ridiculous to me that there needs to be debate on this issue. It's a no brainier!
