Super Tuesday States (February 5, 2008)
2007-12-13 10:42:00
Here is a list of states that are involved on the hectic day that will be known as "Super Tuesday" 2008 for the presidential primary. Many states moved their primaries up in order to get on the radar of candidates and to have a say in the determination of the nominees for president. However, with such a large amount of states voting on Super Tuesday it will make it impossible for candidates to be able to focus on small states with a small amount of delegates. The states that would have been ignored before will likely be ignored again but on a different date this time.February: Home of Super Tuesday Alaska Precinct/House District Caucuses Tuesday, February 5, 2008 Arizona Primary Tuesday, February 5, 2008 Arkansas Primary Tuesday, February 5, 2008 California Primary Tuesday, February 5, 2008 Colorado Precinct Caucus Tuesday, February 5, 2008 Connecticut Primary Tuesday, February 5, 2008 Delaware Primary Tuesday, February 5, 2008 Georgia Primary Tuesday, February 5, 20...

Oprah Bump in South Carolina?
2007-12-12 09:20:00
Oprah drove in more than 29,000 people to the University of South Carolina football stadium on December 9th. New polls in South Carolina show that Barack Obama is now in a virtual tie with Senator Clinton. The Real Clear Politics averaged polls together for South Carolina and found Clinton with only a .7 percent lead over Obama. Clinton previously held double digit leads over Obama as recently as the end of November (American Research Group poll Nov. 26-29, 2007). According to Barack Obama?s website the Oprah event in South Carolina generated thousands of new support contacts. 9,600 people at the event signed supporter cards with the campaign for the first time. 68 percent of the people who signed up for the rally had never communicated with the campaign before. Perhaps having Oprah bring in 29,000 people to the event really did help to generate new support for Obama in South Carolina. South Carolina is the state where Obama saw the largest bump in the polls...

Dr. Paul TV Ad to Run in Iowa and New Hampshire
2007-12-11 09:16:00
The only M.D. in the presidential race for 2008 will be running a new ad in Iowa and New Hampshire that will focus on health care. Dr. Ron Paul has been able to raise over $10.8 million dollars (as of December 10) online since the beginning of October and has the money to spend on TV ads along with the other ?major? candidates. Many have not taken the congressman?s campaign seriously but with the amount of money he has raised recently and the intense following he receives from his supporters he is starting to get more attention. With large campaign funds like this there will be more ad buys to come. The ad features an actor talking about the type of health care reform that Ron Paul would push for if he were president. The ad references the shameful treatment that our soldiers received at Walter Reed Medical Facility and that our government cannot be trusted to run our health care. This is obviously no deviation from where Paul stands on government involveme...
?The Power Of ?O!? On The Trail With Obama?

(Photo by REUTERS/Brian Snyder (UNITED STATES).Oprah spent the weekend on a speaking tour along with Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. The tour began with two speaking engagements in Iowa on Saturday and then stopping in New Hampshire and South Carolina on Sunday. Packed crowds filled each event trying to catch a glimpse of Oprah voicing her endorsement on the campaign trail. At the University of South Carolina football stadium on Sunday over 29,000 people showed up to see Oprah, Michelle Obama, and Barack Obama. The extreme high demand for tickets to the event in South Carolina forced them to move the event from an 18,000 seat arena to the 80,000 seat football stadium at the University of South Carolina. Oprah said that in the past she has voted for as many Republicans as Democrats. Oprah said that her endorsement was not about partisanis...

Huckabee Dominating Iowa
2007-12-08 07:28:00
According to a Newsweek poll released on Friday, Mike Huckabee is not only leading in Iowa , he has a commanding lead over his opponents. Newsweek released a survey Friday which asked likely caucus voters to pick which Democratic or Republican candidate they favor. Mike Huckabee received 39 percent, Mitt Romney 17 percent, and Giuliani received 9 percent. The survey was conducted between December 5 and 6. Mitt Romney once held the lead in Iowa and now trails Huckabee by 22 points in this poll. The former ordained Southern Baptist preacher, Mike Huckabee, is winning the support of Christian evangelicals in Iowa and it has helped him to gain an edge in the polls there. Romney is having the opposite problem. Romney is a Mormon and that has made Christian evangelicals uneasy about supporting him. Romney just this week gave a speech from the George H.W. Bush library in Texas about his faith in order to put people?s worries at ease. Romney?s speech got goo...

