Piglet Out: Chelsea Clinton to Leave NBC
2012-01-07 01:38:00
Piglet, Chelsea Clinton , daughter of B.J and PIAPS, is out at NBC,from NY Post: So there was huge anticipation for her Dec. 12 debut. Time wrote, “While it was never going to have the magnitude of the moon landing, the amount of hype leading up to Chelsea Clinton’s debut . . . was akin to one small step for Chelsea, one giant leap for network television.” The Washington Post’s Hank Stuever wrote after it aired, “Either we’re spoiled by TV’s unlimited population of giant personalities or this woman is one of the most boring people of her era.” Reax,  Ann Althouse: If you accept a job that you’re not capable of doing, you’re setting yourself up. If the expectations were unrealistic, you should have said no. Don’t compound your failure as a journalist with a display of character failure. You’re a Clinton, and that brings some advantages, but there’s also the disadvantage that whatever you do may resonate with the wrong Clinton characterist...

The Ramble for 1-4-12: Iowa
2012-01-05 02:24:00
Oneanta, NY-  I’m set to deliver at Latham, NY in the morning. Sorry for the long time between posting a Ramble , but the internet connectivity is an issue again. It’s frustrating because I don’t understand WHY.  (shrug) Only one topic, today…. because frankly, it’s all I’ve had time to follow:   Iowa :Thanks to Art Smith for adding notes directly from Iowa.  I have a few thoughts of my own.The first being that anyone being shocked at Rick Santorum doing well, there, seems silly to me at least. Iowa voters are values voters and that’s one plkace where a large part of Santorum’s strengths lie. Whatever else might be said, Santorum’s nearly beating out Romney at least suggests that there’s problem with Romney in those areas where Santorum has strength. Romney is clearly weak, on family values issues. And regardless of him talking a good game, now, his record is weak as dishwater on most conservative issues. I note wit...
Hero of the Day: Sarah McKinley
2012-01-05 01:40:00
Sarah Palin warned the nation about momma grizzlies.   Well it appears that one momma grizzly is an Okie.  Perp learns lesson the hard way, from Kevin Dolar and Ryan Owens, ABC News: A young Oklahoma mother shot and killed an intruder to protect her 3-month-old baby on New Year’s Eve, less than a week after the baby’s father died of cancer. Sarah McKinley says that a week earlier a man named Justin Martin dropped by on the day of her husband’s funeral, claiming that he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello. The 18-year-old Oklahoma City area woman did not let him into her home that day. ... When Martin kicked in the door and came after her with the knife, the teen mom shot and killed the 24-year-old. Police are calling the shooting justified. video Well done We have no need to have a three month old orphan.   An armed isociety is a safe society. Link to this post!

Iowa Sighs With Relief!
2012-01-04 08:48:00
[Art Smith is an occasional contributor to BitsBlog.  Art publishes The Conservative Reader, a conservative commentary and news site.  Art lives in the Central Iowa area and spent two years as the Communications Director for the Polk County Republican Party of Iowa.] On the whole, politically involved Iowans take their First-In-The-Nation moniker seriously.  But even the move engaged activists have to join with the rest of the state in saying “Thank goodness that’s over!”. And truly only because being first comes with a significant price.  Christmas/New Year’s with family just gets a little annoying with the phone calls (my dear wife kept score of how many calls we got from each campaign), and the constant, substantively negative, ads on the radio and television.  All of that on top of the fact that many Iowans actually don’t need all of the extra whoop-de-doo because they are already meeting candidates, researching them, talking to their neighbors...

