SPINELESS: Democrats
2010-12-08 00:20:00
President Barack Obama:  REPUBLICAN. What more can I say.  You all "HOPED" for "CHANGE" and voted.  You dreamed you saw a LIBERAL, but you got duped and ended up with a REPUBLICAN in democratic clothing. OBAMA has turned into the Presidential equivalent of LIEBERMAN.  Don't blame me... I voted for Hillary.  I wish you all had listened to me then.  So sad.  So frustrated.  So screwed!

Democrats: The Party of COWARDS!
2010-12-02 23:34:00
Why do we elect anyone?  Not one of them is interested in doing what is right for the country.  They all are only interested in what is right for corporate America.  The DEMOCRATS are spineless, gutless, cowards.  The REPUBLICANS are pawns for the corporations of America.  Neither gives a rats ass bout the people that voted for them.  They care only for themselves.  They are to the man all obsessed with their own perceived celebrity.  The only thing they believe in is playing devils advocate for the sake of it.  I am ashamed of my representation.  I am ashamed of yours.  I am most especially ashamed of our inept, practically Republican, President.  Barack Obama is EXACTLY the President I expected he would be in 2007 and 2008.  I knew he was spineless.  I new he was anything BUT liberal.  I knew that the idea of him being anything resembling "LEFT" as just plain laughable.  I was right.  I was rig...

The party of "No" will reap what they sow.
2010-11-09 00:00:00
I understand that the pundits & the politicians would like us to believe that "America has spoken" and that the game has been changed.   I don't think it has. Exit polling across the nation was very telling, and it tells a very different story than one would hear in general on FOX or from the lips of and GOP candidate or elected official.  The nation SUPPORTS universal health care WITH a single payer option.  America does NOT support the corporate give away that the current bill amounts too. The NATION supports higher taxes for EVERYONE!  Average citizens understand that we are living on borrowed money, and that cutting spending is great, but cutting alone won't pay the bills.  We have to make payments to improve the picture.   The nation isn't afraid of a DADT repeal.  It is virtually a non-issue until it hits the hands of the politicians.  Then they whip it into a issue they can talk about, but that no one really feels on...

Is it possible? Could it be? Are Democrats more motivated than the GOP?
2010-11-02 18:58:00
I have this feeling in my gut that more Democrats are going to vote today than anyone anticipated.  Polling locations around the nation are reporting higher than anticipated participation.  Some even likening it to 2008.  I know it may be presumptuous of me, but that sounds like good news for Democrats not Republicans.  I can't wait to see the results tonight.
Pay as you go??? RNC out of money & took out a LOAN!
2010-10-22 20:32:00
I thought this was the party of fiscal responsibility?  Seems to me that taking out loans to buy advertising is not such a good idea.  And people want to vote for these candidates why?   In documents filed with the Federal Election Commission, the party said it had $3.4 million in the bank but $4.6 million in debts. The RNC reported raising $9.6 million during September and took out a $2.5 million dollar loan. The party under RNC Chairman Michael Steele has come in for broad criticism from GOP strategists for its anemic fundraising. In contrast, the Democratic National Committee raised $17 million in September. The DNC reported more than $13.1 million cash on hand at month's end and $7.7 million in debts. Once again, as I mentioned yesterday, this looks to me like Democrats are a lot more "motivated" to vote then we have been lead to believe. hat tip:  CBSNews

Democrats are awake and voting!
2010-10-22 00:31:00
Look out Republicans & Tea Party nut jobs, the rumors of your electoral victories may have been grossly exaggerated! As the days pass to November 2nd, an increasing majority of Democrats who were believed to be disengaged this cycle are showing up to vote early.  I for one don't believe the hype from the panicked Republican spin machine that they are tuning in higher early voting totals.  That is inconsistent with every historical model on the party that I know of.  More importantly, a casual GOOGLE search shows a spike in blog & aggregators stories that claim Republican voting and outpacing of Democrats that fly in the face of the pollsters and the generalized news media.  I don't buy it for one second.  It wreaks of wishful thinking and branding.  Some claims of early voter success sound too targeted, like they are designed to encourage that voting pool to show up because heretofore they are missing in the early totals.  I think the ...