Barack Obama Gaining in New Hampshire

Barack Obama campaigning in New Hampshire . Obama has been narrowing the gap in the polls in New Hampshire over Clinton recently. Photo by Barack Obama Flickr Trouble continues to swell for Hillary Clinton (D-New York) who appears to be losing ground on her lead in New Hampshire. Barack Obama has been continuing to gain on Senator Clinton (D-New York) since October and the same continues to be true in New Hampshire. Obama has continued to hold onto his lead in the first caucus state of Iowa and has now made significant gains on Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire. Clinton once had double digit leads in New Hampshire and a new ABC/Washington Post poll finds that it is now only 6 points. According to the Washington Post, a CNN/WMUR poll from early autumn showed Hillary Clinton had a 20 point lead over her next closest competitor Barack Obama in New Hampshire. The recently released ABC/Washington Post poll showed Hillary Clinton had 35 percent support among lik...

Democratic and Republican Debate Schedule Update
2007-12-06 05:48:00
There have been a few changes to the Republican and Democratic debate schedules since the last post was made here. The December 10, 2007 Democratic debate in Los Angeles was canceled due to the writers strike. The Republican Party has also decided to schedule the Univision Spanish-language debate that was previously canceled. Tom Tancredo is the only candidate that will not be there because he refuses to take part in a Spanish language debate. How sensitive and assimilating of him. Duncan Hunter has even agreed to attend. Here are the current updated lists. If you know of any other changes feel free to post comments. Thanks! Remaining Democratic Debate Schedule : December 10, 2007: CANCELED: CBS in Los Angeles, CADecember 13, 2007: Des Moines Register and Iowa Public Television will host a Democratic debate in Johnson County, Iowa.December 17, 2007: CNN and Politico.com host a Democratic presidential debate at the Kennedy Library in...
Democratic Debate in LA Canceled Due to Writers Strike
2007-12-05 09:56:00
On December 10, 2007, Democrats were set to participate in a debate on CBS in Los Angeles, moderated by Katie Couric . The Democratic Party was forced to announced that the debate was canceled because of the writers strike that is currently under way."Due to the uncertainty created by the ongoing labor dispute between CBS and the Writers Guild of America, the DNC has canceled the Dec. 10 debate in Los Angeles. There are no plans to reschedule," a statement from DNC Communications Director Karen Finney said.Hillary Clinton was the first to cancel because entering the debate would be seen as crossing a picket line. Clinton wanted no part of that and the rest of the candidates agreed to cancel as well. Now there is only one nationally televised (CNN) debate left for Democrats before the crucial January 3rd primary in Iowa.

Clinton Takes Heat From Rivals for Iran Vote
2007-12-05 08:39:00
On Tuesday, Hillary Clinton took more pressure from her Democratic rivals during a debate aired on NPR. The debate was held in Des Moines, Iowa and was limited to three topics. Iran , immigration and China were the only topics of the debate and following Monday?s release of the National Intelligence Estimate on Iran, it was an open opportunity for Clinton?s rivals to talk about her vote on Iran. Senator Clinton voted for the Kyl-Lieberman amendment which was passed back in September of this year. The amendment declared Iran?s Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization. Democratic rivals of Clinton called her vote misguided in light of the new intelligence on Iran that says they stopped their nuclear weapons program back in 2003. Senator Clinton claimed that her vote was meant to be a push for diplomacy. Clinton?s rivals were quick to refute this claim. "Declaring a military group sponsored by the state of Iran a terrorist organization, that's suppose...

Where Bush Says There?s Smoke, There Usually Isn?t Fire.
2007-12-04 07:16:00
Stephen J. Hadley speaks at the White House on Monday about the new National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) on Iran. (Photo by REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque). The United States went to war in Iraq based on the Bush administration?s belief that they had weapons of mass destruction. There were none. In fact Saddam Hussein was not even close to having a nuclear weapon and did not have the chemical weapons that they scared the American people into believing they had. After starting a war with Iraq over weapons of mass destruction, the Bush administration had begun beating the drums of war again over nuclear weapons. This time the target was Iran. Today, a major report that was prepared by 16 United States intelligence agencies was released saying Iran has stopped their nuclear weapons program. The National Intelligence Estimate found that there was a consensus, based on strong evidence, that Tehran had stopped pursuing nuclear weapons in 2003. The report was ?moderate...

