Health Care: No More Baby Steps
2009-09-04 07:36:00 America has never been a country of baby steps. Franklin D. Roosevelt did not dream in baby steps when he imagined the New Deal. John F. Kennedy did not dream in baby steps when he encouraged NASA to reach for the moon. Health care reform has ignited passions on both sides. Those that think we are headed towards socialism are afraid they will be stuck with the bill for those that are not covered now. Those on the left want a plan that will efficiently cover all Americans. President Obama has been pushing this issue with all of his "political capital" after he was elected. Health care has been at the forefront of his political agenda for months now causing his own approval ratings to plummet. In mid-August President Obama signaled that he would be willing to concede ground on the public health care option in his health care reform overhaul. Instead of the public option there would be health insurance co-ops designed to provide low cost health insurance. The question remains h... More About: Baby , Health Care , Care
Conservative Radio Host Calls Newt and Cheney Zombies
2009-06-17 07:55:00 Republican radio talk show host John Batchelor called out fellow Republicans for helping to push the minority party into possible extinction in a recent Daily Beast article. "The GOP is the equivalent of a shrinking third party on its way to becoming a museum piece beside the Whigs, the Greenbacks, and the Prohibitionists," Batchelor said.Batchelor referred to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, as a "generalissimo of zombies" and goes on to compare both Cheney and Gingrich to zombies feeding on everyone's brains."Fail” is a word that ties together Limbaugh, Gingrich, Cheney ,and [Eric] Cantor, and they use the word like a curse routinely. “Fail, Obama.” “Fail, [Colin] Powell.” “Fail, [Nancy] Pelosi.” “Fail, liberals.” “Fail, Moslems.” “Fail, health care.” “Fail, moderates.” “Fail, city on a hill." The zombies hurl the word at whoever does not look like them or listen to them or need them. They are speaking into the looking glass. “Who’s the fair... Third Grader Organizes Gay Marriage Rally
2009-05-23 08:46:00 Ethan McNamee, a third grader from Denver, Colorado organized his own rally for the gay marriage cause. According to a local ABC News affiliate covering the event, Ethan became concerned about the issue after hearing anti-gay remarks on the playground and after hearing about a local gay couple that could not get married. "Everybody is different in a good way," Ethan said. Ethan explained during his remarks at the rally that civil unions are not the same as gay marriage because they are not afforded the same benefits that they would be given under marriage.Ethan organized the rally and invited the guest speakers to come. Ethan admited that it was more work than he thought it would be but that it was still a lot of fun. Ethan also admitted that there might be some people at the rally that may disagree but he believed he was doing the right thing. It is becoming clear that this is our generation's civil rights issue. The issue of gay marriage and rights for gays, lesbians... More About: Marriage , Gay Marriage , Rally
Why Dobson Hates Hate Crime
2009-05-16 10:13:00 Recent hate crime legislation has passed the United States House and is currently being considered in the Senate. The new legislation expands current hate crimes legislation to include homosexuals and transgendered individuals.Hate crimes legislation is designed to protect individuals from brutal violence because of their defined social group. This includes race, religion, color, or nationality.Christian talk show hosts and Christian leaders across the country are outraged at the potential addition of sexual orientation and gender identity to the list.James Dobson of Focus on the Family called the bill "utter evil" and said the bill seeks to "undermine the rule of law." Dobson said the bill could protect exhibitionism, fetishism, incest, necrophilia, pedophilia, prostitution, sexual masochism, sexual sadism, urophilia, voyeurism, or bestiality. Republican members of the House of Representatives said the bill would have a "chilling effect." Steve King (R-Iowa) suggested that we ... More About: Crime
Michael Savage: Don't Voice Your Free Speech At Me
