The Sounds Of Saturn (audio)
2008-01-26 16:24:00
Tomorrowland article link Emissions from the Satellite Songs From The Planet Saturn Put down your iPods for minute and listen to this incredible recording of audio emissions from Saturn. Captured by the Cassini spacecraft as part of the Cassini-Huygens mission, a joint project of NASA, the European Space Agency and the Italian Space Agency, the noises have been altered so that we humans can hear them, but the general patterns remain intact. Spooky, ethereal sound waves drift across the speakers like a flock of homeless ghosts in search of a mansion. It's a confirmation of all those sci-fi sound effects we grew up with, a mere theremin sweep away from a Doctor Who rerun. Weird.

George Bush Is A Genius!
2008-01-26 13:25:00
Anyone that reads this blog regularly knows I have become a rather outspoken critic of the Bush administration and George Bush in particular. In an earlier post I had even said how ridiculous I thought this “economic stimulus package” was. At first blush it looked to be nothing more than a silly attempt at appeasing the public similar to the ridiculous $100 pay out from the government when the price of gas skyrocketed. But that is not the case.In this one bold move President Bush has managed to accomplish one of his major goals right in the Democrats face and they not only can not stop him but are compelled to support him wholeheartedly. What is that bold move you ask? It is lowering our taxes. Moreover, I have to give credit where credit is due on that issue. Bush has been steadfast since day one about not raising taxes. Now he has managed to push through another tax cut in such a manner that the Democrats could not possibly stop. The way the tax cut is to be executed, as a h...

Dangerous talk of change for the GOP
2008-01-25 03:15:00
Hard to believe that this person is so clueless he does not understand the frustration and yes even anger that many conservatives feel towards the current administration. Yes, we want change! We want real conservative fiscal policy, small government and control of our borders. The Bush administration is much more like Democrat administrations in all these important areas. Is it really any wonder we hear the name Ronald Reagan being invoked so often? And as far as so many erstwhile Republicans (like myself) being Independents as Zell Miller once said "I did not leave my party. My party left me". MacsMind article link Dangerous talk of change for the GOP Jan 24 at 8:08pm by MacrangerDuring the nightly news broadcast tonight a segment with David Gregory covered the “conservative” question among GOP candidates. Near the end Gregory asked a group of FAU students who they thought spoke for the party and the camera panned to Rolando L. Herrera, who is a avid supporter of Democr...

Bill and Chelsea Clinton Might Want to Fact-Check Their Speeches
2008-01-25 01:07:00
The Clinton s caught in another lie? I am shocked! ABC Blog article link Bill and Chelsea Clinton Might Want to Fact -Check Their SpeechesJanuary 24, 2008 6:32 PMSarah Amos and Z. Bryon Wolf report: Former President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton are the best surrogates Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., could hope for in this election. They are well loved by Democratic voters, know Hillary better than any two people do and believe she has the right ideas to help fix the issues voters care about.Of course, being good doesn't always mean you are accurate. And as tensions between Sen. Barack Obama and the Clintons rise over every discrepancy and twisted fact, accuracy has become the name of the game. So perhaps the President and Chelsea need to go back to the record books before they start talking about Sen. Clinton’s record on Darfur. President Clinton has been touting his wife's commitment to Africa on the campaign trail by telling interested voters that "Hillary was the first U....
Insincerity And Lies From The Los Angeles Times About Prop 93
2008-01-25 00:34:00
As usual the Los Angeles Times manages to not only come down on the wrong side of an issue but under the guise of "reform" they twist facts to reward the very politicians they are supposedly criticising. In this case it is the Evil Twin Mexican socialists Fabian Nunez (D-Los Angeles) and Don Parata (D-Oakland) that will be rewarded. The Times makes a feeble attempt at hand wringing about how they really do hate to see treacherous politicians like Nunez and Parata rewarded in the attempt to "fix" our states political problems. You see Nunez had promised to attach Redistricting to this bill then backed out of his promise at the last second once he had gotten the endorsements he needed. And the justification they give is straight from the Prop 93 commercial about "increased expertise" of more seasoned politicians. What it really does is give Parata and Nunez an additional few years to rob the state blind before switching to the other side of the House and ...

Dick Morris: There's A Method To Crafty Bill's Madness
2008-01-24 02:02:00
Received Via Email THERE'S A METHOD TO CRAFTY BILL'S MADNESSBy DICK MORRISPublished in the New York Post on January 22, 2008.Why is Bill Clinton courting such intense publicity, in evitably much of it negative? Is he crazy? Crazy like a fox.He has two goals and is achieving them both spectacularly.First, he wants to be the same kind of lightning rod for Hillary that she was for him during his run for the presidency. As the 1992 Republican convention approached, Hillary ratcheted up her comments and profile precisely to attract GOP fire so that they would leave Bill alone. He and I discussed the plan.Hillary's comment, for example, about "baking cookies and serving tea" put her squarely in the Republican Party's sights as the convention approached. The Republicans fell for the lure big time and spent their entire convention going after Hillary. Bill was scarcely hit.And the 1992 GOP convention is one of the few that afforded its party no bounce at all. Now Bill is returnin...

