Congratulations Senator Obama...Congratulations Democrats!
2008-06-04 03:03:00
Finally, the votes are in...All of them!Senator Obama is the Democratic Nominee, and will be President of the United States of America!Thank you to both Senators Clinton & Obama for energizing and motivating America to change to Democratic values. The time for change has come, and the youth of America have ushered it in!Listen up politicians, from both sides of the aisle...You are on notice! The youth of America are taking the reigns of the political machine, and that will mean rapid change that you either become keenly alert to, or face the end of your political career. The politics of fear, fag bashing, and and disenfranchisement are over. Today is a new day, and I hope it is the start of a new chapter of greatness. Has anyone watched the creepy speech from McCain in Louisiana? The only thing the GOP can do to give McCain a chance is to keep him from in front of the camera. He looks old, feeble, and less than clever when he thought he was being particularly clever. Scar...

2008-05-16 23:02:00
This song strikes me every time I hear it. Here are the lyrics. Tell me what you think? It's late I know but I can't sleepPeace of mind is hard to keepI saw it on the news todayA thousand lives just blown awayI want eyesI want eyesAnother page in historyBut the why is still a mysteryWon't you come so we can talk this throughDo you need me now like I need youI want eyesI want eyesOn the beach lies a boyThrown away like a toyIn the field lies a manLeft behind, he was calling, callingNo one saw him dieSitting there you're telling meThat everything is meant to beBut when I say I can't go onI know I'm not the only oneI just can't live on planet hopeAnd watch the world go up in smokeI don't know how to face the factsWhen I see a child respond to impactI want eyesI want eyesI want eyesI want eyesSo I wake every nightWith the same dream in mindIn a field there's a manLeft behind, he was calling, callingNo one saw me cryCallLevel42 is my favorite band of all times...And songs like ...

Open Letter to DNC Rules Committee -- Seat Fl & MI
2008-05-16 19:34:00
Inter-party debates aside, it is time that the Democratic party rise to the expectations of the voters. This is my letter to the DNC Rules Committee urging them to seat the delegates in Michigan & Florida. This is not about candidates, but about how much we as Americans value our right to vote."Dear Sir or Madame:I am writing today as a concerned citizen that wishes to see the higher moral ground of the Democrats preserved in light of the mistakes in Michigan & Florida. I know this issue is complicated, and that the stakes are high for the two candidates seeking the party nomination, but this question of votes is much more fundamental to who we are as Americans, and it demands your careful and thorough consideration. In the United States of America, when votes are cast by citizens, they are then counted and acted upon accordingly. Our Democracy has always stood by this basic and righteous approach to government. Well, until the failed votes of Florida in 2000; that trave...

Sure, Hillary was expected to win big in West Virginia.Sure, those of us who support her, and those that don't knew she would have a good day yesterday in West Virginia.Sure, the polls had indicated that winning West Virginia was squarely in Hillary's column.BUT...Did anyone expect Hillary would win each and every country in the state of West Virginia? This is not simply a win, this is a message sending win!Yes Hillary won West Virginia by 41% over Obama, and yes that is an incredible margin, but more important is the message it sends. And bare with me, the message might be convoluted, and can surely be interpreted a thousand different ways...But...How can anyone deny that Hillary is more electable in November when she wins, and tightens so many of these late races in the primary season? How can anyone deny that Hillary has broad based support when she is able to pull out Indiana, narrow North Carolina, and blow West Virginia clean off the electoral map? How can anyone deny the ...

Hillary Up by almost 40% (!) in Latest WV Polls!
2008-05-09 00:01:00
Okay...So I said I was done.Well I am...Mostly.How can anyone deny this win as potentially massive as this? 40% over Obama?!I have to say I am sick and tired of all the calls for her to quit! Anyone that suggests that is a raving moron! I always ask those I have heard say it:"What...Too much Democracy for you?"I mean it. Come on people, she isn't being shut out of this race, and neither is Obama. There is no logical reason to believe either should step out of the way of the nomination process when either can still win any contest with that kind of margin. Moreover, when both are polling right up the middle nationally, there is even less reason for them to step down. America hasn't decided on the nominee yet. Democrats are not yet 100% comfortable with either of them, and are completely comfortable with the clock running. That time offers time for reflection, observation, and contemplation. It offers critical time to decide.Notice that the "super" delegates aren't rushin...

