Exclusive Some how ;)
2008-04-19 21:21:00
Well it is not that exclusive , but I think it is exclusive in the Egyptian blogsphere and media , it is not a big thing but for me ,for the nostalgia condition I am living in "I do not know but since all what is happening in Egypt currently I became more and more attached to the past". I was lucky enough thanks to my Royal Photos collection Flickr to be contacted by Mr.Ellis from the UK , Mr.Ellis is the nephew of Miss Nance Ellis who was appointed by King Fouad to become the nanny of Princess Faiza . Mrs. Nance came to Egypt in 1914 to work in the Abthia hospital as a tutor for Midwives and Nurses "May be it is our infamous Abthia hospital may be another hospital in the area there" . Her relation with the Palace started when she attended the birth of the princesses then she appointed to be the nanny of Princess Faiza and her tutor , along with the other younger princesses. Miss Ellis survived the decision of dismissal of Queen Nazli to dismiss all those hired...

False alert or real one ??
2008-04-18 20:02:00
I remember when my mom saw his photo on my PC , she asked me "Was not that Saddam's Son in law who betrayed him , ran away to Jordan and Saddam killed him ?? " I told her "No , this guy is the brother in law of Basher Al Assad ; Assef Shawqat , the head of the Military intelligence in Syria " Mama Said "oh; OK but he looked so similar like him !! " I remember this short conservation when the news came about this dangerous rumour saying the following : Assef Shawqat was arrested in Damascus and detained in some secret place after knowing his plans to lead a coup against his brothers in law Bashar and Maher backed up by the United States and Saudi Arabia ; and that his wife Bashar's eldest sister Dr.Bushra ran away with her kids from Syria , some said to Paris and some said to Gulf State. It did not stop at here but it goes on : The Coup plot was discovered by the Iranian intelligence and they informed their man Emad Mughniyeh about it .Emad...

We,the People of Damitta "Part 2"
2008-04-17 18:57:00
The people of Damitta are continuing to impress me , I do not know why the media does not give them enough attention , what they are doing never has been done in Egypt before publicly in that civilized way. Their rejection to have a chemical factory in their beautiful resort town Ras El-Bar. Check back the background of this story here. Now here are the developments and updates concerning this case: The professors of Cairo University denied that they issued a research in the favour of the factory that it does not have any effect on the environment; the professors from Cairo University, Helwan University and Ain Shams University all agreed that the factory should not have been built in this place and should be closed immediately in order to save the environment. The people of Helwan sent another statement to President Mubarak to declare its public refusal after their first statement last week ; the Statement is called Statement No.2 Agrium fertilizers ; the owner of t...

Where is Israa ??
2008-04-17 18:40:00
Where is Israa Abdel Fatah ?? She  suddenly disappeared. The General attorney signed her release order and she should have been in her home with her family from three days ago , but until this moment no one knows where she is currently. She should be released in the Kasr El-Nil police station but her family did not find her there , a journalist from Al Dostor had a 1 minute interview with her during her transfer from the court and she told him that she was going to the State security at Benha in Qalyubia , the journalist told her family but but they could not find her at all in Qalyubia. Her mother spoke to 10 PM news night talk-show live and she was so afraid , she cried and told Mona Al Shazely that the last time she had seen her daughter Israa ,the girl was so terrified. It is not in the sake of the security boards to start playing these games. Technorati Tags: Israa Abd El-Fatah,Egypt ,Women ,National ,Democracy ,E gyptians,Mideast,Middle East,Africa
Follow Up : The Mahalla thugs.
2008-04-16 21:43:00
I want to clarify something , it is my duty to do it ,it is about the Mahalla clashes of last week. Some people think that thugs that destroyed and stole the city were pushed by the activists and the MB ; this is regime media nonsense and I may use even other words to describe it but I am trying to keep this blog as clean as possible !! Those thugs who destroyed shops and schools and stole the Gold shops and the computers from the Schools were the thugs of the NDP used in the elections season , based on many testimonies from the locals to the journalists who broke in to the security siege and visited the city . These guys came in trucks when the clashes started between the locals and the police to make things worse. From another side it turned out that the anti-riots forces used living bolts that caused the death of the civilians in the clashes instead of the legal warning bolts that should be used in the riot cases. Obama SR is back under the spotlight
2008-04-16 20:53:00
Obama SR. is back in the America n scene again creating more buzz for his son ; it is not about his religion this time, but about his political views , oh yes the conservative republicans are questioning the political views of Barack SR. from 43 years ago who already divorced his American wife then and did not see his son except several times in his life !! The anti-Barack Obama team is using an article written by Barack SR. in his home country Kenya from 43 years ago , a forgotten article that even Barack JR did not mention in his biography about him and his fathers "Dreams from My father" . Politico.com published a very interesting report about the article debunking all the myths saying that Obama ,the father was communist defending socialism "and what if he was a socialist !!" Obama SR. wrote this article in the East Africa journal in 1965 , he was criticising as far as I understood the policies of the Kenyan President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta especially his ec...

