Dozens Die in Iraq Cult Clashes
2008-01-18 23:35:00 another example of how little we understood about Iraq , it's culture and it's internal problemsBBCDozens of people have been killed in clashes between members of a Shia cult and police in the southern Iraqi cities of Nasiriya and Basra , police say.Street warfare erupted as members of the Soldiers of Heaven launched apparently co-ordinated assaults on police positions and fellow Shia. The office of Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Maliki said security forces had regained control of the two cities.Clashes between the cult and Iraqi troops last year left 263 people dead. The prime minister's office said a number of "heretics" had attacked processions of Shia marking the Ashura festival and tried to take control of a "government institution" in Basra in a "criminal plot"..... I Just Like This One Better
2008-01-17 18:46:00 How many voters feel this way?For months the media has "educated" the general populous on every position, moral, historical point, and family member of the candidates. Do any of us really absorb all that information? Or does it come down to the impression we have of the candidate as a person? When we step in that booth, are we voting for someone we like more, one human being to another?Sure there are voters who put one issue above all others, and vote for the candidate that shares their view on abortion, gun control, or other social and moral stances, but for the majority of us, doesn't it really come down to who we are attracted to as a personality, as a presence we can support and trust? We pull the lever with the hope and a prayer that the person we're supporting really is a decent human being who will surround themselves with the right people, and when decision time comes, do the right thing for us, and our neighbors. It's not a decision based on party, or positions, but on tr... More About: General
Delegate Count as of January 16
2008-01-16 23:30:00 I have decided use the delegate counts of CNN for my blog. Why? It will be the MSM that will eventually call an official nominee, not a website (The Green Papers). However, I highly suggest you visit the website to learn more about the primaries and their counts. You can view the numbers from CNN by clicking on the delegate counts on the sidebar. So here is where the delegate count stands. A Note on Clinton's Win in Michigan
2008-01-16 06:16:00 68% of African-Americans voted for Uncommitted, while only 30% voted for Hillary Clinton , the only major candidate on the ballot who also has a strong background working for the African-American community. This is a wakeup call for the Clinton camp and a defeat for Clinton among African-American voters.23% of the total votes were African-American.Overall, I don't think her results tonight will help or hurt her. Hillary Clinton Wins Michigan Primary
2008-01-16 02:00:00 Senator Hillary Clinton will go on to win the uncontested Michigan primary. Last year top Democrats orchestrated a mass exodus off the Michigan primary ballot citing Michigan's disobedience to the rules of the DNC. Hillary Clinton was the only top Democrat on the ballot and was joined by Chris Dodd and Dennis Kucinich. There was an uncommitted campaign in Michigan which ate into Clinton's support. Nevertheless, a win is a win and if Michigan's delegates are seated at the convention is means a boost for Clinton. More About: Primary

Rasmussen South Carolina Poll Shows McCain Rising
2008-01-14 22:11:00 A new poll from Rasmussen on the South Carolina primary.RasmussenDemocrats Barack Obama : 38%Hillary Clinton : 33%John Edwards : 17%Republican sJohn McCain: 28%Mike Huckabee: 19%Mitt Romeny: 17%Fred Thompson: 16%Rudy Giuliani: 5%Ron Paul: 5%The previous Democratic poll showed Obama with a 12-point lead, that is now down to 5 points. The poll was taken on the 13th, right when the racial tensions between the Clinton and Obama camp began to heat up. So, it is likely this bump was due to Clinton's win in New Hampshire and not a backlash from African-Americans who think it is unfair to question the Clinton's dedication to African-Americans or injecting race into the campaign.McCain now leads in South Carolina and is benefiting from three candidates who are splitting the conservative vote.

