Salman Rushdie knighthood : A provocative move by Britain
2007-06-22 12:08:00
In my opinion Britain 's decision to award writer Salman Rushdie a knighthood is provocative move. It has hurt the feelings of the world's 1.5 billion Muslims. Those who had chosen to honor Rushdie - the Indian Muslim author of The Satanic Verses, which many Muslims deemed blasphemous for insulting the Prophet Mohammed and his wives - were either naive and stupid, or had just wanted to provoke Muslims worldwide.Honoring Rushdie came at the wrong time and by the wrong country. It will hurt Britain's national security, interests. and endanger the lives of its citizen.Muslims countries should recall their ambassadors from Britain and ask her to tender an apology.

Pratibha Patil, Purdah And Prejudice
2007-06-22 11:44:00
via India Muslims Blog :To start with, credit where it is due. The picture of a veiled woman I posted a few days back was taken by Mirjam, a fine photographer from Netherlands who visits India regularly and has a great photo-gallery at Flickr. While scouting for pictures that could be used as header images for this blog, I chanced upon a picture Mirjam calls Black & Green. I requested for his permission to use it at the blog but his answer was quite a surprise for me. And that is why I posted the image here to get comments from the readers. In retrospect, I think the question I asked was too ambiguous and that is why there were very few responses. Coming back to the woman in the picture, she is not Rani Mukherjee (though her eyes definitely suggest so as one reader pointed out). She is not any other actress wearing a Muslim dress. The fact is that she is not even Muslim! Her name is Papu and she is from the Bhopa community in Rajasthan. She even has her own website, the Papu Pho...

Burn Notice's YOU'RE FIRED!
2007-06-22 09:24:00
Michael Weston was transferred to CIA station office in Peshawar in June 2005. His assignment was to track down al-qaeda operatives in Pakistan?s tribal belt . When he joined the office, he observed that his colleagues were not happy with his arrival. When he started his work, he saw that his colleagues were not giving him the correct information about the area. He also observed that they were meeting with suspicious people. Later, he built his own network of informers. One day an informer told him that a leading al-qaeda figure would arrive in Peshawar?s Afghan refugee camp. He told his seniors about it. But when they raided the camp, they did not find anything. Later ,when he contacted the informer, he informed him that someone had tipped al-qaeda people about the raid. He realized that someone in the CIA office had links with the al-qaeda. His head called him one day and told him that was fired for his connections with al-qaeda. He denied the charges. He got a call from one of hi...

Pakistan : The Case of the missing persons
2007-06-22 08:59:00
It has been observed that the authorities are not obeying court orders concerning the cases of a missing person. The the Supreme Court of Pakistan he summoning of the interior and defence secretaries for an explanation. He he failed to give reasons for not complying with Court Orders. Countless citizens of the country have gone missing, in most cases without a trace and the authorities? attitude on this matter is extremely regrettable. If government continues to to adopt such an attitude will win it no sympathy or support from the people.

US ambassador-designate : I would not say we have unwavering support for Mu
2007-06-22 07:27:00
Anne Woods Patterson, the US ambassador-designate to Pakistan said that US did not unwavering support for Musharraf. Her statement evinces that US is pushing Musharraf to strike some kind of deal with politicians to install a civilians government in Pakistan. She says that US has pushed for reforms in Pakistan. In my opinion , her statement is misleading. US has never pushed for reforms in Pakistan. The way Musharraf favoured his army-men and inducted them in various organizations clearly indicates that he is bent on  destroying institutions. US is showering praises on him because he is dancing tor their tunes.

US fear of Nuclear-armed mullahs
2007-06-21 14:35:00
Christian Science Monitor quotes experts as saying that it was the American fear of ?nuclear-armed mullahs? taking over in Pakistan that had played a motivating role in its policy towards the country since September 11.Such reports or apprehensions are nothing but just absurdity and are reflective of the highly biased Western attitude towards Pakistan?s nuclear programme and capability. Western circles have also been expressing fears that Pakistan?s nuclear assets could pass on to ?extremist? religious parties and even to individual ?terrorist? elements or groups. This is despite the fact that there was not remote possibility of any such eventuality. First of all, Pakistan?s nuclear programme, since its inception, has remained under the safe custody of armed forces.

NATO missile attack
2007-06-21 14:12:00
The death toll from Tuesday?s missile strike on a compound in North Waziristan has reached 34.The residents say that missiles from across the border hit a madressah. The US-led coalition forces in Afghanistan have categorically denied that they had fired any missile. Who is to be believed? In my opinion the authorities should allow media representatives and human rights activists to visit North Waziristan to determine the truth of Tuesday?s explosion. This would have many advantages. It would save the government the odium that is hiding the truth. It would also help establish its credibility.

