New Poll Gives Obama Edge in Pennsylvania
2008-04-03 06:42:00
Call him the comeback kid. According to a new poll done by Public Policy Poll ing (PPP), Obama now has a slight lead over Clinton in Pennsylvania . The poll showed Obama had 45 percent and Clinton had 43 percent support. A poll also done by PPP between March 15 and March 16 showed Clinton leading 56 percent to 30 percent. According to this PPP poll Clinton had a 26 percent lead just two weeks earlier. Obama still has a long way to go before he can claim any kind of victory in Pennsylvania. Certainly the kind of comeback he has had in the polls can be seen as a victory for the Obama campaign at this point in Pennsylvania. Barack Obama began lowering expectations in Pennsylvania as soon as he started campaigning there. Obama acknowledged that a 10 point loss to Clinton in the state would be entirely possible. Senator Clinton is counting heavily on Pennsylvania where she expected/expects to do well. Some say that a Clinton victory of 59 percent of the vote wou...

Obama Attacks McCain on Iraq; McCain Attacks Obama on Experience
2008-04-01 06:06:00
McCain borrowed page one from the Clinton playbook by going after Obama on his level of experience. McCain was able to observe the high rate of success that Senator Clinton had when she attacked Obama on experience and thought he would try it. McCain said that Obama, ?hasn't read or doesn't understand the history of this country,? McCain went on to say, ?In all due respect, he displays a fundamental misunderstanding of history, of how we maintain national security and what we need to do in the future to maintain our security. But I understand it because he has no experience or background in any of it.? Obama is apparently not learned enough to understand the fine principles of preemptive war under faulty intelligence. Obama was also on the offensive on Monday attacking McCain for his position on the war in Iraq . "The problem that we've had, both with John McCain and George Bush, is there's no clear definition of success. There never was. And that's why t...

Clinton?s Run May Come Down to Money
2008-03-31 06:46:00
The past week the battle of words between Democratic Party members over the status of the presidential nomination has greatly intensified. Surrogates from both Clinton ?s campaign and Obama?s campaign have fueled arguments over whether or not Senator Clinton should step aside. On Friday, Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont) and Senator Christopher Dodd (D-Connecticut) both called for Senator Clinton to rethink her chances of being able to win the nomination. Leahy told reporters that Clinton, ?has every right, but not a very good reason, to remain a candidate for as long as she wants to.? Leahy and Dodd are both Obama supporters and Obama was quick to deny having any part in their statements. Senator Clinton responded quickly by saying that she was in this race for the long haul. Clinton told aides that she would not be ?bullied out? of the race. For comments on whether or not Hillary should step aside we go to her most vocal supporter. Former Presiden...

Obama Girl and McCain Girls
2008-03-27 07:26:00
Obama girl is back. This time she is asking Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to stop attacking her crush, Barack Obama . McCain has his own third party fans making videos for him starring three ?McCain girls?. The McCain girls take the song ?It?s Raining Men? and turn it into ?It?s Raining McCain?. The video shows the vast differences between the two in their video making talents. The Obama girl videos feature an actress lip-syncing the words to the song. The McCain girls video makes it quite obvious that they are not lip-syncing. The oldest of the McCain girls was not informed that she should not wear green clothing in front of a green screen. McCain?s face flies around the screen and cut outs of the senator are used to simulate water. One of the girls even washes her face with the tiny McCain?s. While these videos are all funny (whether or not they are intended to be funny) it is becoming apparent throughout this campaign that third party producers of thes...

Sinbad Debunks Clinton Sniper Story
2008-03-26 07:03:00
Senator Clinton ducks from sniper fire behind a small child at Bosnian airstrip. The last time I saw Sinbad in a movie it was while flipping through Saturday afternoon television. His starring role was a secret service agent responsible for guarding the president?s son. The comedian has re-emerged in a new role as a Barack Obama supporter. Why is this important? Sinbad has some information that may help to debunk a statement told by Senator Clinton about their trip to Bosnia. In 1996, Hillary Clinton , Chelsea Clinton, Sinbad, and others made a trip to Bosnia on behalf of the United States. Earlier this week Senator Clinton recalled her trip to Bosnia by saying, ?There was supposed to be some kind of a greeting ceremony at the airport, but instead we just ran with our heads down to get into the vehicles to get to our base.? Video from Bosnia in 1996 shows Senator Clinton being greeted by an 8 year old girl with flowers in her hand for the First Lady...

