WHO SHALL MEET THE LOOMING STRIKE
2007-07-13 06:17:00
(A Poetic Justice Photomontage)Open post to read the poemWho hears the coming tollclanging down upon existence;the hell?s bell strafing the motherlandin shock and awe?s comeuppance?Clang. Clang. Clang. Clang. Not nearly enough of the breathing. For the idle flesh... it?s now beyond remittance.Clang. Clang. Clang. Clang. For whom should it toll? And for how much longer?Ask the twisted faces... staring back in anger.Clang. Clang. Clang. Clang.Behind us, the screeching gloom hunched in wait.In front, that goddamned piece of paperof which... we?ve made a solemn pledge.Clang. Clang. Clang. Clang. What should each of us do?And why should each of us do it?Ask the occupied... that kneel in rigid prayer.Clang. Clang. Clang. Clang.Who should heed the gruesome bell? And who should meet the looming strikeof shock and awe?s reward?Clang. Clang. Clang. Clang. Not nearly enough of the living. For the fallen... it?s now beyond their giving.Clang. Clang. Clang. Clang.Who should stand and hold back hell? And ...

(A Poetic Justice Photomontage)Newsday.com ? Bush Respects the Jury and the Judge but not the Sentence?I respect the jury's verdict," Bush said in a statement. "But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive."National Review Online ? Libby gets what he deserves? freedomSay what??We have urged President Bush to pardon Lewis "Scooter" Libby from the moment a jury found Vice President Dick Cheney's former chief of staff guilty of perjury and obstruction in the CIA-leak case. Now the president has acted. He didn't go as far as we would have liked, choosing to commute Libby's prison term while leaving his conviction, fine, and probation intact. But his action ensures that Libby will not go to jail, and that's a good thing. There were a lot of reasons why presidential clemency was appropriate. The first is that the CIA-leak investigation was a fundamentally political exercise from Day One. Even before the appointment of special prosecutor Patrick Fitzge...

WARRING CHRIST (Blog Against Theocracy II)
2007-07-02 07:06:00
Theocracy is derived from the two Greek words, Qeo/j(Theos) meaning "God" and kra/tein (cratein) meaning "to rule." The Reverend Rod Parsley, a champion of theocracy, or what he calls a "christocracy," told his congregation at the World Harvest Church, located just outside Columbus, Ohio, "Theocracy means God is in control, and you are not." (more)D. James Kennedy, Pastor of Coral Ridge Ministries:"Our job is to reclaim America for Christ , whatever the cost. As the vice regents of God, we are to exercise godly dominion and influence over our neighborhoods, our schools, our government, our literature and arts, our sports arenas, our entertainment media, our news media, our scientific endeavors -- in short, over every aspect and institution of human society."Today's hard right seeks total dominion. It's packing the courts and rigging the rules. The target is not the Democrats but democracy itself. (more)Dying in the meadows,They?ve all fallenLifeless along the windOld men and women,...

Want to know what was on my mind one year ago today? It is time to bring `em home. Time to call it what it is,What it's always beenAnd will remain. It is time to bring `em home.Occasion is now not later.Later's mere deceitWaiting to be slain. It is time to bring `em home.Bomb no more, unlock,Unload their weaponAnd to us return. It is time to bring `em home.To terminate our mourning,To heal our grievanceAnd say lesson learned. It is time to bring `em home. That our love might comeYet again upon the dreamAnd embrace our soul.It is time to bring `em home.To air the people?s voiceAs one of peace and joyAnd unite the breathing fold.It is time to bring `em home.Time to call it what it is,What it's always beenAnd will remain. It is time to bring `em home.End our hold upon Iraq.Later's just a paradeWaiting on the rain.Copyright 2006 mrp / thepoetryman One of the Many Reasons to Withdraw 2007 mrp/thepoetrymanhttp://apoeticjustice.blo gspot.com/atom.xml http://pinger.blogflux.com/rpc

APJ & the Thinking Blogger Award
2007-06-28 01:56:00
The forceps of our minds are clumsy things and crush the truth a little in the course of taking hold of it. ~H.G. WellsKid Sally of Nightbird's Fountain has bequeathed unto APJ the Thinking Blogger Award which I?ll certainly not refuse, ?three times?s a charm?, they say, so I'll accept this one for my muse. By now I would imagine most of you have heard of the Thinking Blogger Award? Thinking, or thought, is a mental process which allows beings to model the world, and so to deal with it effectively according to their goals, plans, ends and desires. I'd say they rightly named the award using the word thinking instead of the word thought, because the Thoughting Blogger Award sounds rather awkward, if not down right stupid. (Why I've been nominated thrice for a thinking award is beyond me...)Where was I? Oh! Yes! My Thinking Blogger Award nominees. There are a good number of thinking bloggers to choose from out in blogospheria, so, if I decide to honor a blogger as thinking, it follo...

(A Poetic Justice Photomontage) The Cheese Stands AloneBy Dana Milbank - The Washington PostTuesday, June 26, 2007 "We'll make statements only today," President Bush announced to reporters yesterday as he sat with the Estonian president in the Oval Office. No surprise there. Vice President Cheney's recent declaration that he is not part of the executive branch has prompted hard questions, and nobody in the White House has a good answer for why Cheney -- who hovered near Bush's desk while the president spoke -- had turned himself into a fourth branch of government. The explanatory task fell to White House spokeswoman Dana Perino, whose skin reddened around her neck and collar as she pleaded ignorance during the daily briefing: "I'm not a legal scholar. . . . I'm not opining on his argument that his office is making. . . . I don't know why he made the arguments that he did.""It's a little surreal," remarked Keith Koffler of Congress Daily."You're telling me," Perino agreed."You ...

WORDS (A eulogy for my Aunt Dorothy)
2007-06-23 15:51:00
My Aunt Dorothy loved words. She loved to write, read, create, speak and have them.In the last five or six years Dorothy and I played more games of Scrabble than anyone here could imagine, except perhaps, Tom and Jan, Dorothy?s next door neighbors, who had to have heard us arguing about a word on of us had just played. Dorothy and I were both somewhat amazed that they had never come over to check and see if the argument had ended in fisticuffs. Of course it never did, much to my relief. Last count we were at about 400 games. That, my friends, is a lot of words. But it wasn?t just about the love of words that she and I shared. It was also the love of coffee. And competition. And companionship. And caring. And her cooking (she loved to cook and I loved eating her cooking.) ...And it was about the laughter and even the tears. Which, when all combined; competition, companionship, caring, cooking, laughter and tears you get a sense of why most of our nearly 400 games took anywhere between...

(A Poetic Justice Photomontage)Family fled Iraq 14 years ago, might now face deportationThe neighborhood Dallal Muhamed lives in is like her life.Near her house in the stretches of Mountain's Edge is a lot losing dust to the wind, the skeleton of another house, some homes where the last roof tile was laid a week ago and a few houses with families unloading groceries from the car. There's an air of instability, the not-yet-ready, the soon-to-arrive, the just-left, the settling in.Muhamed has lived like this for 14 years, moving from Baghdad to Yemen, Munich, Tijuana and finally Las Vegas. She has been a civil engineer, a secretary, a real estate agent and a card dealer in a casino, all while raising a son and daughter.Soon, she may have to pick up again, if immigration authorities deport her to Iraq - the country she fled after being raped, she says, by a gang member with ties to one of Saddam Hussein's sons.Muhamed, who last month lost her bid to stay in this country in the 9th U....
