Obama seeing ghosts….
2008-05-27 16:41:00 PowerLine: Barack Obama must be the most gaffe-prone politician in memory. Today, he delivered a Memorial Day speech in New Mexico. After greeting the local Democratic Party dignitaries, he began: On this Memorial Day, as our nation honors its unbroken line of fallen heroes — and I see many of them in the audience here today — our sense of patriotism is particularly strong. Memorial Day honors those who have died in our nation’s military service. Is it possible that Obama does not know this? Sometimes the things that come out of his mouth defy understanding. Well, clearly, either Obama is saying Dead soldiers support him (Obama is a South Chicago politician after all, and may well need to explain dead voters having voted for him) or he’s being haunted by soldiers he’s dishonored. Q&O is also on this one. So is Michelle Malkin Technorati Tags: Barack Obama, Dead, dead soldiers, democratic party, heroes, memorial day, military service, nation honor... More About: Ghosts

Polygamy in Toronto, but it’s OK, they’re Muslim…&hellip
2008-05-27 15:01:00 An article I noted over the weekend in the Toronto Star peaked my interest a bit; There were no pleasantries, there was no small talk. Safa Rigby had expected to hear her husband’s voice when the phone rang one morning. Instead, the caller didn’t even bother to say hello. “You think you know your husband. You don’t know him at all,” said the man, a friend of her husband’s. “His car is parked outside my house right now. He is with my ex-wife. They just got married last week,” the man said. It took a minute for the news to sink in. Then she called her husband of 14 years, demanding to know if what she had just been told was true – that while she spent a year in Egypt raising their four children in a more Islamic environment, he had used it as an opportunity to marry not just one, but two other women in Toronto. “Yes, I’m married,” he said, quashing all her dreams of their future together. He told her he was married in... More About: Muslim , Polygamy

Obama and the lobbyist
2008-05-27 13:13:00 Look, I’ve been saying for months now, that once the people figure out that Obama comes from a long line of South Chicago crooked pols, all but the hardcore Democrat support will wither. But as of yesterday morning, we seem to have some evidence in Michael Isikoff’s investigative piece in Newsweek, even though Newsweek tried to bury the story. There does, however, seem to be a leak or two in the dike, and I doubt even Newsweek has the right amount of thumbs to plug them all. In short, the story comes down to a rather interesting relationship between Obama, and David Axlerod. Says Isikoff: When Illinois utility Commonwealth Edison wanted state lawmakers to back a hefty rate hike two years ago, it took a creative lobbying approach, concocting a new outfit that seemed devoted to the public interest: Consumers Organized for Reliable Electricity, or CORE. CORE ran TV ads warning of a “California-style energy crisis” if the rate increase wasn’t approved—but wit... More About: Lobbyist

Memorial Day
2008-05-26 15:34:00 I’ve never tripped a booby trap, or stood upon a mine, but I have seen what happens, when you’re out there on the line. Some men die real hard, others not so bad, but t really doesn’t matter, when you’ve given all you had. I was never wounded, so I never felt the shock, or felt the pain rip through my body, while calling our for Doc. Sometimes the pain is awful, it can make you want to dry, that pain can get so bad at times, you might pray to God to die. I know I was lucky, that it never happened to me, and that someone else’s blood, was shed to keep me free. -Ronald Murray Copyright © 2008 BitsBlog. This Feed is for personal non-commercial use only. 2008-05-25 21:10:00 Glenn: THE CNN FOLKS emailed this tidbit from Howard Kurtz’s Reliable Sources: KURTZ: But Marie Cocco, are the media being tarred with a pretty broad brush here because of the out-of-bounds comments of a certain number of loudmouths? COCCO: Well, this is amplified on the Internet, which, you know, may not be the broadcast media, but it is part of the media of this campaign. And if you went to the Internet — you know, we all know about the false Muslim e-mails that go around about Barack Obama. But if you ever saw the language, the vulgarity, the vitriol that is hauled at Hillary Clinton by liberal Democrats, by the liberal blogs, largely by, frankly, Obama supporters, you’d be appalled. The Texas CPS
2008-05-25 19:13:00 I’ve pretty much held silence on this FLDS thing, but Ive started to notice a pattern in the labeling of the thing which I find disturbing. Witness this write-up from Mary Flood in the Houston Chronicle: Many lawyers for children and parents in a Texas polygamist sect are boiling mad about the growing number of legal errors they claim the state has made in seizing and holding more than 460 children. From the way officials handled an April anonymous phone tip about a sexually abused girl allegedly at the sect’s ranch, the seizure of the children, the court hearings and the questioning of children and parents alike, many attorneys are crying foul. Well of course those charged are crying foul. When does that NOT happen? I’m sure if we do a study on the reactions of those charged with ANY crime, or subject to ANY governmental action that they’re going to be angry about it, and think themselves the wronged party, despite their having been guilty as charged. RFK wasn’t a gaffe. It was a talking point.
