Helicopter
2008-06-08 23:25:00
Did anyone see the funny helicopter flying in a pattern over East Meath this afternoon. It was flying precisely on West-East lines and had two things sticking out the side. It would go out as far as the coast then head South and come back in-land. Maybe a Google chopper or otherwise the Ordinance Survey. ...

One reason to vote yes to Lisbon
2008-06-08 23:10:00
One reason to vote yes is that John Bolton, a leading American Neo-Con wants us to vote no. The reason being that voting yes would undermine NATO. He is quoted as saying: Bolton, seen as a hard-liner among right-wing Republicans, said a Yes vote in Thursday?s referendum on the treaty could impact on the military alliance ...

Lisbon
2008-06-08 00:05:00
This is the best debate I’ve heard on Lisbon so far.. Embedded from RTE.IE I encourage you to make your own mind up, but here is my approach to reaching a decision on which way to vote: Our airwaves are polluted with politicians from all the mainstream parties trying variously to cajole, frighten or bully us into ...

More Albanian style schools
2008-06-07 08:53:00
This report in the Independent is surreal. A school in Limerick has only outside toilets and parents have been campaigning for a decade to have the school refurbished for the first time in 99 years. They are told that the project will commence in the Summer and then are told that it won’t because “there ...

A thought from Chomsky
2008-06-07 00:27:00
Think about this analysis from Chomsky in the context of school facilities in East Meath . GMS: In the so-called reconstruction in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2004, one of the policy-initiatives championed by the Bush administration right up to the present was the dismantling of the New Orleans public school system. The New York Times ...

Politicians: Promoters or Representatives
2008-06-06 23:38:00
Polls are showing that a majority of people favour a ‘NO’ vote for Lisbon. The press is presenting this as a crisis for Brian Cowen. It begs this set of logic: The majority favours voting NO, Politicians are elected by the majority, Politicians therefore should promote the NO vote. But they don’t! The crisis arises because all mainstream politicians are ...

Inflation of 5-10% is a bad thing on a pack of eggs or a loaf of bread…. It is in the national interest to have 5-10% inflation on houses….

Almost a third of primary classes are in prefabs
2008-06-02 11:37:00
Pretty startling figures revealed in the Independent today. That is almost 900 out of the 3300 school in the state have prefabs for around 40,000 pupils. You would be forgiven for thinking that the government is in fact hostile to the idea of primary education for children.

Just a thought
2008-05-28 00:47:00
Isn’t it a bit odd that the state does so much to encourage people to own their own home and discouraging renting but at the same time has become averse to ownng anything itself? Think about all the roads, hospitals, prisons, schools etc that are now or soon will be rented by the government from the ...

Hope government doesn?t cave to property interests
2008-05-25 14:57:00
Reported in the Tribune, the builders want the government to give people money to buy houses. Obviously this is daftness of the higher order. Have people not copped on that the last thing people need to do is buy another house, especially one where people are expected to burn expenses petrol to get to work. ...

True cost of living in East Meath Utopia
2008-05-14 00:35:00
Are people still coming to East Meath for the bucolic bliss? By that I mean stone age bucolic bliss where we can live out our fantasies as cavemen with none of the modern distractions of an education system or any form of culture. We can head down to to the local shopping centre to hunt ...

There is nothing that cannot be spun
2008-05-11 12:34:00
Came back to this highlight from the weeks news. Did the new Tanaiste just welcome the news of 250 job losses in Kilkenny and Dundalk? She did, you have to read it carefully. Diageo, the multinational maker of Guinness has spun the closure of the Dundalk and Kilkenny breweries as an “investment” in the Dublin ...

Back from a Real Country
2008-05-11 12:21:00
Back from the holidays in a real country. A country that is poorer than Ireland, but still in he EU. A country where eating a good meal for two with drinks costs less than ?50, where the kids can walk to the playground, where they have playgrounds, where they have parks. A place where quality ...

Fact or Perception
2008-05-02 22:48:00
Excellent observation It is, fortunately, no longer general to find the idea of progress to be a given. Undoubtedly some do believe in progress, but they do not imply it is the general context in which to understand or view events. An equivalent idea is the idea that everything comes, or will come, out finally. An idea ...

Bettystown ?Town Centre?

From the Drogheda Leader: Bettystown Town Centre has been designed to meet the most demanding shopping living and leisure requirements. … Unlike shopping centres in the greater North Dublin area that experience severe traffic congestion and parking restrictons, Bettystown Town Centre is a haven of tranquility and offers the shopper ease of access to and from this well ...

Thoughts on Laytown school
2008-04-27 11:23:00
The local press is full of comentary on the third annual Laytown school crisis. The reaction is odd to say the least. It seems that a local landowner whose family previously owned the land where the school will be built has retained a key parcel of land and that the department of education included development ...

Meath Councillor Interacts With ?The Youth?
2008-04-16 10:06:00
There was an interesting confrontation between FF Councillor Nick Killian, chairman of Meath County Council and local youths in Ratoath. Interesting because it captured a robust exchange between the councillor and the youths which culminated in Killian doing a “John Prescott” and lunging for one of the teenagers after been called a fat bastard after ...

Third year of School Crisis in Laytown on the Cards
2008-04-15 23:16:00
From the Meath Chronicle, a report that there is a very real prospect of kids being bused to Ratoath from East Meath to attend School . Apparently the decision to grant planning permission to a new school in Laytown is being judicially reviewed in the High Court leading to a delay in construction. THE prospect of students ...

Education is the Test
2008-04-15 09:27:00
Education will be the test for FF. If the FF axis can lie and deceive people to such an extent they can convince them that they are worthy stewards of the Irish education system then their plan for total national domination will be complete. Let’s analyse the situation. A QUARTER of all primary schoolchildren are being ...

No Money for Hospital
2008-04-05 10:00:00
After all the fuss about the new hospital for the North East region, it now turns out there is no money to build it. What a joke. All that fuss and effort millions wasted on feasibility studies and there wasn’t even a budget to build it. Sounds like incompetence to me. If there is no ...
