Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Leaked
2007-07-18 23:49:00 Surpassing all my expectations, Harry Potter (e-book) is out 3 days before the official release. The only disappointment about the book is that it never betrays the expectations and predictions of die hard fans. Was really pleased to see that most of the predictions of mine coming true. [Read my predictions - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ].Spoilers follow:Snape is not evil. In fact Snape lived near to Lily Potter and loved her dearly.[Snape was the one who informed Lily Potter, a muggle born that she is a wizard. Until the day Snape called her 'Mudblood', there existed a very warm friendship between two of them.]As predicted, R.A.B. is Regulus BlackNo 'Gandolf' Business. Dumbledore & Sirius Black are dead.[The book portrays death as not a very bad thing. Rowling heavily borrows from the Christian notion of resurrection and the wisdom of accepting our own inevitable disintegration and decay.]Dumbledore's Biography is given the maximum coverage.Harry is infact a Horocrux ...
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix - Movie Review
2007-07-13 20:32:00 Ah! My first movie review in this blog... :)Being an avid fan of the 'Harry Potter books', the only reason I went to the movie is to check - how much of my imagination of the story matches with the director's version. Thankfully the director has done a very good job - by not missing most of the important scenes in the novel and by not providing a word-by-word rendition of the novels.Except for the scenes(in the novel) of tension between the members of the Order of the Phoenix - especially the one in which Mrs. Weasley would protest against saying the important matters happening at Headquarters - 12 Grimmauld Place to children, most of the other important scenes were there in the movie.Few Important ObservationsOn seeing Harry Potter teaching the other students of D.A. reinforced my doubts that Harry Potter would finally end up as "Defense Against Dark Arts" teacher at Hogwarts.Interestingly, no mention about Sirius Black's Brother - Regulus Black. J.K. Rowling, who was adamant ... More About: Movie , Movie Review , Review
Sambhar Night @ IIM Indore
2007-07-10 09:48:00 To explain Sambhar Night , I have to travel back a year down in my memory lanes...Flashback. zhig.. It was the first time that I have been outside TamilNadu for such a long time. That too, Indore being a God forsaken place, did not offer much to a foodie. And one month into IIM Indore, my mouth has started watering on just hearing the names of the South Indian Dishes i grew up with - Idli, Dosa, sambhar, rasam, etc. Then one fine day, PGP2 guys got the wisdom and decided to take us-PGP1 to a Tamil Mess - SICA around 20kms from IIM Indore... They said it is a tradition at IIM Indore among tamils..That day I understood, how simple & common food that u grew up with can become the 'Amirtham'[Elixir in tamil] of your life. I still remember the fulfilment i had after the meals that made me look double my size.Flashback Over.. Back to Colour Screen.. And the tradition continues... Sambhar Night 07' took place on July 7. And another batch of IIM Indorians got to savour the taste of amazin...
Blogging Addiction???
2007-07-09 19:09:00 65%How Addict ed to Blog ging Are You?Yeah! Ofcourse! I dont trust this result from a survey of 14 questions... But still liked the innovative idea(of using a survey to utilize the humans' attraction to flaunt his addictions) to drive traffic to his 3 month old online dating website. Tinkering with My Blog
2007-07-07 00:24:00 For the last few days, I have started tinkering with this blog's code a little bit.For the people who have earlier visited this blog, you can notice the following things1. Blog ger Navbar at the top is gone for the good2. There is a new sidebar sprouting at the left hand side of the blog3. Google Adsense Ads are right inside the blog postsWill try to explain 'How I did it?" in the next one or two posts...P.S: It was very easy and there are enough step-by-step guidelines available in the internet for each of them.. 'Blogs I Never Miss' in My Feed Reader
2007-07-04 16:43:00 First to all greenhorns, A feed reader, is a client software or a Web Service which aggregates syndicated web content such as news headlines, blogs, podcasts, and vlogs in a single location for easy viewing. For more about feed reader, can read it in Wikipedia - Web Feed Aggregrator. I came to know about them when one of my friends - Sreeram introduced me to Google reader and thereafter it has always been a love-love relationship between me and Google reader. It helped me to follow up a lot of blogs, even leading me to be the first commenter in most of the blogs. :) Slowly, It established itself as the first thing that i would open in my computer in the morning. Now to the five Blogs I would never miss in Google Reader [Not in any particular order. Left out all the friends' blog since i do not want to bring my personal prejudice into this]1. "How to change the World" by Guy Kawasiki - With the network he has developed, Kawasiki just brings so much value to each of his posts.2. "B... More About: Miss , Logs
I have a new hero and her name is Mika Brzezinski
2007-07-01 19:50:00 We always love to see the movies in which the hero stands his ground against the might of the villian[since we never had the guts to do so]... But if something like that happens in real life, I believe it is the duty of the cowards like me to salute these rare heroes. Mika Brzezinski , an experienced newscaster and journalist - is one such person who stood up against the Mighty. What did she do?She stood her ground and refused to read her segment's lead news item on Paris Hilton on live citing that it does not deserve to be the leading news item. Clips of her shredding the script were the lead item on the Technorati search, while the blogosphere is alight with praise of her. (FYI - Paris Hilton is one of the most searched terms in Google).Read the whole news here - 'I have a new hero and her name is Mika Brzezinski '. Waiting to see Mika Brzezinski of 'Times of India'...P.S - Thanks Govar for the news. More About: Hero
Desktop Tower Defense - One more Game Worth Getting Addicted to...