Dick Morris: How Clinton Will Win The Nomination By Losing South Carolina
2008-01-23 06:30:00
Received Via EmailHOW CLINTON WILL WIN THE NOMINATION BY LOSING SOUTH CAROLINABy DICK MORRISPublished on TheHill.com on January 23, 2008.Hillary Clinton will undoubtedly lose the South Carolina primary as African-Americans line up to vote for Barack Obama. And that defeat will power her drive to the nomination. The Clintons are encouraging the national media to disregard the whites who vote in South Carolina ’s Democratic primary and focus on the black turnout, which is expected to be quite large. They have transformed South Carolina into Washington, D.C. — an all-black primary that tells us how the African-American vote is going to go.By saying he will go door to door in black neighborhoods in South Carolina matching his civil rights record against Obama’s, Bill Clinton emphasizes the pivotal role the black vote will play in the contest. And by openly matching his record on race with that of the black candidate, he invites more and more scrutiny focused on the race issue.Of course...

RIP Fred Thompson The Candidate

Viguerie, the author of Conservatives Betrayed: How George W. The traditional coalition is falling apart
2008-01-22 14:20:00
Received Via Email The traditional coalition is falling apart Steve Beren, January 22, 2008www.berenforcongress.com www.steveberen.com The traditional Democratic Party coalition is falling apart. The Democrats are deeply divided, unable to select one clear representative out of their four candidates (Dennis Kucinich, John Edwards, Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton). Among the various constituencies who make up the traditional liberal coalition, no consensus has been reached. None of the four has caught fire with the liberal elite, reflecting deep divisions within the Democratic activist ranks. Among the Democratic grassroots activists, there is a profound feeling that the traditional liberal coalition is dead. The liberal elites long for the good old days of Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, but they are disappointed in the current crop of candidates. Some hope that Obama or Edwards could represent a “second Carter term,” while some hope that Hillary Clinton could represent a “t...

Dick Morris: Hillary V. McCain Might Just Be The Final
2008-01-22 02:57:00
Received Via Email HILLARY V. MCCAIN MIGHT JUST BE THE FINALBy DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANNPublished on January 20, 2008.Both Clinton and McCain scored hugely significant wins on Saturday in Nevada and South Carolina, wins which might set them on the road to the nomination.Hillary is very likely to lose South Carolina because of the large black vote there.  Had she lost Nevada too, she would have been badly handicapped going into Florida and Super Tuesday, having suffered two consecutive defeats.   But now that she has won Nevada, she can lose South Carolina and still have momentum. The run-up to South Carolina and the primary itself will feature constant focus on the African-American vote.  Analysts and pundits will wonder if the wife of the “first black president” will lose to the real thing.  She will.  But, in a curious way, this will hurt Obama more than it will help him.  It will create a racial subtext to a campaign that, until Iowa, didn’t have one.  Watching bl...

Steve Beren: What Reagan said twenty years ago this week
2008-01-22 02:10:00
Received Via Email What Reagan said twenty years ago this week Steve Beren, along with several of his supporters, will be participating in the 30th annual March for Life, to be held on the state capitol grounds in Olympia at noon tomorrow (Tuesday January 22). It is worth recalling President Reagan's words, twenty years ago this week, in his final State of the Union address: "Tonight, I call America - a good nation, a moral people - to charitable but realistic consideration of the terrible cost of abortion on demand. To those who say this violates a woman's right to control of her own body: Can they deny that now medical evidence confirms the unborn child is a living human being entitled to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? Let us unite as a nation and protect the unborn with legislation that would stop all Federal funding for abortion and with a human life amendment making, of course, an exception where the unborn child threatens the life of the mother." -Pr...