I like Jimmy Carter
2008-04-16 20:09:00
Seriously I love this man more and more. This man seems from the few people who know the true meaning of Peace Negotiations , the true meaning of Peace negotiations in my humble point of view is to sit down with everyone involved in the fight or the conflict even those bloody ones and to listen to them in order to reach to point of agreement. I really respected him for his daring decision to have a direct channel with Hamas and Syria as primary parties in the conflict of the middle east regardless of what is said , regardless of what the America n , Israel i and Egyptian Media are saying , this is what it should be for the sake of everyone in the Middle East if we truly want a just unbiased Peace. I know very well that Carter has no power at all and currently he is just an American citizen who turns to be the ex-President of the United States once upon time "The American Ambassador in Cairo Downy said that Carter got no official character and he was just an American Citizen&quo...

It is not fair :(
2008-04-15 20:07:00
At last the military illegal court said its illegal word about the infamous civilian MB case and I wish it did not say that word , because that word is insult for justice and integrity this court is representing , of course I forgot to say that this court that does not follow the judicial authority but the administrative authority , it follows the President :( You must know that all the civilian courts proved the innocence of that men The verdict came as follows : 7 years in jail for both Khairat Al Shater and Hassan Malak. "for what ?? " 7 members tried in absentia got the maximum penalty 10 years in jail The rest of the detainees got sentences between 18 months and five years !!! These men were arrested in 2006 and 2007 There is no appeal I think in the military court  and even if there is one we should not put our hopes on !! The regime is trying to weaken the financial powers of the MB by putting Al Shater and Malak in jail "both are we...

What do you blame the MB for today ??
2008-04-15 18:58:00
Seriously I can't believe how those who write in the official newspapers think  ; the MB group was crystal clear when they announced that they were not going to participate in the Strike of 6 April and that their members were not going to participate in the protests all over in Egypt and it was obvious in the Universities that they were honest regardless of what we think about them. Now the regime and his men in the media are blaming the MB for the Strike claiming that the Strike and the uprising in Mahalla were planned by the banned MB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First of all the workers of Mahalla were clear when they said that they were not following any force or group in Egypt , so from where came this stupid allegation !!?? The return of the fearful secret communist party !!!?? I do not know if I should put this in separate post or not but I think I should post it here too after all it is related to the main theme here. Do You remember last year when Dr. Mahmoud Amin Alam...

Israa
2008-04-14 21:24:00
Israa Abdel Fatah , a 27 years old Egypt ian young lady whose name entered the  history of modern Egypt as the main organizer of the first facebook general strike in Egypt. This young lady launched a simple invitation in the face book thousands responded too and millions for two weeks spoke about. Yes the strike was the brainchild of the Mahalla workers still this pretty young lady made sure that the strike idea reach to millions all over the world . Israa is a member in the Gad party , she was not that politically active and was more concerned with the cultural and educational issues. Israa who was not known to the regime and its security boards before became an icon for my generation and she should  be , this young lady is an inspiration to all of us especially the women , I am very proud of her. She is a great example of Laila , she is the Laila of 2008 Unfortunately Israa is now for jail for the first time in her life, the security arrested her from a coffee shop ne...

