Obama on the Brink of Official Victory
2008-06-02 05:58:00 Sen. Barack Obama gives a speech in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Photo by Flickr Just days away from the final contests in the Democratic primary, Barack Obama is only 50 delegates away from victory, according to Real Clear Politics estimates. Obama is projected to pick up 17 more delegates from South Dakota and Montana on Tuesday. Obama will need just 33 superdelegates to put him over the 2118 mark, giving him the delegates he needs to be the Democratic nominee according to party rules. Hillary Clinton won a decisive victory on Sunday in Puerto Rico. Clinton received 68 percent of the vote while Obama got 32 percent. Clinton had a net delegate gain from Puerto Rico of at least 22. Real Clear Politics on Sunday night put Obama?s new delegate lead at 154 when including pledged and superdelegates. Montana and South Dakota will likely cost Senator Clinton a couple of delegates and with those states being the final two contests in the race, she is left with ve... More About: Victory , Official
McCain Takes Flip-Flopping and Pandering to New Level
2008-05-30 05:14:00 John McCain lost his ?maverick? status within the Republican senate a long time ago but on Thursday he removed all doubt. John McCain had been a strong advocate for reducing carbon emissions and has said he would make it an important part of his administration. Senator John Warner (R-Virginia) and Senator Joseph Lieberman (I-Connecticut) have sent a bill to the senate that would mandate reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. John McCain initially supported the legislation but is now saying that he opposes the bill and will not be there to vote on it. According to the Huffington Post , only three weeks ago John McCain said about the bill ?I hope it will pass.? John McCain was voted the most absent member of the senate in 2008 and this pattern continues with him missing a critical vote on global warming. When McCain did bother to show up and vote he voted with Bush 100 percent of the time in 2008. McCain?s would be vote on this bill is no different. Bush a... More About: George W
McCain?s Morphing into Bush Continues
2008-05-29 08:56:00 McMore of the same is offering even more of the same Bush positions as he set forth his policy proposals on nuclear weapons. After the Congressional Quarterly announced that McCain has voted with Bush 100 percent of the time in 2008, McCain shows his similarities again by taking the same positions on nuclear weapons as President Bush. John McCain and President Bush both favor extending talks with Russia to reach an arms control deal. McCain and Bush both want to open talks with China on nuclear weapons and stop the spread of the weapons technology. The one and only place where Bush and McCain differ, is that McCain dares to dream of seeing nuclear weapons eliminated. President Bush?s administration took nuclear arms to be an important issue to look into when first taking office in 2001. McCain also suggested that nuclear arms issues would be a top priority of his upon taking office. McCain maybe trying to walk a tight rope around how close he is to ... More About: Iraq , Iran
McMore of the Same Votes 100% with Bush in 2008
2008-05-28 06:27:00 When John McCain started preparing himself to run for president in 2008, he knew his votes in the senate would be very important. According to the Congressional Quarterly, when John McCain bothered to show up to vote in the senate, he voted with President Bush 100 percent of the time. CQ determines which pieces of legislation fit with the president?s goals and other literature to determine where the president would stand on the bill. John McCain was voted the most absent senator in 2008, but when he did bother to show up, he voted with the president 100 percent. Granted McCain was campaigning during 2008, but there were many other senators also campaigning for president. Barack Obama , Hillary Clinton , Joseph Biden, and Christopher Dodd were all serving in the senate while running for president but did not miss as many votes as McCain did. Saturday Night Live Skit Puts Obama and Clinton Side by Side
2008-05-23 08:22:00 There can only be one. They both have their eye on the prize, the Democratic nomination, and eventually, the White House . In a hilarious skit placing Obama?s character and Clinton?s character side by side, they say what you know they are thinking. Clinton ?points out? that Iowa shouldn?t count as much because it was a caucus state. Obama ?says? any Democrat would carry California , a state he lost to Clinton. Obama calls the backbone of the party the youth and Clinton says it is hard working white people. The clip ends with both candidates saying what we can all stand behind, Obama says that it is democracy, and Clinton says it is that she deserves this. McCain Takes 3 Months and a Hitler Reference to Reject Hagee Endorsement
