Sanctions Against Iran Limited: Germany and Iran Business as Usual
2007-09-18 17:45:00
If you're interested in continued business and care very little for or even recognize the threat from the Islamic Republic of Iran , be sure to visit:"BERLIN - A conference entitled "Iran - Business Opportunities for German Exporters" is opening tomorrow in Darmstadt, Germany , under the auspices of the Hessian state government and an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology, and to the chagrin of Israeli diplomats, who have accused Berlin of sending a message of "business as usual" to the regime in Tehran."Today from Berlin chief government spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm said:"We are adhering to efforts for a negotiated diplomatic solution, all other options are not presently at disposition."The question will likely remain; would serious and invasive economic sanctions deter negative moves on the part of Iran with regard to its nuclear ambitions? We'll probably never know, however, were Iran's number one trading partner play along, adherence to "efforts for a nego...

HillaryCare II: HillaryCare I Was Not Sneaky Enough
2007-09-18 16:09:00
An NRO Symposium on HillaryCare the Second, "Dr Hillary Will See You Now"“Hillary Clinton says she has learned the lessons HillaryCare I. Judging by HillaryCare II, she still prefers the perverse incentives of collectivism over the virtuous incentives of the market. All she learned was that she wasn’t sneaky enough the first time around.” Michael F. Cannon “Senator Clinton would require Americans to have health insurance, and she would provide expensive new government subsidies to help households pay the premiums.” James Capretta “In one fell swoop she has cut the Gordian knot of health-care reform. The problem, especially for a Democratic presidential candidate, is: No matter what you propose, a significant number of the party faithful are not going to like it. The obvious solution: Propose everything!” John C. Goodman “The cornerstone idea: Make employers buy insurance for their employees. From a distance, it doesn’t sound unfair — but i...

Iranian Peaceful Nukes – Almost there on Agreement
2007-09-18 15:24:00
"We do not take these statements seriously. Comments to the media are different from real statements" – Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in response to recent statements from France According to the Director of the IAEA, Mohamed “Neville Chamberlain” El Baradei: “there is no reason to go beyond diplomacy in dealing with Iran's nuclear program. The international community needs to keep the process of dialogue open in order to restrict the idea of using force against Iran, he said. Underlining the need for clarifying and moving forward within the framework of a timetable agreed upon by IAEA and Iran, he said other nations should understand that the issue has been tied with the security of the region, therefore, they are expected to be more patient. Taking a page from Ahmadinejad, we should add; we do not take these statements seriously, comments by diplomats never speak beyond the process of negotiation.” The “secular pope” is seeing to it that the entire regi...

All You Need is Love?
2007-09-17 20:07:00
The 9/11 commemoration speech from Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Patrick according to Mark Steyn included this beauty, that the attack: “was a mean and nasty and bitter attack on the United States,” and “was also a failure of human beings to understand each other, to learn to love each other.” Rather than learning to love each other or say an Atta it would be wiser to understand an Atta. If no further than understanding an Atta, it would be best to take an Atta at his words and anyone else that has a deranged view of the world. Steyn sees this as do many others, as a result of our “multi-cultural” beliefs and attitudes that assumes we are all the same; just from different places. We’re not all the same, nor should we try to make those out to do us harm equal to us. If crowds of people chant “death to America,” we should consider that an indication that they don’t much care for us. When someone that fits a “profile” and is traveling from say...

How About 16 of Your Females for 16 of Ours
2007-08-07 23:17:00
According to The Korea Herald: “Taliban militants Tuesday proposed that female South Korean hostages be freed in return for the release of an equal number of female Taliban prisoners held by the Afghan government.” 16 of the hostages taken by the Taliban, which the paper describes as “extremists, waging an insurgency against the government,” are women and any women arrested and convicted in Afghanistan would have been jailed being according to Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi “simple Taliban supporters, who were convicted for providing food or shelter to Taliban fighters.” Oh, well then, that’s ok… On a brighter note and in what would not have been seen five short years ago in Afghanistan: “Around 300 Afghans demonstrated Monday in the southern city of Kandahar calling for the release of 21 South Koreans who have been held by the extremist Taliban militia for more than two weeks.” “The demonstrators moved through the city in pickup truc...

