I remember Norman Mailer
2007-11-12 22:32:00 norman-mailer-ripOriginally uploaded by jarvic7.In 1969 Norman Mailer was running in the Democratic Party primary for Mayor of New York City along with columnist Jimmy Breslin who was trying for City Council President. Despite the fact that I did not agree with Mailer's anti-war views I invited him and Breslin to come speak at Wagner College in Staten Island. I was very heavy into Ayn Rand and I fancied it would be fun to spar with him. Although I thought I had some very strong intellectual arguments against some of his leftist positions, what I didn't count on was that Mailer had great routines at evading thrusts for which he did not have handy cogent replies. Sometimes those with a greater repertoire of evasive skills can dominate an argument. It wasn't until years later that I recognized some of those leftist routines: Liberals yell Islamophobe or racist when they have no good answer in regard to Islamic terror. As a digression, I should mention that Mark Rudd, who ... More About: Norman Mailer
Leaving Las Vegas
2007-11-10 21:34:00 mark cuban @ blogworld expoOriginally uploaded by mil8. I'm heading back home from Blogworld Expo. I would like to tell you what happened here but you know what they say about Las Vegas ... Only kidding. I will be adding some really fabulous features when I get back starting Sunday. One particular highlight of this trip was meeting and talking with Mark Cuban. I should mention that I always thought he was about 5' 10" but unless I am mistaken he is 6' 3". I suppose that we always see him with his players makes him look shorter. He told me he lost 30 pounds as he poked my potbelly (the curse of blogging too much). I really need to exercise more. Mark had some great insights into Youtube and their problem with user uploaded content. He noted that Youtube has no porn, so they could, if they wanted to, also filter copyrighted material being uploaded. He said Youtube's fears that users will not tolerate waiting a day for their content to be approved is overblown. ... More About: Leaving
Nothing Wrong with Banning wearing of Hijab

If this country asked Muslims to eat pork - I would stand up for their rights because it is compulsory in Islam to avoid the eating of pork. If this country asked Muslims to drink alcohol - I would stand up for their rights because it is compulsory in Islam to avoid the drinking of alcohol. If we asked Muslims to pray to Jesus - I would stand up for their rights because it is compulsory in Islam to pray only to Allah because God does not beget nor is he begotten. Warren Buffet is an Idiot
2007-11-06 22:36:00 Sometimes a person can be so wealthy that he loses touch with the common man. According to popular myth, Marie Antoinette was so divorced from the plight of the peasants that hearing they had no bread to eat, suggested "qu’ils mangent de la brioche" ("Let them eat cake"). Warren Buffet , fluctuating between being the second or third richest man in America, has informed us that he (and by extension, every rich person) pays too little in income taxes in terms of percentage. As for proof, he confessed that his effective tax rate is 17.7%. Then taking 15 volunteers from his office personnel in Omaha, Nebraska calculated that not one had an effective tax rate below 32.9%. Of course, this is all smoke and mirrors. Mr. Buffett pays exactly the same rate on the first $102,000 of income as do his employees. Since FICA taxes stop at that point, anyone making more than that amount will have a lower tax rate. Should rich people continue paying the FICA tax on the rest of their income ju... 2007-11-04 19:08:00 A short story with pictures from the internet: Bubba meets the girl of his dreams, his first cousin Emmy Lou. Later that night, he romances her under special mood lighting. A week or so later, Bubba realizes this relationship is getting serious. He makes reservations for a Valentine's Day dinner. PETA Barely Protests
2007-08-28 16:40:00 I have to tell you I'm a little disappointed with PETA's latest protest, "I'd Rather Go Naked Than Wear Fur" in Hollywood - August 20, 2007. Speak plainly; if you mean you'd rather go barely naked than wear fur, say that. But what's the point of a bare-assed lie? Or nearly bare, that is. When I was younger people had the courage of their convictions. Today, spoiled brats like Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan get convictions without any courage involved at all. What a shabby, pusillanimous lot of young people there are today. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays I host Open Trackback parties. This allows bloggers who have interesting posts to share them with my readers and therefore, presumably, a wider audience. My normal rules for linking, Bernie's 8 Rules, are suspended. That is, there is no set topic and as long as the post is not a splog entry, you can link whatever you like especially if it is offensive to Islam. FOKO and the Burning Forests of Madagascar
