Abortion Kills
2011-10-18 23:56:00 From a brain dead Karen Finney, Hill: In America, women’s lives are expendable. That’s the latest message from the Tea Party Republicans’ war on women. Sound extreme? So does the idea that a woman could be denied a legal procedure that could save her life, not because she or her doctor made the personal, private decision about her healthcare, but because a member of Congress (possibly not even her own representative) said so. For the seventh time last week, led by Eric Cantor, congressional Republicans (aided and abetted by 15 Democrats) decided that rather than have a vote or serious conversation on job creation, their time was best spent voting on H.R. 358. Having nothing to do with Americans’ most urgent priorities, H.R. 358 does two things: prohibits federal funds from being used toward any healthcare plan that covers abortion care services (despite the fact that that is already law); and permits hospitals to deny a woman a legal medical procedure even if her life is at ... Breakfast Scramble (Thursday)
2011-01-20 11:00:00 The smartest democrat in Congress, Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (TX -18), from Philip Klein, American Spectator: Arguing that the Commerce Clause provides the constitutional basis for ObamaCare, Jackson Lee said repealing the law by passing Republicans’ H.R. 2 violates both the Fifth Amendment’s right to due process and the Fourteenth Amendment’s equal protection clause. “The Fifth Amendment speaks specifically to denying someone their life and liberty without due process,” she said in a speech on the House floor moments ago. “That is what H.R. 2 does and I rise in opposition to it. And I rise in opposition because it is important that we preserve lives and we recognize that 40 million-plus are uninsured. She continued, “Can you tell me what’s more unconstitutional than taking away from the people of America their Fifth Amendment rights, their Fourteenth Amendment rights, and the right to equal protection under the law?” In the Air For... Breakfast Scramble (Late Wednesday)
2011-01-19 23:20:00 Special better late then never edition. Dumping on Dupnik, I admit it cheap amusement, but I do enjoy it, form Gregory Kane, Washington Examiner It just gets better and better with Sheriff Clarence Dupnik of Pima County, Ariz., doesn’t it? The city of Tucson is in Pima County. Friends and relatives of the victims of the Jan. 8 shootings that left six dead and at least 14 wounded should regret that Dupnik is their sheriff. ... “Sheriff Dupnik would do far better to spend his time figuring out how Jared Loughner managed to buy a gun last November to commit his crimes,” opined John Fund in a commentary for the Wall Street Journal’s Web site Joe the Ho, Joe Scarborough the former conservative rants, via Bruce McQuain, Questions and Observation: And who on the right is really stupid enough to not understand that the political movement that has a near monopoly on gun imagery may be the first focus of an act associated with gun violence? Bit’s Travels Jan 19 2001
2011-01-19 13:16:00 (East Syracuse, NY)— Came in from Carlisle, PA last night, and spent the night at Binghamton, NY. I can’t say I’m overly impressed with this truck; the steering feels a little vauge, especially when the roads are wet. Past that, (and a lown out brake line on the trailer last night) things have been fairly uneventful on the road. They called me a couple days ago and told me I’d be long haul going forward. I didn’t get nearly the time to prepare I would ahve liked, but that’s this biz, I guess. Donna had to pack me a care kit to keep me going for a while. I’ll have a chance to get better set up this weekend for next week, I suppose… but for now, I have clothing my meds and so on, for a week. Doing yet another road test for a prospective employee, this morning, here in East Syracuse. I guess this means they trust my judgment which is encouraging, but it does screw up my miles and occasionally raises my blood pressure. New guys usually ar... More About: Travels