2008-05-23 07:28:00 Photo by Flickr 3 months and a Hitler comment later, John McCain has finally rejected the endorsement of Pastor John Hagee. On Thursday, McCain rejected the endorsements of two influential pastors, John Hagee and Rod Parsley for offensive comments that they have made. McCain accepted the endorsement of Hagee in late February, nearly four months ago, and received slight pressure from the press about the endorsement. Hagee?s and McCain never received major attention by the press in the way that Obama and Jeremiah Wright did. Over the past week McCain was no longer able to brush the issue aside when comments Hagee made about Hitler surfaced. The Huffington Post published audio of Hagee saying that Hitler hastened God?s will to bring the Jewish people to the promise land in Israel . Hagee had previously sparked controversy for McCain in which he said that the Catholic church was ?the great whore? and that New Orleans was suffering God?s wrath for their wicke... Obama is 75 Delegates Away from Nomination, Clinton Suggests Convention Fig
2008-05-22 05:54:00 After Tuesday?s contests in Oregon and Kentucky, Barack Obama is now within 75 delegates of clinching the Democratic nomination. On Wednesday, Senator Clinton told the Associated Press that she was willing to take her fight to the Democratic National Convention to get Michigan and Florida delegates seated. When Senator Clinton was asked if she would support the two states if they appealed an unfavorable ruling by the committee?s decision on the convention floor she replied, ?Yes I will. I will, because I feel very strongly about this.? ?I will consult with Floridians and the voters in Michigan because it's really their voices that are being ignored and their votes that are being discounted, and I'll support whatever the elected officials and the voters in those two states want to do.? Senator Obama?s campaign has been reaching out to Michigan and Florida and his campaign has said that they are willing to compromise with the Clinton campaign on how to seat those delegate... Obama Responds to Bush?s Attacks on Foreign Policy
2008-05-17 06:22:00 Senator Barack Obama wasted no time responding to Bush ?s attacks on his foreign policy positions. On Thursday, President Bush spoke before the Israeli Parliament and stopped just short of mentioning Obama by name in saying that those who negotiate with terrorists are appeasers. ?Some seem to believe that we should negotiate with the terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before,? Bush said. Bush went on to say, ?As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: ?Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided.? We have an obligation to call this what it is ? the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.? President Bush also does not understand the difference between appeasement and talking to your enemies. As Chris Matthews so aptly pointed out to talk show host Kevi... McCain Tries Outdated Scare Tactics
2008-05-16 06:47:00 On Thursday, John McCain bought into the standard Republican national security scare tactic. This signals a new low for McCain which lowers the bar further in what was supposed to be a ?respectful campaign? from the ?straight talk express?. ?All I can say is: If Senator Obama wants to sit down across the table from the leader of a country that calls Israel a stinking corpse, and comes to New York and says they're gonna, quote, ?wipe Israel off the map,? what is it that he wants to talk about? What is it that he wants to talk about with him?? If it was John McCain he would likely tell them to cut out the ?B.S.? According to the Huffington Post, McCain said in 2006, "One of the things I would do if I were President would be to sit the Shiites and the Sunnis down and say, 'Stop the b*&ls*i^.'" We all know that this is not the type of foreign policy that McCain would pursue towards Iran . While on the campaign trail McCain was so enthused about the idea of bombing ... (Photo from BarackObama.com)In the midst of what has been a contentious Democratic campaign Barack Obama made his first campaign trip to a state that has been in the midst of its own contentious election battle. On Wednesday, Obama gave a rally at Van Andel Arena in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Obama did not campaign in Michigan before the Michigan primary because he agreed not to in accordance with the Democratic National Committee. Michigan was stripped of their delegates as a consequence of moving their primary before February 5th. Obama told the crowd that he felt guilty about not campaigning in Michigan and wanted his trip back to try and make up for that. In exchange, Obama introduced a heavy hitter in the Democratic Party, John Edwards. As an attendant of the event myself, I was also shocked to see who the surprise guest was. According to Hitwise, a unit of measuring site traffic for all candidates, Barack Obama gets 44 percent of the hits, Hillary Clinton 43 percent, John McCain 8 percent and Ron Paul 5 percent. Obama Picks Experienced Strategists, Clinton Picks Loyalists