2009-05-13 06:50:00 Conservative radio talk show host Michael Savage was recently banned from entering the United Kingdom along with more than a dozen other people. Michael Savage's show "Savage Nation" is heard by 10 million people weekly and is the third largest radio show in America. The list of people banned from entering the United Kingdom included a Hamas terrorist and a white supremacist. Savage came on "Talk of the Nation" to discuss his banning from a country that enjoys free speech. The interview lasted 7 minutes and 20 seconds at which point Michael Savage hung up.Savage outraged at his being banned from the UK for exercising his free speech in the United States came to talk to NPR about his fate. Neal Conan the host of "Talk of the Nation" took to the phones to take questions from callers. The first caller started by saying that, if every time he used the words Islamic or Islam he inserted the word Christian or Jew, he would be off the air in one day. Savage began berating... Conservatives Love Torture But Don't Want Others To See It
2009-05-13 05:50:00 If you were not already sick and tired of hearing about torture there is another issue to add to the debate. In April, President Obama announced that his administration would be releasing hundreds of photos of torture victims. President Obama has made transparency a top priority in his administration including the past administration. The conservative talking point news network Fox News was outraged at the release of American torture photos. Sean Hannity and Governor Mike Huckabee called the action a great danger to the United States.Hannity and other conservatives argued that the release of the photos would further inflame potential terrorists. What about the actual torture? Isn't that what is really inflaming the potential for violence?Conservatives are not outraged or even disappointed by the fact that we are torturing as a Democratic nation, they are outraged that we are releasing the pictures of our torturing. Limbaugh Pokes Fun Of Americans Participating In Recession
2009-05-06 05:51:00 Rush Limbaugh spoke before the Heritage Foundation on Monday evening to address the top donors of the foundation. Limbaugh spoke about the recession and how easy it has been for him to over come it. Limbaugh joked that he never had a down year and that even now his ratings and bookings are up. "So I always believed that if we’re going to have a recession, just don’t participate," Limbaugh said. Simple words coming from someone who sits and offends all day. How about the factory worker who is forced to participate in a recession by being down-sized? It sure is easy to make fun of those who are less well off as you but it really is not that simple. Every time talks of a looming recession force consumers to reconsider their buying habits workers all over suffer from lowered demand. Wouldn't it be great if people stopped listening to Rush every time he made an insensitive, racist, or off handed remark? Perhaps Rush would suffer his own "ratings recession." Everyo... Michelle Bachmann World's Dumbest Person
2009-04-29 09:25:00 Congresswoman Michelle Bachmann (R-Minnesota) said during an interview on Tuesday that she thought it was interesting that two "Democrat" presidents were in power during swine flu outbreaks. The incompetence of Michelle Bachmann I believe is no longer being debated, however these comments cross the border into the unintelligent. First of all, do we really have to keep reminding Republicans how offensive it is to call the Democratic Party the "Democrat Party"? This is certainly no slip of the tongue but in her case she just may not be smart enough. While Bachmann said she was not blaming Carter or Obama for the outbrakes, she just thought it was interesting that they were both Democrats. Here is what Bachmann told "PajamaTV Today":I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out then under Democrat President Jimmy Carter. And I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it is an interesting coincidence.I would not find it the least... More About: Person
Arlen Specter Welcomed Into Democratic Party
2009-04-28 23:42:00 Pennsylvanian Republican Senator Arlen Specter will run for reelection as a Democrat in 2010. Specter's vote for the Obama stimulus package was the final straw to fiscal conservatives essential to winning the Republican primary in Pennsylvania. Senator Specter received "bleak polling" numbers from advisers he said Tuesday. Polls showed that he would likely loose a Republican primary to Pat Toomey. Specter barely survived a primary fight in 2004 against Toomey. A second run against Toomey in the primary would not be in Specter's best interests.Specter told the media that Pennsylvania Democratic Governor Ed Rendell promised Specter he would not need to raise money if he ran as a Democrat. Democrats were silently ecstatic on Tuesday. Jumping on the inside Democratic Leader Harry Reid said now was "not the time to gloat."RNC Leader Michael Steele of course called Specter's move one of personal career protection and not of personal beliefs. Obama Shakes Hands With Hugo Chavez: Why Does He Hate America?
