The recent events in the Sudan, should be a warning to every liberal that believes Islam is another benign peaceful religion. If the behavior we in the West are seeing is not characteristic of true Muslims , "Will the real Muslims please stand up." And I'm not talking about Muslims living in Western Democracies. These people are Muslims in name and custom only.For those of you that missed it, the following is a recap of the Associated Press article. Gillian Gibbons, a British teacher, is being threatened with execution and 40 lashes for allowing her students to bestow the name Muhammad on a class teddy bear. Several thousand Sudanese protested in central Khartoum on Friday against the teacher. Banners demanded "Punishment, Punishment, Punishment," as protesters chanted, "Kill her! Kill her by firing squad!" Gibbons, who was sentenced on Thursday (November 29, 2007) to 15 days in jail and deportation, was taken from her prison to a secret location to ensure her safety.