Marriage Protected: SB 1250 -- DOA in the PA Senate!
2008-05-07 21:34:00
It's official, two consecutive sessions in a row, the so-called Marriage Protection Amendment in Pennsylvania has failed to move from the Senate . Actually, last year it didn't make it out of committee. This year it did, but was tabled because the Senate knows that there is virtually no path to approval on the floor.I must say, I am very proud of one Senator in particular: Vincent Fumo (D-Philadelphia).Many amendments were added, but his was the only one that really spoke to "protecting marriage.""One of the amendments was by Sen. Vincent Fumo, D-Philadelphia, who proposed that Pennsylvania outlaw most divorces. His amendment would ?outlaw the dissolution of most marriages in Pennsylvania,? he said in a news release. That would mean there would be few legal ways for the divorce of a married couple, a man and a woman."Finally, some one is paying attention to the ridiculous nature of these amendments. They are not designed to protect marriage, they are put to paper souly for the ...
I give up!
2008-05-07 05:16:00
We are a party split right down the middle.50% or so seem to love Hillary.And...50% or so seem to love Barack.I have said before I will vote for either, and I will! I will vote a bit more enthusiastically for one than the other, but I can't take the up and down of this primary race.I am tired of the polls. I am tired of the pundits. I am tired of the hype on the blogs from any and all direction. I am as guilty as any of trying to promote my preferred candidate, but I can't take it anymore.Someone tell me when it over. Better yet, don't and I will find out when I go into the booth in November to vote for whomever is chosen to defeat John McCain. I hate the anxiety of this process, and I don't know how either of the candidates endures this?!So let me know when it's over. Or don't tell me at all. I take comfort in the core belief that we will be a stronger and more unified party when this is over. We are already! When was the last time so many Democrats cared about wha...

Edwards Votes for Hillary Clinton
2008-05-06 19:52:00
As seen on Donna Darko, and confirmed by People Magazine:"Elizabeth: I like Hillary?s health care plan. I don?t like his health care plan or his advertising on health care, which I think is misleading.John: I like something different about Hillary. I think her tenacity shows a real strength that?s inside her." I wish we didn't have to wait to election day for this, but I have great respect for how the Edward's played their cards in this race. I think John has held things close in hope of another run at VP, which seems silly to me, but that is what I think he's up to.

Obama's New Hit: Unelectable
2008-05-05 20:01:00
I have been careful to not bash this candidate, because I know I might have to vote for him in November, but this is just too fun to ignore!Liberal Rapture revised the famous lyrics to "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole, and gives us this little gem. And what's better, is that someone has recorded it! You can listen along by clicking here. I can see this as an ad in the future, and that takes it from humorous to horrifying real quick.Unelectable, that's what you are Unelectable, your past is just too bizarre That whiff of smug that clings to you Your mentor has become the big issue Never before have you been more, Unelectable, in every way And forever more, that's how you'll stay That's why, Barry, it's incredible That you've become so unelectable. Attention FEC: Illegal Caucus Activity from Obama in TX!
2008-05-03 06:07:00
I am still trying to digest what I just read over at MyDD. Possibly one of the most scary and disheartening things I have seen this entire election.Pacific John claims to have evidence (lots of it) of caucus fraud in Texas. PJ is a credible source to the best of my knowledge. I hope he gets the attention of the media & the FEC on this. Superdelegates, and pledged delegates in caucus states need to pay attention too. This has the potential to blow up the winning model of Senator Obama ! This has the potential to rip the democratic caucus system to shreds right before our eyes. This has the potential to send people to jail for voter fraud! Obama may be stealing this election?! This alleged old-school style cheating...Not the tricks of liberal, but those of a shady back room mob boss. Honestly, I hope it's investigated and proven false, because if it's true...It's the most terrible thing I have ever read. It will mean that our votes really do mean nothing, and my Ameri...

Tuesday: The Game Changes As Voters Endorse Hillary!
2008-05-02 20:28:00
I am done with the delegate count stuff.Neither Hillary nor Barack will likely gain enough votes to win the nomination outright. We know this ad nauseum by now. So stop talking about it.This will be a contested Democratic Convention, as it should be!And on Tuesday the rules of the game will be changed by the will of the voters! The direction of the nomination will be changed on Tuesday. The tone of the Convention will shift on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the game will change! On Tuesday, Hillary will vastly pad her lead in the popular vote. On Tuesday voters will show momentum for Hillary by way of votes of confidence for her that were once not thought to swing her way. Voters will change the game on Tuesday because the luster of inspiration isn't enough to make change happen. The voters will change the game on Tuesday because the Senator from Illinois is becoming less consistent. The voters will change the direction of the wave of democracy on Tuesday because electability is more i...