Seagulls And Other Scavengers
2012-01-04 02:07:00
There is perhaps no better comparison to what happens with governmental largess, than the seagull.  Rats with wings, they have been called… and for at least this purpose the comparison is fairly accurate. Consider the similarities between the seagull and the benefactor of monies forcibly removed from taxpayers: Self described "Community Organizer" Seagulls have a tendency to stick around where the free food is. So, too, their human counterparts. Hence the collection of seagulls around a local fast food join for example, and the collection of self described victim representatives, and community organizers  and their followers, around the seats of governmental power. It is herewith noted that the human seagulls appear to be the base of our current President, for example. Seagulls, after the many generations that have been getting their sustenance this way, know how to play this game and play it well. In the process of learning that game, of course, they have also bu...
I Come Not to Piss on Alan Colmes
2012-01-03 22:15:00
Did Allah Pundit make a rather bad metaphor are just a uniquely apt one, from Hot Air: You’d think liberals would want to pull their punches against Santorum until he’s built up enough momentum nationally to complicate life for Romney, yet here’s Colmesy throwing an uppercut straight to the groin. Pure instinctual ideological bloodlust? Or … is this actually a sly bit of jujitsu in which AC, through a calculated display of jerkiness, forces the viewer to sympathize with Santorum, thus giving him another little boost before tomorrow night? It’s good cop/bad cop co-starring Rich Lowry. Fiendishly clever! An uppercut to the groin. What the video and you decide. Free Citizens Wise Up: Gun Sales Surge
2012-01-02 23:16:00
Gee... looks to ME like he was taken at the point of a gun... Janet Shan, Hinterland Gazette: Gun sales surge in U.S. for Christmas. According to the FBI, over 1.5 million background checks on customers were requested by gun dealers to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System in December, the UK Telegraph reports. That was the highest number ever in a single month, even surpassing the record set in November. The Telegraph reports on December 23rd alone there were 102,222 background checks, making it the second busiest single day for buying guns in history. Why the surge? One reason is a knee-jerk reaction to the possibility the stalled economy will give rise to crime waves. Another reason is that people rushed to purchase guns because they believe tougher firearms laws will be introduced in the future. Firearms in the hands of law abiding civilians are very safe.   It is guns the hands of jack booted government thugs, see above, that pose the danger to the public. We ...

2012-01-01 23:35:00
From the New York Times, via the Pundit of Poca and Daily Mail (WV): Fisker Automotive is recalling all 239 of its 2012 Karma luxury plug-in hybrid cars because of a fire hazard, according to a report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Prices on the 2012 model start at $103,000, including the destination charge. In a report filed recently on the agency’s Web site, Fisker said some hose clamps were not properly positioned, which could allow a coolant leak. “If coolant enters the battery compartment an electrical short could possibly occur, causing a thermal event within the battery, including a possible fire in the worse case,” the company told the safety agency. Fisker said the problem was discovered on Dec. 16, when workers at the Valmet Automotive assembly plant in Finland noticed coolant dripping. Fisker said it was not aware of any consumer complaints, warranty claims or “any other reports related to this condition.” It said fewer than 50 ve...
2011 Blog Winners
2012-01-01 00:11:00
What I hate about the end of the year,  is the endless best of lists.  However this is good   I don’t normally link posts which make me insanely jealous, but this might help or campaign to win in 2-12,   Then, it might not.   Without further ado, Doug Ross’ list of the Top 50 blogs of 2011: Presenting: the 2011 Fabulous 50 Blog Award Winners ! #fab50 The moment you’ve been waiting for is here. The votes are in. The anxious nominees’ fingernails have been chewed down to the quick. And at least one blogger just excused himself to go to the bathroom (number two, apparently). So we’re more than pleased to announce the winners of the 2011 Fabulous 50 Blog Awards, the most prestigious new media awards in the conservative blogosphere. Or, at the very least, in the 993 area code. These awards recognize a variety of blogs and websites operating in the conservative hemisphere of the Internet, all of which have worked tirelessly to protect America from Stat...
Ron Paul’s Jeremiah Wright Problem
2011-12-31 13:23:00
If being voluntarily associated  with a racist  is bad for one politician, it should not be good for another,  yet,, Roger Simon, PJ Media: That inability to select even marginally acceptable (non-racist) employees and colleagues should, on the face of it, disqualify Paul as a candidate for president of the United States. Can you imagine such a myopic individual, such a poor judge of character, choosing justices for the Supreme Court, not to mention myriad other important positions? But that’s giving Paul the best of it. Occam’s Razor tells us Paul knew perfectly well the kind of tripe his minions were writing (if he didn’t write it himself), just as Barack Obama — despite his protestations — knew perfectly well the kind of bilge that Jeremiah Wright was spewing. In fact, they went along with it for much the same reason — political expediency — although Paul arguably believed the despicable remarks in his newsletters more than Obama ever believed Wright’s excresce...

Snark of the Year: Karen (Lonely Conservative)
2011-12-31 12:03:00
Well, the Occupy Wall Street movement, AKA Poopstock, sure is making a splash. Perhaps “splash” isn’t the best term, from the looks of things, they could all use a splash in a bathtub with a bar of soap. Reports on the ground indicate things are getting pretty ripe. TPM Fires, Hits Own Toe
2011-12-30 22:22:00
From an hysterical and deluded Talking Points Memo: Michele Bachmann Is In Love With The AR-15 Assault Rifle Quite wrong moose breaths. An assault rifle is capable of fully automatic fire, from Wikipedia: An assault rifle is a selective fire (selectable between semi-auto and fully automatic) rifle (capable of being fired from the shoulder) that uses an intermediate cartridge and a detachable magazine.[1][2][3][4] Assault rifles are the standard infantry weapons in most modern armies. The AR-15 is semi-automatic weapon, or other words a rather fancy and very ugly varmint gun, again from Wikipedia: The AR-15 is a lightweight, 5.56 mm, air-cooled, gas-operated, magazine-fed semi-automatic rifle, with a rotating-lock bolt, actuated by direct impingement gas operation. It is manufactured with the extensive use of aluminum alloys and synthetic materials. Got it? An assault rifle is capable of fully automatic fire, that pull the trigger and more than one bullet will be fire. Whereas the AR...

