Well, well, well.... I was lost for words. It wasn't me who did it, but lets not mention any names ;-) Pulled it out with a tractor - thanks Tom! Don't think there's much damage - possibly a brake pipe or two - will have to see in the morning. Bloody cars - more hassle than they're worth, and the expense! ::shakes head:: Never mind! Atleast the sun was shining - just the weather for grounding a car :-)

I've reached over 9,000 words and I've only just begun the last chapter (conclusion) ::joyous celebration:: I've still got more results to collect, and plenty more to write about so it looks like I'm heading for atleast 12,000 words in plenty of time, thank some deity or other. In the meantime I've managed to flash the firmware on my router and add comment functionality to my wife's blog. How has all that happened? Don't ask me! So now I'm off to enjoy myself, maybe watch a film or play some computer game, a chance to forget everything and relax.....

I can hardly believe it, it seems too good to be true: I've written over 10,000 words! Now I have plenty of time for editing and other general fiddling :-) Can't quite rest yet though, I still have an assignment to do, and exams to revise for. Not to mention a resit in August...

...well almost! I've done all the writing, all that is left is to design a front cover and sort out the files to go on the CD. Oh, and acknowledgements. I've just printed a draft copy = quite a wodge! What a lot of hard work, for what? To help me get a `special' piece of paper that's actually worthless. All this hard work for a degree which I'm going to throw away because I can't bear to work in an office, let alone support any corporate interests.... I guess it's all about personal development, so that I can choose to give help to those who would like it regardless of their ability to pay. here's to a degree which i don't really want very much :-)

Since finishing (almost) my link diss I've been trying to reduce memory usage on my laptop, as it's running my webserver, and some other stuff that I wan't going 24/7, and it's only got 192MB RAM! So I called up task manager (run... taskmgr) and found Explorer was one of the biggest hogs, so I'm now running link LiteShell as my shell instead of explorer. It really is a totally minimalist shell, no task bar, no tray, no nothing, except a menu which you get by right-clicking on the desktop (which has no icons). So to add a bit of functionality I have link TrayModule which does exactly what you'd expect (except a few missing icons). Then I added link TrayIt which lets you minimise application into your tray, and even remembers which windows you've `trayed' in the past. Apart from all that messing around with the shell (I also tried PowerPro which looks very nice, but is an arse to configure) I pruned out some Unecessary Windows Services and all Services now use about 12.5 MB...

A man, so desperate for money that he resorts to trying to sell one of his kidney, gets punished, including having to pay £250! This is not the way we should be treating vulnerable people who have been trampled on by the economy. People in this kind of situation need our help. I am not advocating the sale of body parts, but if an individual decides to do so of their own free will, as an act of desperation, we should help them escape from their desperation in whatever way we can, not do our best to keep them at the bottom of the heap. I could choose to carry a donor card and give away my internal organs for free in the event of my death, yet trying to sell them is a crime?! Well I've caught up a little today. Managed 600 words, and I've got together a load of data. Had to use regular expressions to turn output from the command line into .csv files, it actually worked very well :-). Having now pulled all the bits from various .csv files into a spreadsheet and done some calculations (with time values, which was a complete pain up the arse!), I need to pull bits of the spreadsheet into LaTeX tables ::gulp:: - more regular expressions methinks. I'm getting behind on my diss. Not single word written yet today. My computer has been running a test batch all day, it still hasn't finished and I have five more to go. Luckily they should get quicker. Atlast midnight has passed and I can see how the calendar thingummy responds to posts on more than one day! Democracy Player - dissapointing :-( UPDATE 2007/04/02: Having spent a few hours watching stuff downloaded with democracy player I would like to withdraw my previous assertion and state that it is actually pretty darn good :-) UPDATE 2007/04/03: And now I have just watched a short video and visited the website mentioned at the end. Democracy player is a brilliant way of disseminating information that the corporate media aint gonna give ya. It's about "trusted computing", and it's a trult horrifying prospect. "Trusted computing" would mean the end of open source software (most of the internet) and an end to this blog! :'( I strongly recommend you wise-up about this threat to our civil liberties., problem being I dont know what to do about it. How can we stop this? (Don't you just hate that feeling of powerlessness against corporate interests?)

Virtual Hosts

I've spent all day searching for, and trying out, small (pref. tiny) web servers that can do virtual hosts, cgi perl, aliases and url rewriting. I've lost count how many i've tried, all to no avail, each one had something wrong with it - or maybe I've been to stupid to configure them properly! One of them would serve a page correctly on the first request but if you hit refresh on your browser it would say "Page not Found"! The best one - the one I was already using is Abyss Web Server. The problem is that you have to pay for certain features (including virtual hosts) and I'm a tighfisted git. This is my second blog entry and I am determined to make it alot longer than my first. I have never done this before so it'll probably be one of the crappest blogs in the blogosphere..... So what am i likely to blog about in the future? Probably loads of boring stuff like economics and politics. However boring they may be, they are very important subjects that should concern us all. Economics and politics have an immeasurably large impact on us as individuals and on the planet as a whole, every second of every day.

I have 2 weeks to write 5000+ words for my disertation. I've been managing about 300 per day. I need to do 357+ per day to get it done in time - better up the pace. Thing is i'm very short on words, I spend at least 15 mins considering one sentence. And it's not just writing the words either, I need to sort out appendices and figures, not to mention the bibliography..... So, less time blogging and fiddling with my webpage, more time disserting.

It's taken quite a bit of work and fiddling, but here it is at last - the music section - ::applause:: Just to start off with there's a flash thing on the left there which can play some of my tunes. I will be adding individual posts for each track as and when I get round to it with a player for just that track ;-). Eventually I'll try to get downloads for the tunes at a higher bitrate and maybe try selling some CDs.... In the meantime you could listen to and download my tunes from www.soundclick.com and boost my chart ratings, plus you'll find some tunes there that aren't available here. What on earth! Are my eyes and ears decieving me? It seems not. Can you imagine a CCTV camera telling you off for some trivial `crime' or `anti-social behaviour'. "Oi! You in the hoodie - put your hood down, or else you'll get ans ASBO and a tag!" This is absolute proof that Tony's government has absolutely no regard for our civil liberties. They want a big brother state, they want to track your every move, hear every word you speak, read every word you write. And now they want to have your ear wherever you go. They speak of respect and show us less every day. Well if a CCTV camera ever speaks to me it'll be getting the two fingers. I left school over 10 years ago. Will they ever realise that treating us like naughty kids will never work?