New Rule: The Separation of Stupid and State
2010-10-21 00:44:00
Is is too much to ask that people who are elected to office be intelligent?  Why is DUMB the way of the conservative?  How is MORON a good electable point in the voters mind? In response to the regressive rhetoric, and just plain idiocy of O'Donnell, Palidino, Buck, Miller, and several others, up to and including Sarah Palin... I propose a new Amendment to the US Constitution.  We will call it the "Separation of Stupid and State ."  All natural born citizens will be required to pass a rigorous exam covering the inner workings of the US Government, Basic Economics, and Civics.  They must pass this exam to obtain a valid Drivers License.  I see no reason why we shouldn't demand the same level of understanding from our own citizens as we would expect from a legal immigrant attempting to gain US Citizenship. And since we all love English so much, maybe a basic grammar test would be in order too?
Sestak has caught a wave! 3rd Poll in a row showing him ahead of Toomey!
2010-10-20 17:07:00
Come on Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, this is our time to send Pat Toomey back to the jobs he created in China! Via the Washington Post & Muhlenberg College: The Muhlenberg College/Allentown Morning Call poll shows the candidates about even, with Sestak supported by 44 percent of likely voters and Toomey favored by 41 percent. Fifteen percent remain undecided less than two weeks before the Nov. 2 election. The results included voters who are leaning toward a candidate but haven't entirely made up their minds. Two Muhlenberg polls taken between Sept. 18 and Oct. 4 showed Toomey with a slight lead - 46 percent to 39 percent.

O'Donnell, to call her an idiot is just... Too generous.
2010-10-20 01:05:00
Just so scary! "Where in the Constitution is the separation of church and state?" O'Donnell asked him. When Coons responded that the First Amendment bars Congress from making laws respecting the establishment of religion, O'Donnell asked: "You're telling me that's in the First Amendment?"Wow... Just wow.

Joe Sestak pulling ahead in Pennsylvania
2010-10-19 20:03:00
Latest poll shows that Sestak has taken the slightest lead in Pennsylvania over Pat Toomey.  This inspired me enough that I immediately gave money to the Sestak campaign.  Pennsylvania is moving into the "toss up" column.  I think the moderate, reasoned, and rational voters of PA are starting to see Toomey and his political history for what it is:  SANTORUM! If you believe Pennsylvania deserves better than Toomey, open up your wallet and GIVE TO SESTAK in the home stretch of this election.

Just googled Toomey to see what would come up, and got this gem:  www.toomeywatch.com My favorite piece so far from them is this video detailing the fundraising success of Toomey and when some of that money has come from.  Attention Republicans:  The oil companies, banks, health care industry, and CHINA own this candidate.  Check it out.
Joe Sestak -- Cleaning up After Toomey; I think we will need a bigger bag!
2010-10-18 19:20:00
Democrats are on the offensive, and attacking with a vigor that I thought sure only the Republicans knew how to use.  I am kind of proud of them!  I am very guardedly optimistic that they can have much impact on these races with so little time to go before the polls open, but hey, this is definitely a "better late than never" situation.  I love this ad and the message it conveys.  I think it's totally on point, except for one thing.  I think they are going to need a MUCH bigger bag to deal with the crap that Toomey has spread across the Commonwealth.  Actually, this reference to poop makes me think of his contemporary Rick Santorum and the definition that is famously linked to his last name:  SANTORUM.  RETHUG adjacent is how I would describe these two (Toomey & Santorum) sh*tty politicians are.  Check it out for yourself, you will be glad you did.  And they SHARE it with everyone!

Tea Party is the Party of Homophobia!
2010-10-18 17:33:00
Via AMERICAblog. Allow me to introduce Ken Buck, a Tea Party Candidate in Colorado.  One who is in fact leading his opponent (Michael Bennet) by more that the margin of error.  Why is this significant?  Why should you care?  Because Ken Buck on Meet the Press this past weekend told the viewers when asked point blank if "he thought that being gay was a choice?'  He said "Yes."  He even drew a parallel between being gay and alcoholism. He is one of many TEA PARTY candidates that are so far right they make the former "wingnuts" look moderate!  Being gay is NOT a choice.  I wish someone had asked him how many times he had thought who to f*ck, his buddy on the team of the cheerleader?  I would love to know the last time he "decided" to play hetro?  Is it possible that Buck is a self-loathing Bi-sexual man?  How else could he come to the conclusion that sexuality is as uncomplicated as simply "choosing a partner?" Friends, don't ...

Enjoy... Answers to the HATE rhetoric from the Right
2010-10-15 18:54:00
Lifted from the comments on the Daily Collegian.  You may find these funny and amusing, but I can tell you first hand that this is just the tip of the iceberg for the ridiculous questions and accusations you must respond to as a gay person in America. Enjoy . 1. Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, birth control and air conditioning. 2. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall. 3. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract. 4. Marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all: women are property, matches are arranged in childhood, blacks can't marry whites, Catholics can't marry Jews, divorce is illegal, and adultery is punishable by death 5. Gay marriage is wrong because children...

