Imus Suspended. What About McGuirk?
2007-04-10 06:02:00 Imus has been suspended for two weeks because of his comments about the Rutgers University Women's Basketball team.AP Television Writer David Bauder wrote the following:"CBS Radio and MSNBC both said Monday they were suspending Don Imus' morning talk show for two weeks as a protest grew about his reference last week to members of the Rutgers women's basketball team as "nappy-headed hos." The suspension begins next Monday.MSNBC, which telecasts the radio show, said Imus' expressions of regret and embarrassment, coupled with his stated dedication to changing the show's discourse, made it believe suspension was the appropriate response."But what about producer Bernard McGuirk? So far, all the focus has been on Imus. Take note that only the SHOW has been suspended. There hasn't been any note of direct personal punishment towards Imus or McGuirk.McGuirk is just as guilty as Imus. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't McGuirk also contribute some comments of his own? And wasn't he l... More About: Imus
Protests Organized Against Imus & NBC
2007-04-09 06:01:00 I don't like Rev. Al Sharpton or Rev. Jesse Jackson very much, but I agree with them on this issue and wish them luck in their protests of NBC and Don Imus .I think it's safe to say that Imus' apology for his racist remarks against the Rutgers University women's basketball team has gone unaccepted.Somewhere we must draw the line in what is tolerable in mainstream media," Sharpton told reporters Sunday. "We cannot keep going through offending us and then apologizing and then acting like it never happened. Somewhere we've got to stop this."Imus is scheduled to appear on Sharpton's radio show Monday. Sharpton says his views on Imus have not changed and wants him fired regardless. While Sharpton is confronting Imus on-air and writing to the Federal Communications Commission of the issue, Rev. Jesse Jackson will be protesting outside the NBC offices in Chicago."If he has a right to use that platform to insult and degrade then we have a moral obligation to picket NBC and to protest," ... Improving 911 Call Tracking
2007-04-06 00:23:00 I'm actually in favor of something the FCC is doing. It makes sense and will help save lives. Well, I'm amazed! The FCC is looking to improve the accuracy of 911 call tracking. More people today are dialing 911 from cellular phones, rather than home phones (also known as landlines). Here are a couple of paragraphs from the AP article:Contrary to what is portrayed on television crime shows, the accuracy of the technology that guides rescuers to cell phone callers can range from a few yards to several miles, even though federal law requires providers to guarantee that their callers can be located in emergencies.Aiming to improve accuracy, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Kevin Martin told The Associated Press this week that he will propose significant changes in the 911 system."This is something we always want to be improving on," Martin said. "We have to make sure public safety doesn't lose because we don't take advantage of the changes in technology."One method being us... More About: King , Call , Track , Rack , Tracking
John Walker Lindh Wants Out!
2007-04-05 12:01:00 John Walk er Lindh, The American Taliban soldier captured in Afghanistan in November 2001, wants his 20-year prison sentence reduced. His plea comes after David Hicks, an Australian man who recently pleaded guilty to supporting terrorism and acknowledged aiding al-Qaida during the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan, was sentenced to only a 9-month prison term and is expected to be shipped back to Australia within the coming weeks. It doesn't make sense in print, does it? Hicks only received a 9-month prison term, where Lindh's is 20-years? Lindh's situation was more religious; Hicks' was to kill Americans!I'm not saying that Lindh should be released right away, but I think President Bush owes it to him to re-review the case and allow him another trial. Lindh is going to be released from prison one day, so we can't avoid him forever.I'll be following this story as it progresses (over time I'm sure.) When something happens, check back and I'll add my two cents. For the news article... More About: John , Want , Ants , Walker
Freedom! Horrible, Horrible Freedom!
2007-04-04 18:26:00 Iran's President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, announced that Iran will be freeing the captured British sailors today as an "Easter gift" to the British people. Here's what he had to say at the news conference:"On the occasion of the birthday of the great prophet (Muhammad) ... and for the occasion of the passing of Christ, I say the Islamic Republic government and the Iranian people ? with all powers and legal right to put the soldiers on trial ? forgave those 15," he said, referring to the Muslim prophet's birthday on March 30 and the Easter holiday This pardon is a gift to the British people."It's great that this situation ended peacefully. Though Ahmadinejad expressed public criticism of western values involving military and family, Tony Blair knew to keep his mouths shut. In return, peace was kept and nobody was harmed. Kind words were even exchanged between the sailors and Ahmadinejad.I can't help but doubt a peaceful ending would have occurred had Americans been captured instead... More About: Freedom , Reed
Suggested Reading: The Nostradamus Code
2007-04-04 11:04:00 I actually found this book by clicking one of the Google Ads above. It's called The Nostradamus Code : World War Three by Dr. Michael Rathford. Here's a short description from the website:Dr. Michael Rathford has studied the Quatrains of Nostradamus since 1975. He is the author of the best-selling book, The Nostradamus Code: World War III. By combining traditional analysis techniques with state of the art data mining algorithms, he is able to search the equivalent of the entire library of congress in less than ten minutes. With these tools, he was able to make the significant discoveries that resulted in the book The Nostradamus Code.Nostradamus has always interested me. The newest predictions involve "the next major terrorist attack on the U.S., a conflict between the U.S. and Iran, and the nuclear destruction of Rome," according to the website. You can purchase the book by clicking here. For more information on the book, and to actually read a chapter, click here. An Innocent Man Freed From Jail