Snark of the Day: Anchoress
2011-12-29 21:46:00
Elizabeth Scalia, a/k/a  Anchoress has a few parting words for Speaker Tablecloth,  b/k/a Nancy Pelosi should she decide to leave Congress, link: I hate to sound presumptuous, but Madam Speaker, on behalf of many, may I say let-not-your-heart-be-troubled about relieving yourself of obligations you have more than met. Besides, if you stay much longer in congress, someone in power, somewhere — or perhaps maybe even someone in the mainstream press — may finally be inclined to launch some sort of investigation into your extremely profitable tenure in congress. If you feel you must go, please don’t remain — burdened and unhappy — for our sakes. As Dr. Seuss said to Marvin K. Mooney, “just go, go, go, please do, do do.” And don’t let the screen door hit you on the way out. Look at the bright side Mrs. Pelosi,  you have a bright future as a fashion consultant.    Like Eric Holder the sooner Mrs. Pelosi leaves, the better.   Unlike the reprobate Holder, I have no des...
Eric Holder Desparate to Divert Attention
2011-12-29 02:29:00
The worst attorney general in American history, the  reprobate Eric Holder, continues  to try to divert attention from Fast and Furious, from Tim Mak, Politico: The number of officers killed in the line of duty jumped 13 percent in 2011 compared with the year before — and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder condemned the increase as “a devastating and unacceptable trend” that he blamed on illegal firearms. The number of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty rose to 173 this year, from 153 in 2010, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund announced Wednesday. This year’s figure is 23 percent higher than 122 killed in the line of duty in 2009. Hat tip and reax:  Bob Owens The 300-plus Mexican nations that have died as a result of Operation Fast and Furious don’t seem to matter at all to Attorney General Holder, who only seems to care that Brian Terry’s inconvenient death at the hands of an FBI-informant led rip crew has become a political and crim...

The Ramble for 12-26-11 Voting Rights, Vs Ensured Leftist Rule;Lugar’
2011-12-26 19:35:00
Sloatsburg,NY– I’m here after driving most of the day. A quick run from rochester to Bethlehem Pennsylvania, then over to Quakertown for a loadfew of paper towels. – Voting rights: over at questions and observations, Bruce McQuain in his usual take no prisoners style … which, frankly I’ve always admired, proceeds to blow up the Liberal argument surrounding the voting rights act in south Carolina. Bruce McQuain If you write a check, buy liquor or any of a myriad of different transactions throughout the year, you are asked or required to produce a valid state issued ID.  Does that adversely effect the ability of minorities to write checks or buy alcohol?  Then there’s driving.  No license, no driving. Quite so. there’s only one reason that Eric holder in his happy little band of socialist minions is chasing this particular ghost.  They are black racists, seeking to ensure a socialist future. As Bruce says, this is…. …The same ...