2010-10-14 21:15:00
OK, so look kids.  No I am not happy with our President, but I am not willing to go out there and lay my nose on a block and cut it off out of spite to make some juvenile point to a party of politicians that don't care about my petty little nose. This mid-term election is about winning, just like all others.  And some might say this one is more important to win than the past one.  Majority is at stake, sure.  That is true. What is more important to me than winning majority is sending the most extreme candidates packing with a message to the base that the repugnant messages and beliefs of the Tea Party and the most conservative "values" voters are NOT the will of the majority!  If so much as ONE of those hideous candidates win it will lend an air (albeit thin air) of validity to the plight of these lowest of low, pray on the hate of the populace, politicians. It is time to put our disappointments aside and vote like Republicans.  It is time for us ...

Simple Question: If you wouldn't vote for Santorum, then why would you vot
2010-10-14 20:18:00
I don't get how any Pennsylvania citizen can see past the obvious parallels in the philosophies of these two right-wing nut-job politicians. Toomey values jobs & the economy... Of CHINA! Theorizes about ?creative destruction? rather than average Pennsylvanians? hardships. In his book, Congressman Toomey writes about his theory of ?creative destruction,? which is to say that it?s perfectly acceptable for businesses and industries to fail because it means that new ones are born. [The Road to Prosperity, p. 112] Except not in Pennsylvania. We?ve lost 311,200 manufacturing jobs over the last decade, and those jobs have not been replaced by new ones. Overall, we?ve lost 101,500 jobs over the last decade. [PA Dept. of Labor and Industry] Meanwhile, ?China has eclipsed Japan as the world?s second-biggest economy after three decades of blistering growth that put overtaking the U.S. in reach within 10 years.? [AP, 8/16/10] Vote d for tax loopholes for companies that ship jobs overseas....

Liar, Liar, President's Pants on Fire!
2010-10-13 18:39:00
Promises.  They are about as good on a teleprompter as they are when written on toilet paper. Both are designed to be discarded. President Obama once declared the DADT law as "abhorrent" and that he would overturn it.  He has repeated this pledge a thousand times on the campaign trail to the Presidency, and their are countless videos to prove it.   Now, a judge gives him a gift of a FEDERAL overturn of the law, and the President is going to APPEAL that decision.  In other words, he is going to continue to DEFEND the constitutionality of DADT and continue to discharge soldiers in spite of the majority American support for the repeal. I said it before, when candidate Obama was on the trail, that he was NO FRIEND of the gay community.  I was right. I guess this is what you get when you HOPE.

Chamber of Commerce = Foreign Powers & Business in our Democracy
2010-10-12 18:28:00
You have to know about this.  And if you don't you need to learn about it... NOW! Republicans are running attack ads.  That is not news. That is part of the everyday landscape of our process.  Both parties do this. The difference this election season is where the funding for these ads is coming from.  Foreign (read NOT AMERICAN) businesses & political entities disguised as businesses are funneling record amounts of "anonymous" cash into our elections to influence the outcome.  The US Chamber of Commerce is an aggressive fundraising operation who now has international offices across the globe.  Why would they do that you think?  It's to raise money!  So they can say they are "defending small businesses."  Sounds pretty GOP to me!  Think of all the multi-national corporations that would love to see the continuation of the deregulation of industry in America.  How much would they love to see us continue to ship jobs offshor...

Coming Out to Arlen Specter -- An oldie but a goody
2010-10-11 22:23:00
Obviously, I got no reply to this.  I thought today was a good day to share this oldie but a goody.  Growing up gay in the 80's was no picnic.  My message today:  Life does get better! Dear Senator Specter: I am writing to you because I have had about enough of people making statements that either directly, or indirectly imply that being gay is a choice. Unfortunately, this position seems to be very popular, and espoused by some uninformed -- straight people. First question I always have is, how would you know that...You're straight! As politicians seem to love a good warm fuzzy, real American story to support all the good they have done, I thought I would share with you my experience as a gay man. This way, when you do the right thing, and stand up against the proposed Amendment to the Constitution, barring gay marriage, you will have a good human interest photo-op all ready to go. So, lets look back, shall we? I have always had a romantic interest ...

Equality = Visibility. Come Out, Come Out... Where ever you are!
2010-10-11 18:19:00
Yes, it's Columbus day, but it's also National Coming Out day! I have read so much in the news of tragic teen suicides, incredibly awful bullying, beatings, torture, and hideously regressive rhetoric from politicians in the last few weeks.  Just yesterday the Tea Party candidate in New York unleashed a torrent of hate on the gay community. Hatred & ignorance are born of a lack of understanding and exposure.  Assumptions are made about a people or a class of people from hearsay.  These urban legends become common beliefs in the absence of meaningful experience.  Visibility of the gay community is the only way to educate and soften the views of the heterosexual majority.  I think every person in America knows and perhaps admires a great person who is gay.  The trouble is that they don't know the gay part.  Knowing that lifts us all up. Knowing that can cause reflection, revelation, and perhaps even support in the place of hate, taunts, an...
"HOPE" -- The NEW voter apathy
2010-10-08 00:30:00
I have held my tongue so long, out of respect for those that I truly respect in this political community, but that is over now. It is amazing to me how so many Democrats are actually surprised, and frankly, struggling to find new and valid excuses for the man on the road to making the "WORST PRESIDENT EVER" look like something of a work horse. Sure, President Obama has accomplished some incrementally important things in his first couple of years in office.  I am now in a place where I can comfortably and confidently say "I told you so" about this President of HOPE.  I said from the get go that this President was no liberal.  I said from the beginning he was no friend of the gay.  I said from the beginning that his HOPE message was inconsistent with his political and personal history in public life.  I knew he wouldn't deliver.  I knew his message was really "You should HOPE that some of this will happen, because it should, but I am not going to get m...