Hillary Clinton railed Barack Obama for not agreeing to a debate in Wisconsin. Guess who has not yet agreed to a April 19th debate in North Carolina ? Senator Clinton. Barack Obama has accepted both invitations to the April 16th debate in Pennsylvania and the April 19th debate in North Carolina. Senator Clinton ran two television spots in Wisconsin accusing Obama of not wanting to debate the issues with her in that state. Clinton at that time was desperate to get on the stage and debate Obama because she believed she had an advantage in that setting. Obama has stepped up his game when it comes to debates. In Texas and Ohio , Obama was relaxed, cool, and articulate. Obama showed in the last two debates that Hillary?s debating advantage had disappeared. Obama?s confidence as a debater may very well be the reason that he has agreed to debate and she has not. Obama and his campaign feel that a debate will not do any damage to him and may help him. Richardson Endorses Obama: Clinton Camp Gets Jealous
2008-03-22 04:12:00
On Friday, Barack Obama received a huge boost with Bill Richardson endorsing his campaign. Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico was a former Democratic presidential candidate and the nation?s only Hispanic governor. Richardson withdrew from the presidential race in January and his endorsement has been highly sought after since then. Former President Bill Clinton spent time watching the Super Bowl with Bill Richardson at his residence in Santa Fe. Obama finished off this week strong. Obama?s speech on race was extremely successful in polling data, showing he will come out of this bad situation looking like a strong leader. Michigan and Florida are not going to hold redo elections. This is good for Obama and leaves Senator Clinton basically no chance of winning the nomination. The endorsement from Bill Richardson caps off a rough but overall successful week for Obama. On ?Countdown? with Keith Olbermann, Bill Richardson said he waited until now to ma...

Democrats Battle at Own Peril
2008-03-21 06:36:00
Real Clear Politics is beginning to show what could be a trend in this presidential campaign. As Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton continue to battle it out for the nomination John McCain grows stronger. National head-to-head polls now show John McCain leading both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Previously, both Senator Obama and Clinton were leading McCain in most head-to-head polls. Real Clear Politics averages for polls conducted between March 13 and March 19, show McCain beating Clinton by 1.3 percent. The same polling average also showed Obama trailed McCain by 1.4 percent. McCain is now the official Republican nominee and is not facing the same daily campaign battles that Clinton and Obama are. McCain recently took the time to visit Iraq which just this week reached the 5 year anniversary of the U.S. led invasion. McCain is of course taking attacks from Democrats now that he is the Republican candidate, but with no clear Democratic nominee, there is no o...

Huckabee Defends Obama?s Pastor
2008-03-20 06:33:00
Senator Obama ?s pastor, Jeremiah Wright, found an unlikely ?friend? in Mike Huckabee . Huckabee defended Wright?s comments on race while appearing on ?Morning Joe? on MSNBC on Wednesday. Huckabee told MSNBC that, ?Obama has handled this about as well as anybody could.? The former Republican presidential candidate also defended Obama by saying you cannot hold him responsible for what others around him say. ?You can't hold the candidate responsible for everything that people around him may say or do,? Huckabee said. Barack Obama has ?denounced and rejected? Wright?s controversial comments on American foreign policy and race. On Tuesday, Barack Obama addressed the issue in a speech devoted to race. Obama also addressed Wright?s comments in the speech in an effort to once and for all show he does not share the same views on the subject. Obama?s speech was extremely well received by critics. The speech was compared to the oratory works of Kennedy, FDR, and Linc...

Florida Turns its Back?on Florida
2008-03-18 07:35:00
Michigan Democrats moved closer to a new primary on Monday by introducing legislation that would create the June 3rd election. Democratic leaders in the state of Florida also had their own announcement on Monday; they were not going to hold a new election. Michigan and Florida were stripped of their delegates by the Democratic National Committee for holding their primaries before February 5th. DNC rules stated that any state that moved their primary before February 5th would not have their delegates seated at the convention. Michigan and Florida thought the DNC was joking. Howard Dean and the rest of the DNC were totally serious about the rules. Michigan and Florida knew the rules of the DNC going into this election and set their primary dates in January regardless of the consequences. What possible reason did they have for breaking the rules and thinking they would get away with it? Michigan and Florida thought that this election would be over by n...