2007-08-27 18:36:00 Before I tell you what FOKO is, let me take you through the dynamics of Slash and Burn . In the US and much of Europe managed timber lands has led to the increased forest cover in those countries, see Liberals Cannot See the Trees for the Fore sts and as I explained in Muslims largest Cause of Global Warming I am not one of those who believe that we are in danger of a cataclysmic Global Warming which will doom the Earth. On the other hand, I do believe that destroying rain forests raises the level of CO2 which will be problematic long term. That is to say the problem with Global Warming, to the extent that there is any, is not a problem with what the United States is doing, but rather on what much of the under-developed world is doing, mainly in the destruction of forests in their part of the world. Ignorance and bountiful fecundity are the biggest contributors to slash and burn in the world today: Through ignorance, deforestation occurs because of primitive timber exploit... When Castro Dies comes the real revolution
2007-08-27 03:34:00 Although I expected the Berlin Wall to fall sooner or later, I was surprised when it did. Although I expect Fidel Castro to die sooner or later, I will be surprised when he does, given all the false rumors of his previous deaths. When Castro finally does die though, that will not be the end, but the beginning of a revolution. Very few people know this but before Castro liberated Cuba from foreign exploitation it was an economic powerhouse with an economy stronger than half of the countries in Europe at the time. It only became a banana republic after Communism. Presently, Hawaii has a bigger tourist industry than all of Mexico combined and I expect that Cuba, once liberated from Castro's clutches, can do even more business given the island's proximity to the US. What surprised me all my life was why the US tolerated Castro at all. After all we have invaded countries before that never attacked us, Germany in World War Two, Korea in the early 50s, and Vietnam in the 60s. Thi... More About: Revolution , Real , Dies
Women who smell bad
2007-08-26 05:10:00 Back in June 1967, less than a week after the 6 Day War in Israel, I left for Paris to study French at the Alliance Francaise, Sorbonne. The classes were all-day affairs and brutally difficult so when I saw the poster for the new James Bond movie You Only Live Twice, I rushed to the theater to see it. I was a heavy James Bond fan in the 60s, I even combed my hair like him, see my photo in this article. (BTW, click on poster to see the French version, and yes, it's safe for work) Parisian theaters in those days would show filmed advertisements shortly before the main feature. One of those ads was for a female underarm deodorant. As I remember the ad, a woman is standing in a bus hanging on a strap with her underarm just above a poor fellow's head. Squiggly odor waves cascade over this guy and he takes out the underarm deodorant and sprays it on the woman's armpit hairs. The audience laughed at this; deodorants were rather a novel thing in Paris in those days. I suppose they wonde... More About: Women , Smell

Sonia worked for much of her life in her father's bar and although she never smoked herself, she breathed others' smoke. I suppose Sonia will be classified as a non-smoker who died of lung cancer although that would not be quite accurate. I am opposed to the government passing laws to protect idiots who want to injure themselves. That is, if you want to smoke it should be legal, just not around other people. New Jersey's ban on smoking in bars and restaurants was the subject of post number 2 of this blog. If your smoke didn't impact my health directly I would care less. The problem with having a bad reputation is that you get blamed for perfectly innocent acts and I had a very, very bad reputation. One of the things I enjoyed doing at that time was skipping rope and there were only two sets of skip rope available during recess. Unfortunately there came a time when a selfish little girl monopolized one of the skip ropes and wouldn't give it to me when I thought she had skipped enough during the period. When she refused my request I tried to wrestle it out of her hands which were now hidden behind her and I had to circle my arms completely around her waist to get to the rope when she started screaming for me to let her go. Mr. Wangler witnessed this event and, grabbing me tightly by the arm, dragged me to his office. He closed the door and said that what I did was a very, very bad t... 2007-08-21 18:38:00 100_0827Originally uploaded by conradhofmeyr.First you have to read the story: Ananova, Robb ers snatch dog pooA Chinese woman has told how robbers snatched a parcel of dog poo wrapped in newspaper out of her hand outside a bank. So I asked for several pieces of newspaper to wrap the poo," she said. After wrapping it, Chen left the bank, and was waiting to cross the street to throw the parcel into a rubbish bin when the robber struck. Because that is how my parents did it