2008-05-25 12:39:00 Mrs. Clinton is not a smart woman, but the Clintons are creatures of habit. Mrs. Clinton is the habit of repeating her lies. As she did with the Tuzila lie. the Clintons will lie until caught and then attribute to last incidence, the one that got caught, lie to something like fatigue. Same pattern, this time with the RFK lie is caught by, Carol Platt Liebau, Townhall: Then, on the other hand, there’s the position that what Hillary said was wrong. Within that rubric, there’s a first position – that the comment was simply a gaffe, brought about by fatigue, etc. But if that’s the case, how is it that she came to make almost exactly the same comment to TIME magazine back in March? And looking at her remark yesterday – “We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California” — it’s noteworthy that she doesn’t mention that he was killed after winning a contested primary . . . she simpl... The reaction to Clinton’s RFK statement: Proof the Democrats have kno
2008-05-24 16:30:00 I note David’s post on the Hillary Clinton comment on the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy. I note also, a good amount of traffic on the web about it. Unlike some of the traffic that I’ve been seeing, I’m actually willing to give Mrs. Clinton the benefit of the doubt as to whether or not there was any malice involved with the comment. I mean, look, I could be wrong, but the situation seemed less a genuine threat and far more a simple loose brain connection. I recognize that this is a little unusual, that I’m giving Hillary Clinton the benefit of the doubt on much of anything, but there it is; in my assessment, the woman simply screwed up. I think her trouble is, her reputation; She’s got far too much history for most folks to see this as anything but a threat. What is interesting to me, is the number of Democrats who are no longer willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, as regards that reputation. Where is the vehement protest, the charges of... Their annual convention is going on as I write. Some highlights: Bob Barr, most famous for opposing medical marijuana and for his role in the impeachment of Bill Clinton, is running to be its presidential nominee. So, possibly, is Tucker Carlson, the bowtied guy who filled the Pat Buchanan chair on Crossfire. Richard Viguerie, who has sent me approximately 6,000 emails since railing that Rudy McRomney wasn’t conservative enough at CPAC 2007, has just delivered the Keynote Address. The text is available at Richard Viguerie’s Conservative HQ.com. What in the world is going on here? Holy Cow! The Brooklyn Bridge is 125
2008-05-24 07:25:00 It is not everyday I dedicate a post to a bridge, but not every bridge is the Brooklyn Bridge . The Brooklyn Brdige turns 125 today. A celebration is in order, Brooklyn Daily Eagle: BROOKLYN — In 1883, New Yorkers and Brooklynites took the first step toward uniting their two cities when the Brooklyn Bridge, then called the East River Bridge, opened to the public, bringing to life the dreams and plans of John and Washington Roebling. At the time, the bridge was for walkers, cable cars and horse-drawn vehicles, to be joined in time by an elevated line that some people still remember and, of course, by cars. Mrs. Clinton’s last gaffe
2008-05-24 01:45:00 Mrs. Clinton ’s last campaign gaffe, Geoff Earl, New York Post: “My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don’t understand it.” Taylor Marsh: Is this thing over yet? That’s what many are feeling today, as everyone is as close to the breaking point with fatigue as it comes. We need a long weekend. Clinton’s statement today reveals our collective fatigue and was unbelievably unfortunate. Looking at her make her statement of regret you can see her pain and that she is devastated by what she said, which is clear in the statement below from the Clinton camp. But anyone believing Clinton was suggesting that an assassination could vault her into… never mind, I can’t even finish the statement. It’s just too ludicrous. John McCain has some clues. BO has none.