2008-05-09 06:33:00 Today we learned another important piece to the Mark Penn saga. According to the Huffington Post, Penn believed the Democratic race to be winner take all states just as it is for the Republican Party. Mark Penn was the chief strategist for Senator Clinton in the early stages of the game. Penn was ?confident? in saying that winning California would tip the race to Clinton once she captured the state?s entire 370 delegates. The major flaw to that strategy is the fact that the delegates are apportioned based on percentage of the vote each candidate got in that state. Harold Ickes was appalled at the sheer ignorance of someone in charge of such an important task. The reason Penn had such an important job on the campaign was not because he knew what he was doing, it was because of loyalty. Loyalty is something that Senator Clinton values as part of her team rather than hiring the best possible person for the job. ?How can it possibly be, that the much vaunted ch... Indiana Now ?Too Close To Call? As Gap Narrows
2008-05-07 03:23:00 Early after the polls had closed tonight in Indiana , the race looked like it would go to Senator Clinton but it was too early to call. As more and more precincts have reported their results the race has now become ?too close to call?. What was once a 14 point lead early on in the night has now become a 6 point lead for Senator Clinton. Barack Obama has narrowed the gap by picking up votes in his demographic strongholds. With 69 percent of the precincts reporting in Indiana, MSNBC and other networks have decided that the race is still too close to call. North Carolina was called for Barack Obama shortly after the polls had closed in that state because of the exit polls and early returns showing a wide margin of victory for Obama. Clinton still has some of her own stronghold areas of Indiana that need to be heard from but Obama is still waiting to hear from his strongest areas. We might have to wait the rest of the night to find out how narrow the gap is in In... More About: Hillary Clinton , Polls , Close
Obama Wins North Carolina by Wide Margins, Clinton Leads in Indiana
2008-05-07 02:18:00 Shortly after polls have closed in Indiana and North Carolina , it is clear that Barack Obama has won the North Carolina Democratic primary. Senator Clinton is leading the way in early returns in Indiana by as much as 14 percent. MSNBC is projecting that if Obama gets 57 percent of the vote in North Carolina it will completely negate Clinton?s gains from the Pennsylvania primary at the end of April. On Saturday, Obama was able to pull out a victory in Guam but both candidates came away with the same number of delegates. When looking at the counties that have reported their votes in Indiana, those areas heavily favor Hillary Clinton ?s demographic. However, Clinton?s lead in the vote is large in the early stages and Obama would need to make up large numbers in his areas of the state. Obama is currently trouncing Clinton in North Carolina in early returns and it is a state where Obama can make more delegate gains on Clinton. North Carolina is also not a small stat... Ron Paul Favors Barack Obama on Foreign Policy
2008-05-05 08:32:00 Ron Paul has yet to endorse John McCain for the Republican nomination but over the weekend gave his input on the candidates. Paul was a Republican candidate for president and stayed in the race until John McCain had the number of delegates he needed to seal up the nomination. Paul was asked during debates if he would endorse the Republican candidate no matter who it was. Paul declined to do so on every opportunity. Ron Paul favors Barack Obama ?s foreign policy, ?But that doesn?t mean that?s an endorsement,? Paul quickly added. Obama?s foreign policy of opening relations with countries that the Bush administration has been ?punishing? by cutting ties with is a large aspect of Obama?s popularity. Obama wants to end the war in Iraq and bring our troops home. Obama was also against the war in Iraq before it started. Obama favors opening talks with Iran to exhaust all diplomatic solutions to their desire to gain nuclear weapons. McCain has suggested tha... More About: President Bush , Ron Paul
Wright Back in the News, But What About McCain and Pastor Hagee?
