Female Math

Some things are so indelibly etched into our framework of electrical impulses, DNA encoding, and sweat and dreams that we rarely question their rationality, let alone their existence. There are times, however, when a psychic knock on the head causes us to stop and look at things anew,

Arrested for What?!
2007-04-30 20:17:00
Freedom of Speach is one of the constitutional guarantees that we all seem to understand and protect with a great deal of vigor. It's integrity is essential to a well-functioning democracy. While we have traded many of our freedoms (Patriot Act) for the illusion of safety, most of us would never dream of allowing the government to steal the basic right to speak out. But these abuses do occur on a regular basis.

Building Walls
2007-04-23 22:25:00
Now, it seems, we can bring peace to Baghdad by building a wall, or a series of walls. These walls, no doubt, will partition off an elite few from the violence that is ever-present in the Iraqi capital. No doubt these walls will create an oasis of peace amidst the hell of war. But we shouldn't too soon forget the sage advice of Robert Frost who penned:

John Bolton, President Bush's failed pick to be our Ambassador to the U.N., has stated in an interview with Andrew Sullivan that we are not responsible for Iraq. Somehow, the Iraqi people need to step up and make things right. So, let's review for a moment because this smacks of the nonsensical. We attacked Iraq. We have now occupied the country for around four years. We - the United States

Here's How We End This
2007-03-30 23:50:00
It seems clear to anyone with the capacity to think for themselves that Alberto Gonzales, the Attorney General, Karl Rove, GOP Puppeteer, and a few others (at least), have broken all the rules of good government. A few laws were probably broken in there, as well. In fact, what they've done appears to be more insidious than the actions of Nixon and his cronies during this country's Watergate episode.

Mankind - R.I.P.

I want to be the man standing atop the hill when the next sentient being emerges from the fog of evolution. I want to show that being all of the reasons why the great human experiment failed. Laugh. Go ahead.

Want to cheapen life, make it less than the miracle it is? Try this: believe in religion. Any of the major religions will do. Take your pick. I know it best, so I will stick with Christianity. By now many of you are enraged that I would make that claim. Read on, I promise

Footsteps
2007-03-28 00:42:00
It is very early in the morning and I have stolen Madison from her bed and taken her to the beach for a sunrise walk. The beach, like most of Hawaii, is sleeping, only a few egrets are keeping watch over us. The sun is emerging from its morning bath and the ocean is beginning its retreat from the heat until later toward evening.
Hitting Bottom
2007-03-28 00:37:00
Madison sat in a sandbox. The sandbox doubled as a volleyball court that went mostly unused. She pushed a plastic shovel into the soft, dried sand, scooped some up and placed it in a pile within easy reach. She was dreaming, playing out fantasies and creating worlds. At her age--she was 4 years old then--there was nothing more she could do.

What She Should Have Said
2007-03-27 23:02:00
Religious Fundamentalists are amazing in their ability to believe things that are completely contradictory to the teachings of Jesus Christ. In truth, more amazing is their inability to even see that their beliefs are contradictory. I might respect someone who says "I know this runs against the teachings of Jesus, but I believe it any way." But that isn't what they do.