2008-05-23 15:57:00 WRT to Bit’s post about John Hawkins of the morning. We have seen eight years of presidential leaahrship without a moral compass, the Clinton adminstration. I do not, and will not agree, with John McCain on all issues. However McCain does have a moral compass and is willing to take leadership positions. Two recent examples, McCain was one of the few senators who opposed the bloated farm bill. With farm profits up, food prices soaring, and BO campaigning a promise of national hunger, he still supported the farm bill. BO put pandering to Iowa ahead of the national interst. McCain also was one fo the few senators to oppose Jim Webb’s new G.I bill. This is what BO had to say about the bill on the floor of the Senate: I respect sen. John McCain’s service to our country. He is one of those heroes of which I speak. But I can’t understand why he would line up behind the President in his opposition to this GI bill. I can’t believe why he ... More About: Clues
‘Right Wing News’ Withdraws McCain Support
2008-05-23 13:53:00 Mmmfph. I was afraid of this, though I must say it came sooner than I figured it. I’ve never been a fan of John McCain. Not only is he not a conservative, he may have done more damage to the conservative movement than any other Republican over the last few years. Look back at the Gang-of-14, global warming, McCain-Feingold, coddling terrorists at Gitmo, illegal immigration — on and on and on, and you’ll remember John McCain working feverishly with liberals to defeat conservatives. That’s the opening of a post that’ll have the whole ’sphere talking, very shortly. It’s posted by John Hawkins, over at Right Wing News , entitled “Why I Will No Longer Support John McCain For President” What pushed John over the edge? McCain’s on- again off- again support for Amnesty, which is otherwise somewhat laughingly called “comprehensive immigration reform” Put very simply: John McCain is a liar. He’s a man without honor,...

Nightly Ramble: Memorial Day thoughts about heroism
2008-05-22 23:02:00 Single issue Ramble tonight. I want to speak briefly about Memorial day which comes up this weekend. It’s always been a special day for me, because honoring our vets has always held special meaning for me; it’s a lesson my parents instilled very well, indeed. It was brought home to me, as I was recently looking at pictures from a trip we made through the Gettysburg PA area some years ago. It’s a particularly meaningful thing, when you’re standing on that field…. Something that goes well beyond the cold facts and figures about who died from what company, how old they were, or even where they were from. It’s more a feeling you get…. You can sense it… not unlike being at Ground Zero in lower Manhattan, or visiting Arlington National Cemetery. I’m told Omaha Beach, and Pearl Harbor and many other sites are the same way. I’ve been at the funerals of firemen and policemen who died in their line of duty, and that was also remar... More About: Thoughts , Memorial Day , Heroism
Oil Bubble Bursting? Sure looks that way
2008-05-22 21:46:00 I’ve been saying this oil bubble we’re in is about to burst. I said just this morning: Did you notice the prediction for $12/gallon gas? That’s usually the first sign of a bubble bursting. Just file it away for now. Apparently, you’re not going to have to file it for long, now. The Telegraph: The perfect storm that has swept oil prices to $132 a barrel may subside over the coming months as rising crude supply from unexpected corners of the world finally comes on stream, just as the global economic downturn begins to bite. The forces behind the meteoric price rise this spring are slowly receding. The article goes in in some by market and by source detail, on what’s happening. 2008-05-22 15:02:00 Got lots of mail last night on my “How to raise fuel prices” post of yesterday. Actually, that’s why my posting was a little lighter than usual, this morning… I was pouring over the mail. Some of it was pointing me to Bruce’s post of yesterday, about that congressional show hearing… particularly this part, which Bruce quotes: “If the nation set a goal of increasing domestic production by 2 (million) to 3 million barrels a day by opening up new sources of exploration and production, we could demonstrate to the world that we are in control of our own destiny,” Shell Oil Co. President John Hofmeister told a Senate panel today. Granting greater access, Hofmeister argued, coupled with Congress’ previous actions to increase use of renewable fuels and to raise fuel mileage requirements, could help avoid awkward scenarios in which U.S. leaders ask producing nations to produce more and get “an unresponsive reply.” Many of th...