Ferraro Issue is Not Dead
2008-03-14 08:45:00
Keith Olbermann on Countdown Wednesday night made his first special comment on a Democrat. Olbermann?s issue that brought him to this point? Senator Clinton?s lack of a response to the comments made by Geraldine Ferraro. Ferraro made comments suggesting that Senator Barack Obama would not be where he is today if he were not African American. Ferraro first made these insidious comments on February 26 while on the radio. ?If Barack Obama were a white man, would we be talking about this, as a potential real problem for Hillary? If he were a woman of any color, would he be in this position that he?s in? Absolutely not.? Ferraro made similar comments that were published in a California newspaper. ?If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.? Olbermann states, ?And when this despicable ...

Clinton-Obama Ticket? Not Likely
2008-03-13 08:10:00
Over the past week, Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton have been floating around the idea of making Barack Obama their vice presidential nominee. The confusing part of this proposal is the fact that Senator Clinton does not yet have the presidential nomination and she is running in second place to Barack Obama. Senator Clinton appeared on CBS?s ?The Early Show? where she indicated she was more than open to a Vice President Obama. ?That may be where this is headed, but of course we have to decide who's on top of the ticket. I think the people of Ohio very clearly said it should be me,? Clinton said. Ohio? Stop my side hurts from laughing. Yeah, lets pick one of the 14 states where Clinton won and not any of the 30 states where she lost. Obama?s response signaled he was not going to settle for vice president while he was in the lead. ?The bottom line is, we've won twice as many states, we won a greater share of the popular vote and what's...

Clinton Surrogates Cross the Line Again
2008-03-11 04:26:00
Geraldine Ferraro suggests Obama would not be where he is now if he was not African American .Geraldine Ferraro is a member of Hillary Clinton ?s finance committee and a top Clinton fundraiser. I was not surprised to read on the Daily Kos about yet another top Clinton surrogate saying something racist and ignorant about Barack Obama . ?If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position. And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept,? Ferraro said. Ferraro, a former Democratic vice presidential candidate has claimed that if Barack Obama were white, he would not be winning this election. I think Barack Obama would like to argue how lucky he is to be African American when he is haling a cab or running for president in a state where the population is more than 90 percent white. Last Saturday, Wyoming overwhelmingly chose Barack Obama as their...

How Much for Those Delegates?
2008-03-10 04:51:00
The candidate that out spends their opponent usually wins. If that statement were true Mitt Romney would be the Republican nominee and Rudy Giuliani would have more than one delegate. Romney spent over $87 million dollars in his attempt to be the Republican nominee and lost. Obama and Clinton are still battling it out to be the Democratic nominee. Obama and Clinton have both spend over $100 million dollars so far in this campaign and neither of them have locked up the nomination. When we look at all of the spending during this campaign it seems that it is getting out of control. Here is a breakdown of how much each candidate has spent through the end of January and how many delegates they were awarded: Republicans: John McCain Money Spent: $48,518,664 Delegates: 1260 Unpledged RNC: 129 Mitt Romney Money Spent: $87,644,955 Delegates: 272 Unpledged RNC: 1 Rudy...

Conservative Pundits Just Don?t Understand Conservatism
2008-03-07 09:50:00
Senator John McCain has an uphill battle to climb now that he has become the nominee of the Republican Party . Conservative Republicans are torn over the idea of having McCain as the head of their party. There are many conservatives that dislike John McCain so much that they have said they will vote for the Democratic nominee. What is it that Senator McCain has done to agitate conservatives so much? First of all there is immigration. McCain has pushed for immigration reform while in the Senate which included some forms of ?amnesty? and did not have enough border protection for conservatives. McCain worked hand and hand on this bill with Senator Ted Kennedy who is seen as one of the most liberal senators in Washington. Second of all, McCain opposes torture and the practice of waterboarding. Waterboarding is used to simulate drowning and is used to solicit information from suspects during interrogations. As a former prisoner of war, McCain opposes such abuses as ...

