Cleary University To Host Coulter
2007-03-18 06:17:00
Cleary Univ ersity to host Ann Coulter October 1.  Now I am not one who would ever want to try and impede someone’s First Amendment Rights, but I really do think its in poor taste for the university not to cancel this event.  She has already been dropped from 9 newspapers for her infamous “faggot” remark.

AFA has a good Point
2007-03-13 04:13:00
As much as it pains me to somewhat agree with the American Family Association (AFA), I’m afraid that Gary Glenn, president of the AFA of Michigan has a point. Why is it that people who should be sympatheic to our struggle are against us? Black community doesn’t support same-sex unions In “Gay rights fight ...

Michigan Appellate Court Rejects Partner Benefits
2007-02-04 22:53:03
The Mich igan Appellate Court has ruled that cities and public universities can not offer partner benefits based on the Marriage Ammendment passed in 2004. Michigan Equality released a statement: Michigan Equality is sickened by the ruling of the Michigan Appellate Court denying domestic partnership benefits to state employees, citing the passage of 2004?s Proposal 2 as their reason. ?The marriage amendment’s plain language prohibits public employers from recognizing same-sex unions for any purpose,? wrote the Court of Appeals referring to the wording of the amendment banning gay marriage ?or similar union for any purpose.? Although the vast majority of Michigan residents view equality in the workplace and in basic health and welfare benefits as a right for all Michigan residents, these benefits were still denied earlier today. Consequently we feel that there must be vast differences between the Court of Appeals and reality in general. ?It?s very telling that the co...

My Uncle Died
2007-02-04 22:53:03
This has nothing to do with LGBT issues.  But It has a lot to do with me, and I feel it right to honor this person, and his life in some manner.  This person is my uncle, and he died Friday night.  He had been suffering for a couple of years with his many ailments.  I wasn’t close to him, but I can’t say I won’t miss him.   I don’t know what better way to extend his memory then to send it into the blogosphere, which seems to keep memories a live much longer then people do.  So to you Jerry, beloved father, husband, brother, son, uncle - and many other titles, I say this, you will be missed, but not forgotten.

Discrimination In Michigan Housing
2007-02-01 04:50:06
The Detroit News is reporting a study done in here in Michigan showing discrimination against gay people in housing. Gays and lesbians trying to find housing in Michigan regularly encounter discrimination, according to the findings of a study released today. The wide-ranging study, conducted by Michigan’s Fair Housing Centers, used actors posing as gay and straight couples and found evidence of discrimination in more than a quarter of the 120 tests they did from Detroit to Grand Rapids. h/t: Towleroad

Ann Arbor Schools and Partner Benefits
2007-01-13 04:39:01
The Ann Arbor School s is once again in court for it’s same-sex benefits policy. A lawsuit challenging the Ann Arbor school district’s same-sex benefits policy was back in the state Supreme Court Thursday. But the justices didn’t focus on the constitutionality of providing health insurance and other benefits to workers’ gay partners. The case involves whether taxpayers followed the proper procedure to stop Ann Arbor Public Schools from offering benefits to gay couples. The state appeals court dismissed the case and ruled the taxpayers didn’t “demand” that the district stop providing the benefits to gay partners before filing suit. The appeals court heard arguments over the constitutionality of same-sex benefits in April and could rule in that case soon.