2009-04-23 09:05:00 President Barack Obama recently shook hands with Venezuelan socialist leader Hugo Chavez while on a Latin America n, "anti-America" trip. As leader of America President Obama has shown nothing but disdain for the country he leads. This is what many Fox News journalists and some conservatives might want you to believe. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was called before the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday. Clinton was grilled with a series of dooms day questions from Congressman Mike Pence (R-Indiana) about President Obama's recent association with Chavez. If you were unaware of the truth of the situation, Pence's questions could be depressing and scary. Secretary Clinton managed to debunk this argument skillfully and with intellectual force. The Secretary of State pointed to the previous 8 years under President Bush where the United States had isolated Venezuela with no results. "I respectfully say we spent the last 8 years trying to isolate Chavez an... More About: Hate , Hands
Pat Robertson Is Still On TV?
2009-04-18 08:12:00 A recent Department of Homeland Security (DHS) report found that the election of President Obama may be leading to an increase in "right wing extremists". Conservatives immediately dismissed the report as an attack on "tea bagging parties" and conservatives everywhere. Pat Robertson had this completely baseless and insensitive attack to add on the matter: It shows somebody down in the bowels of that organization is either a convinced left winger or somebody whose sexual orientation is somewhat in question. But it’s that kind of thing, somebody who doesn’t think that we should have abortion on demand, is labeled a terrorist! It’s outrageous!I think it is important to note that the report was requested by the DHS under the leadership of President Bush, not Obama. The report noted the increase demand for firearms because of a perceived fear that President Obama would restrict gun use. Three police officers were shot and killed by a man in Philadelphia after he became so p...
Height Of Subjectivity: Fox News Promotion Of Tea Bag Parties
2009-04-16 08:03:00 Media Matters has put together a good series of clips that shows the clear cut partiality of Fox News "coverage" of the "Taxed. Enough. Already." protests. Fox News will practically give you directions to your local protest so you can join and they can cover it. Just go to their website! You can find out where you can protest the "high" tax on the wealthiest of Americans. Unless you are that wealthy I would not waste your time. "Fight the fascism" one Fox News journalist said. Another reporter declared there were millions of protesters, "I hope millions" he added. A middle-class paying only 3 percent in taxes may be fascism to some people. To others it is too low, fair, and factually the lowest it has been in 3 decades. A Gallup poll found that the majority of Americans believe they are taxed fairly or not enough. Tax Day Over, Tea Bagging Will Continue
2009-04-16 07:58:00 Tax day, April 15th marked yet another series of "tea party" protests. Several cities throughout America held protests over "high" taxes and too much debt. "Taxed. Enough. Already." was the rallying cry of the vastly white populations of protesters crying out for Obama to stop spending like the previous administration did. As anti-tax protests turned into mostly anti-Obama rallies, the Washington Post wrote Wednesday that new data shows Americans are being taxed at the lowest tax rates in over three decades. All but the wealthiest of Americans that is. Middle class families under Obama are paying only 3 percent in taxes compared to 8.3 percent under President Reagan. A Gallup poll found that the majority of Americans are happy with the amount of tax they pay or think that they actually pay too little in taxes. Would that be the perception you get from watching the media the past couple of weeks? As Glen Beck and the entire Fox News family endorses the "tea bagging" parties th...