50 Superdelegates Set to Endorse Obama
2008-03-06 07:48:00
According to the Huffington Post, the co-chair of Obama ?s campaign in Missouri has said that Obama will be going public with the support of 50 new superdelegates. These are delegates that were previously ?uncommitted? to a particular candidate. Rep. Lacy Clay (D-Missouri) said that, ?(Sen. Clinton) will not make up those numbers. This race is over.? Tom Brokaw made a television appearance on Wednesday morning in which he said someone "very close to the Obama campaign" said they had 50 superdelegates ready to announce. Brokaw said that they were ready to go public with those numbers in the near future. According to RealClearPolitics .com, Obama has 1366 pledged delegates and Clinton has 1222. Clinton has 242 superdelegates and Obama has 207 superdelegates at the moment. 50 additional superdelegates would give Obama the lead among superdelegates along with his pledged delegate lead. This 50 superdelegate addition to Obama?s total would give Obama a lead...

Clinton and Obama Miss Big Opportunities in Texas and Ohio
2008-03-06 06:05:00
On March 4, 2008, Clinton and Obama both missed major opportunities for their campaigns. Clinton needed large margins in Texas and Ohio to close the gap in the delegate lead that Obama has over her. Obama needed to continue his wins to all but assure himself the nomination and bring Senator Clinton one step closer to leaving the race. Tuesday did not accomplish either of these goals for Clinton or Obama. The Obama campaign put Clinton?s net delegate gain from Tuesday at 4. Others say it could only be as large as 12. Tuesday gave Clinton momentum and wins that she desperately needed but was not the net gain she needed in delegates. Clinton won Rhode Island , Texas, and Ohio on Tuesday giving her momentum going into Pennsylvania in April. Obama continues to hold on to a 140 pledged delegate lead over Senator Clinton. The Obama campaign figures that even after Pennsylvania, a state that is more favorable to Clinton, Obama will maintain a 100 delegate lead o...

Michigan Democratic Party Says Yes to Election Redo
2008-03-06 01:23:00
Wednesday evening, Democratic officials in Michigan indicated that they were open to a new primary or caucus in order to get their delegates seated at the convention. There was no mention of what kind of election it would be but this time the election would be valid. Howard Dean told National Public Radio this Wednesday afternoon, that a redo of their election would likely be the only way their delegates would be seated. Dean took a hard line with Michigan and Florida saying they broke the rules of the party and they should not get to decide the winner of this nomination. Dean said, a situation where Michigan or Florida got to decide the election based on their previous elections, would divide the party. Over the weekend, Governor Charlie Crist of Florida indicated that he would support a redo of their primary. Howard Dean speculated that redo's of both Michigan and Florida would have to happen sometime in May or June. The Democratic National Convention is not until August and D...

McCain Seals Up Nomination
2008-03-05 04:54:00
On Tuesday, John McCain won Texas, Ohio, Rhode Island and Vermont. McCain only needed 177 delegates to reach the magic number and give him enough delegates to win the nomination. Tuesday night put McCain over the top with his wins in Ohio and Texas. Shortly after the polls closed in Texas and it was clear McCain had won the nomination, Huckabee called to congratulate McCain. Huckabee conceded his presidential bid at a campaign rally in Texas saying, "Senator McCain has run an honorable campaign, because he's an honorable man." ?I am very grateful and pleased to note that tonight, my friends, we have won enough delegates to claim with confidence, humility and a great sense of responsibility that I will be the Republican nominee for president of the United States,? McCain said. McCain told supporters this was ?an accomplishment that once seemed to more than a few doubters, unlikely.? That certainly is the case. McCain?s campaign was both bankrupt and hemorrha...

Florida Gov. Supports New Democratic Primary, Michigan Gov. Does Not
2008-03-03 06:21:00
Florida Governor Crist said that he would be open to a ?redo? of his state?s Democratic primary. Michigan ?s Governor has not been so generous. The Democratic Party stripped Michigan and Florida of their delegates for moving their primary before February 5th in violation of party rules. Governor Jennifer Granholm of Michigan said in February that, ?The DNC created this problem by the sanctions they used and unfairly applied. The DNC has to fix this problem.? As both a Democrat and a resident of Michigan, I have to say she could not be more wrong. Moving the primary ahead to January 15th brought Republicans and Democrats together in Lansing in ways they would not previously. Lawmakers, including Granholm, knew the rules going into the move and what the repercussions would be, this is not the Democratic National Committee?s problem. Florida was the first state to move their primary and the DNC stripped them of their delegates following that decision. Lawm...