Turkey will commit a blunder if it attacks
2007-06-21 13:58:00
The daily newspaper Milliyet reports that Turkish troops are shelling PKK rebels in frontier areas within Iraq. Three Turkish provinces bordering Iraq have already been declared "special security" zones.Troops and military hardware are being amassed in the rugged and impoverished southeast, in the country's Kurdish-populated areas.Retired generals and opposition parties are appearing on TV talk shows, urging tough military action against PKK rebels, including a foray into Iraq. However, The government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is taking a softer line. But they do not rule out action  against Kurdish rebels. While incursion into Iraq to chase PKK rebels will certainly calm the Turkish public, it may also backfire -- and any apparent success may be more damaging in the long run, according to some analysts. Professor Sedat Laciner, head of the independent International Strategic Research Organisation (ISRO), a Turkish think-tank, questioned the wisdom of a possible large-...

Fight for Africa's Oil
2007-06-20 21:22:00
The world's most neglected continent is assuming an increasing global importance as the international oil industry begins to exploit more and more of the west coast of Africa 's abundant reserves.According to reports , US is reshaping its whole military policy towards Africa to maintain control of Africa. The Pentagon at present has five geographic Unified Combatant Commands around the world, and responsibility for Africa is awkwardly divided among three of these. The Pentagon hopes to finalize Africom's structure, location and budget this year. The expectation is that it can break free from Eucom and become operative by mid-2008.America's new Africa strategy reflects its key priorities in the Middle East: oil and counter-terrorism.

Salman Rushdie's knighthood will help rally the forces of extremism
2007-06-20 21:09:00
Britain has committed a folly by bestowing knighthood on Salman Rushdie. This folly  will strengthen the hands of Islamic militants and forces of extremism in today's unstable world. It is likely to reignite the frenzy that followed the publication of The Satanic Verses in 1988, Ayatollah Khomeini's subsequent Fatwa against the writer and the celebratory orgy of western self righteousness that ensued in its wake. Across the Muslim world, there have been predictable howls of outrage which, one can only fervently hope, will remain limited to angry protests against a decision deemed spectacularly ill-timed and insensitive.

Pakistan ?complicit? in US moves on Iran
2007-06-20 10:47:00
via Daily Times :The reason the United States is reluctant to support the democracy movement in Pakistan is because it has reached certain understandings with President General Pervez Musharraf on possible military action against the Iran ian nuclear programme, according to noted area expert Selig Harrison, who recently returned form a week-long trip to Iran.He said Pakistan is ?already complicit? and is playing a role as ?destabilisation activity? against Iran has been underway for some time through Pakistan and Afghanistan. However, prevailing evidence does not substantiate this perspective. First, this is the US presidential election period where divergent viewpoints on America?s role in Iraq are uppermost. For America to take any military action in Iran, it would need fresh authorisation from a Democratic-controlled Congress, which is highly unlikely. Secondly, any military action will open a huge third front for which there is no public appetite in the country today because it co...

Pratibha Patel ask Muslim women to stop wearing veils
2007-06-20 10:42:00
India?s governing coalition presidential nominee urged women to stop wearing veils. She said this  practice was introduced to protect women from Muslim Mughal invaders n the 16th century. Now it was time to drop the practice. She made these remarks while addressing a conference in Udaipur. Muslim leaders made a demand to congress to replace her presidential nominee. Maulana Khalid Rashid, a member of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, said it was God who had asked women to wear a veil.Maulana Khalid's statement is misleading. May I ask when did Allah order Muslim women  to wear Burqa(veil) ?

2007-06-20 09:59:00
Vent free heaters is precision engineered burner. These units do not require a vent or chimney to exhaust the normally unused by-products of combustion, and produce only emit 5 to 7 particles of carbon monoxide per hour. While a typical gas stove emits 50 particles per hour. These vent free heaters have become very popular among Americans because of safe mechanism built into these heaters. Oxygen Depletion Sensors installed into these heaters checks the level of oxygen. It closes the supply of gas if oxygen level falls from the normal 20.9% to 18.5%.The Oxygen Detection Safety pilot was developed in 1950 and proved to very effective. No death has ever been reported.