Revenge of the Nerds
2011-12-26 00:01:00
GoDaddy gets spanked by by the nerds,  from Tom Cheredar, Venture Beat: Hosting and domain registrar company Go Daddy has lost more than 37,000 domains in the past two days due to the company’s wishy-washy stance on the Stop Online Piracy Act. The fleeing domains comes as a result of the intense backlash from customers and Internet critics after Go Daddy appeared on an official list of companies supporting SOPA. The internet responded by staging a wide-spread boycott where people would switch their domains to another registrar, which Go Daddy initially dismissed as having little impact on their business. Now it seems that assessment wasn’t entirely accurate Those who make their living off the Internet would be well advised to support the continued existence of said same. Link to this post!
A Bithead’s Christmas
2011-12-24 12:03:00
Edtor’s note: Once again as in years past, I’ve found my inbox filled with messages from longtime readers who wonder if I’m going to be re-posting “A Bithead’s Christmas ”, and begging me to do so. As I believe I’ve told you in previous years, I get more email about this one single post, these 2900 or so words, then I have about anything else written here. And it happens every single year. Either this one post is particularly good, or the rest of it is comparatively bad. You’ll forgive me if in my vanity, I believe the former. I take that they’re using Email, instead of simply leaving comments, to mean that I’ve struck a very personal and private nerve. Touching people in that fashion is a very rare thing, and one I take very seriously, so the answer to the question is “Yes, of course I’ll run it again”. Understand going in, it may not be politically correct. I seek no absolution, no forgiveness, for it’s being overtly Christian in nature, any more than I ...
Moochelle
2011-12-24 11:10:00
Steven L. Taylor, Outside the Beltwy: Hat tip: Syllable Soup First, why get all bent out of shape over an initiative to encourage healthier eating (and this isn’t the first time this has come up)? It is not as if we are talking about some sort of authoritarian push to shut down fast food joints and to force us to eat our veggies. Obama’s health food initiative is pretty typical First Lady fare and the notion that the White House would try to plug physical fitness is both bipartisan and time-honored. Second, why attack someone’s physical appearance? Further, it strikes me as a bit sexist for a male to specifically go after a woman’s rear end So how does FLOTUS (Fat Lady of the United States) get to pass herself as if she were some sort of authority on diet and fitness?    Either Moochelle’a plan for diet and fitness does not work, or she does not follow her own plan?   Which one is it? · Link to this post!
Air Jordans
2011-12-24 01:17:00
Eric’s local mall’s  doors opens at seven-thirty. At such a time, the mall is typically is only populated with mall walkers. The food court is open, but the stores are generally closed. Today, two Bitblog reporters, a/k/a breakfast patrons, reported long lines outside the local Footlocker. The stores were letting shoppers in one or two at time, and had a reported five security guards. No local incidents of which I am aware. However this may explain the mayhem: SEATTLE (AP) – The release of Nike’s new Air Jordan basketball shoes caused a frenzy at stores across the nation Friday as scuffles broke out and police were brought in to stamp out unrest that nearly turned into riots in some places. Shoppers stood in long lines through the night to get their hands on a retro version of one of the most popular models of Air Jordans ever made. The fights were reminiscent of violence that broke out in the early 1990s on streets across America as the shoes became popular targ...
The Christmas Clarion
2011-12-23 23:30:00
There is no moral imperative driving this message, tonight — no calls for a life of self sacrifice, no direct calls for intensive reflection this night, not even a real punch line of the story.  I will let you decide if these thoughts call for that. Tonight, I’m thinking back…. decades gone by, in fact. Indeed, I’m going to relate to a tale of a Christmas Eve more years ago than I care to tell you. I could not been much more than 12 or 14 years old. For some reason, and I don’t fully recall why, we happened to be at my maternal grandmother’s farmhouse.  We weren’t there for long — perhaps 20 minutes or so. I think she must have come with us to Christmas services that night, and apparently, my father was performing transportation duty. You see, my grandmother sometime in the late fifties had bought a farmhouse about 60 miles out of town, and perhaps five miles off the nearest paved road.  She was one who loved nature in all i...
Dead White Male Makes Whoopie on Goldberg
2011-12-23 12:32:00
Whoopie Goldberg and the girls of the View are  heartbroken over the death of Kim Jung Il.   Goldberg admits that socialism has utterly failed everywhere it has been tried, but continues to hold out hope, via Karen, the Lonely Conservative: No, it doesn’t matter. Because, you know, if you say that this is how our culture is and then you send your child to a Swiss boarding school- You know, this is what happens with communism. It’s a great concept. On paper it makes perfect sense. But once you put a human being in power, it shifts. We saw it in Russia, we’ve seen it all around the world. It’s nuts. But, I keep my fingers crossed. The late Dr. Milton Friedman utterly destroys Goldberg, and he did so in 1979, video: Socialism requires unselfish leaders and as Dr. Friedman points out, they simply do not exist. Please nobody tell Whoopie. Link to this post!