Indiana: "Experience Makes Hillary Better Choice"
2008-05-02 19:40:00
Hillary picked up the endorsement of a Star today: The Indiana Star. The IndyStar is the largest newspaper in the state, and it has chosen Hillary over Barack to beat McCain in November. Experience is trumps in the race, and that is what it will take to lead America and to beat McCain in the fall. And what an endorsement it is!"Clinton offers a clear-eyed view of the way things are. She offers nuanced positions on how to address the war in Iraq, trade with China and economic expansion. Her depth of knowledge is remarkable. As impressive as Obama appears, he is still in his first term in the U.S. Senate, and only four years ago was serving as an Illinois state senator. His inexperience in high office is a liability.Clinton, in contrast, is well prepared for the rigors of the White House. She is tough, experienced and realistic about what can and cannot be accomplished on the world stage."Wow, another print media source that gets it! That is exactly the crux of the argument between ...

worst. president. ever.
2008-05-02 18:22:00
Oh look...It's official!I have faithfully called George W. Bush the worst president in our history. I made these allegations prior to his election in 2000, I reprised them at the top of my lungs in 2004, and it took America until May 2008 to figure it out!Bush has lied us into a war for oil that he falsely claimed was to protect America from terror. He squandered the opportunity to unite us after 9/11 and instead started hammering a wedge between us that kept us divided until this year and the rise of the democrat wave. He has destroyed our economy. He has ignored post Katrina New Orleans. He has dismantled our good standing in the world. He has turned us into a rogue nation in the eyes of the international community. He has taken from the poor and given to the rich. He has killed habeas corpus. He has lied, cheated, and stolen in the name of greed and power. He has sat idly by and watched over 4,000 American soldier dies, without so much as one appearance at one memorial...

Day two of O'Reilly gate. The show that none thought possible. Hillary Clinton goes on The Factor, and not only does she walk away untouched, she comes away from the interview stronger than she went in!Hillary was spot on!Articulate as usual. Competent on the issues, and ready to school her critics on what it means to be a leader in America. I was amazing, and a lovely close to the interview that started yesterday.I will quote Taylor Marsh:"The final segment, suffice it to say, was on illegal immigration with Hillary Clinton standing her ground, taking Obama and his campaign to school. Watch Hillary Clinton. This is how you "take on" Fox News , to use the Obama team's words. You do it with charm, though knowing the facts helps a lot. Review on the Bill O'Reilly two-day interview: flawless. Obama couldn't come close to this performance, nor could any other Democrat. It takes a woman to tame Bill O'Reilly. It's clear he enjoyed it. So did she."To sum up: Hillary ...

Clinton: 3 New Super Delegates in 24 Hours!

Yesterday we had the Governor or North Carolina. Today Hillary earned the public support of one superdelegate from Pennsylvania, as well as one from Puerto Rico.Nice going Hillary! You have fought hard to win these votes of confidence, and I am confident more will follow. In fact, I think many that have "committed" will switch to your election, as the Obama candidacy continues to struggle against electability questions.Today, I am pleased to report the President of AFL-CIO has endorsed Hillary Clinton with his vote as a superdelegate. No small endorsement there! Bill George is a Pennsylvania super with considerable influence and power. Pennsylvania Super delegate Bill George announced his support for Hillary Clinton today. George said Clinton was the best equipped to beat Sen. John McCain in a general election and deliver real solutions to the challenges facing the working families of Pennsylvania and the nation. Tell PA Senate to Vote "NO" to Marriage Amendment
2008-04-30 19:32:00
The Senate Appropriations committee will vote today on SB 1250 -- The heretofore named and so-called "Gay Marriage Ban" Amendment to the Pennsylvania Constitution. This proposal, championed by Gib Armstrong (R-Lancaster), is the latest attempt to add discrimination to the Constitution of PA. More importantly, this is a clear indication of lost priorities by the governing body of this state. As Pennsylvania wrestles with issues of tolling I-80, lowering unemployment, attracting green employers, taxes and the like; I fail to see how "protecting" marriage from gays is a high priority? This ranks somewhere up there with the late night raise the legislature gave itself a few years back.Marriage Protection protects no one!Pennsylvania is poised to move this hate-based legislation from Committee to the full vote of the Senate. That is a sad state of affairs in this Commonwealth! And it is something that demands our collective attention. If you believe this piece of legislation to be...

Clinton More Electable in November
2008-04-30 16:33:00
I don't know that I would have made that claim a month ago, and certainly not before the Pennsylvania vote. But now, after Obama lost another high profile contest (PA) to Clinton , and especially in light of the newly fueled Reverend Wright controversy, I don't see how anyone still sees momentum for this candidate? I see momentum for the GOP against this candidate! As I have said before, when you rise like a rock-star, there is no where to go but down, and that is the direction that Obama is headed at the moment. Like it of not. And the final hit came from friendly fire by way of his own Pastor. Obviously Reverend Wright has an ax to grind, and on some scores I think it's a legitimate set of arguments he makes. And while that may be true, he is causing harm to a great candidate for President. Obama doesn't need, nor does he deserve this flack. I especially find it distasteful because I strongly object to religion in the political process. But not everyone will be able to ...