2011-01-18 11:00:00 WaPo to Arizona, take a hike, the Washington Post has her priorities and the people of Arizona are clearly note one of them, from Philip Rucker, Washington Post: TUCSON – Even as Rep. Gabrielle Giffords shows signs of a near miraculous recovery, with doctors upgrading her condition from critical to serious Sunday, a little-known statutory provision in Arizona state law could endanger the Democratic congresswoman’s hold on her seat through what doctors say will be a protracted medical struggle. A statute buried in Arizona law states that if a public officeholder ceases to “discharge the duties of office for the period of three consecutive months,” the office shall be deemed vacant – at such time a special election could be called to fill the vacancy. I can sympathize with the citizens of Arizona. My former governor, Blindman Patterson screwed me out of representation in the House for near a year because he refused to call a special election with Eric ... More About: Breakfast
Jackson Says King’s Dream ‘Under Attack’
2011-01-18 01:40:00 Martin Luther King : “I”I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” Jesse Jackson , video: If you pass comment on the Reverend Jackson’s distinct lack of character, he will call you a racist. It is race merchants like Jackson who are killing King’s dream, circa 1963 version. About half the murder victims cited by Jackson are black, as are about half of the murders. So who would bear the burnt of Jackson’s demand for more gun control, the black criminals who don’t obey the laws in the first place or their black victim? I don’t pretend to be able to follow the trajectory of King’s philosophy, where it went, or where it would have gone. However I do fully endorse King vision of August 28, 1963. Dr. King’s “I have a dream” speech may the most eloquent speech ever gi... More About: Dream
Breakfast Scramble (Monday)
2011-01-17 11:00:00 No Loughning matter, from Kim Strassel,Wall Street Journal: One of the tragedies of tragedies is that some politicians just can’t resist the urge to use them for political gain. The Tucson shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords first inspired liberals to score points against the tea party and is now inspiring a new round of political calls for gun control. Within days of the Arizona tragedy, New York Democratic Rep. Carolyn McCarthy renewed her call for a ban on high-capacity clips and said she’ll reintroduce legislation. She’s been joined by fellow New York Rep. Peter King, one of the only outspoken Republicans on gun control, who said he wants a new law that would make it a crime to knowingly carry firearms within 1,000 feet of high-ranking officials (which conveniently includes congressmen.) In the Senate, New Jersey Democrat Frank Lautenberg intends to pursue parallel legislation to Ms. McCarthy’s on clips that carry more than 10 rounds of ammunition. And Ne... Loughner And the Political Repercussions of It All
2011-01-16 17:24:00 I have very few conclusions to draw about this entire sordid Loughner affair, but there are a number of things that should be commented on. There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that Jared Lougner is a nut case. Of course, that should go as the first point in any attack such as the one out in Arizona. But perhaps some comparisons are in order here to put a frame around this situation. Might we reasonably say that the suicide bombers surrounding Islam, also lack sanity? There is some argument back and forth on that particular point among the supposed experts, but I feel it’s safe to say that such actions as a suicide bomber would take would qualify one for the “I love me” jacket at the very least. Notice , please, that thus far I have not made any mention whatsoever of political persuasion, one way or the other. The point that I am making here, is that regardless of one’s political persuasion, one can be insane. Amusingly, in at least one discu... More About: Political

Breakfast Scramble (Sunday)
2011-01-16 11:54:00 Lunacy, from Susie Madrak Democracy Now: We speak with Tucson shooting survivor Eric Fuller. A 63-year-old disabled veteran, Fuller had campaigned for Arizona Democrat Rep. Gabrielle Giffords in her reelection campaign and was at the supermarket in Tucson on Saturday to meet with her. He was shot in the knee and also wounded in the back. “It looks like Palin, Beck, Sharron Angle and the rest got their first target,” Fuller says. “Their wish for Second Amendment activism has been fulfilled.” [includes rush transcript] Granted Fuller was a partisan before he got shot. Not that there is anything wrong with that. However did Fuller become a psychic after he got shot? Lunacy, gun version, from Susie Madrak ,Crooks & Lairs: First of all, this isn’t my idea. It’s my oldest son’s, and he told me about it a few years ago when he was trying to figure out a way he could make money. (Did I mention the kid is a genius? If you use this... WTF is Blogging?