Duncan Hunter Calls It Quits

CNN article link Hunter exits presidential race Presidential Aspirant Duncan Hunter Calls It QuitsPosted: 06:51 PM ET Hunter will announce later Saturday he is exiting the White House race.NEW YORK (CNN) — Rep. Duncan Hunter has abandoned his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, the California congressman said in a statement released Saturday evening.“Today we end this campaign,” said Hunter, according to an advance copy of his remarks he was scheduled to deliver later in the evening. The California Republican, an outspoken proponent of cracking down on illegal immigration, did poorly in the Nevada GOP caucuses held earlier in the day.“The Nevada caucuses reflecting only 2 percent of the vote for me,” he said. “I ran the campaign exactly the way I wanted to, and at this point not being able to gain traction in conservative states of Nevada and South Carolina, it's time to allow our volunteers and supporters to focus on the campaigns that remain viable.
McCain Wins in South Carolina
2008-01-20 03:40:00
Washington Post article link McCain Wins in South Carolina John McCain Wins South Carolina By Chris Cillizzawashingtonpost.com staff writerSen. John McCain (Ariz.) won a narrow victory over former governor Mike Huckabee (Ark.) in today’s South Carolina Republican presidential primary, avenging a loss eight years ago in the Palmetto State and re-staking his claim as the campaign’s front-runner.With 93 percent of precincts reporting, McCain had 33 percent of the vote to 30 percent for Huckabee. Former senator Fred Thompson (Tenn.) was leading former governor Mitt Romney (Mass.) by a percentage point in the race for third place.McCain referenced his long -- and, at times, difficult -- campaign in South Carolina at a victory celebration in Charleston, S.C. tonight. "It took us a while, but what’s eight years among friends," McCain joked. He quickly pivoted to insist that the Palmetto State victory had put him in the pole position in the race for the nomination. "We are...
Robocall trashes "Barack Hussein Obama"
2008-01-19 20:22:00
This stinks to high heaven of Hillary Clinton. Her cohorts and accomplices would do this in a heartbeat. The Clintons have done much worse in the past. Just recently they were saying that Obama not only did drugs but was possibly selling them in college. Whispers and innuendo, the Clintons stock in trade. Hat tip to The Politico for this article as well as the link to the recording. The Politico article link Robocall trashes "Barack Hussein Obama" The Obama campaign has released a recording (mp3) it says came from a Nevadan's answering machine of an anonymous robocall that criticizes Obama for taking money from special interests while repeating, four times, his rarely used middle name: "Hussein.""I'm calling with some important information about Barack Hussein Obama ," the call begins, before saying that "Barack Hussein Obama says he doesn't take money from Washington lobbyists or special interest groups but the record is clear that he does...
Mitt Romney Wins In Nevada
2008-01-19 20:13:00
Washington Post article link Romney Wins in Nevada By Chris Cillizzawashingtonpost.com staff writerFormer Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney won the Nevada Republican caucuses today, while Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee were battling for a first-place finish in South Carolina. With the presidential campaign still wide open in both parties, the focus shifted today to the South and West, where Republican and Democratic candidates are urgently seeking wins in a caucus and primary contest to give their campaigns a boost."Today, the people of Nevada voted for change in Washington," Romney said following his victory. "For far too long, our leaders have promised to take the action necessary to build a stronger America, and still the people of Nevada and all across this country are waiting."With 29 of 1,789 precincts reporting, Romney had 46 percent of the vote to 15 percent for Sen. McCain and 14 percent for Rep. Ron Paul (Texas). D...
California Politicians Lie To Stop Term Limits With Prop 93
2008-01-19 17:42:00
The level of political deceit and hypocrisy has reached a new low in California . California, like many other states, has enacted term limits to put a halt to the professional politician class. As of right now, forty-two politicians are to be termed out in the next 1 – 2 years. Amongst those are Fabian Nunez and Don Perata. Fabian Nunez (D - Los Angeles) is Speaker of the California State Assembly and Don Perata (D – East Bay) President of the California State Senate are among those to be term limited out of office this year. In what can only be described as a stunning example of ego and deceit Fabian Nunez and Don Perata are backing an initiative that will change the law to allow them further years in office. This is ballot proposition 93 and it is a change to the state Constitution no less to allow politicians to stay in office, and not so surprisingly enough it affects Nunez and Perata, allowing them more years in office. And in the height of political deceit they are p...

Dick Morris: Hillary Clinton's Massive Conflict of Interest
2008-01-19 12:50:00
Received Via Email HILLARY CLINTON'S MASSIVE CONFLICT OF INTERESTBy DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANNPublished on FoxNews.com on January 18, 2008.As American banks go hat in hand to foreign financial institutions and governments, begging for capital to help them get out of the mess into which their subprime loans have landed them, the question arises as to whether the United States should permit nations like China, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the banks they control to acquire part ownership of our leading banks. The presidential candidates discussed this issue in their Nevada debate and Hillary was asked about it in an interview with Neil Cavuto on the FOX Business Network yesterday. She replied that she would not “stand in the way” of such investments, but said that they needed to be vetted and called for more disclosure and “transparency.”The fact is that Hillary Clinton is totally unable to be objective on this key question of our national financial soverei...