2007-06-25 10:35:00 Today when i dozed off in the class room, the images of creeps with decreasing lives - moving through the maze came alive before my eyes.. [Even now(while typing), I am seeing them in the middle of the editor]. No Deja Vu or Trance. Just the effects of playing another addictive computer game - Desktop Tower Defense all through the night. Desktop TD is a fun flash based puzzle / strategy game where you have to protect your desktop from invaders by spending money on attacking pieces and building a maze for them to follow. Strangely addictive yet stress relieving... Just try and find out how many levels can you survive?.. I am still struck up at 'Hard' Mode.Goal: Creeps enter from the top and from the left. You must stop them from reaching the other side or you will lose lives. You start with 20 lives, and when they are gone the game is over. Towers are used to attack creeps and also to block their path.If you have never played a Tower Defense before try the Quick Start Tutorial.... More About: Personal , Game , Worth

The Week that Was - 'Record Breaking' [Shivaji & Campus Placement]
2007-06-18 09:27:00 Shivaji, the Craze"Where are they releasing Shivaji @ Tirunelveli?". This was the first of the series of questions that i bombarded the autowallah who was taking me home after my 2 month internship at Pune. Not only me, the whole Tamil blogging world has been set on fire with the pre-release Rajini mania. Even the English news channels were not able to keep this important news(!) from their headlines.. [Surprisingly such extensive coverage of 'Shivaji' was not even seen on any of the Tamil channels.. :)].. Just the fact that a Tamil Movie 'Shivaji' was able to make the whole India sit up and take notice of it - amounts to a record breaking incident for me. Add to that, the following record breaking achievements by 'Shivaji, the boss' in TirunelveliFirst time, a movie is getting released in 3 theatres in Tirunelveli.. [Do you want any more proof that Tirunelveli is a city????]50 lakhs was the amount paid by the theatres in TirunelveliOfficial rate of First Day, First Show Tick... Are Pyramid Schemes (Questnet, GoldQuest) Easy Way to make Money???
2007-06-08 11:19:00 During my engineering days, I immediately rejected the idea when one of my friends tried to make me a member of a pyramid marketing scheme - a new way of making easy money without any sweat or hard labour. But most of my friends who joined it either burnt their fingers or were just able to break even.. that too after efforts and persuasion that could have easily turned around a mountain... :) To hide the fact that they have made a wrong decision(against the advice of a few level headed friends), they usually came out with a reply that they learnt salesmanship ? a useful business skill. This was something that was bygone. But when i recently heard about a similar scheme from my friend in Bangalore, with a initial investment of Rs. 30,000+ [During my engineering days, it was Rs. 5,000/-], i knew a post was long overdue."A pyramid scheme (also known as "Pyramid Scam") is a non-sustainable business model that involves the exchange of money primarily for enrolling other people into the sc... Things I never Knew - Eve Teasing
2007-06-05 14:48:00 I never knew it. I was ignorant of it. I was shocked when I came to know it - "Silicon Capital of India - One of the prides of India - Bangalore - is unsafe for women" . I was dismayed when my cousin explained - "Why can't she go to certain places in Bangalore?".. "Why can't she even go for booking tickets alone?".. "How tough it is for women to be women in cities?".."Eve Teas ing".. For some of us, it is fun.. According to some of us, the victims deserved it.. Some of us are not even aware of it.. But for most of us, it is something we read in newspapers or something that only some skewed people mostly from the lower strata of the society do.. For me, Eve Teasing has always been associated with 'Death of Sarika Shah' rather than as an social evil that my sister or friends daily face. India indebted to Karunanidhi for his 'unmeasurable' love for Tamil