Jon Stewart Tells Republicans To "Pace Your Rage"
2009-04-09 06:16:00 Jon Stewart Tells Republicans To "Pace Your Rage " During an episode of "The Daily Show" Tuesday night, Jon Stewart took on the right wing extremist who are terrified of President Obama. Michele Bachmann, Glen Beck, and Sean Hannity of course topped the list. Bachmann is currently waging war against President Obama's "Serve America Act." Bachmann claims that "The Serve America Act" will lead to re-education camps and mandatory voluntarism. Stewart played a clip of Bachmann's appearance with Sean Hannity of Fox News in which he praised her in her war against tyranny. Tyranny? Offering incentives for volunteering? Stewart pointed out that some Republicans seem to be confusing losing (elections) with tyranny. The war in Iraq, domestic spying, states rights, and government transparency are all examples Stewart listed to compare what liberals had to deal with during the Bush adminstration. The sad part here, Republicans have only been out of the White House for 10 we... More About: Jon Stewart
Michele Who?
2009-04-07 09:04:00 I suppose sputtering off nonsensical rants and making ridiculous accusations is one way for a member of congress to become "known" and to get attention. Michele Bachmann started coming out of the woodwork in 2008 when she called for members of congress to be investigated for "anti-American bias".Bachmann has only served in the U.S. House since 2006 but she has continuely out shown her colleagues in being able to love her country. I consider myself a political novice of sorts but it is difficult to know each and every one of the 535 prima donnas that serve in the United States Congress. When I came across Michele Bachmann I wondered why I had never even heard of her until just recently and I wondered why she was so angry.Just over the past few months she has made several shocking comments and has managed to poorly represent her own district. Bachmann recently voted against all but one measure of the foreclosure relief plan while her district continues to suffer larger than av...
President Bush Gets Standing Ovation At Rangers Game
2009-04-07 07:42:00 Former President George W. Bush threw out the first pitch at the season opener for the Texas Rangers on Monday. The former president was greeted with a standing ovation in his home state of Texas. A year ago then President Bush threw out the first pitch at the Washington Nationals game in Washington DC. That game he received a much different reaction from the crowd. The District of Columbia's baseball fans gave the president a thunderous echo of boos. As usual the former president took to the mound and threw a solid pitch with seemingly little effort. No one can deny that the former president has a good arm. The Rangers announcers said, "He threw a strike!" More About: Game

2009-03-27 05:28:00 On Tuesday night President Obama gave his second press conference from the East Room of the White House. President Obama also subjected himself to questions from the White House press corps.40 million Americans tuned in to watch and listen to what the president had to say. President Obama made his case to Americans for the passage of his $3.6 trillion dollar budget. Obama also expressed his outrage over the bonuses given out by AIG which received TARP money from the government. President Obama expressed hope for the future of our economy but that it will indeed take time to fully turn around. The president used more than a few opportunities to stress important items of his budget and how it will help to rebuild our economy. Outrage Over Veterans Health Care Proposal
2009-03-19 07:01:00 A recent Obama administration proposal seeks to save money by cutting health care from veterans whom already have private insurance. Is this one of the best ways we have to save money? Democrats on Capital Hill issued a letter to President Obama to express their distaste for the proposal. As the AIG outrage over shadows most more important and substantial news, issues such as this fall to the waste side. President Obama is right of course to try and save the government money where he can however it should not come at the expense of those that serve our country. Veterans relying on their private insurance may not always be an adequate way to cover the needs of service injuries. As we saw in the Walter Reed Army Medical Center case extremely poor treatment was given to some of our veterans. To allow any veteran to receive such poor treatment after returning from duty is unacceptable and we cannot allow it to happen again. With increasingly common PTSD cases and lo... Former President Bush Wants Obama To Succeed
2009-03-19 05:32:00 On Tuesday, former President George W. Bush gave a contrasting opinion to current Republican leader Rush Limbaugh by saying that he hopes President Obama succeeds. “He was not my first choice for president, but, when he won, I thought it was good for the United States of America,” Bush said.“I want the President to succeed. I love my country a lot more than I love politics. I’m not going to spend my time criticizing him. There are plenty of critics in that arena,” former President Bush added. [Obama] deserves my silence and if he wants my help he can pick up the phone and call me. I think it is essential that he be helped in office,” Bush added.Several Republicans have echoed Rush Limbaugh's opinion that an Obama failure would be good for the country and their party. Bush's words show intelligence and forethought that was usually lacking during the Bush administration. President Bush out of office no longer has to depend on fellow Republicans or the Rep...