2008-05-01 08:44:00 Jeremiah Wright , Barack Obama?s pastor is sparking controversy yet again with his speeches. Obama spoke again on Tuesday to denounce the recent comments he has made and Obama has made it clear that he does not agree with the positions that Wright has taken. Wright spoke before the National Press Club on Monday in an effort to defend himself after Obama denounced the first remarks that were made famous on the internet and cable news networks. Comments that were made by Wright at the National Press Club forced Obama to take an even more aggressive stance in his opposition to the extreme comments made by the pastor. The Wright controversy has captivated the 24 hour cable news channels and other media news outlets. The media has not slowed down their coverage of the controversy since Obama denounced the recent comments. Obama Defends His Up Bringing and His Bowling Record
2008-04-28 08:08:00 Barack Obama came under harsh criticism for his comments about small town Pennsylvanians and many labeled him as an elitist.. While taking questions at a press conference over the weekend, Barack Obama made fun of the media’s coverage of himself. A reporter asked him about his growing “image problem” among some voters and pundits. The reporter referred to Obama’s image as the GQ cover man, someone who is “aloof”, or someone who cannot relate to working class folks. Obama referenced his wardrobe both, past and present, to show that he is not this “GQ” man that some believe he is. Obama said that when he met his wife Michelle he had only one suit. Obama went on to explain that he tends to buy 5 suits to wear at a time and patches them up because he wears them repeatedly. When it comes to haircuts he does get them more often now and it is at his mother-in-law’s request. Obama also took time to explain his bowling skills. “I know that there... When Will it End…? Are Some Democrats Getting Tired and Bitter?
2008-04-25 08:03:00 Democrats in Iowa first started caucusing on January 3rd and after nearly 5 months of elections the race is still not over. How many times have we heard pundits argue that the race would be over after super Tuesday, mini-super Tuesday, or Pennsylvania? Barack Obama spoke in Springfield, Illinois on February 10, 2007 to officially announce his candidacy for president. Hillary Clinton gave her living room “I’m in” speech on January 22, 2007. Nearly a year and a half after this race began, Democrats are becoming agitated and worried. Howard Dean, chairman of the Democratic National Committee, appeared on CNN with Wolf Blitzer and told the remaining undecided superdelegates to make up their mind “starting now”. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid are working hard to prevent what would easily be described as a meltdown in the works. Clinton Needs Massive Victory Tuesday, Narrow Victory is a Loss
2008-04-22 08:50:00 After 7 weeks of campaigning in Pennsylvania , and more than one year after the race for president began, Tuesday might bring us closer to knowing the Democratic nominee. Before the real hard fought campaigning began in Pennsylvania, Senator Clinton had a 20 point lead over Barack Obama . On Monday a list of new polls was released giving Clinton a range of only 3 to 8 points in her lead over Obama. Obama has been able to cut into Clinton?s lead by focusing on the blue-collar voters of Pennsylvania and working hard to relate to the working class in that state. Obama?s campaign in Pennsylvania reached out to this voting demographic in ways that he did not do in other states. Senator Clinton has also been hurt by the Bosnia sniper story which has further damaged her image as an honest and trustworthy leader. Obama has also faced his own problems while campaigning for the crucial state. While giving a speech in San Francisco, comments he made about small town Pennsy... Howard Dean to Superdelegates: Make Up Your Mind Now
2008-04-18 07:24:00 Howard Dean spoke with Wolf Blitzer of CNN on Thursday and repeated his call for the remaining undecided superdelegates to make up their mind, starting now. Dean has stated before that he would like the race to be determined before July 1st which would give the nominee nearly two months to prepare for the convention. Dean said there are 35 percent of the remaining superdelegates who have yet to make a decision. ?There?s about 65 percent, roughly, percent of the superdelegates who voted, there?s about 320 some odd left to vote. I need them to say who they are for, starting now. They really do need to do that,? Dean said. Dean explained that the last primary date is on June 3rd and that there is no reason for the Democrats to give up 2 or 3 months of active campaigning due to indecisive superdelegates. Dean did not mince words when it came to making a decision if you are a superdelegate. Dean wants decisions to be made now or at least by June 3rd when the p... Pennsylvania Debate Focuses Little on the Issues
2008-04-17 07:27:00 Wednesday night?s debate in Pennsylvania featured questions about some of the most controversial statements and potentially damaging campaign supporters. Clinton tried to explain the difference between being received in Bosnia with sniper fire and being welcomed by a crowd featuring a small child with flowers in hand. Senator Clinton admitted that she lied when it came to Bosnia and asked voters to try and ?look over? the issue. ?I may be a lot of things, but I?m not dumb. On a couple of occasions in the last weeks, I just said some things that were not in keeping with what I knew to be the case.? ?I?m embarrassed by it. I apologized for it. I said it was a mistake,? she added. I wonder if she realizes that in that statement she said that she?s not dumb, she just knowingly lied about some things. One thing she obviously has not learned is that in the modern age we can find video of almost anything. As first lady your trips are well documented and there are going to be c... Daily Show Documentary on ?Fair and Balanced News Channel?