Bush Proposes $145 Billion Stimulus Plan
2008-01-19 05:16:00
Why did I know that the very first thing out of the Democrats mouths would be wailing that it won't benefit those who pay no income taxes. This is an across the board TAX REBATE. It is not a hand out. Bush also drew sharp criticism from Democratic presidential candidates, who accused him of neglecting 50 million low-income workers who do not pay income taxes. The last time this was done people who paid no income taxes were given a multi billion dollar handout. This just makes no damned sense. How about if the politicians promise to steal less money from us and spend less next year. I think that would be an excellent 'stimulus package'. Washington Post article link Bush Proposes $145 Billion Stimulus Plan   Democratic Leaders Praise MoveBy Peter Baker and Neil IrwinWashington Post Staff WritersSaturday, January 19, 2008; A01President Bush called yesterday for a $145 billion stimulus package centered on tax breaks for consumers and businesses to rejuvenate the lagging U.S. economy, ...

Dick Morris: In Contrast To Obama, Hillary Plays Race Card
2008-01-18 04:21:00
Received Via Email IN CONTRAST TO OBAMA, HILLARY PLAYS THE RACE CARDBy DICK MORRISPublished on TheHill.com on January 16, 2008.On the evening of Jan. 3, it became clear that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) was going to be a serious candidate for president with a viable chance of winning. The Clintons decided that he was going, inevitably, to win a virtually unanimous vote from the black community. Their own reputation for support for civil rights would make no difference. With a black candidate within striking distance of the White House, a coalescing of black voters behind his candidacy became inevitable.Frustratingly for the Clintons, Obama had achieved this likely solidarity among black voters without, himself, summoning racial emotions. He had gone out of his way to avoid mentioning race — quite a contrast with Hillary, whose every speech talks about her becoming the first female president. But precisely to distinguish himself from the Jesse Jacksons and Al Sharptons of American poli...

Dick Morris: Time For Edward's Exit: Hillary, Barack Fate In His Hands
2008-01-18 04:16:00
Received Via Email TIME FOR EDWARDS' EXIT: HILLARY, BARACK FATE IN HIS HANDS By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN Published in the New York Post on January 15, 2008. The Democratic nomination for president will likely be decided by the subtle pulls of ego against duty that tug at the conscience of John Edwards. He manifestly can no longer win - but he helps Hillary Clinton if he stays in the race and boosts Barack Obama if he pulls out. After a vigorous campaign, Edwards has fallen irreparably behind - the real race is now a grueling test of strength with Clinton. The contrast between the party's insensitive establishment and the determined voices of change couldn't be clearer. Edwards divides the anti-Clinton vote - and so undermines the prospects for the changes that he so passionately demands in our government. By staying in, he's helping deliver the nomination to the person whom he has described as the defender of the status quo. The votes already cast and the poll...

Sometimes You Just Need To Indulge Yourself
2008-01-17 04:47:00
A friend of mine is on the horns of a dilemma. She is in the market for a new car and has been thinking about getting a nice semi sporty sedan. The landscape is cluttered with them lately it seems. What with BMW's, Mercedes, Audi, Infiniti and Lexus who can make a choice? Well she not only has the choice of what auto to consider but she also thinks she should be 'responsible' and consider the cost and maybe get a 'responsible' car like, oh say, a Camry. As you might imagine yours truly is not being the goodie two shoes angel on her shoulder suggesting the Camry, oh no, I am of course the little red devil telling her to indulge herself. She has said that she really likes the new IS 250 by Lexus. Now I am generally an American car guy but I have done some looking and the IS 250 is a damned fine car. The workmanship is top drawer, the performance is quite respectable and damn it just looks fucking HOT! I gathered some pics of the IS 250, interior and exterior, to try and swing her...
Dick Morris: Michigans Meaning: GOP Chaos
2008-01-17 02:37:00
Received via email. MICHIGAN'S MEANING: GOP CHAOS By DICK MORRIS & EILEEN MCGANN Published in the New York Post on January 16, 2008. The GOP race has now descended into total chaos. Mike Huckabee, John McCain and now Mitt Romney have each won an important primary or caucus and lost two others. Onetime front-runner Rudy Giuliani finished dead last in Michigan last night, falling below the somnambulant Fred Thompson and the flakey Ron Paul. The scatter-shot outcome reflects deeper divisions among the GOP's three wings: Economic conservatives are moving to Romney; social righties rallying 'round Huckabee - and the national-security types who started for Rudy have migrated to McCain in the voting so far. The various factions are growing ever more alienated from each other, demanding a level of purity from their candidates that makes consensus and unity less and less possible. Those concerned over immigration don't forgive McCain his support for the McCain-Kennedy bi...