Obama: $35 million? I Got You Beat
2008-02-29 07:27:00
Barack Obama speaks at a campaign rally. Photo by: Flickr On Thursday, Senator Clinton?s campaign announced that they had raised more than $35 million dollars in the month of February. The money problems at the Clinton campaign seem to be over for the time being. Just over a month ago, Senator Clinton had to loan her own campaign $5 million dollars as it struggled to raised the necessary campaign funds. January produced $13 million dollars in funds for Senator Clinton. February?s numbers which are expected to be more than $35 million dollars for Clinton, is nearly three times as much as she raised in January. February surpassed all other months for Senator Clinton for fundraising. Barack Obama raised $36 million dollars in January to Senator Clinton?s $13 million dollars. So what did the Obama campaign have to say when they heard how much she had raised in February? We got that, and some. Aides for Senator Obama told reporters that they had raised con...

Karl Rove: Stop Calling Obama ?Hussein?
2008-02-28 07:09:00
That title was not a misprint. Even Karl Rove , Bush?s right hand man, has reportedly told Republicans to stop calling Obama by his middle name Hussein. According to The Atlantic.com, Karl Rove met with Republican state directors in a closed door meeting in January, and told them they should not go down to that level. Rove told Republicans that calling him Barack Hussein Obama would give voters the impression that Republicans are bigots and could potentially damage the party. ?The context was, you're not going to stigmatize this guy. You shouldn't underestimate him,? one of the directors said. Rove suggested that Republicans refer to Hillary Clinton as Senator Clinton and Barack Obama as Senator Obama, the honorific which they have earned. Rove?s efforts obviously fell on deaf ears. At a McCain rally on Tuesday, Bill Cunningham called Obama by his full name every chance he got. McCain later apologized for the remarks. On Monday, the Tennessee R...

Clinton Goes for Broke in Attacks on Obama
2008-02-26 08:55:00
Hillary Clinton (center) Photo by: SEIU International/ FlickrSenator Clinton is apparently no longer looking at a future run for the White House as she continues to pile on attacks at Barack Obama . Clinton?s recent barrage of attacks seem to indicate her determination at trying to destroy a party favorite for her own personal gain. At a campaign appearance in Rhode Island , Senator Clinton mocked Obama for wanting to bring people together. Barack Obama, whether or not he even wins the nomination, is still a major star in the Democratic Party. Senator Clinton?s attacks, which are aimed at destroying him politically and personally, will breed resentment within the party that may not be forgotten. Who is paying the most attention right now to Clinton?s attack lines? Senator John McCain . McCain will be the Republican nominee who will likely be facing Barack Obama in the general election and he is paying close attention. What better line of attack do you have as a candidate than when you ...

Round 19: The Final Two Candidates Square Off
2008-02-22 07:38:00
On Thursday night, CNN aired the long awaited head-to-head match up between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton . The debate was held in Austin, Texas and was hosted by Univision and CNN. Many, including myself, had expected to see Clinton come out with all guns blazing ready to attack Obama with all she had. Instead we saw a civil discussion between Clinton and Obama during most of the debate with only a few Clinton digs at her opponent. Despite the hosts attempts to cut debate short on the issue of health care, the candidates demanded that the issue be discussed further. Clinton and Obama argued back and forth over the merits and downfalls of mandatory enrollment in health care. Obama?s plan does not force adults to buy into the plan but rather makes it affordable so that they will want to buy it. Clinton argued that this plan would not work and that her plan would cover everyone. We have heard this health care debate many times but the length and depth at wh...