A City where you can't hear yourself
2008-04-14 20:44:00
A very interesting report in the New York Times by Michael Slackman . The city he was talking about was not any city except my beloved beautiful  Cairo , oh oh Cairo , Noisy Cairo. "Thanks Jim for link" Seriously this city is driving me sick from the noise and the pollution. I was not surprised to know that the noise that was measured in the Tahriri Square and Al Ahram Street was equal to 95 decibel "well they forgot Mohendessin and the Shooting Club street too !!" Look I love Giza and Cairo ; I do not imagine that I live in city other than them but sometimes when I go to 6 October city or New Cairo I feel that I need this quiet clean relaxing atmosphere !! Even when I go to the North Coast or the cities of the Red Sea Coast I feel that I can transfer my life there if I have the option. I will not speak about the far golden past when the streets of Cairo were clean , the people were polite and the trees were everywhere , it is obvious why it became like...

We ; the People of Damietta ..
2008-04-13 17:43:00
We ;the people of Damietta ; announce our total refusal of having the Chemical factory in our land as it endangers our environment in the Governate and so we are offering to buy the land on which the factory is built on by a price twice higher than the original estimated price of the land.  Ladies and gentlemen; this is a summary for the petition and the offer presented by a delegation from the people of Damietta to the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Hosni Mubarak yesterday . The petition was delivered to his office personally by a delegation from the locals for the first time in history in Egypt. The story goes like this : "I knew it from one of the locals of Damietta" The Government wanted to build a chemical factory some where near the sea "I do not know why ; may be it is Petro-Chemical one" ; the factory was rejected in Alexandria and Port Said due to its dangers on the environment , it will destroy the marine life and pollute the ...

What happened last week
2008-04-11 12:49:00
These things I forgot to cover in my blog last week thanks to the strike and Mahalla events, I did not imagine things would take this turn. A 19 years old Mohammed from Bahaira died from Bird Flu H5N1 to become the 21 victim I think who died from this virus, it is interesting that he is a young man not a child nor a woman, he was transferred to Alexandria to receive treatment, he was given Tamflu but it was either too late or the virus formed a resistance against it. The Very few newspapers talked about it first then forgot about it thanks to the events of the week and yesterday independent MP Gamal Zahran requested an inquiry about it : The visit of Gamal Mubarak to the Special Operation Forces Exhibition and Conference "SOFEX" in Jordan on the 1st of April 2008 The visit could have been a secret one; unfortunately the AFP took some shots for GM with Prince Faisal of Jordan "He changed so much, he used to be more handsome than this" May I ask...

Where is the international community from the Mahalla incidents !!??
2008-04-10 21:24:00
Where is the United States administration from what happened in Egypt this week ?? Where is the EU ?? Where is the international community ?? What happened in Mahalla and in Egypt from strike and protests of people who did nothing except expressing their anger and refusal for terrible economic situation is not usual thing !! Or is the current United States administration only comments when it wants something from Mubarak and he refuses to give it or do it for them !!?? I am sorry but the current United States administration should not come and preach us about democracy ,freedom and the rights of minorities whenever it likes when it ignores something like this !! This shows us something that we should not depend on outside , we should depend on ourselves inside. By the way I heard  that the Egyptian Community in the Sultana of Oman planned to have a protest in front of the Egyptian embassy there , I do not know if this true or false but if it is true then I must thank...

