I Can?t Believe I Am Supporting Governor Granholm

As much as I do not care for our current governor, Jennifer Granholm (D), I can not bring myself to support Dick DeVos (R). Gov. Granholm has not exactly been the best friend the Michigan LGBT community has had, but at least she did not support Proposal 2. According to Between the Lines, the DeVos family gave $125,000 to pass Proposal 2, which wrote discrimination against LGBT-headed families into Michigan’s constitution. The article further states that the DeVos family also contributes to our good friends the Family Research Council and Focus on the Family. The Michigan Log Cabin Republicans are not endorsing Dick DeVos. Slavery Reparations

The Associated Press (AP) is reporting that slavery reparations are “gaining momentum.” For the life of me I can not understand how the paying of reparations to a group of people who were neither bought nor sold as slaves themselves is ever going to be carried out. When the United States paid reparations to the Japanese who were placed into camps during World War II, it was paid to those who were actually interned in those camps. The last African slave reportedly died in 1979 at 137 years old. So who exactly would the reparations be paid to? I think the whole idea of reparations for slavery is a bad one. Where does it end? Everyone’s (for the most part) ancestors at some point in history were treated in humanely. My Scottish fore bearers were stripped of their property, placed on ships and spread across the globe by the English. But I do not believe I am owed reparations.

Gay Friendly Republican Vandalized

The Log Cabin Republican s are reporting that late sunday night Republican Joe Schwarz, who represents the Michigan 7th had his campaign office vandalized with anti-gay graffiti. The Michigan Republican courageously voted against the anti-family Federal Marriage Amendment in the House last month. Now as he faces a GOP primary challenge from anti-gay preacher Tim Walberg, signage at Schwarz’s campaign office was vandalized late Sunday night (click here for the campaign news release and photos). Someone scrawled the word “FAG” on one of Schwarz’s signs. The other one had the congressman’s eyes cut out. Schwarz said, “This is the work of people lacking all integrity or values, and I find this type of hate speech disgusting.” Please contact the Schwarz campaign to show your support.