Hillary; compassionate misanthrope
2007-08-07 22:50:00
Hillary doesn’t trust humankind, which fits in nicely with the Liberal mindset; leave it to us and the nanny state will take care of you. Here’s a question and it’s something that has been irking me for some time now; why are all the candidates referred to as Romney, Richardson, Paul, McCain, etc., yet Clinton is always “Hillary,” by haters and lovers alike? But I digress…ever since the “secret” letters came out in the NY Times from a young “Hillary” the toilet paper has been all about her. Posts here were not in depth, just with a certain disgust when I would view the front page for tripe being shoveled out to the masses. The same day an announcement was made in the Times that it and NBC News were joining forces or collaborating on election coverage both entities of the same stripe had humanizing “Hillary” filler. The day that followed offered yet more of the same; you couldn’t get away from it. Enjoy Brent Bozell’s latest, as were going t...

FISA and the Imperial Judiciary
2007-08-07 21:03:00
What if a data packet could be purposely sent through the U.S. networks? What if Joe Blow in California and Joe Dunno in New York were having a conversation via cell phone or some other wireless communication device? What if the recent legislation passed before the kids in DC went on summer recess hadn’t been passed at all? For one The NY Times editors and perhaps the FISA would be pleased with this turn of events, as the editors this morning made clear they don’t care for the president viewing his role in intelligence gathering as constitutional. FISA might be happy as a recent ruling protected foreign to foreign communications; so Mahmoud and Mustapha in Pakistan or elsewhere would be protected in their communications with each other while planning an attack in the U.S., unless of course as proscribed by the FISA court, a warrant were obtained. If you read or have read Andrew C. McCarthy today at NRO you might wonder where exactly the Times and other Leftists get th...

Moore’s Sicko Has a Good Point
2007-08-07 16:56:00
I have not seen Sicko , nor do I intend to, as a matter of fact I have never seen a Michael Moore film. That said in my defense I put forward the following theory as to why healthcare in Cuba, Canada and Europe has a one up on the U.S. system. I’m sure this point is not made in the film, but it deserves to be if it’s going to be honest. A friend of mine left work early yesterday to have some work done on one of his eyes; what exactly the problem to be resolved is I am not sure, so I won’t be going into the science of it all. As I saw him in the hall he mentioned that he was taking off shortly for the work and I said or asked back, ‘won’t be in tomorrow?’ He said, ‘oh no, I will.’ The problem with his eye was very recently identified and this goes to the crux of my argument. Were he in Cuba, Canada or Europe he would be in the office today. Why? Were he in Cuba, Canada or Europe, the surgery appointment would have never been scheduled this early.Trackbac...

The Times; Afraid of Fearing the Right Thing to Fear
2007-08-07 16:06:00
“why, six years after 9/11, is this sort of fishing expedition the supposed first line of defense in the war on terrorism?” – The New York behind the Times Editors The NY Times editorial board is getting really angry with the Democrats, as are the Kos-mynauts; forget about Bush, oh yeah they hate him, but the Dems are really letting them down. This morning’s editorial is rife with misunderstanding and msm, Leftist “fear mongering;” the fear mongering that they are best at. There is so much to pick and pull apart that I chose to pick one paragraph only to look at; the boards logic and line of thought is mentally exhausting: “But the problem with Congress last week was that Democrats were afraid to explain to Americans why the White House bill was so bad and so unnecessary — despite what the White House was claiming. There are good answers, if Democrats are willing to address voters as adults. To start, they should explain that — even if it were a good ide...