What a conciedence !!??
2008-04-09 21:25:00
5 years have passed since the Invasion of Iraq , the fall of Saddam dictatorship regime and the beginning of the Chaos in the Euphrates country ; and if you remember from the famous scenes in the fall of Baghdad that captured our attention and also our imagination are the scenes of the torn paintings and posters of Saddam beside his endless destroyed statues "The Famous Farados square scene which I saw it live on TV" The Iraqi people went out destroying all the posters and statues of Saddam and as I recall one of the most famous scenes was the scene of the man who was standing in front of one Saddam's palaces  in Baghdad holding a big poster for Saddam "who at that time suddenly disappeared from the surface of the earth" crying and hitting the poster with his slipper in a violent way screaming "Look what he had done to Iraq !! What he had done to Iraq". Here I will not speak about Iraq nor the unfortunate anniversary but I will speak abou...

More about Mahalla
2008-04-09 10:33:00
The government is trying to calm things down there , of course the visit of the Ahmed Nazif is just the beginning , now the municipal councils in the city for the first time include members from other parties like Al Wafd and the democratic front !!!??? Anyhow I have known a very disturbing information from the local Mahalla blogs that the police has released three detained Children, the youngest one of them is 8 years old !! yes 8 years old who was beaten the police station !! If I am not mistaken the Motherhood and Childhood Council headed by the first lady made a draft for a law against beating Children in that age !!?? By the way the Police refuse to let the funeral ceremonies of the 15 years old Mohammed to be held for fear of the public anger !! "wise asses !!" It is reported that there are about 2000 anti riots forces soldiers in the city and the tension is still there. Here are some photos from American Journalist James Beck from yesterday and the day befor...

Oh Mahalla Sweet Mahalla
2008-04-08 21:28:00
Oh I just knew that our smart Prime minister left his smart village and made a quick visit to Mahalla along with couple of ministers from his smart cabinet to see what the people are complaining from and also to bring some good news with him to the loyal citizens in the grand Mahalla , the citadel of textile industry in Egypt . There is a raise he brought with him to all the hard workers and employees in these big factories There is L.E 300 Million or something injected to the capital of the textile company There are couple of millions of pounds injected in the health and the education sectors Ah and the anti-Riot soldiers now are distributing bread  to the houses , a home delivery with the compliments of the interior ministry !! I do not know ;do all the other parts in Egypt should be angry like Mahalla so the Prime minister would visit them !!?? All the MB moves
2008-04-08 20:26:00
One of the things I do not like in the MB and I think it is one of the things that made the group controversial till now is their sudden unexpected decisions. Suddenly the MB before the strike with one day announced that they are not going to participate ; yes many expected this especially with their late respond still it was a shock to many people that one of the biggest and oldest opposition group refuses such strike despite all what it suffers from the regime. Of course the MB group has another calculations than other groups , some are saying that they made an agreement with the regime not to share in the strike thanks to the regime praises for the first time in TV "They praised the banned group in the TV", still their announcement to boycott the municipal elections in Big Ads in big words in Al Dostor yesterday made me think otherwise. I think also  the MB group did not join the strike because they feared it would not work and that they would take all the bl...

Mark your calendar : 4th of May Strike
2008-04-08 12:51:00
There is a new strike in the way on the next 4th of May , again using the same techniques of the previous 6 April strike : The Face book. The 4th May is a special day by the way , it is the birthday of President Mubarak.I think if it works , it will do something , because the 6 April strike drove the regime crazyThese are what we supposed to do on that dayWe do not buy a meat for a whole weekThere will be protests on the 4th of May , the locations are still unknown for fear the security knows about it from the facebook and cracks it as usual "at last they think right"The gathering point before the protests will be in the Mosques and Churches breaking the law that prevent any protest or political activity inside religious Holy Places "If I may suggest let the Cairo protesters instead of gather down Town ,they gather at Sidin Al Hussein and El-Sidia Zeinab because the anti riots forces soldiers from country sider and upper Egypt fear them We give a rose to every an anti forces soldier ...

