Iraq heading for Sunni-Shiite civil war

Egypt's Al Gumhuriya said Thursday that sectarian sedition was being re-ignited in Iraq with the second attack on the Shiite Golden Mosque in Samarra. The semi-official daily noted in its editorial that the first attack on the holy shrine last year had unleashed a wave of attacks and counterattacks by the Sunni s and Shiites that has left many people killed. "This by no means serves the steadfast nationalist resistance in the face of the occupation," it remarked. The mass-circulation paper suggested the US forces' high alert for its troops in Iraq and the government's curfew imposed on Baghdad following Wednesday's mosque bombing indicate that the "conspiracy of sedition is entering a more bloody stage that will turn the struggle against the American occupation into a civil war between the Sunnis and Shiites." Lebanon victimized by 'criminal terror plan'

Lebanon's Al Shark said in a commentary that Lebanon is passing through a very difficult stage as it is being targeted with terrorist attacks since the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri in February 2005. The daily, which describes itself as independent but with pro-government trends, added there seems to be no end to the "criminal terrorist plan" for the country and no limits to the blood that is being shed until Lebanese "bow and surrender, asking for forgiveness from their torturers." London-based Asharq Al Awsat described the Palestinian fighting between Fatah and Hamas supporters in Gaza as a "political obscenity" by both sides as the battles have even reached hospitals and war crimes are being committed. The Saudi-owned daily said Hamas is not, and will not be, a government because it is a religious trend ruled by ideology, not by politics. "Hamas did not come to lighten hope, but to declare jihad; but against whom? Against Fatah," it claimed in a commentary. Analysts say that US has asked Mush arraf to share power with the civilian government, which will be elected in the upcoming elections. Musharraf who earned the favour of his masters by launching a crack-down on Al-qaeda in the urban areas of Pakistan and Waziristan, has lost his credibility in the eyes of his masters. The western media has started to criticize him. They say he is losing domestic support and should be replaced. But the problem is that politicians will not be able to do things for Americans unless they get the support of powerful military. So they are asking Musharraf to share power, because they cannot afford a military coup in Pakistan.

US military aid to Pakistan restored

Reluctant US lawmakers restored $50 million in military aid to Pakistan on Tuesday to help it weather its current political turmoil as a bill to finance US foreign aid advanced in Congress. The bill now goes to the full House for passage, and the Senate will pass its own aid bill. Differences will have to be negotiated away before both chambers pass the final version. Democratic Rep Nita Lowey, chairwoman of the appropriations subcommittee that drafted the legislation, said she hopes President Pervez Musharraf ?allows the rule of law to prevail with regard to the suspended judge and allows full and fair elections to occur without delay.?

The deaths caused by US ground forces have generated anti-American feelings among Afghanis. Even people in Karzai government have angrily reacted to these deaths. Once again President Bush praised Musharraf for his performance on war on terror. He said Democracy is ?a lot more established? in Pakistan than in some other nations. Earlier, Mr Bush had criticized China, Russia and Middle Eastern countries for not bring democratic reforms in their countries. As a Karachiite I feel his rule I better than our so called democratic. I am living in peace an tranquility for the last seven years. However, some of his actions have attracted criticism from the people. He should take care of them.

The editor of a weekly newsletter, ?Special Report? has disappeared. According to his wife's statement , he had gone to drop his  son at his relatives home in Gulistan-i-Johar but did not return home since Wednesday afternoon.He had filed  a petition against the government and held Sindh Chief Minister  and other senior officials responsible for the May 12 violence that claimed 41 lives.In my opinion,  the government is gaining notoriety for being high-handed in its treatment of journalists.
