Mikhail Bakunin quote on the state
2007-05-15 17:31:00
“Who says Stat e , says power, oppression, exploitation, injustice-all these established as the prevailing system and as the fundamental conditions of the existing society. The State never had a morality, and can never have one. Its only morality and justice is its own advantage, its own existence, and its own omnipotence at any price. Before these interests, ...

Sidney Shaigan - Why I am not joining the anarchists? cause
2007-05-14 15:42:00
I decided to help my good mate Richard out with his site, so I decided to write this short article for him and for all you anarchists out there to critique. I strongly believe in the anarchism concept and I truly believe it is the closest thing to heaven on Earth. However, these are the ...

Associated Press - Study Finds Lapses in Battlefield Ethics
2007-05-14 07:19:00
http://tinyurl.com/3a3g3p I know I really shouldn’t be surprised, but it still makes me sick that this sort of culture exists in any sort of institution. Is this what people are talking about when they say they ’support the troops’? The worst statistic here would probably have to be this one: – Only 47 percent of the soldiers and ...

Anarchism, in the present
2007-05-13 14:37:00
A nice little reminder from http://anarchistnews.org to keep concentrating on the present and, while keeping an eye on the future, knowing that anarchist institutions always exist within society, they just need help to be brought out fully: Anarchism , in the present by fuckauthority If you were to ask an anarchist at random to define the word ?anarchy,? chances ...

Should anarchists use violence to fight oppression?
2007-05-06 19:16:00
As I discussed in my post about the myths people associate with anarchism, violence is not a necessary part of anarchist thought. Certainly violence against others is hardly ever condoned by anarchists. Why would a political philosophy which respects the rights of the individual above all else commit acts of violence or terror? Personally, I believe violence or terror used to further the revolution is really counter-productive. It seems to me that pacifism should be an integral part of anarchism. As the character Winston Smith in George Orwell’s 1984 says while being tortured by Big Brother, there’s nothing worse than physical pain. Physical pain is the tool of oppression. Anarchists should draw the line strictly and never condone it. Only in rare cases where violence against other people is required for self-defense, is it ever justified. But should this even be considered violence?   Anarchism has been associated with violence and terror in the past, however, and this is very...

V for Vendetta, shouldn?t that be A for Anarchy?
2007-05-06 17:20:00
Here’s a pretty cool video about some New York anarchists having a rally against the misrepresentation of the original V for Vend etta comics by the anarchist Alan Moore. The movie V for Vendetta barely mentions anarchism, yet that’s pretty much what the comic book’s about. Was the subject too hot for Time Warner? I’m amazed ...

Ads on this blog: my reasons
2007-05-06 17:15:00
I’m aware that some anarchists will find me putting ads on my blog to be quite hypocritical, after all most anarchist sites don’t have any ads. I certainly believe it requires some justification. I’ll start by saying, I would really rather not put any ads on it, and I am genuinely against supporting corporations, and capitalism ...

Anarchism versus Marxism
2007-05-05 12:34:00
Although anarchism and Marxism are both socialist political theories, and they share the view that a communal, participatory, voluntary, de-centralised society is an end goal worth pursuing, they differ in many respects, and should not be confused. Of course they are far from internally homogeneous theories themselves, but I’ll leave that issue to another entry. They tend to differ more when in comes to means, rather than ends. So they both criticise capitalist economy, bourgeois society, and the liberal democratic state, and they have both looked to the working class movement to bring their respective visions into fruition. But there differences are not trivial: for example, one of the most basic distinctions between Marxism and anarchism is that Marxists generally do not have an issue with organising themselves into hierarchies, whilst anarchists cannot countenance hierarchical structure within their organisations, they must always be based on equality and pure democracy.   In...

Adam Parsons: The End of Economic Growth
2007-05-03 08:31:00
An excellent article by Adam Parsons on the deceitfulness of the World Bank, income inequality, corporate CEO pay excesses, and the illusion that economic growth solves the problem of poverty. Here’s the article: ?Econ omic growth cuts poverty!? is forever the inveterate, unrelenting dictum of World Bank statisticians.  These four simple words, stale and contentious as they are, were in ...

I’m very glad I stumbled across your site, and pleased to be on board. A political ...

Russia?s heavy-handed approach in Chechnya
2007-04-26 23:03:00
Why has Russia been unwilling to grant Chechnya independence? Is Russia justified in the approach it has taken to preserve its territorial integrity?   The official reason for Russian government?s desire to retain Chechnya as a part of the Russian Federation it well expressed by former Russian President Boris Yeltsin: ?We cannot stand idly by while a ...

Chapters for book on anarchism
2007-04-24 16:31:00
As I mentioned when I started this blog, I plan on writing a book on anarchism as a tool to convince others of the evils of state capitalism and the merits of an anarchistic society. As of yet I haven’t made much progress on it but I have got a general structure down. It will be organised ...
