Is the broadcast media indirectly responsible for the deaths of hundreds and perhaps thousands of American soldiers over the past 40 years?Can broadcast media coverage embolden an enemy? Can political criticism about a war during the course of that war encourage the enemy to increase attacks on our troops on the battlefield? Does engaging in public debate about war strategy to score political points jeopardize the lives of our soldiers? These are questions that every American should ask himself or herself. The first thing we need to do is to identify and define what we mean by dumb. Identification is necessary to establish how the word dumb is being used. From "dumb's" usage, we can determine a workable definition. If we stick with Webster's definition, then dumb means unable to make articulate sounds, having no powers of speech and deaf.