2007-06-04 15:15:00 This post was invoked by the wish list of an old man who knows he won't live long enough to see them - "Strive to make Tamil an official language, Karunanidhi tells youth". Wherever i go outside TamilNadu, one of the questions popped up by my friends & strangers alike is 'Why u Tamils never learn Hindi?'. So let me answer that question before i move to benefits that country has reaped of 'Tamils never learning Hindi'.One of the key reasons is the man who is presently the esteemed CM of TamilNadu - Read "TN ready to fight against Hindi dominance - Karunanidhi". This great man while ensuring that his children & grandchildren learnt Hindi, made sure that the other Tamils were ignorant of the fact that your life is tough in India without knowing Hindi. If you want to know the historical reason, you have to go and read the newspapers of January & February - 1965. It was during these days Tamils - a 30 million crowd stood up as a single unit to fight against the implementation... More About: Society , Love , Nani

Reservation in TamilNadu - My Opinion
2007-05-23 19:59:00 This was my toughest post ever. On one hand, it is the first time someone(Karthi) requested me to write on an issue. In the other hand, I fear my opinions may hurt a few people including a few friends of me. That was one of the reasons I consciously avoided posting on the Reserva tion issue on my blog. (Even this post has been there in my blog for more than a month for want of publishing) Another constraint is that - the only demographic profile that i know of is TamilNadu making me ineligible to comment on the whole of India. So restricting the reservation issue to TamilNadu to make it much more meaningful for the people who read this.Is the reservations really bad?I have studied four years in a college which has around 60% caste-based reservation but none of us cared or gave a damn for this issue. We accept it as a reality and found a way to live with it. A few things I observed from my U.G. College isThe policy of having around 60% reservation in my U.G. college ensured a very go... CFA exams cancelled for Indian students!
2007-05-22 19:55:00 You won't get to see this headline in any newspaper. But for more than 7000 Indian students who were slogging day and night for this particular exam on June 3rd, it was a huge shock & disappointment. If you have never heard the word 'CFA', the following paragraph is for you :CFA stands for Chartered Financial Analyst. First awarded in 1963, the CFA charter is the designation of professional excellence within the global investment community. The CFA Program offers a truly global educational challenge where you'll build a fundamental knowledge of investment principles that is relevant in every market around the world. Employers and investors know the CFA charter is the definitive standard for measuring portfolio management and investment analysis competence and integrity.[Copied from the CFA institute website] It is a must-do, in the calendar of MBA students whose car... Displeasure of D(MK) with Maran

Interview with President of World Vision - Excerpts
2007-05-18 17:00:00 One of the few things I know about my career is that - after five years of corporate life, I will be taking a moment and re-evaluating whether I really want to stay there. So now itself, started short-listing things I can do if i decide to quit corporate world. One Evergreen Option is to become a Professor in some well known college [There is nothing more exciting than entertaining 60+ students for a hour but still managing to add some value - that too, not for a single day, but for a whole semester.. Hmmm.. Looks tough enough for me..] Another option - To join some social service organization and 'World Vision' heads that list of social organizations I would like to join. So I was very much interested on seeing the heading "Ten (or so) questions with Richard Sterns, President of World Vision" in Guy Kawaski's Blog - "How to change the world". Chennai Autos Have Competition! Finally!!!
2007-05-13 08:40:00 It has always been a habit for Chennai Bloggers to have a dig at Chennai auto wallahs. For example, Read the recent post on Kiruba's page - 'How an auto driver helped my marathon practice' especially, the comments page where people want some kind of Internet protest to be organized against Chennai autos. These kind of posts coupled with my few bad experiences had made me to nurture a thought that 'Chennai auto drivers are the worst in the country'.But everything changed once I set foot in Pune. Truly, Chennai auto wallahs are 'angels' when we compare them to their kind in Pune - especially the ones near the IT parks. Even the word ' exorbitant' is a too kind a word to use for the amount they charge you. Pathetic Public transport ensures that this is the only mode of travel. Chennai Bloggers! Please remember that the auto drivers in Chennai are not so bad as they are made to look like."Yeah! Mushrooming of IT parks is ensuring that Chennai Auto rickshaws have competition...