Obama and Huckabee Lead in Iowa
2007-12-03 07:24:00
Barack Obama giving a foreign policy speech to a crowd in Iowa back in October. Photo by: Barack Obama FlickrAccording to a new Des Moines Register poll former governor Mike Huckabee has taken the lead from Mitt Romney in the Republican primary in Iowa. The same poll also shows more good news for Senator Barack Obama and it gives him more evidence that he is leading Senator Clinton in the first caucus state. With exactly one month to go before the Iowa caucuses on January 3rd the Democratic race continues to be extremely tight. The poll found that 28 percent of likely voters favored Barack Obama, 25 percent for Hillary Clinton , and 23 percent for John Edwards . Bill Richardson was the next closest candidate with only 9 percent of likely voters supporting him. 7 percent were still undecided or not sure. An important thing to consider with this poll is that more than half of likely caucus goers said that they could change their minds on a candidate before January ...

Walker Texas Ranger Endorsement Is In
2007-12-02 08:39:00
Chuck Norris has officially endorsed Mike Huckabee, as you may know already. Now Mike Huckabee is using the awesome power that is Walker Texas Ranger to propel his campaign. Recently, Mike Huckabee?s website has produced a one on one conversation style video that they have called a ?webisode?, where the ranger himself and Huckabee talk about the endorsement. Barack Obama has Oprah, Hillary Clinton has Barbra Streisand and Rob Reiner, well Mike Huckabee needed his own star power. In the webisode Huckabee joked that after the endorsement his campaign officially turned around. Money started rolling in, poll numbers went up, and people now take him seriously. ?You?ve got to realize that as soon as your endorsement came out everything in the campaign changed, I mean our web traffic went nuts, contributions went up, and gosh?we had people that suddenly said he?s a serious candidate. And then there were those who were just flat out afraid not to support me anymor...

Republican CNN/YouTube Debate Videos (November 28, 2007)
2007-11-30 07:06:00
On Wednesday night Anderson Cooper hosted the first ever Republican YouTube debate on CNN. The questions were submitted by regular Americans (likely Republicans) and played for the candidates at the debate. Mike Huckabee showed his character the most on Wednesday by defending his state?s practice of educating children of illegal immigrants. Huckabee told Romney that he was going to finish what he was going to say and said that we should not punish children for their parents mistakes. Huckabee showed his commitment to education and did not back down to Mitt Romney. Chuck Norris was also in the audience and in post debate talk to show his support for Governor Huckabee. Huckabee has Walker Texas Ranger on his side. He should win Iowa. Here is the full YouTube/CNN debate: Part 1: Part 2: Part 3: Part 4: Part 5: Part 6: Part 7: Part 8: Part 9: Part 10: Part 11: Pa...

Republican CNN/YouTube Debate (November 28, 2007)

A view of the CNN/YouTube Republican presidential debate from St. Petersburg, Florida. Anderson Cooper hosted the event on November 28, 2007. (Photo by REUTERS). After months of waiting we finally got to see the Republicans face questions from regular Americans. The Republican CNN/YouTube presidential debate almost did not happen because most of the candidates ?did not like the format?. In other words they were afraid of the questions from the American public. Mitt Romney thought it was below him to take questions from a snowman. Due to outside pressure they eventually had to set a date and show up to the debate on Wednesday. What better way to spend two hours than to listen to 8 mediocre candidates argue through the issues. Wednesday night got started quickly between Romney and Giuliani. Also McCain and everyone he was mad at. Romney and Giuliani had been trying to smear each other?s record on illegal immigration over the last week and after the first que...

