Water - A source of life & Perennial Conflict
2007-02-06 13:54:00 After the recent Cauvery tribunal verdict, there has been tension reported in Karnataka, especially in Bangalore. (Read the news here). Hope any untoward incidents like the one that happened in 1991 do not happen this time around. If any violent incident occurs, Bangalore is sure to lose the status of "Silicion Valley of India".(atleast in the minds of the Tamils)It was reported in Indian Express that there were sporadic incidents of violence in the Tamil dominated areas in Bangalore. We have been living as a single nation for more than 50 years. But Still how far apart, people in each State have been. [What is the logic behind targeting a community for the verdict by a national body in which they have no role to play?. This escapes my mind.]. These incidents shows how much racism is still prevalent in india. If communities/States/Nations fight for water now itself, fear to think of the up-coming days of global warming, when it will be more tough to find water on this beautiful e... BSNL and Its Comical Vision
2007-01-30 15:11:00 This is not a post to give various reasons for Indian public sector companies to be privatised. But because while working for my Strategy Planning project about BSNL , I found out how inefficient the Indian public sector companies are, that i could not stop myself from posting. The vision of BSNL according to the company's website is "To become the largest Telecom Service Provider in South East Asia." Read it over here. But according to Wikipedia, South East Asia is a subregion of Asia, consisting of the countries that are geographically south of China, east of India and north of Australia. The point to note over here is that South East Asia does not include India, the only country in which BSNL has its presence. Except BSNL, everybody in this world know that the subregion of Asia which includes India is known as South Asia.I do not know whether it is just a mistake they committed in their website or it is a mistake in the vision statement of BSNL itself. Anyway, no excu... More About: Management , Sion , Visi , Vision , Visio
What can I Give to My Nation?
2007-01-26 11:28:00 The title is taken from the Address to the nation by the President of India Dr. A.P.J. ABDUL KALAM on the eve of the 58TH REPUBLIC DAY - 2007 . If you have not read it until now, please read it here.A must read for every Indian who loves his nation...After reading it, i am unable to wait for the India of 2020 with 100% literacy rate and nearly zilch People below Poverty line. The address also stresses the role that needs to be played by each and every Indian especially the youth for such a future. I was especially attracted by the call to the youth to enter the politics. Politics has always been a career option that i have been looking at for a very long time. [If i am entering politics, surely would be running for elections in TIRUNELVELI only:-)) But, with the current set up of Indian politics, it is virtually impossible for any honest youth to have at least a semblance of chance to win the elections. To win, you need a backup of a well known-party to win the elections. Also... More About: Personal , Nation , Give
Racism & India
2007-01-22 12:57:00 Right from the time, the recent racial(is it so?) remarks against Shilpha Shetty in 'Big Brother'(the U.K. reality show) hit the news(Read the Story here), every India n has lifted a protest flag complaining that we are always at the fag end of the racial attacks. But before pointing our fingers at others, let us first examine ourself.According to Oxford dictionary, the racism is defined as "Belief in superiority of particular race; antagonism towards other races"Going by that definition,Is not the still prevalent caste system(the National SIN of India) in India a kind of racism? Are not the recent attacks by the ULFA on Hindi-speaking people racist? Can not be the regular Shiv Sena attacks on non-Mumbaites be called as racist attacks? Are not we treat the outsiders(who are also INDIANS) as second-rate citizens? And who can forget this photograph?... Even thinking about this has made my heart to lose all the happiness & joy. Oh! India, even after living for more than 50 years as a s... More About: Society , Racism
Why Tirunelveli is "The City" of the world!!!