Obama on Wright: Is it too little, too late?
2008-04-29 23:26:00
Barack has Wrightfully come out in full condemnation of his pastor. I am pleased to see he has taken this action. Politically what choice did he have? This wasn't going to blow over, and it likely still won't, but he had to speak on it. Actually, this is the second time that Reverend Wright has distracted the candidate and the nation over issues that have no place in American politics.I can think of no better argument for the separation of church and state than the current controversy that threatens to derail Obama from the nomination. This is precisely the issue that caused me to distrust Obama all along. He has not been able to demonstrate to me that he sees a clear line between his faith and it's effect on policy. I am incredibly uncomfortable with any politician that sees God as a reason for doing anything political in America. Secretly, well not anymore, I cringe when any member of this government closes a speech with "God Bless America." That phrase always begs the q...

Wright Goes Wrong -- Throws Obama Off The Bus!
2008-04-29 05:07:00
I was not a big advocate of the attacks on Reverend Wright, but like Senator Obama 's admission today, I did see it as a valid political discussion. I was impressed the day after the original story broke when Obama crafted, or rather, delivered an inspirational speech to denounce and claim ignorance of Reverend Wrights comments in the now famous sermon at his church.I was caught up in the questions, and followed in the belief that it would be impossible to divorce Senator Obama from Reverend Wright. I didn't believe that Obama could be 100% clear of the commentary as this preacher brought him to Christianity, married him, and baptised his children. To claim ignorance of his brand of preaching and the content therein seemed highly unlikely to me.Further, I found myself as I tried to decide on a candidate to wonder about Obama's real intentions, and what we really know of his inner beliefs? I questioned how someone so great could be associated with some so low? How could the gr...

Fl & MI Voters: Seat Our Delegates
2008-04-25 17:36:00
I just tripped across this link which has a petition to lobby the powers that be to seat the delegates in Florida & Michigan.I don't get why these primaries aren't being counted. Talk about "playing politics." I have heard that arguments against it, and I see what people are getting at, but those feelings don't change the fact that Susie Citizen in Florida went to the polls, as is her duty on election day, and she went behind a screen to cast her vote. Regardless of who she voted for, she voted, and in this democracy all votes are to be counted. That's what I was taught in grade school, and I will bet that you were all taught that as well.In Michigan, Johnny Voter went into the polls on election day, as all Americans should. He did his duty as a citizen and cast a vote. Blind to the controversy that would come, he voted for his candidate and left feeling good about what he did. Now, he is disenfranchised. This fight is ridiculous. I understand the fear of either side...

PA 05: Mark McCracken Poised to Turn District Blue!

It has been a very long time since a Democrat has been in Congress representing Pennsylvania's 5th District . Too long! Mark McCracken (Dem - Clearfield) will challenge Glenn Thompson (GOP - State College) for the honor of representing us in Washington. I believe this is a race he can really win!McCracken has proven himself widely popular in our sprawling district, and when you combine that with both the Democratic fervor and the Republican apathy of the Presidential race, I think you have a recipe for success. He will have to work hard for sure, and I know he will. I was impressed to see him at the last Hillary rally in State College. He was working the line, and told me he had been reading my blog. Showing that kind of knowledge of people, to a person that is for all intensive purposes, a complete stranger is impressive for anyone. Especially to a guy like me who forgets names within seconds of being told them. ;-)Anyway, I think Mark McCracken has the goods to win this elect...

Letter to New York Times from Shakesville
2008-04-24 17:58:00
I have read Shakespheare's Sister since way back in the day. Now as Shakesville, I am still thrilled to read the considerable thoughts of Melissa McEwan. She has this letter she sent off to the New York Times in response to their flip-flop on their own endorsement of Hillary. Of note, Melissa was originally on the team promote the web for John Edwards. I think this is awesome!Dear Editors of the New York Times,In this morning's editorial, "The Low Road to Victory," you assert that "voters are getting tired" of what you deem a mean, vacuous, desperate, and pandering primary contest. My question to you is: Which voters, exactly, are getting tired? They wouldn't, by any chance, be voters who have already voted, would they? You see, some of us, out here in flyover country, haven't had our chance to vote yet. And, funnily enough, we're not actually tired of the campaigning. In fact, we're pretty stoked that we've got a chance to participate in a primary that might actually matter ...

DNC Rules: FL & MI Delegates must be Seated!

DNC Delegate Selection Rules : Florida & Michigan True or False? 1) The DNC Rules state that pledged delegates elected by Florida and Michigan voters must be excluded because those states scheduled primaries before February 5, 2008. FALSE: The DNC Delegate Selection Rules explicitly give the Rules and Bylaws Committee and the Credentials Committee ultimate jurisdiction over delegate selection. These committees, each in their independent capacities, can seat the delegates from Michigan and Florida at their discretion. 2) The mandatory penalty for a state holding a primary before February 5, 2008 is exclusion of that state?s delegates from the Democratic National Convention. FALSE: The mandatory penalty is exclusion of one half of the offending state?s pledged and alternate delegates. Unless otherwise provided, the other half of that state?s...