Clinton May Not Be Right For Dems: Trails Top Republicans
2007-11-27 05:47:00
Since declaring herself a candidate for president, Hillary Clinton has been vocal about the fact that she thinks she is the Democratic party?s best chance at beating the Republicans in 2008. In polls conducted over the summer she was able to beat all of the Republican candidates in a head to head match. Things have certainly changed since then. According to a new Zogby Interactive poll Hillary Clinton looses to the top 5 Republican candidates nationally in head to head polls. John Edwards and Barack Obama however, still had leads over all Republicans in those same head to head match ups. The once ?presumptive nominee? for the Democratic party is showing yet another weakness in her bid for the White House and that is her possible inability to win in a general election. One thing that Iowa and New Hampshire voters love to do is to pick someone based on electability. Democratic voters in these states tend to choose not only based on who they like the most but a...

Huckabee Surging in Iowa and Clinton Slips in New Hampshire
2007-11-22 08:36:00
Mike Huckabee at a values voter summit in Washington, DC. (Photo by REUTERS). An ABC News/Washington Post poll shows Mike Huckabee is gaining significant ground in Iowa. Since the previous poll was conducted in July, Huckabee increased his support by 16 percent. Huckabee is currently polling at 24 percent, which, puts him in second place in Iowa behind Mitt Romney who is expected to get 28 percent of likely voters. Mitt Romney?s lead has shrunk significantly on average in Iowa do to Huckabee?s strong support among conservatives. Mike Huckabee has been consistently pro-life and is loved in the evangelical community in Iowa. Giuliani who was expected to be the front runner for Republicans is only polling at 13 percent in Iowa. Huckabee?s success is clearly coming at Giuliani?s expense and a poor showing in Iowa could be costly to Rudy. In New Hampshire, Democrats also saw significant changes. According to a new CNN/WMUR poll Clinton lost 7 percent of...

Obama Takes Lead in Iowa

Barack Obama campaigns in Fairfax, Iowa . Photo by: Barack Obama Flickr With less than 50 days until the Iowa caucuses Barack Obama has taken a 4 point lead over Hillary Clinton , according to a Washington Post /ABC poll. The race is still extremely close between the three front runners in Iowa. When comparing a CBS News/New York Times poll conducted in the beginning of November and this new Washington Post/ABC poll, Obama gained 8 percent from the previous poll. Barack Obama right now is expected to get 30 percent of likely caucus voters and Senator Clinton still has 26 percent. John Edwards was in a close third with 22 percent. This poll shows everyone that Hillary Clinton is beatable. The media has been calling her the presumed nominee for months now but that is obviously not the case. Obama has made headway in Iowa recently but the shuffle between the top three candidates continues to be uncertain. 43% of respondents said they could change their minds b...

Democratic Debate November 15, 2007 from Las Vegas, Nevada
2007-11-18 07:03:00
Democratic candidates on stage at the campus of the University of Las Vegas Nevada . The debate was hosted by CNN. (Photo by REUTERS). The first 10-15 minutes was a fire fight between the candidates. The first questions asked by Wolf Blitzer and the rest of the panel were designed to get things started off quickly. Clinton came out swinging. She attacked Obama?s health care plan saying that it does not cover 15 million people. Obama and Edwards came at Clinton just as hard. Edwards was so effective and efficient that Clinton resorted to calling it ?mudslinging.? Clinton also called the attacks straight out of the Republican playbook and called them ?personal? attacks. Edwards said that there was nothing personal about this and that it was about who is going to be the best person to speak up for the 35 million people in this country who are going hungry. Clinton obviously had the crowd on her side Thursday which was a major help to her. Boo?s, cheer...

Sudan Update: Displaced Persons Being Forced From Camps
2007-11-17 08:40:00
A girl stands in front of a camp in Sudan for Internally Displaced Persons (IDP's). The camp is so large that only part of it is shown and seems to never end. (Photo by: REUTERS/Stuart Price/AMIS/Handout (SUDAN)). After forcing their citizens into camps, the Sudanese government is now trying to drive them out of those camps. 2.5 million people or more are Internally Displaced Persons (IDP?s) from Sudan and most of these people end up in humanitarian camps. In October, the United Nations reported that the Sudanese government was forcing hundreds of families from the camp at Otash, near Nyala. The camp is home to 60,000 displaced persons in Southern Darfur . The United Nations has denounced the practice but human rights groups are calling it a violation of international law. John Holmes, under-secretary-general for Humanitarian Affairs said, ?Given that security forces were threatening the displaced with sticks and rubber hoses at Otash camp, the involuntary n...

