AFA Releases List of Gay Friendly Television Sponsors
2007-05-16 17:09:00 I love it when these fundies come out with these lists! Not only did the AFA provide a list of the top ten gay friendly sponsors, but they included contact information for each corporation on the list. Thanks to their hard work, including the creation of a formula to calculate the "supportiveness" of these companies, we now know what programs to watch and who to contact at each of the offending corporations to congratulate them on not cowering to right-wing pressure. In case you're wondering, the programs listed were..."Ugly Betty" "ER" "Desperate Housewives" "The Simpsons" "The Office""Brothers & Sisters" "Grey's Anatomy" "The Class"On another note, doesn't it make you wonder why these folks spend so much time watching programs which depict positive homosexual models? Well, I suppose, in their case...it's a dirty job, but someone had to do it.**Surf on over to AFA's site and use the information they provided. Contact the corporations and commend them on their stance. The ... More About: Television , Sponsors , List , Sponsor , Friendly
AFA Still Badgering the Ford Corporation
2007-05-16 16:39:00 Hold on to your seats...Ford has hosted yet another gay oriented function, and the AFA is all up in arms over it! Once again, we should all watch for the sky to fall, lol! Here are the details..."Ford, taking an in-your-face attitude, continues its support forhomosexual marriage and the homosexual agenda by making yet another contributionto a homosexual event. Meanwhile, the Ford family is at odds with oneanother over company's future."The Ford Corporation contributed to the 2007 Out and Equal Workplace Summitt, and to PFLAG, and the AFA insists that this is the reason Ford's earnings have taken a hit..."While Ford is losing billions and laying off scores of thousands of theiremployees, the company still has money to give to help promote homosexualmarriage and the homosexual lifestyle. In April, Ford sales dropped 13% over thesame period in 2006. This was the 10th month out of the last 12 (since AFAbegan the boycott) that Ford sales have been down."My question is this...has an... Yolanda King Dies
2007-05-16 16:36:00 Yolanda King , eldest daughter of Martin Luther King, Jr., died yesterday...ironically, the same day as Jerry Falwell. CNN reports that the family is uncertain as to the cause of death, but certain relatives believe her death was most likely the result of heart failure. Following in the footsteps of her father, Yolanda worked tirelessly to develop and maintain racial harmony. Those efforts resonated in a statement released by the King family..."She was an actress, author, producer, advocate for peace and nonviolence, whowas known and loved for her motivational and inspirational contributions tosociety," Funeral arrangements have yet to be disclosed, but sentiments of condolence and tokens of love for the entire King family have been pouring in. Take a moment to reflect on her life and the lives of both her parents today and remember all they have accomplished for civil rights. More About: Anda , Land , Olanda , Dies
Westboro to Picket Falwell's Funeral
2007-05-16 16:35:00 Is there any group that this church (and I use that term very loosely) doesn't hate? According to their latest manifesto (and, no...I won't give you a link to their site), not only will the extreme, batsh*t crazies at Westboro Baptist be picketing Falwell 's funeral, but they've given a litany of reasons as to why he is now burning in hell. I was never a fan of Falwell, but no grieving family deserves the kind of treatment that Westboro is notorious for giving. Not only do they regularly picket the funerals of fallen soldiers, but they do so bearing signs reading such hateful things as, "Thank God For Dead Soldiers." Their behavior is abominable and heartless. Mr. Phelps, your behavior bears absolutely no resemblance to the love that Christians and their God are supposed to have. Either walk the talk or shut up! Someone Needs to Nudge Rev. Sheldon...