Newt Gingrich just got another reason for the republican wing of the republican party to support him, gift wrapped courtesy of Mitt Romney and George (41) Bush, via Allah Pundit, Hot Air: Choosing his words carefully, the former president said he knew Gingrich relatively well. “I’m not his biggest advocate,” he said. “I had a conflict with him at one point,” Bush recalled, alluding to the crucial moment in 1990 when a recession drove him to renege on his “no new taxes” pledge. He needed a bipartisan group of party leaders, including then-House Whip Gingrich, to stand with him. “He was there, right outside the Oval Office. I met with all the Republican leaders, all the Democratic leaders,” Bush recalled. “The plan was, we were all going to walk out into the Rose Garden and announce this deal. Newt was right there. Got ready to go out in the Rose Garden, and I said, ‘Where’s Gingrich?’ Went up to Capitol Hill. He was here a minute ago. Went up there and start...
Congresscritter Calls FLOTUS Fat
2011-12-22 12:03:00
About time! From Betsy Rothstein, Fishbowl DC: Hat tip: Syllable Soup [Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.)] Sensenbrenner was overheard saying that after buying all their “crap” (his word) a woman approached him and praised first lady Michelle Obama.  He told the woman that Michelle should practice what she preaches — “she lectures us on eating right while she has a large posterior herself.” ... At this juncture we’d like to point out that Sensenbrenner, who typically celebrates his birthdays by eating Cheetos and shrimp, has no business discussing fat asses while having quite the big butt himself.  And we realize that our picture is only head shot, but if this is what his noggin looks like, just imagine his backside. A note to the Congressman: “Let’s Move” could do you a WORLD of good. And lay off the Cheetos! Points: One, Ms Rothstein has no problems publishing the contents of private conversation. Evidently expectation of privacy only applies to democrats. Tw...

The Ramble for 12-21-11
2011-12-22 03:32:00
Fultonville, NY– I’m at a rest area along the New York Thruway, after having truned around 500 miles today. Not much to report, really.   Saithood?  I commend to your reading an article by Thomas Sowell. I made a point last week about Gingrich’s legislative record vs Romney’s… and Sowell does as well: While the televised debates are what gave Newt Gingrich’s candidacy a big boost, concrete accomplishments when in office are the real test. Gingrich engineered the first Republican takeover of the House of Representatives in 40 years — followed by the first balanced budget in 40 years. The media called it “the Clinton surplus” but all spending bills start in the House of Representatives, and Gingrich was Speaker of the House. Speaker Gingrich also produced some long overdue welfare reforms, despite howls from liberals that the poor would be devastated. But nobody makes that claim any more. Did Gingrich ruffle some feathers when ...

But putting in place a system in which we’re gonna start lowering health care costs and you’re never gonna go bankrupt because you get sick or somebody in your family gets sick. Making sure that we have reformed the financial system, so we never again have taxpayer-funded bailouts, and the system is more stable and secure. Occutard Movement: Running on Empty

Those who can, do.  Those who can not, protest.  Ace digs up this gem: Some of the excesses of "Occupy Wall Street" leaking out Analysis of OWS Psychological Types Shows Rank and File To Be Lost Souls Looking To Lose Themselves In Something Bigger, and “Leadership” Animated By Need For Validation and Control This is probably not surprising to you, so much as it is a sharpening of your gut-level vibe. A group called “Frontier Lab” employed market-research type surveys, peering beyond surface-level questions that pollsters usually asks, to get at what really animates OWS. Snippet: First, that many of the rank-and-file occupiers feel isolated in their lives, and appear to lack basic community ties such as are provided by participation in clubs, churches, and strong families…. They thus attach to their political causes with something like a religious fervor. For many, a commitment to “social justice” is “not the end, but rather a means to...

Eric Holder: Reprobate
2011-12-20 12:17:00

The biggest is the reckless Operation Fast and Furious that resulted in the death of Border Agent Brian Terry, and who knows how many others. Then there was the dropped case against the New Black Panthers for voter intimidation. Speaking of voters, he’s now making a concerted effort to help Democrats engage in voter fraud. Michele Bachmann Confronts Homosexual Propaganda
2011-12-20 02:55:00
There is no more cherished liberal myth than the belief that one in ten Americans are homosexual, all based on an incompetent researcher and gross misrepresentation of his published findings, from an apparently upset Alan Colmes: Michele Bachmann Calls The Kinsey Report A “Myth” When Kathy Schnell met the Bachmanns in Iowa she remarked that 10% of the population is gay. Bachmann discounted that as being a “myth” from the Kinsey Report. From Jim Burroway, Box Turtle Bulletin: And indeed, the size of Kinsey’s dataset was massive. But size doesn’t guarantee proportional representativeness. Gebhard & Johnson likened Kinsey’s approach to the brand new field of sex research to that of a “lunar astronaut,” starting with the most basic techniques, observing the result, and making modifications as he saw fit. If he felt that a group was undersampled, then he would simply find more people of that group to interview. Drs. Gebhard & Johnson called this technique “quo...

Carlisle, PA--After three highly unusual weeks of running to the west it appears as though I will be spending the remainder of this year running east.  That’s a bit more normal for this truck line.  Frankly, we’re experiencing a bit of a pre Christmas slowdown. I’m not worried.  I’ve seen this before.  From here, I will run to Schenectady, New York.  And then from there, well, we’ll find out tomorrow. Tim Tebow: Yes, I know… His team lost yesterday, but that hardly matters to my point.