2006-12-15 18:18:00 "In life, we meet a lot of people, but make friends with few... In those few, some touch our life in such a way, that their presence is felt in their absence too..."Ya! You guessed it right. A regular SMS message from one of the umpteen number of friends of mine...But................This message was different.....Reason:- It was from one of my very close friends who has been with me right from my school. He for some reason saw it fit to send this message. (He has never forwarded me a SMS before). To cut the story short, this message made me thinking. Made me to understand why wherever i go, Tirunelveli will always be my city of the world!!! It made me to think of the awesome friends that God has gifted me in my childhood. Those of us who had seen the Microsoft Ad would accept that it is the people who differentiates the organizations and gives it the competitive edge. In the same way, it is my friends who differentiates Tirunelveli from the rest of the world. It is because of them, ... More About: Personal , World , City , The World
Think About the Newspaper U Read
2006-12-14 13:25:00 ----------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------- -------------- Right from my childhood, "The Hindu" has provided my life with a staple diet of current affairs (for knowledge and thought). "The Hindu" has been and always will be synonymous with the word "Newspaper s" in my life. You never understand one's importance unless it goes off from your hands. Now living in a land, where i can receive my beloved Newspaper only a day late.. that too in the afternoon made me to realize how i have grown up on the newspaper. NO! This post is not about Hindu. But about Indian newspapers in general. Indian newspapers have a rich and unique past. A Set of newspapers not formed for profit, not formed to provide people with news of what is going on in sports or business but to aid the nation's struggle for freedom. The history of Indian newspapers are dotted with such great personalities! But what had happened to the Indian newspapers now is a matter of gre... More About: Society , Read , Paper , Think
In Service for Sight
2006-11-29 22:55:00 This post is on the request of one of my friends who asked me to write/post on any interesting material that we, the management guys(:-)) would come across. As someone who blindly loves his home town, it is natural that I post on the case which made my home town to appear in the map of one of the management books I study. If you are thinking about what I am talking about, just answer this connect question? . . Connect Harvard Business Case Studies, A Small Temple Town in Southern Part of India and Cataracts? . . It is none other than Aravind Eye Care Hospital. Ø A role model for many hospitals and subject of study in many business schools Ø A Hospital to which the Google co-founder and president (Products), Larry Page, flew down to look at the overall view of its functions. Ø The only examination centre of the Royal College of Ophthalmology, United Kingdom, in the country Ø Designated by the World Health Organisation as a collaborating centre for pr... Will never vote for Flies
2006-07-21 11:19:00 Fly - This insect until now in my life has been just a two-winged insect... Not to be worried about much or even cared about.. But in these days, these insects have now made me to change my decision. Here goes my story. As i start spotting a lot of flies near the mess, i thought this is something that is restricted to areas near to the mess.. Also they are attracted by the leftovers of the eggs and other things that are used to bathe the birthday baby. Yesterday, after coming from the class, saw 10 0r 15 flies inside my closed room.. Thought o.k. it is not a problem. They can be easily driven away. But to be my surprise, these insects are good at dodging away from the well-aimed shots taken by me. If i keep my room open, there are more number of flies eagerly awaiting for their chance to have a darishan of my room.. Just coming to the conclusion that i can do nothing about them, even if they come and sit in my face, i slept. Next morning, went eagerly to our QT professor's ... My Take on Tamil Nadu Elections
2006-05-15 19:57:00 As someone who has keen interest in politics right from my childhood days, if I did not have a post on the recent state elections in Tamil Nadu it would be so wrong on me. So here are my analysis and opinion: First of all, hats off to the people who for the first time elected a minority government to the state. Also a strong opposition in the assembly means that whenever the opposition wants to talk something, they won?t be removed (i.e. thrown out) from the assembly. Also it will be interesting to note what strategy that Jayalalithaa follows whether she is going to follow Karunanidhi?s footsteps of zero attendance in the assembly or she is going to be a constructive opposition leader. Let us wait and see. Since there was no visible wave this time around, small factors in each and every district played a major role. Vijayakanth was a major factor who reduced the victory margin in lots of constituencies with his 8% vote share. Except for the vote from his fa... More About: Politics , Elections , Tamil Nadu