2007-08-21 06:06:00 Crazy CribOriginally uploaded by anastasiav. If you ever want to give a stupid reason for doing something, say "Because that is how my parents did it." I bring this up because I was recently asked by a young woman for advice on buying a crib for a baby she and her husband are expecting. Well, I thought that was a barbaric practice and so I asked her why she didn't want the baby in bed with her, the natural way, as most of the world does it. She gave me the stupid reason: that's how her parents did it. I told her that her parents were idiots, nothing personal, but the safest way for a baby to sleep is in bed with her mother and father. A child is 50 to 60 times more likely to die in a crib than in a bed with its parents: AskDrSears, SLEEPING SAFELY WITH YOUR BABY... in most countries around the world sleeping with your baby is the norm, not the exception. The Flower of the Fence
2007-08-18 12:32:00 My attorney friend B.W., emailed me this amazing story yesterday: "The Flow er of the Fence " August, 1942. Piotrkow, Poland. The sky was gloomy that morning as we waited anxiously. All the men, women and children of Piotrkow's Jewish ghetto had been herded into a square. Word had gotten around that we were being moved. My father had only recently died from typhus, which had run rampant through the crowded ghetto. My greatest fear was that our family would be separated. "Whatever you do," Isidore, my eldest brother, whispered to me, "don't tell them your age. Say you're sixteen". I was tall for a boy of 11, so I could pull it off. That way I might be deemed valuable as a worker. An SS man approached me, boots clicking against the cobblestones. He looked me up and down, then asked my age. "Sixteen," I said. He directed me to the left, where my three brothers and other healthy young men already stood. My mother was motioned to the right with the other women, childr...

Mahvash Sepehr told FNA that the camera works with color waves and their reactions and it can determine the distance automatically. "Using this camera, blind people can recognize the distance and position of the subject, " she said, adding that she has also invented special tanks for the blind to develop their negatives. "Once the film is developed, the tank starts ringing to warn the blind person that it is time to bring the negative out of the liquid," the Iranian inventor concluded. 2007-07-10 04:22:00 Brandenburg Gate, Berlin - IIOriginally uploaded by 2composers. I was 12 years old and we loved to play war. I would be the Americans and Tommy Pietrak would be the Nazis and we would alternate who was the enemy. It was the Summer of 1957 and there was no shortage of war movies from Hollywood to use as fodder for our games. We even bought tiny Nazi and US flags to drape over lampshades for better effect. My father rarely came home during the daytime, he was always working in his ladies shop so he never knew we played Nazis and GI's. Except for one time. I don't recall why he came home that afternoon, but the moment he spotted the Nazi flag, he viciously yanked it off the lamp and threw it on the ground and started stomping on it all the while yelling words in Yiddish I never heard before. Then he came for me. Now my father was from old school - if your kid did something wrong, he would get spanked with a leather strap and hard. I normally got strapped about every week o... Why Young People are not educated
2007-07-09 04:25:00 the flyOriginally uploaded by icky_twerp.We see Jay Leno do it often: he asks young Americans if they know who Winston Churchill is or to name one Supreme Court Judge or if they know where Italy is. It's embarrassing to watch our youth display zero knowledge about history, geography, government, math or even basic literature. At first I thought it was the fault of mass fluoridation of water that lowered the I.Q. of every American born after 1976. But I came across the video below that finally explains why so many young kids today are left-wing liberal idiots. Before I explain, a little background: The human brain contains 100 billion neurons where each neuron can connect to 10,000 other neurons. It is this interconnection that gives us intelligence. TT 13 Reasons Turkey is not in the EU

For example, The European Parliament back in 2004 reported that Turkey is not yet ready to start EU membership talks because of continued influence of the army in politics, the continuing torture practices and the discrimination of religious minorities. On 1 Apr 2007, the EU Parliament concluded that Turkey still does not yet meet the Copenhagen political criteria for EU membership. The 45-year-old booted one of the suspects, whose body was covered in flames, as hard as he could between the legs. But the man didn't appear to feel the blow, and a police doctor told Alex later that he'd damaged a tendon in his foot. After the drama, police confiscated Alex's trainers for forensic tests.