Organization of the Islamic Conference Allies in the War on Terror
2007-08-06 21:35:00
It’s always a pleasure when Mark Steyn’s work at National Review is available to the general non-subscribing public because it is at that time that I feel the most comfortable quoting and linking to something he has written. In the July 16th issue of National Review and available at Steyn Online is “Denial is a river in Washington.” In it he takes the various Western nations governments to task in their overly obsessive PC etiquette in conducting the war on terror. Read it and enjoy, but I am posting from within his essay to the references he makes to the Organization of the Islamic Conference. Western leaders, including most recently Jacqui Smith, the British Home Secretary under Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who was quoted as saying ‘“Any attempt to identify a murderous ideology with a great faith such as Islam is wrong, and needs to be denied.”’ This is in line with Brown’s disallowing the use of the word “Muslim” in any reference or connection wit...

The Antediluvian Era of Telecommunications
2007-08-06 19:20:00
Today it seems we have more chance of finding Noah’s ark, than getting Democrats and their adherents like the NY Times editorial board to see the light. Last Friday 8/3 I avoided posting about the NYT editorial board and its continuing hissy fit with regard to NSA wiretaps et al., because I had had just about all I could take from them and the media in general on this subject. Rather than report honestly, each issue that comes up is treated as the latest "dirt" affording the hopes of the next Pulitzer. As to the usual course they went at the administration as stampeding Congress: “Since the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the Bush administration has repeatedly demonstrated that it does not feel bound by the law or the Constitution when it comes to the war on terror. It cannot even be trusted to properly use the enhanced powers it was legally granted after the attacks.” Read this opinion and almost any other and if you didn’t know where you were reading it from, throw ...

The Conspiracy to find Conspiracy
2007-08-06 15:46:00
Why does the Times editorial board has such wood for the Right, Republicans, Cons ervatives and President Bush in general? This morning you can enjoy a “Selective Prosecution” according to the board and its Kos like paranoia. One shouldn’t just jump on board in a defense of the Justice Department and treat concerns as though they are not founded; but are they grounded in reality or just wishful thinking. Is it “fear mongering?” The opener from the board of fear: “One part of the Justice Department mess that requires more scrutiny is the growing evidence that the department may have singled out people for criminal prosecution to help Republicans win elections. The House Judiciary Committee has begun investigating several cases that raise serious questions.” Again, don’t treat it as though there is nothing wrong, but “serious questions” are something we have been sorely lacking over the past half decade plus and by far “serious questions” are a...

An Odd Close to an Odd Group’s Panel – Freaking Out Kossacks!
2007-08-03 22:53:00
Interesting note from Tapped at The American Prospect: “AN ODD CLOSE. As the Military and Progressives panel came to an end, a young man in uniform stood up to argue that the surge was working, and cutting down on Iraqi casualties. The moderator largely freaked out. When other members of the panel tried to answer his question, he demanded they "stand down." He demanded the questioner give his name, the name of his commander, and the name of his unit. And then he closed the panel, no answer offered or allowed, and stalked off the stage, Wes Clark took the mic and tried to explain what had just occurred: The argument appears to be that you're not allowed to participate in politics while wearing a uniform, or at least that you shouldn't, and that the questioner was engaging in a sort of moral blackmail, not to mention a violation of the rules, by doing so. Knowing fairly little about the army, I can't speak to any of that. But it was an uncomfortable few moments, and seemed fair...

To the MSM, Shift is a Euphemism for Withdrawal
2007-08-03 19:35:00
The behind the Times offers up a dish on Defense Secretary Gates’ “blunt” review on the progress in Iraq. What strikes me in the tone of “articles” on our efforts in Iraq is that what is honest assessment is viewed as some kind of admonition of guilt for something; each is an ‘we told you so’ moment for the msm. For all its supposed wisdom and intelligence it always gets down to its not being over yet therefore and even without actually saying it, it has failed. “In one of his bluntest assessments of the progress of the administration’s Iraq strategy, Mr. Gates said, “I think the developments on the political side are somewhat discouraging at the national level.” He said that despite the Sunni withdrawal, “my hope is that it can all be patched back together.”’ Following this revelation that all is not perfect and that the new strategy is not a silver bullet on its own, the toilet paper then leads us to the place it wants the reader: “Mr...

