It will cost some money, but we either build this or we build highways, so which would it be? For some reason, I hardly ever get very ill anymore. But I just came down with the stomach flu (gastroenteritis), the worst case I have had since I was a kid. You really don't need to know the messy details. I did some research on this illness.Wikipedia seems to think it is spread by bacteria, often through something you ate. But someone else I talked to said that it's often spread person to person as an infectious agent like a cold or flu. I just gave to two folks who I'm visiting right now, so I guess that's true. Windows XP Service Pack 3 Install Problems

Although I have managed to wack out my XP install pretty bad (long story how I did it - but it has to do with abuse of the System Restore feature while having the time and date set wrong on my computer), I managed to get it up and working more or less pretty well.However, I am now having some problems installing updates from Microsoft, in particular, the latest Service Pack , Service Pack 3. First of all, I am having serious problems even downloading them in the first place, but the problem was McAfee Virus Scanner. I show you how to turn it off when it's grinding away at the drive and preventing you from downloading stuff here.But even when I managed to download Service Pack 3, it was still failing with an error code. A look around the web showed me that a huge number of people are having problems installing Windows XP Service Pack 3. SP's 1 and 2 were ok, but this one was bad news. Solution For Mcshield.exe Hogging the CPU

I am having lots of problems with Mcshield.exe while I try to download updates. It starts grinding away at the drive, nothing downlands, and everything gets really slow. Mcshield.exe is the McAfee Antivirus scanner. I don't know why, but every time I try to download something from Microsoft, this program goes insane. Solution ?First of all, determine that the problem is indeed McAfee. Search for Task Manager on your drive and make a shortcut to the program, putting it on your desktop. I run that program all the time. It tells you which programs are hogging memory of CPU. It's pretty easy to figure out.The solution to the problem is to turn Mcshield.exe. Open up the McAfee Security Center by clicking the icon in the tray on the right-hand side of your screen. Shift from Basic Menu to Advanced Menu. Click Configure. Click Computer and Files. Here are some interesting graphs done by a fellow over at Daily Kos. The went through all of the polls he could find and averaged them together. I don't really understand his methods, but he's using some kind of Gaussian lines. These charts are based on polling mostly ending from September 12-15 (although the Indiana chart ended on September 5), so they do not catch the latest mood over the Wall Street crashes.New Mexico was looking awfully close recently, but a couple of recent polls have Obama up by 7-8 points. Although this site has McCain up by 2, at this point, it is looking like Obama will carry the state. This is really two states, with the Northern half consisting of heavily-Spanish very old-time Hispanics who go back to when the state was a part of Mexico and Spain. Here is a real nifty little chart that I just cooked up. Expected results are based on how the state voted in past two Presidential elections. That's it. Nothing else. No fancy footwork, weighting or projections or any of that. It also gives you a picture of how red or blue each particular state is.I really need to cook up another chart listing red states by how red they are and listing blue states by how blue they are.