2007-05-16 16:29:00 Ever since his appearance on the Glenn Beck show, Sheldon hasn't posted anything new (except a 'statement' on the passing of Jerry Falwell, that is) on his Traditional Values Coalition website. In a way, I'm relieved since he is one of the most unhinged fundies I've come across. I don't normally advocate giving attention to certain nutcases, but Sheldon is still running an article (if you can call it that) about "Homosexual Urban Legends." It's really worth reading, even if it makes your blood boil, because you can't fight successfully unless you understand what the other side believes. I Told You...Ten Little Monkeys
2007-05-16 16:23:00 I make it a point not to watch any news after a certain hour, because I tend to get so riled up that I can't sleep, lol. So, when I started my usual morning news round-up, I found several reports and accounts of last night's Rethug debate. Since Fox News hosted and moderated the debate, I opted to use CBS as my main source, and what I read simply boggled my mind. I expected the usual "one-liners," and sophomoric one-upmanship, but last night's exchanges were just ridiculous. CBS reports..."Tuesday night's feistydebate saw several sharp exchanges as veiled criticisms replaced by directlanguage, and motives questioned, as well as several sharp exchanges. And whilethere were no clear-cut winners, there were memorable moments and perhaps oneloser, at least in the eyes of many in the audience."One such exchange was between Rudy Giuliani and Ron Paul, in which Paul suggested that U.S. foreign policy was to blame for the 9/11 attacks. GOP Debate to Air on Fox News Tonight
2007-05-15 21:49:00 I suppose it's my Early Childhood Education background, but I can't seem to get this little song out of my head when I think about this debate.Ten little monkeys sitting in a tree...teasing Mr. Alligator, "You can't catch me, you can't catch me!"In a sense, that's what you'll be able to see tonight on Fox News when all ten candidates take their places at their lecterns tonight. It seems that debates have become less and less influential and relevant. Instead, we'll have ten pretty faces, all trying to "one-up" each other. Don't get me wrong, the Democrats are just as bad when it comes to building up their images while saying absolutely nothing. Call me a cynic, but these endless debates have really begun to serve very little purpose. If you really want to know where a candidate stands on any particular issue, Google them and check out not only their personal campaign websites, but any and all public statements they might have made. Concerned Women Are Concerned About Television
2007-05-15 21:34:00 Again, I have to shake my head at this one. Concerned Women of America are all upset about what they deem to be unsuitable programming on TV. They believe that family friendly programming is dying, and blame the FCC and the various politics surrounding the issues of programming and ratings...not to mention the advertising dollars that inevitably flow based on the FCC's choices. That said, I've a couple of points to make.First, parents have the responsibility to monitor what their children are watching...period. As the saying goes, the buck stops with them. Too many parents are using television programs containing adult themes and language as convenient babysitters. To those parents I say, do your job and stop blaming others for what your children are watching!Second, CWA seems to be walking a fine line on the issue of censorship. I firmly believe that NOTHING should be censored because, one day, someone will decide something you say, read, watch or otherwise enjoy is offens... More About: Television , Sion , Visi
Yep, the Sky is Falling
2007-05-15 21:22:00 My favorite little nutcases over at WorldNetDaily have posted an article involving a questionnaire given to 19 candidates for open positions in the Idaho Supreme Court. The organization responsible for the questionnaire, the Idaho Values Alliance, presented some of the following questions..."Question 1 asked whether the candidates would agree with the statement:"The Founders of the state of Idaho were grateful to God for our freedom."Question 4 asked the candidates to agree or disagree with the statement:"All political power is inherent in the people, not the courts."Not one of the candidates responded to the questionnaire, which has the Idaho organization up in arms. Frankly, from what I see...the questions are so loaded that no candidate in any race could possibly come up with an answer that wouldn't offend someone. As for WND's assertion that the candidates are refusing to endorse the Constitution...Grow up and stop twisting the truth! More About: Fall
Jerry Falwell Dies at Age 73
2007-05-15 21:09:00 CNN is reporting that Jerry Falwell has died due to heart failure. While I and others who share my points of view have consistently disagreed with Falwell's viewpoints, I think it's appropriate that we take time for a moment of silence on his behalf. I don't relish the death of any of my adversaries, and I extend my condolences to the entire Falwell family. More About: Dies , Well
Women Who Use Their Brains Are a Threat?
2007-05-15 17:09:00 The president of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Paige Patterson, is in an uproar over women choosing to exist in places other than the kitchen...barefoot and pregnant, that is. In an article featured on OneNewsNow, another bunch of unhinged wingnuts, Patterson refers to the fact that 60% of college students are female, and Americans should be deeply concerned over this fact...a fact I couldn't validate, mind you. His biggest bone of contention is that leadership roles will be relinquished to women rather than the long held precedent of men shouldering the leadership burdens. In fact, Patterson makes the statement..."Mom and hot apple pie have been replaced by institutional daycare centers andcold apple turnovers at McDonald's."I can't help but roll my eyes dramatically at that statement, but his next assertion is even more insane."A biblical model of the family is key to restoring social order in theworld, stated the Southern Baptist leader. CWA Caught Twisting the Truth