Friday Sermon from Iran
2007-08-03 16:25:00
“Foreigners want to push Muslim Umma into a degrading position and get them engaged in internal strife.” - Tehran's substitute Friday prayers leader Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani The bizarre practice of Friday prayers in Tehran continues and as usual if you are looking for what many think of in terms of a religious service, you won’t be finding it here. Tehran's substitute Friday prayers leader Ayatollah Mohammad Emami Kashani had the usual rants about the U.S., Zionists and in addition nations in the region that are currently allies of the U.S. purchasing arms. Kashani used KosProse paranoia/propaganda when referring to the sale(s) to “save its arms manufacturing companies from bankruptcy and get money out of Muslims' pocket and put it in Israel's instead.” So we have yet another instance of Iran taking a page from the internal enemies of our country. "The world of Islam should remain cohesive and united despite all the ongoing conspiracies so that...

2007-08-03 15:54:00
Victor Davis Hanson at NRO this morning has some eye-opening and thought provoking words regarding the latest “Pew poll of June 2007.” The popularity poll consists of what the world thinks of the U.S.: “No doubt when the Bush administration leaves office, and should a Democratic one replace it, our approval ratings will rise with our present detractors. But they may also decline among our friends who will learn that U.S. open markets, free trade, and reliable military support in times of crisis are now objects of left-wing criticism. Note in this regard that world opinion toward both China and Russia is turning unfavorable. That distrust will only increase as both begin to flex their muscles — the former gobbling up oil contracts from the most murderous regimes, the latter selling the same rogues anything they need to foment unrest.” After reading the essay, give some serious thought to the final paragraph, not just for the sake of tit for tat, but perhaps just...

The Medias and Democrats Iraq; a crack in the veneer
2007-08-02 22:31:00
Rather than being a case of vindication it is more relief that we are not insane. Some may want to jump up and down with a loud ‘I told you so’ but it is more than that. The relief comes from the crack in the veneer that blocked the light of fact. There has never been any doubt in the mind of many that Iraq can be a violent place. The daily death and mayhem is not ignored, the separated families are not mere trifles, and the challenges are recognized; but through it and standing for continuing with our actions was and is not a political game of we can’t lose this. It is the ramifications of not succeeding, of not quitting too soon or let’s try this hopefully improved tactic. It is not that we want this to go on endlessly throwing our military at the enemy as if they are so many chips in the pot. Iraq obviously cannot go on for years and years more as though it’s not big deal. We have learned through the historical lessons of our military that its success i...

Al Qaeda drew "first blood," they don't know who they were messin' with...Yesterday, we all got a good laugh when it was revealed that Democrat Presidential aspirant Barack Obama announced he would “invade Pakistan,” if necessary. My post with limited comments didn’t add much as what is there to add to the already ludicrous? This morning, James S. Robbins has a great take over at NRO on Obama and acting on “actionable intelligence.” “So President Obama would invade Pakistan? Who would have thought? “It was a terrible mistake to fail to act when we had a chance to take out an al Qaeda leadership meeting in 2005,” Obama said at a speech at the Woodrow Wilson Center in Washington. “If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Mush arraf won't act, we will.” Obama was pinging off a recent New York Times report of an early 2005 mission to apprehend al Qaeda leadership figures in Pakistan, including second banana Ayman ...

Thoughts on Competition and The Journal from The Board
2007-08-02 15:22:00
From the editorial board at The NY Times regarding the purchase of “The Journal :” “When Americans are served by many different, responsible, competing news outlets, they can make more informed judgments.” “The exodus of American news organizations from Iraq, for example, means more Times exclusives from the war zone, but Americans need and a healthy democracy demands as broad a view of the war as possible.” This is very much the case as with few exceptions at the NY Times we have to receive its slanted dregs every day. Like this thoughtful article on the front page this morning, “In Fox News, Giuliani Finds a Friendly Stage,” versus say earlier front page articles this week on Hillary Clinton and Chelsea, “Two Liberal Wrongs do NOT Make a Right,” and “NY Times Loves Hillary Unbiasedly.” In closing, the board hopes, but you know they have already made up their minds: “The best way for Mr. Murdoch to protect his $5 billion investment is t...