Endorsements for Obama
2008-01-12 05:15:00 The last two days have been big for Barack Obama in the endorsement department. Here is a summary.Senator John Kerry?Who better than Barack Obama to turn a new page in American politics, so that Democrats , independents and Republicans alike can look to the leadership that unites to find common ground??Kerry brings with him millions of contacts which can bring in much need money to fund Obama's campaign. While the endorsement in general goes against Obama's theme of change and outsiders, Kerry is still "liked" by many Democrats (I'm not one of them).Congressman George Miller"Barack has the skills and experience that's necessary to really challenge the status quo in Washington, D.C.," Miller said before a press conference Wednesday in San Francisco. "I'm very encouraged by the energy of the people responding to him and his vision of how people can come together to solve the problems that confront us."Miller is a close adviser to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and a champion for womens rig...
McCain Pulling Ahead In South Carolina?

The economy, Iraq, immigration and homeland security shared top billing as most important issues. Most sought in a candidate was someone who would stand up for their beliefs. McCain was considered strongest leader and most honest, Huckabee and Romney the truest conservatives. About a third said it was important a candidate share their religious beliefs. Conservatives and strong Republican s were divided about evenly among McCain, Romney and Huckabee. Four in 10 said they may change who they will support.
Because There Aren't Enough Candidates From NY Already..
2008-01-10 15:04:00 Michael Bloomberg, despite repeated, public, adamant statements that he is not nor had never been considering an Independent run for the Presidency, has in fact been setting up a team to do polling on his behalf for months.I'm not sure what to make of a potential candidate who begins his potential candidacy by lying about being a potential candidate... although it is refreshing that he's flying his true colors right off the bat. But in this case, for a man who's made billions off his own actions, and like him or not you have to admire that, I'm fascinated that he thinks there is room at the table for him to play.Bloomberg's plan to run in this 7th inning of the game is either the worst mistake he's ever made, or political brilliance if he wins. I'm calling it to go down as the worst mistake, ever.Money can't buy happiness, and in this case, it can't buy the White House. Peace. More About: Candidates

Mike Bloomberg Researching Presidential Run
2008-01-10 04:25:00 After a bipartisan gathering in Oklahoma, word has it Mayor Mike Bloomberg has begun research efforts into a possible third party run for President.According to the AP, data collection began months ago and has yet to be analyzed. This includes polling from every state in the Union, voter trends and level of support. With an estimated worth of $11.5 billion, Bloomberg is known for going after things that are achievable and winnable. He spent $155 million in his run for Mayor in 2001 and 2005 and has become possibly more popular than former Mayor Rudy Giuliani. While this shows serious consideration from Bloomberg and his team, it is not definite if he will announce a third party contention. In a system made for two parties, it becomes very difficult for a third party candidate to achieve a single electoral vote. Ross Perot who ran in 1992 and 1996, achieved over 19% of the popular vote in his first presidential run, but did not win any electoral votes. In fact, the last third party ca... Bill Richardson Drops Out
2008-01-10 01:43:00 Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico has dropped out of contention for the Democratic nomination for President. Richardson was the only Governor in the Democratic race and former cabinet member and stressed his credentials throughout the race. Richardson gained attention in the summer when he released two humorous ads touting his experience, which propelled his support to as high as 12% in Iowa. Nationally he was almost a non fact. Centerpiece of the campaign was the immediate and complete withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq.Richardson finished 4th in both Iowa and New Hampshire. No word yet on an endorsement. Margin of Victory
More articles from this author:2008-01-10 00:30:00 What is it about New Hampshiremen? They can beat the devil at his own game, and unfailingly clean up a race and make it exciting every election season. When I was in New Hampshire I noticed the sort of bleakness of the landscape. The state seems to have an interesting history. Granite predominates. This left the ground difficult to till in the agrarian economies of the past. So New Hampshiremen evolved. New Hampshire voters take their vote seriously. Last night they made it a race for all of us.Yesterday, The two winners of the New Hampshire Primary were (again) John McCain and the now re-vitalized Hillary Clinton . Hillary won by 2% precincts against 40-37% of the overall vote, by gaining traction in the womens vote, and losing against Obama in the Independents (Obama took 43% of the independent vote). It is widely believed that McCain's conservatism held his course there. Althought Huckabee, the winner of the Iowa contest, fashioned himself to be an evangelical conservative in Io...