Ron Paul On What To Do About Pakistan

Ron Paul appeared on ?Studio-B? on Fox News on November 6, 2007 and talked about a variety of issues. Paul was asked if he is really a Republican or a Libertarian and talked about his 4.2 million fund raising record day set on November 5th. Paul called his campaign ?self propelled?, meaning that it is driven by his supporters who are extremely enthusiastic. His record breaking fundraising day was organized and planned entirely by Paul supporters. Paul was also asked about Pakistan which is a critical issue that needs our attention. Paul was asked what he would do about the situation if he was president now. Paul started off by saying that he would cut off U.S. funding to Pakistan and no longer interfere with their government. Paul also added that President Pervez Musharraf is, ? a us puppet of ours? and a military dictator. Paul explained that part of the reason people in that region do not like America is because we say we support Democracy but yet we s...

New Presidential Polls for Iowa and New Hampshire
2007-11-15 07:05:00
New polls released for New Hampshire show Hillary Clinton ?s lead over Barack Obama is slowly shrinking. Mitt Romney has increased his lead in New Hampshire by even more over his two nearest opponents John McCain and Rudy Giuliani . According to a Real Clear Politics poll, which averages multiple polls, Mitt Romney has a 18 percent lead in New Hampshire and Hillary Clinton still has a 13.8 percent lead over Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton?s lead has slipped in New Hampshire since the last Democratic debate on October 30. According to a CNN/Opinion Research poll Clinton had a 51 to 21 percent lead over Obama when the poll was conducted from October 12 through 14. The same poll showed that people questioned between November 2 and 4, gave Clinton a 44 to 25 percent edge over Obama. Obama was able to cut the deficit by 11 points to 19 percent in the CNN poll. A new CBS/New York Times poll shows Clinton with only a 15 point lead over Obama with RCP poll averages even...

Iowa: Winner Take All?
2007-11-14 06:45:00
John Edwards campaigns in Iowa, a critical state for Edwards at this point. (Photo by REUTERS). On January 3, 2008, Iowa Democrats are scheduled to cast their votes in the state caucuses. For several months now the top three Democratic candidates have been in a virtual three way tie between John Edwards, Barack Obama , and Hillary Clinton . After John Kerry won the Iowa caucus back in 2004, he gained about 20 points in national polls. This number may not be as high this time around considering Obama and Edwards are more well known than Kerry was at the time, but there would be a considerable Iowa bump. Historically, Democrats in Iowa and New Hampshire decide who they are going to vote for late. In the last Iowa Democratic caucus 4 of 10 voters said they waited until the last week before voting to decide who they were going to vote for. The last two Democrats who were opposed at the caucus and won, went on to be the Democratic nominee (Al Gore and John Kerry). Sin...

Barack Obama at the Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Des Moines, Iowa. (Photo by REUTERS/Joshua Lott. )Speaking before a crowd of more than 9,000 in Iowa last week Barack Obama may have officially hit his stride. Along with several other leading Democratic candidates Barack Obama addressed Democrats at the important Jefferson-Jackson Dinner in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday. Critics are saying that it was the best speech he has given during the campaign, and should he win the nomination, would be one of the turning points of his candidacy. Obama?s passion electrified a crowd stacked with Barack supporters. Obama also went after the frontrunner with zeal; for voting for a war that should not have been waged, not answering tough questions, not being honest with Americans, and just not being the right candidate for the party. Barack Obama said the Iraq war, "should have never been authorized and should have never been waged." "When I am the nominee of this party...

Hillary Clinton Plants Audience Questions
2007-11-12 01:07:00

Sounds like George W. Bush right? Yes it does, but this time it was Hillary Clinton who was found to have planted questions in her audience. Last week Clinton campaign aides urged a student from Grinnell College to ask a question about global warming. The student reportedly told her college newspaper that Senator Clinton was also instructed by her staff to call on her during the question and answer session. Senator Clinton has also been campaigning on the promise to be different from the current administration and this move can only be seen as the smitten image of George W. Bush. The Clinton campaign admitted to planting the question on Friday but denied that Clinton was aware of the situation. This is not the first time that the Clinton campaign has been accused of planting softb...