How Much Jail Time Revisited

“Gloopity glop,” was the story change from Christy Freeman of Ocean City, MD earlier this week when confronted by police after being found bleeding. Police believe she caused the stillbirth of the “26-week-old male fetus” found wrapped in a towel covered in blood under the bathroom sink in her home. Police found additional bodies of babies on her property. In a post earlier this week, “Asking How Much Jail Time for Women Having an Abortion if Roe Were Overturned?” based upon an essay by Anna Quindlen in Newsweek, regarding the “gobsmacked” look on pro-life activists protesting outside an abortion clinic in Libertyville, IL when asked the question. When posed this way, Quindlen asserts: “there are only two logical choices: hold women accountable for a criminal act by sending them to prison, or refuse to criminalize the act in the first place. If you can't countenance the first, you have to accept the second. You can't have it both ways.” This p...

One of the boys told her that he (Wert) had to let them go and had died. The rescue team found Wert, brought him to shore and tried to revive him. Jamaica; “come to Jamaica” is the commercial that always runs through my head when I think of traveling there. It is by far a place I would love to visit one day. Anytime you see pictures of the beaches and their surrounding waters I’m always struck by the absolutely gorgeous blue; it almost doesn’t look real. Consider that you have the choice of 1,000 plus kilometers of coastline for lazy days on the beaches of Jamaica. If you tire of relaxing(?) why not give snorkeling a try. According to the Jamaica guide some of the great spots are: Doctor's Cave Beach, Coyoba, Seaworld and Royal Reefs. Go deeper giving some diving a shot at Rock Cliff Reef or Sharks Reef; personally I would take in a guided tour so as not to miss anything local guides would know that you don’t.Beaches and diving is not all there is to do while in Jamaica; explore the many landmarks that make Jamaica great including the "Great Houses," museums and other cultural attractions in the Kingst...

The Martyrdom Seeking Culture will Protect Us Against ALL Social Problems

Any and all difficulties a zealous belief system faces are unbeatable if you just believe… So says President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mahmoud “MoMo” Ahmadinejad: "The martyrdom seeking culture will protect us against all social problems." This was one of his statements while: “speaking to officials in charge of holding ceremony commemorating martyrdom of 36,000 army commanders during eight years of sacred defense, he said martyr seeking spirit would is the strongest shelter against enemies' guns and machine guns and no one can confront a nation with such a high morale.” Regarding Iranian “peaceful” nukes: “following the proposal made by Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani in Madrid on resolving the remaining issues with IAEA, once again Tehran proved its good will and let the IAEA inspectors visit Arak heavy water plant.” IRNA has been going through a general over haul in its tone of reporting with the occasional rhetori...

Victory has a Hundred Fathers, but Defeat is an Orphan
2007-07-31 17:00:00
Yesterday saw the publication of an OpEd in The NY Times regarding the Iraq Theater in the war on terror written by Michael O’Hanlon and Kenneth Pollack entitled, “A War We Just Might Win.” Say, have you heard about it? Today, possibly as a counterbalance (as opposed to the editorial page’s usual ever so slight, falling over LEFTIST tendency), to yesterday’s opinion is one submitted by Nicholas Thompson, a senior editor at Wired magazine, “A War Best Served Cold.” Thompson is currently authoring a biography about George F. Kennan, a career foreign service officer who is credited with formulating the policy of “containment,” against the Soviet Union during the Cold War. According to Thompson, Kennan “gave American strategy a name, but not much else.” Also the article, “X” published in Foreign Affairs “sixty years ago this month” was basically “grounded in a misunderstanding. Kennan didn’t make clear whether he intended containment to be p...