John Stewart VS. CNBC: Cramer Appears On Daily Show
2009-03-13 07:58:00 The battle between Jim Cramer of CNBC's "Mad Money" and Jon Stewart of "The Daily Show " came to an end on Thursday night. Jim Cramer accepted Jon Stewart's challenge to appear on his show to talk about why Stewart is so angry with CNBC. Over the past two weeks or so Stewart has attacked the poor judgment of CNBC's financial experts in not seeing the current stock market failures before it was too late. It all began when CNBC's Rick Santelli canceled his appearance on "The Daily Show ". Stewart aired an 8 minute long eviserating piece on CNBC's terrible coverage of troubled economic times and for not being able to predict any of it being the experts that they are. Stewart claims the piece would have aired if Santelli had appeared or not. One clip from the 8 minute long beat down featured Jim Cramer claiming that Bear Stearns was fine and that he still believed in the "Bear franchise". Bear Stearns of course collapsed at $2 dollars a share weeks later. Cramer ... More About: John Stewart , John

The campaign was ?desperate? for Obama?s endorsement and Lieberman?s staff ?practically begged? him to come to Connecticut, according to TPM. ?We needed him to strongly validate us as a candidate that liberal Democrats should not desert. Obama Leads McCain After Clinton Endorsement
2008-06-10 08:51:00 Barack Obama made gains over John McCain according to the latest presidential polling. Rasmussen and Gallup polling data from June 6 through June 8 showed a sizable bump for Obama after officially clinching the Democratic nomination. Barack Obama became the presumptive Democratic nominee last Tuesday after picking up superdelegates endorsements and pledged delegates from South Dakota and Montana. Senator Clinton met with Democratic leaders on Wednesday and later announced her intentions to withdrawal from the race and endorse Obama. With the Democratic nomination locked up and Senator Clinton endorsing Obama, Obama had a week of publicity following this major victory. According a Rasmussen poll, Obama picked up 4 points and McCain lost 2 points from the previous week. The six point swing gives Obama a 50 percent to 44 percent lead. The previous Rasmussen poll showed a dead tie between Obama and McCain. Gallup polling data showed a slightly larger swing fo... Hillary Clinton Makes Gracious Exit From Campaign, Endorses Obama
2008-06-08 07:09:00 On Saturday afternoon, Senator Hillary Clinton gave what had to be the most difficult speech of her career. Clinton?s speech before thousands of people packed into the National Building Museum in Washington, DC, marked the official end of her campaign. Clinton announced that she would be suspending her campaign and pledging her full support to Senator Barack Obama . After 16 months of hard fought campaigning, Clinton told the crowd at the beginning of her speech, ?This isn't exactly the party I'd planned.? Clinton found a message in Saturday?s speech that may have helped her earlier in the campaign. Clinton spoke of the glass ceiling that her 18 million supporters helped to chip away at and said she will keep fighting for them. Clinton said, ?[today] the 50th woman to leave this Earth is orbiting overhead. If we can blast 50 women into space, we will someday launch a woman into the White House.? ?Although we weren't able to shatter that highest, har... More About: Bill Clinton , Tube

2008-06-04 05:05:00 Tuesday night, Barack Obama clinched the Democratic nomination for president to become the first African American presidential nominee from a major party. McCain?s personal attack on a candidate by name was a first for the AIPAC conference and took many of the people there by surprise. The crowd sounded somewhat receptive to his words, cheering loudly at the comments on Iran which has threatened to destroy Israel. McCain tried to pin Obama as too soft on Iran and told the crowd that his position on the measure to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist state, was the wrong one to have. ?We hear talk of a meeting with the Iranian leadership offered up as if it were some sudden inspiration, a bold new idea that somehow nobody has ever thought of before.