Bush Gets His First Veto Override

President Bush speaks while in the Oval Office. (Photo by REUTERS). The Senate voted 79 to 14 on Thursday, to override President Bush?s veto of the $23 billion dollar water resources bill. This was the first time that the Democratically controlled congress was able to override a veto by President George W. Bush. Also, on Wednesday, congress passed a $151 billion dollar health, education and labor spending bill. Democrats showed that they will fight each spending bill with everything they have and this time they were overwhelmingly successful. 34 Republicans voted for the measure and only 12 voted against it. Congress flexed it?s muscles with these big wins and now Democrats are determined to do more. Senator Barbra Boxer (D-California) said, ?We have said today, as a Congress to this president, you can?t just keep rolling over us like this.? Boxer also went on to say, ?You can?t make everything a fight because we?ll see it through. And that?s a big deal...

Sam Brownback Endorses McCain
2007-11-08 08:06:00

On Wednesday, Sam Brownback announced that he was endorsing Republican presidential candidate John McCain. Sam Brownback was the family values conservative candidate of the Republican presidential campaign before he dropped out from the race on October 19, 2007. This was the second major conservative endorsement of the day on Wednesday, after Pat Robertson announced his support for Giuliani. However, this endorsement made some sense. John McCain is a pro-life candidate and is only on his second marriage. McCain dragged Brownback around to every campaign event possible in Iowa Wednesday in order to use the endorsement as much as possible. Brownback was well liked in Iowa and had a lot of support among evangelical Christians. Brownback called McCain, ?The best pro-life candidate to beat Hillary Clinton .? McCain told supporters that, ?We Republicans mus...

Pat Robertson Has Officially Lost it: Endorses Giuliani

Rudolph Giuliani laughs at the fact he cannot believe he pulled this endorsement off. (Photo by REUTERS). Standing proudly behind the navy blue background with text reading ?JoinRudy2008.com?, Pat Robertson endorsed Rudolph Giuliani?s candidacy on Wednesday. How did Rudy Giuliani , a pro-choice, pro-gay rights candidate, win the endorsement of someone who once told a city not to turn to God if a natural disaster hit their city because they did not favor teaching intelligent design? Robertson?s endorsement of Giuliani is clearly an issue of politics and not faith. Robertson has preached against homosexuality and abortion for years and now all of a sudden he endorses a presidential candidate who does not fit this criteria. There is no lack of presidential candidates that are pro-life in the Republican field. Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee, Duncan Hunter , John McCain, and Tom Tancredo are all pro-life. Robertson has obviously decided it is more important that his...

Ron Paul Raises $3.5 Million in One Day

Ron Paul addresses his supporters. (Photo by richard.deyoung@gmail.com)Republican presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul of Texas was able to haul in more than $3.5 million dollars today. He was helped mainly through online contributions commemorating Guy Fawkes Day. Guy Fawkes failed in his attempt to kill King James I on November 5, 1605. Supporters of Paul used clips from the movie ?V for Vendetta? from YouTube, which features Guy Fawkes as the main character. The campaign also used the phrase from Guy Fawkes Day, ?Remember, remember the 5th of November,? to motivate donors for Paul. The $3.5 million dollars came from a total of more than 22,000 supporters. Paul?s income as of 9:00 EST was the largest income in a single day for any Republican. Hillary Clinton was able to raise $6.2 million on June 30 of this year. Barack Obama is also the only other candidate to raise more in a single day. With 3 more hours left to go in the day based on w...

Ron Paul shaking hands with a supporter. Photo by Jeff Greenspan. October 29, 2007 Ron Paul released two new TV ads that will air in New Hampshire. The ads started airing that day in the ?Live Free or Die? state. The cost of the ad buy was relatively cheap at $1.1 million dollars but it is the first major use of the major income that Ron Paul has been able to take into his campaign. After raising more than $5.1 million dollars last quarter, Paul is now able to compete with the media?s favorite candidates. The campaign is trying to raise $12 million dollars during this quarter and so far they have raised $2,774,000 million. The Paul campaign has until December 31st to reach their ambitious fundraising goal. New Hampshire is a state where Ron Paul thinks he has a good chance of picking up support. The campaign thinks that his message of liberty, smaller government, and following the constitution will resonate well in that early primary state. The first ad fe...