2010-05-20 17:48:00
Should someone call Rand Paul?  I am sure they need a featured speaker. Now sure, that's not entirely fair, but did you see Rand Paul attempt to avoid (over and over) questions from Rachel Maddow last night.  She wanted a simple "Yes" or "No" answer to the question of if he believed it was OK for a business to refuse service to someone based on race?  He REFUSED to answer the question, and kept dodging it, and trying to some how equate it to gun rights??? He is not an unintelligent man, so I don't see how he thinks his lofty comparison will some how distract the viewer from his dodge of the question... Over... And over... And over again. This is going to be a big problem for Paul's candidacy, and rightfully so.  The good people of Kentucky should be ashamed to have this man represent them.  Even if we take him at face value that he is racist, and that he can't stand any kind of "government sanctioned bias," it is very difficult to see how his extreme ...

"Dear Democrats, We need to talk. Love -- The Gays"
2010-05-19 20:18:00
I signed the letter, and if you care about equality, I hope you will too. Thanks again to the efforts of the guys over at AmericaBlog for this. Dear Democrats , We need to talk. This may be a hard letter to read, but I need to figure out if this relationship is still healthy for me. For the longest time, I thought we had something special. Remember how much fun we used to have back when we were young, and control of the Congress and the presidency was just a crazy dream? You always used to ask me for help, and you knew I'd never turn you down. You were so adorable when we were courting. Sure, you never really understood me, but I liked that you seemed to try. The White House cocktail parties were totally fun, and that Easter Egg Roll is something I'll always cherish. Or remember the time you let me march in the Inaugural parade! Other than that whole Rick Warren thing, I really thought we had a connection. I know you kept telling me that you weren't ready for ma...

See ya later Arlen. Your big party flip-flop wasn't enough to fool the voters of Pennsylvania.  Those antics might work for Connecticut, but we don't want another Joe Lieberman embarrassing the voters of this state! Sure, your reelection was important to PA just because of your seniority within the Senate, but it was also that seniority which was important for PA to shed. Time for new blood to represent us in the Keystone State.   I voted for Mr Sestak. I voted for Onorato.  I voted for Scott Conklin. I only wish I could have voted for Critz! Now it's time to get serious in PA!  Mr. Onorato has a big competitor in Tom Corbett.  He has branding & message experience behind him.  Onorato has his work cut out for him on this one.  What will be particularly interesting is the race is between two candidates from Allegheny County... aka... Pittsburgh.  This will make Philly important for completely different reasons than usual, and I...

Teabaggers -- The real target of this "movement" is intellect & reason
2010-04-20 19:27:00
OMG! I just picked this up from AmericaBlog, and I can't even begin to explain to you the mixed feelings I have.  It makes me simultaneously angry and so very sad.  How can so many Americans be so clueless as to the world they live in.  They rail against the "liberal media" when it is the beloved FOX that has held them back, and now made them a laughing stock.  The final man on this says "I have been brain washed my entire adult life."  Yes you have, but not by the so called "liberal media" but by FOX and the evil cabal that runs it. Anyone with an ounce of Civics class to their credit can see past the blinding ignorance of these citizens.  Can't some one teach them what America, our laws, and our Constitution mean and how they work in real life?  How can Beck, Palin, and others take pride in distorting the honest patriotism of these misguided souls.  Shame on them! I will wrap by quoting my dear friend Calvin, who put it thusly: "I thin...

My dearest friend from home, and if truth be told the only woman I have ever had a significant relationship with, Jenna passed this perfectly timed article penned by a friend of hers from college.  I think you all will enjoy it, particularly as it relates to my former post on marriage.  A set of points driven only further home by taking my Mom to Social Security this past week to modify her benefits in light of my father's passing last Wednesday.  The woman who helped us there was spectacular, alas I was doubly heart broken in the process as the social security representative told Mom to process her application she would need my Dad's death certificate and their marriage license.  This simple explanation tore at me unexpectedly, as in that instant I realized that neither my partner nor myself would ever have to go through this exchange.  The law sees us as unrelated roommates,  spousal benefits are but a fantasy until marriage is federally made equal...
