2008-04-17 16:36:00
Check out our video library at Political Realm TV.Hillary Clinton The Clinton campaign has produced its second Indiana ad, "Closed." The ad focuses on creating jobs in Indiana and across the country. The pro-Clinton American Leadership Project, which had previously run ads in Ohio and Texas, is airing a new ad in Pennsylvania. "Every" compares the health care plans of Clinton and Obama and suggests that Obama's plan leaves millions without coverage. Barack Obama Obama pushes back against a Clinton attack in his latest ad, "Dime." The ad accuses Hillary Clinton of using the "same old politics" and of running "misleading, negative ads." Clinton ran an ad noting Obama had received contributions from oil company employees (true) after Obama had run an ad suggesting he didn't take money from oil companies or their lobbyists (also true). The SEIU, which has endorsed Obama, is airing a new ad in Pennsylvania, "Change." The ad features voters at the gas pump noting that Obama doesn't take...

Ad Wars: Clinton Hits Obama On Energy
2008-04-16 16:24:00
Check out our video library at Political Realm TV.Hillary Clinton Just a day after attacking Obama's "bitter" remarks in a Pennsylvania ad, the Clinton campaign is on the offensive again, this time attacking Obama on energy. "Pocket" echoes a radio ad that has been running in the state for a while. The ad challenges an earlier Obama ad in which he claimed not to take money from the oil companies. The ad points out that while he doesn't accept money from the oil companies, that would be against the law, he has accepted thousands from oil employees (something Clinton has done as well). It also attacks Obama for voting in favor of the Bush Administration's energy bill.John McCainFriends of the Earth Action, an environmental group, is running a new ad, "Trillions More," which attacks John McCain. The ad accuses McCain of sending pork barrel money to corporate polluters. Barack Obama The Obama campaign has produced a new web ad, "Guide," which looks at the influence of lobbyists in...

"Represent" features footage of a crowd jeering Clinton as she attacked Obama yesterday in Pennsylvania, while going on to call the attacks the "same old Washington politics." It's an effective response to an overblown controversy.

The Bitter Aftertaste
2008-04-15 20:01:00
The hypersensitivity of this campaign season is getting old. Virtually every week a candidate or campaign staffer says something that is marginally "offensive" to someone. One side feigns outrage, while the other delivers the requisite apologies. These kind of "controversies" are a ridiculous waste of time--this "bitter" situation being the latest example. Some people are bitter, not just in small towns, but all across the country--people who have lost their jobs, their homes. People who watch their bosses get million dollar pensions or see corporate bail-outs as they struggle to maintain the status quo for their families are probably bitter. Recent polls show an overwhelming majority of Americans think the country is heading on the wrong track. While the comments were perhaps somewhat insensitive to the particulars of the situation, they are not wholly out of touch with reality. We've seen a parade of citizens over the past few days proclaiming they are not bitter, but the truth ...

Buy Or Sell: Condoleezza Rice As Veep
2008-04-09 19:18:00
The ArgumentSecretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be John McCain's running mate on the Republican ticket in November. Though the subject of mild speculation for weeks, the story's intensity was ramped up this weekend when former Bush Administration official Dan Senor stoked the flames on ABC's This Week saying, "Condi Rice has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this."Buy: An Intriguing PickRice is certainly an intriguing pick. She has a strong group of support, including conservative activist Grover Norquist, inside the Beltway--the same people who floated the idea that she would run for president a year ago--who will continue to push her to McCain's camp. With the Democrats poised to nominate a historic candidate in either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama, Rice would provide Republicans with something of a counterbalance in that regard. Some Republicans, no doubt, would hope Rice could help them cut into two key Democratic voting groups--women and bl...

Ad Wars: It's 3 AM Again
2008-04-04 06:29:00
Check out our video library at Political Realm TV.Hillary Clinton The Clinton team released yet another 3 AM ad this week, this time taking aim at Republican John McCain . "Ringing" suggests McCain isn't prepared to handle the economic crisis facing the next president. Considering the 3 AM thing has become so cliche, the ad isn't particularly compelling or effective. Clinton also released her first ad in North Carolina today, "NC Ask Me." She begins the ad by telling viewers, "If you're looking for a typical commercial, switch the channel." Clinton goes on to ask voters to share their concerns with her, inviting them to visit her website. State Representative Donna Stone declined a bid, citing the difficulty in facing one of two well funded and well known Democrats. Retired judge Bill Lee, who garnered 45% of the vote against Minner in 2004, passed on a rematch. Businessman Alan Levin, who spent months testing the water, announced in January that he would not run and longtime House Speaker Terry Spence also confirmed he would not seek the office. Buy Or Sell: Obama's Coattails
2008-04-01 19:37:00
[Editor's note: Buy or Sell is a new feature that examines the conventional wisdom emerging from the headlines of the day.]The ArgumentDown ballot Republicans would prefer Barack Obama over Hillary Clinton at the top of the Democratic ballot in November. National Republican Campaign Committee head Tom Cole said in this weekend's New York Times Magazine:I happen to think Hillary Clinton is a stronger candidate in the end. You couldn't raise money against Obama right away like you could with Clinton, that's true, and so maybe by the time you were able to raise money it wouldn't matter. But he's ideologically well to the left of Hillary Clinton, for all his rhetorical gifts, and I also think he's got a national-security deficit. I think she's a plausible commander in chief, and I don't think he is.Buy: The Most Liberal Member of the SenateThe case Republicans are going to lay out against Obama seems clear.