Putin Wins Satirical Prize For Obstructing Free Press
2007-06-19 20:24:00
Russia's President Vladimir Putin has been awarded the "Closed Oyster," a satirical prize granted by a German media group for obstructing freedom of the press. Netzwerk Recherche, a small German journalists' organization that promotes investigative journalism, singled out Putin for "hampering the development of free media" and allowing a "lack of results in the investigation into the murder of journalist Anna Politkovskaya." Putin is the first non-German to receive the organization's negative prize. In December 2006, the Paris-based nongovernmental organization Reporters Without Borders called attention to the extent to which the Russian government and state-run corporations have taken over the country's main electronic and print media, greatly limiting the amount of independent news and information available to the public. Hamas Gaza takeover 'reeks of Al Qaeda'
2007-06-19 18:29:00
via metimes.com :A commentary in the Palestinian Al Hayat Al Jadeeda, linked to Fatah, insisted that what had happened in Gaza "reeks of Al Qaeda and its terrorism," saying the militant Islamist network was spreading throughout the Strip regardless of what Hamas ' political officials claimed. "Assassinating security officials, robbing and searching homes, attacking women, desecrating the Palestinian flag, lying and using religion to cover the continued crimes against our people in Gaza are all part of the savage approach of Al Qaeda's gangs in Afghanistan, Iraq, [the] Nahr Al Bared [refugee camp in Lebanon] and now in the provinces of Gaza," the West Bank-based daily said. It warned that such extremist forces were also making their way into the West Bank, adding that the task ahead of newly-appointed Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayad's emergency government, which President Mahmoud Abbas formed Sunday, would be very difficult, requiring the support of all Palestinian for...

Bush has chosen a local leader for every Muslim country
2007-06-18 10:52:00
via Countercurrents.org : The Gaza Cage What happens when one and a half million human beings are imprisoned in a tiny, arid territory, cut off from their compatriots and from any contact with the outside world, starved by an economic blockade and unable to feed their families? Some months ago, I described this situation as a sociological experiment set up by Israel, the United States and the European Union. The population of the Gaza Strip as guinea pigs. But the experiment is not yet over. The scientists want to know what happens if the blockade is tightened still further. The timing of Hamas? decision to take over the Strip by force was not accidental. Hamas had many good reasons to avoid it. The organization is unable to feed the population. It has no interest in provoking the Egyptian regime, which is busy fighting the Muslim Brotherhood, the mother?organization of Hamas. Also, the organization has no interest in providing Israel with a pretext for tightening the blockade. But...

Lap Band Surgery
2007-06-18 08:59:00
The LAP-BANDŽ Adjustable Gastric Band ing System is designed to induce weight loss in obese patients by limiting food consumption. In this procedure, aLAP-BANDŽ adjustable gastric band is placed around the upper stomach, creating a small pouch. It induces weight loss by reducing the capacity the stomach , which restricts the amount of food that can be consumed. It is the most common form of weight loss surgery in Europe and Australia. Approved by the FDA, it is usually performed laparoscopically. It is one of the least invasive approaches to obesity because neither the stomach nor the intestine is cut. The amount of weight you lose depends both on the band and on your motivation and commitment to a new lifestyle and eating habits. Pakistan : Shameful Behavior of the Opposition
2007-06-17 21:50:00
It pained and embarrassed me when I saw our opposition leaders flocking around US emissaries visiting Islamabad. The purpose of their meeting is to solicit US help to topple Musharraf. I feel that Americans are interfering in our internal affairs , and we should discourage them. Pervez Musharraf sheds uniform or not its our internal problem. Americans should not bother about it. The so called democratic leaders have proved to be corrupt and inefficient. The nation gave them chance twice to rule the country , but they failed.

Myth of Press freedom in Pakistan
2007-06-17 21:50:00
President Musharraf accuses that print and electronic media are projecting a negative image of Pakistan . He says that media is not reporting the achievements of his country. There is not doubt he have gave freedom to electronic media and press. However , it is wrong to coerce press to report untrue picture of the situation. Unfortunately, the country is passing through a very difficult time and media should not be expected to paint a rosy picture of the things. The general should search his soul and correct his wrongdoings and take actions against his corrupt colleagues who are looting the country.

British police responsible for the death of Banaz Ahmed
2007-06-17 19:45:00
Banaz Ahmed was brutally murdered by her a father and uncle. The murderer hacked her into pieces and dumped her body in a suitcase in the suburbs of London. She could have been alive if the British police had taken action on her complaint. It is said that her father and uncle tried to kill her on New Year?s eve in 2006, but she managed to escape from their clutches. She went to local police for protection. However, police did not pay attention to her story and dismissed her complaint. An enquiry should be initiated against the police officers who refused to give her protection from her killers. I am also appalled the silence of Muslim Council of Britain, who jump to organize protest over petty issues and ignored this case.
