Endorsement: Texas Populist Jim Hightower Endorses Sen. Barack Obama
2008-02-15 07:49:00
http://digg.com/2008_us_elections/Texan_p opulist_Jim_Hightower_endorses_Barack _Oba ma"Before he was America's best-known populist, author and activist Jim Hightower was the Agriculture Commissioner for the state of Texas . In that capacity, he rewrote the political playbook and made a relatively low-profile statewide post into a bully pulpit for taking on the corporate special interests that warped Texas government and his own party. The Austin-based populist will be campaigning in Texas for Barack Obama . And it will mean something, since Hightower has not forgotten what he learned about the political landscape by winning two statewide elections in the 1980s and serving as an essential player on more than a few campaigns since then. Texas is supposed to be Hillary Clinton country. She's got what are referred to as "demographic advantages." Further Analysis of Texas Delegates--Does Sen. Obama or Sen. Clinton Benefi
2008-02-14 08:01:00
I didn't know this - something to keep in mind: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/14/us/poli tics/14delegates.html Obama 's Lead in Delegates Shifts Focus of Campaign By Adam Nagourney Published: February 14, 2008 In Texas , Mr. Penn said Mrs. Clinton would be helped by the Latino vote -- which he said could ultimately be as much as 40 percent of the electorate. But Mrs. Clinton faces another problem there in the form of that state's unusual delegation allocation rules. Delegates are allocated to state senatorial districts based on Democratic voter turn-out in the last election. Bruce Buchanan, a professor of political science at the University of Texas at Austin, noted that in the last election, turnout was low in predominantly Hispanic districts and unusually high in urban African-American districts. That means more delegates will be available in districts that, based on the results so far, could be expected to go heavily for Mr. Obama. Mrs. Clinton, Dr. Buchanan said, "has got her ...

Is Sen. Hillary Clinton Done in this Election?
2008-02-14 07:57:00
There was a lot of talk this morning on "Fox and Friends" regarding how this election is virtually over for Sen. Hillary Clinton .  Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know it's way too early also! But, unless Sen. Barack Obama loses steam and breaks this win-streak of consecutive wins over Sen. Clinton, it just may be inevitable.  Sen. Clinton will have the states of Ohio and Texas to keep her in the race, but will take a mammoth effort to now trump Sen. Obama.Frankly, I think it's foolish to call this primary election and say either candidate doesn't have an opportunity.  So long as Fox News feels the need to tinker with the idea though, I may as well blog on it.  Sounds good to me to call the primary election...go Obama!

Hillary Rodham Clinton , despite the sharp criticism he leveled at her on the campaign trail, according to former aides and advisers," ABC News reports: In deciding between his one-time rivals, Edwards appears deeply divided. Several former advisers likened his thought process to a heart-versus-head split -- with his heart favoring Sen. Barack Obama 's strong message of change, and his head attracted to Clinton's tested nature and commitment to tough fights. Though he sometimes aligned himself with Obama -- and against Clinton -- as a candidate, several Edwards campaign insiders say the former senator began to sour on Obama toward the end of his own campaign, and ultimately left the race questioning whether Obama had the toughness needed to prevail in a presidential race. Congressman Ron Paul Will Not Run as Independent Candidate
2008-02-10 12:41:00
The Associated Press reports that Congressman Ron Paul shared with CPAC members that he will not run as a 3rd party, independent candidate in the general election. HOUSTON - Presidential hopeful Ron Paul said he will not run as a third-party candidate in a new message to supporters that seems to recognize his slim chances at getting the Republican nomination. The Texas congressman wrote on his Web site Friday that he is making cuts to his national campaign staff and that he must also stay focused on not losing the primary for his House seat. Paul began Saturday with just 14 delegates for the Republican nomination that John McCain, with 719 delegates, has all but officially secured. Mitt Romney dropped out of the race Thursday, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee has 198 delegates. A total of 1,191 delegates are needed to secure the GOP nomination.

Chalk Up another GOP Victory for Gov. Mike Huckabee in Kansas
2008-02-09 19:14:00
Kansas voters turned-out in strong numbers to participate in the Republican caucus today, ending with an overwhelming victory for Gov. Mike Huckabee over Sen. John McCain. The Kansas City Star reports: With all votes counted, Huckabee had 11,627 votes, or 60 percent, to McCain?s 4,587, or 24 percent. Texas Congressman Ron Paul had 2,182, or 11 percent. This is yet another indicator that Republican backers are not impressed or happy with the present-leading candidate, Sen. McCain.  There are a great many that just don't feel McCain represents their conservative views. GOP chairman Kris Kobach said the meaning of the results was clear: ?John McCain has a lot of work to do to get the Republican Party solidly behind him.?

Sen. Hillary Clinton's Super Tuesday Popular Vote "Sham"
2008-02-09 12:13:00
http://www.observer.com/2008/popular-vote -count-excludes-caucuses Hillary 's Clinton's microscopic victory in the combined popular votefrom last night's primary--7,347,971 to 7,294,85--fails to take intoaccount the caucuses that were held in Colorado, Minnesota, Kansas,Idaho, North Dakota and Alaska. All of those contests werewon--overwhelmingly--by Barack Obama. Under Democratic rules, each vote isn't tallied at caucuses. Thecaucuses serve only to award delegates to go to a state convention(which then elects the national delegates). The results from caucusstates reflect the number of convention delegates to the stateconvention won by each candidate. So while Hillary Clinton eked past Obama in the popular vote on Super Tuesday , it can also be said that more people who participated inSuper Tuesday 2008 favored Obama than Clinton.