On Thursday night John Oliver of The Daily Show began a two part documentary on the Fox News channel showing just how ?fair and balanced? they actually have been. The parts of the piece only total about 10 minutes but it is all that is needed to show the different types of coverage that is given to two different administrations. When it came to executive privilege, journalists for Fox News wanted it limited during the Clinton administration and expanded during the Bush administration. Clinton?s matter was a personal and sexual matter, yet the journalists at Fox News felt that Clinton should have to testify by order of Republicans in congress. Clinton Fights to Reduce Expectations as Polls Tighten in PA
2008-04-10 06:29:00 Barack Obama has been slowly gaining ground on Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania and the Clinton campaign on Wednesday worked aggressively to reduce expectations in the state. Senator Clinton previously held what was thought to be an insurmountable lead in Pennsylvania and it has shrunk down to a near tie. There have been nine polls conducted since the beginning of April and the Real Clear Politics average shows Senator Clinton still has a 7.9 percent lead. An American Research Group poll, however, found there to be a statistical tie between Obama and Clinton. Another poll conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP) showed Obama had a 2 point edge over Clinton in Pennsylvania. Clinton previously held double-digit leads over Obama in Pennsylvania, which is why they are working so hard to reduce expectations. ?The fact that we still maintain a lead after Sen. Obama spent six days here and got the backing of Sen. Casey (D-Penn.), and in light of being outspent,... More About: Fights , Polls , Reduce , Expectations
Obama Talks VP Criteria
2008-04-08 07:49:00 Photo by Steve Boxbe Flickr Barack Obama talked with the Huffington Post on Monday about what he would like in a Vice Presidential running mate. What others see as his weaknesses, Obama feels are his greatest strengths. ?I would like somebody who knows about a bunch of stuff that I'm not an expert on,? Obama said. Most critics would see Obama?s weaknesses being security issues and foreign policy. ?I think a lot of people assume that might be some sort of military thing to make me look more Commander-in-Chief-like. Ironically, this is an area--foreign policy is the area where I am probably most confident that I know more and understand the world better than Senator Clinton or Senator McCain,? Obama said. (Photo by SEIU: SEUI Flickr) Barack Obama?s campaign announced on Thursday that he had raised over $40 million dollars during the month of March. 218,000 donors gave for the first time during March raising his total to 1.3 million people who have given money to his campaign. Senator Clinton announced that she raised more than $20 million dollars during March. Clinton?s number is large in itself but yet only half as much as Obama was able to raise during the same time period. Clinton?s March total was the second best of her campaign and Obama?s $40 million was also one of his best months. In February Obama was able to raise $55 million, while Clinton was able to raise $35 million dollars. Murtha Denies Obama Credit for Iraq Speech, Praises Reagan Administration

John Murtha (D-Pennsylvania) became popular after he spoke out against the war after he was given the gift of hindsight. "Obama had a nice view from the outside. It is easy when you are outside to make a statement like that. When you are inside, you have a responsibility to try and work this thing out. I don't know that [his speech] had an impact. I didn't even know about the speech. A lot of people said a lot of things," Murtha said. Murtha has endorsed Senator Clinton which came as a surprise to many. There were many pundits and experts that thought Obama?s stance on the war before the invasion would be a big factor in deciding who to endorse. Based on Murtha?s statement about Obama?s speech he is trying to shoulder off his responsibility for his vote by saying inside the beltway politicians had more reasons to go into Iraq. ...