2009-12-18 15:08:00 , www.JonesToTheGrindstone I couldn’t resist using the popular Internet abbreviation, “WTF,” to play-up a question with a complex answer: WTF is blogging? Yes, “what the flip” (HA!) is blogging? the good with the bad Well, here is Dictionary.com’s definition, “To write entries in, add material to, or maintain a weblog.” And a weblog is listed as, “A website that displays in chronological order the postings by one or more individuals and usually has links to comments on specific postings.” In general, it seems like Dictionary.com doesn’t have a complete explanation for the meaning of blogging. It is uncertain that anyone has the complete answer, but there are two agreed upon markers: words and posting online. But, is blogging journalism? To find out what disease a patient does have, doctors test for what diseases a patient doesn’t have—to cross it off the list of possibilities. In the same vein, is blogging not journalism? Snark of the Day: Keith Olbermann
2009-12-17 23:06:00 Ok Keith Olbermann is an arrogant ass, but even an ass can have his day. BYE BYE, SEIU: When Andy Stern starts making this much noise, it logically raises the question is, as David says earlier today, the SIEU, Obama’s biggest supporter… (And Stern, remember has been the most frequent visitor to the White House. has been lost to Obama. Dan Riehl has this one correct: Today, the Democrats are reaping what Stern, the Phoenix Group, Kos, and others sowed, as they were always out of step with the majority of the country. These are precisely the fights, the changes, they wanted when taking over the DNC. They’ve been plotting it for years. They’re there. And if they fail, the Democrats, the Netroots and all the associated characters will find themselves in disarray. I have always said here that the Democrats would runs smack dab into the teeth of reality. Even excluding the fiscal reality of their Neo-social... More About: Thursday
Obama Loses the SEIU
2009-12-17 17:17:00 From a letter from Andy Stern to the members of the Service Employees International Union, to her members: SEIU does not accept that this monumental effort – that this reform that is so necessary to the health and wellbeing of our economy, our families and our future – can be over without a fight. A fight to make it work for you and your families. The SEIU was instrumental in getting Barack Obama elected. Ohama has declared health care reform is number one objective, and now his lost is one ally. Over three left in office, and Obama may reached lame duck status Health care reform was Obama biggest objective of his presidency. It was to be his legacy It wzs a the battle of and for his presidency. Obama tried to win the battle of his presidency by voting present. Mean while Lisa Solod Warren, writing in the Puffington Post, identifies Obama’s problem: The truth is that a couple of people–and I am not even sure, always who the...

BS, be Gone!
2009-12-16 14:25:00 By Karen Jones, JonesToTheGrindstone.com I am building a catalog of tools and equipment to better ease us through our days—as we live amongst those who just don’t “get” us, want to “get” us, or even notice us as needing to be “gotten”. On top of the list of regular disturbances to be eased is sifting through all the bullshit that comes out of people’s mouths. Going without those biting mental anthills would be great! What I propose is this: a “passive bullshit detector”. Wouldn’t that be fantastic?! These detectors would come in many different forms: wall mounts, desk art, paperweights, and those clips that latch into a car air louvers. From fruits to florals, many different fragrance cartridges would be available. When bullshit is sensed, a pleasant scent would release into the air. The scented spray announces the whiff of fabricated nonsense is in the air. The owner of this detector could confidently relax knowing that, “yes,” she just experien...
Gone with the Wind @ 70
2009-12-16 00:33:00 Why is gender feminism dying? Because the men the gender feminists demand are nothing like the men women want. Robert Stacy McCain explores Gone with the Wind at seventy. Nightly Ramble Tuesday
2009-12-15 22:02:00 Welcome, one in all, to the most intense nightly read anywhere on the Blogosphere… the BitsBlog Nightly Ramble ALL IN ON HEALTHCARE: Some interesting thoughts on this, from the Washington Examiner this morning. Look, guys, they know they’re going to lose big time at the next election because of their going “all in” on the government takeover of health care. The vast majority of the American people don’t want a government takeover of healthcare They know this. At this stage of the game though, even assuming a Democrat party withdrawal and having it labeled a failure, could the price possibly get any higher? And you see, real socialist ideologues don’t really care about the price. The neo- socialist dogma considers being voted out of office a small price to pay for the government intervention in freedom. Health care is no exception. Another point; Even assuming they don’t manage to get the full government takeover, euphemis...