McCain to Obama: I Can?t Raise Obama Kinds of Money
2008-02-21 08:29:00
Photo by Marc Nozell used under a Creative Commons License McCain is crying foul saying that Barack Obama has gone against his word on agreeing to take public financing for the general election. According to Reuters , Obama agreed last February to accept public financing for his campaign and therefore agree to the limitations on spending. Obama said he would agree to this as long as the Republican candidate agreed to do the same. The limitations would mean only $84.1 million dollars could be spent per candidate in the general election. These limitations would certainly be more of a limitation to Barack Obama than to John McCain. John McCain, the once bankrupt candidate early in the Republican primary, may end up facing the fundraising champion of this presidential race, Barack Obama in November. Barack Obama has received donations from almost 1 million people from the beginning of his campaign. In the month of January, Obama raised $36 million dollars. Th...

Obama Wins 9th In a Row; Clinton Will Continue Scorched Earth Campaign
2008-02-20 07:34:00
Barack Obama on the campaign trail. Photo by Allison Harger/Flickr The results from the Wisconsin primary gave Barack Obama his 9th straight victory over Hillary Clinton . Obama won by 17 percent in Wisconsin with 97 percent of the precincts reporting. The Clinton campaign had hoped to keep the margin close between the two. After strong negative campaigning from Senator Clinton against Barack Obama, the Clinton campaign supposedly sees 17 percent as an improvement. 17 percent is a smaller margin than the 37 percent in Washington, smaller than the 51 percent in Washington, D.C., and smaller than 29 percent in Maryland. The Clinton campaign sees the negative ads has having an impact on reducing this margin. Hillary Clinton has been running a campaign of win at all costs. Today a senior campaign official threw out a test balloon to the press suggesting that campaigns may start going after pledged delegates. Pledged delegates are the ones that are supposed t...

Borrowed Words, Heated Exchanges, and a Tight Race

Photo by Brett Weinstein/Flickr A night before the ?Cheesehead/L??au? primary, both candidates in the Democratic race are trying to reduce expectations. Wisconsin and Hawaii will vote tomorrow but the state both candidates are looking at is Wisconsin. The race is turning out to be a dead heat. Obama had been the favorite in Wisconsin following his huge wins in the Potomac primary last Tuesday, but it now seems that Hillary Clinton could leave the state smiling. Bad weather in the Midwest has amended the campaign schedules of both Clinton and Obama in Wisconsin. Due to the weather, Clinton will end up spending more time in the state during the last 48 hours than Obama will. The Obama campaign worked to lower expectations on Monday. David Plouffe, the campaign manager for Obama talked about the opposition?s campaign in Wisconsin. "[Hillary] is competing very heavily here. Clinton?s Keeps Negative Attacks Rolling
2008-02-18 06:58:00
After Clinton attacked Obama for not debating her in Wisconsin, she has gone after Obama even harder. Clinton has aired another new ad attacking Obama?s health care plan. Hillary released a new attack ad going after Obama on health care, social security, and once again saying he is afraid to debate her in Wisconsin. Hillary was not the only Clinton making attacks on Obama over the past week. Over the weekend, former President Bill Clinton accused Obama of knocking the other Democratic candidates out of the race because of his attacks on experience. While campaigning in Texas, Bill said that, "if you fought you made somebody mad, and you got cut up.? He went on to say, ?we just have to turn over a new leaf. And it is actually an advantage not to have any experience because then you never made anybody mad." Bill Clinton blames Obama for destroying the other candidates with his attacks on experience which have been very affective. The ad Hillary released,...

Clinton Goes Negative with Ads in Wisconsin
2008-02-15 10:15:00
Senator Clinton has recently released an attack ad on Barack Obama saying that he will not agree to debate her in Wisconsin . This is the first negative ad from Clinton directed specifically at Obama during the campaign. The ad accuses Obama of wanting to make speeches rather than debate her. Clinton has signed on to a debate at Marquette University in Milwaukee but Barack Obama has not yet done so. The ad features the narrator saying, ?maybe he?d prefer to give speeches than have to answer questions.? This is the Clinton Ad: Bill Burton, who is Obama?s spokesman issued this statement after the ad was released: Senator Obama and Senator Clinton have debated 18 times already and have agreed to two more debates in the next three weeks. It?s telling that Senator Obama is spending the day offering substantive ideas on how to fix the housing crisis, offer relief to middle-class families and end the outsourcing of Wisconsin jobs, while Senator Clinton is playi...