Mahalla is still on fire and the clashes still go on and on
2008-04-08 12:10:00
First of all it seems that the regime had a dirty hand in the clashes because those who destroyed and stole the properties of other people from cars and shops were known to the people of Mahalla as the thugs the police uses in the elections !! The Mahalla local blogs are saying these guys are well known to every one and that it was an attempt to sabotage the protests and the strike of the people there but unfortunately it went out of the hands of the regime and the people !!Second the clashes are continuing ,already I found that the Mahalla local blogs are speaking about a new death , the death of the 15 years Mohammed Ahmed El Sayed yesterday in his home , young Ahmed was killed in his balcony by a warning shot from the security at 10 PM Mahalla Local time , he was transferred to the Mahalla's main morgue.Third the clashes for the third day restarted and I have just known from one minute there are three people killed today !!!!? "confirmation please"Fourth today is the municipal e...

The Mahalla saga continues
2008-04-07 22:29:00
I think if we are going to have a democratic regime one day then we must make the 6th of April as the National day of Mahalla in the same way we have the 31st of March as the National day of Giza marking the resistance of the people of Giza against the British occupation in the revolution of 1919 Things did not stop at what happened yesterday , things are getting out of control thanks to the police behaviour , the police is using its violent mentally with the civilians treating them as just farmers and workers with no rights what so ever. The clashes between the Police forces and the people started at about 4 PM Cairo Local time , in the morning the interior ministry announced that they arrested about 200 from Mahalla ,from what they called the Vandals !! Those vandals were in fact the locals , their families went with food and supplies to their relatives and sons detained in the main police station , the police refused let to them in ,sooner it turned in to clashes again and ag...

The media coverage of yesterday ; the Masquarde is over
2008-04-07 20:57:00
I swear that we are still living in the 1960s and there is no big difference between the Nasserite era and this nameless era ,the current regime is keeping and reviving with honour the dishonoured heritage of their Nasserite ancestors from controlling the media and twisting the truth. Yesterday the only people who were honest enough took to deliver the truth of what had happened on that day were the bloggers , the foreign correspondents and very very few journalists I think they could be counted on hands. The regime used its powers to scare all journalists in most of the newspapers whether official or not official that they did not write a single word of truth yesterday. I read today most of the Egypt ian daily newspapers and I was shocked and sad ,some of these newspapers are famous ,some of them published by parties and some of them is thought to believed liberal in one day Here is a quick sample : Al Wafd newspaper published by Al Wafd party which did not ...

Mahla on fire
2008-04-06 22:13:00
The great Mahla is on fire currently , all the road to the greatest city in the middle East for the textile industries are blocked and closed even the trains going there are shifted to other cities in North Delta. Mahla great workers were the brain behind the strike of today despite the fact that the regime cracked down the strike that was planned to take place in the factories in the morning , still it did not prevent the people from having their own strike. Ironically the regime thought that by arresting the activists of Kafiya and other political forces things will be calm in the industrial city , well as usual the regime is fooling itself , it is not the activists whom motivate the people to express their anger and refusal for the inhuman conditions they live in. People since afternoon started protests in the big squares in the city , sooner the protests developed in to clashes between the people and the security forces. We began to receive news at about 6 PM that Mahla on ...

First of all I have known from my twitter sources that things are pretty ugly in Mahla , the protests were violent , the security cracked it down violently and some were injured ; there are some news saying that two persons were killed ; no confirmation yet but I think if this true than these guys are the official martyr of the 6 of April 2008 "Oh My God I have just known one of them is nine years old kid , oh my God" Second according to Hisham Mubarak centre the number of the detained reached about 200 and may be more. Second I got many photos wonderful photos from my friend Juplia and my wonderful new friend X Hacker X Hacker went to the early morning and when he returned back about 3 PM he took as careful as he could couple of photos showing the Security presence , the empty streets , people these streets in that time can't be empty ,but the photos you can see them empty, the police tried to stop but he was a lucky X Hacker to get from them quickly Also my dear...