2007-03-30 12:27:00 Could you imagine spending 11 years in prison for a crime you didn't commit? Antonio Beaver had the unpleasant experience...Beaver was arrested in 1996 and convicted of robbery in 1997. He was identified in what his lawyers called a "flawed" line-up. If that's not bad enough, his only hope of being found innocent was a DNA test that couldn't - at that time - provide conclusive results. However, in 2001, Beaver filed his own motion requesting a new DNA test. To his advantage, the DNA test found in his favor and he was released from prison on Thursday.Beaver was assisted by the Inno cence Project - an organization that assists in the uncovering of wrongful convictions - after the state filed motion to dismiss his request. Here's a paragraph from an article released by the Innocence Project:Without an attorney, Beaver began seeking DNA testing on the blood in the car in November 2001. The state filed a motion to dismiss Beaver?s request in 2003. The Innocence Project took the case in... More About: Innocent , Reed , Jail

Parents On Pizza Boxes
2007-03-26 22:34:00 What's worse: Owing child support or seeing your face on a pizza box for not paying child support? You decide...There are some pizza parlors in Cincinnati, Ohio working with the Butler County Child Enforcement Agency in trying to expose, and even prosecute, parents who have not been paying their child support by putting "deadbeat parent mug shots" on pizza boxes.Since putting faces on pizza boxes in August, only one arrest has been made which leads to the question is this really effective or is it simply humiliating people?Although most people joke about the faces, others take it more seriously."It's just a way of shaming people," said Maury Beaulier, an attorney who focuses on fathers' rights cases. Beaulier called the pizza boxes "horrible" and seems to be one of few who is actually concerned about the social issues some children will face when their parent's mug shot becomes the center of attention. He also commented that certain unfortunate circumstances sometimes prevent a ... More About: Pizza , Parents , Rent , Parent , Pare
VIDEO: Bushisms
2007-03-26 05:11:00 I promised you Bushisms and here they are, but in a different style than I'm use to posting. I figured this would be a lot better than just writing them up and posting them. Some people don't believe that the president has said such stupid things. Well, here's your proof: More About: Video
What's In A McDonald's McNugget?
2007-03-23 22:47:00 It's Friday and I'm not in the mood to be too serious, so this post felt right.Al Nye The Lawyer Guy wrote a review for The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan. In this book, he exposes to the masses what is actually in a McDonald 's Chicken McNugget. (Yes, the McNugget actually has it's own Wikipedia page.)I'm not going to post here what the most shocking and surprising ingredient is. I don't want to spoil the McNugget for those who don't want to know. But I will say that I was shocked when I found out!To read about the in ingredients, click here. The most shocking one is in bold.
Suggested Reading (No Child Left Behind)
2007-03-21 19:51:00 Since my post on the No Child Left Behind law, I've received a few e-mails. One was from a publicist at the University of Michigan Press. She suggested I read No Child Left Behind and the Public Schools.According to the descriptions, author Scott Franklin Abernathy writes of the success and failures within the NCLB program. Additionally, he seeks the answer to the unasked question, "can we ever really know if a child's education is good?"I haven't had a chance to read this book yet, but I hope to in the near future. If anyone has any critiques on this publication, feel free to e-mail me, or leave some comments to this post.To order, or read some critiques on the book, click here. More About: Reading
Bush Wants More Time
2007-03-19 18:33:00 Just a couple of days ago, President Bush was playing tough guy (resembling that of a third grade bully) by saying he'd simply veto anything the Dem's threw his way. Now, just a couple of days later, he is at a point where he is basically begging the Democrats for more time before ending the war in Iraq. More Time !? Is this guy serious!?The Iraqi war is now going on its fifth year. There still isn't, after five years, any real plan of winning. But, he wants more time?3,200 soldiers have died. A majority of them, like most Americans, don't understand the actual reasons for even fighting, let alone sending more troops over. But, he wants more time, and more troops? The Iraqi war started on lies. The most famous was that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction (WMD's) and we needed to take him out as soon as possible (ASAP)! It turned out that Hussein didn't have the weapons we thought he did and now Bush needs more time to find reasons to stay in Iraq?He was re-elected to ... More About: Want , Ants
More Flying Ice... Where's Boscola?
More articles from this author:2007-03-19 18:04:00 A horrible accident occurred in my area Saturday when a chunk of ice flew off the top of a truck and crashed through the windshield of the car it was passing. Thankfully, nobody died. The worst injury was that of the passenger who suffered a broken nose.I made a couple of posts not too long ago about how dangerous it is to not clean off your vehicle, and how the law should be changed.Pennsylvania State Senator Lisa Boscola is opting to change the law, hoping it will allow for more harsher fines. This is where I get angry...The subject of "flying ice" is something that she has been very angry about both recently and in the past. Now another serious accident happens and makes for a great opportunity for her to promote her new proposed legislation. But does she? Nope! The Morning Call reported that Boscola couldn't even be reached for comment. I've never liked her as a political figure, but sadly and as much as it pains me to say it, she is the best we have. I hope in the future she t... More About: Flying , Cola , Lying , Here , More 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 |