2007-05-10 19:08:00 On the front page of Concerned Women of America's site today is a story about a California football player who was released by his team because of his Christianity."Christian wide receiver Troy Vermillion has been released from the roster of theColorado Ice, an indoor football team based in the Greeley, Colorado area. Therelease came following a disagreement between Vermillion and the coaching staff over pornographicfilms shown on the team bus. Vermillion, wishing not to be exposed to thematerial, asked to be allowed to travel in other team vehicles, but was denied.Instead, he was released. Hilda Vermillion, Troy?s wife, shares his story; the storyof a Christian husband and father paying a high price for his efforts to honorChrist. WND Goes After Amazon and Starbucks
2007-05-10 18:20:00 Once again, there are awful things going on in our country today...a scare at a Boulder high school, floods of epic proportion in Missouri and wildfires in both California and Georgia. What do our favorite wingnuts decide to highlight on their site today, you ask? Let's take a look...On their front page, in huge, bold print no less, is a headline about those "anti-God" cups that Starbucks is using. I went and read the story, expecting to be exasperated, and while I did feel exasperated, I also felt angry at some of the statements made. The opening paragraph is a good example..."Coffeehouse giant Starbucksis standing by its campaign to put thought-provoking messages on its coffee cupsdespite a national uproar and threat of boycott over a message some felt was"anti-God."Of course they're standing by the campaign! It's their company, and the messages printed on the cups consist of comments made by average citizens wanting to express a viewpoint and open up some dialogue. The c... Faith 2 Action Goes Too Far and Shows Their Ignorance
2007-05-09 22:40:00 This story has angered me, not so much because it's yet another feeble minded attempt at quashing the hate crimes legislation, but because it's just gone too far. Janet Folger of the organization Faith 2 Action , has been vocal in her fight against the hate crimes bill, but something new and disturbing has popped up on her site. Following the flawed notion that a grandmother, pregnant woman or other non-homosexual would receive inadequate justice for any crime committed against them, Folger has designed a 'coupon' for criminals.Excuse me while I take a deep breath here, lol.The coupon indicates that upon redemption, any criminal can receive a reduced sentence for committing an act of violence against the sort of groups I mentioned above. Not only do I find this campaign morally (yes, I used the word morally) offensive, I am also angered that such an organization would give their tacit approval of such violent acts. Furthermore...and I can't seem to reiterate this enough...th... More About: Nora , Ignorance , Goes
Help Protect the Rights of Bloggers
2007-05-09 22:33:00 Since the inception of blogging, we now have a truly free press. Individuals are able to report and sound off on the issues that affect us on a daily basis without the constraints of sponsor pressures with which the major media outlets deal. There is a movement, however, that is looking to restrict or curtail the liberties bloggers have enjoyed.Because of this reality, I've donated to the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) and I've placed a 'button' in the sidebar of this blog to encourage all of you to donate and support this organization. Bush Insults Queen Elizabeth
2007-05-08 17:54:00 I can't make this stuff up, lol! In a speech honoring Queen Elizabeth and celebrating the US alliance with Britain, the Chimperor misspoke and insinuated that Her Majesty was about 200 years older than she actually is. Citing the bicentennial celebrations in which the Queen participated, Bush said..."The American people are proud to welcome your majesty back to the UnitedStates, a nation you've come to know very well. After all you've dined with 10U.S. presidents. You've helped our nation celebrate its bicentennial in 17 -- in1976,"The Queen shot him a look that was absolutely hilarious, and Bush tried to save face. There was a pause in the speech during which the two exchanged facial expressions, and Bush continued..."She gave me a look that only a mother could give a child," Bush said as thecrowd burst into laughter."This is just another in a long list of incidents where Bush has embarrassed himself and, by extension, the United States. Concerned Women of America Obssessing Over Orientation
2007-05-07 21:56:00 Leave it to a bunch of "concerned" women to come up with this one, lol. Still reeling from the passage of the Hate Crimes Bill, an unnamed member of the CWA staff has an article up on the site dealing with some perceived, semantic problems with the bill. What problems could they possibly be talking about, you ask? Well, here's a quote..."H.R. 1592, the "hate crimes" bill just passed by the House, defines "genderidentity" vaguely as "actual or perceived gender-related characteristics." Thebill, however, does not offer a definition for "sexual orientation." In oneironic way, that makes it the more honest of the two bills. While ENDA covers three "sexualorientations," 23 "sexual orientations" actually exist." What follows this excerpt is a list of what CWA is calling "sexual orientations," including pedophilia, necrophilia and beastiality. Once again, homosexuals are lumped into the same stereotypical category as child molesters and the like. I suppose those poor, concerned women are ... Another Day...Another Dose of WingNut Madness
2007-05-07 21:16:00 Tornadoes ripped through the plains states over the weekend, an explosion rocked a Vegas parking garage and Queen Elizabeth is wrapping up her visit to the US. Lots of big stories in the news today, but leave it to the folks over at WorldNetDaily to veer off the beaten path. The top story at WND today involves cups used at Starbucks shops around the world. You read that right...a customer didn't like the words printed on the cup of coffee she purchased. An opinion campaign started by Starbucks, in the interest of sharing ideas and generating discussion, gathered comments and selected some to be featured on the cups as part of their "The Way I See It" project. This particular story is about an Ohio woman who didn't appreciate the "anti-God" sentiment printed on her cup. Here's the actual comment... Penguins Terrorize Fundies...Again
2007-05-07 20:10:00 Apparently, penguins...especially the gay ones, lol...are just too scary to be allowed on the shelves of school and public libraries. To avoid confusion, let me back up just a bit and give you some background. In 2005, a children's book entitled, And Tango Makes Three was released. It tells the true story of two male penguins in New York's Central Park Zoo who were a couple. The zoo staff even provided an egg for the two to hatch after watching them try to "hatch" an egg-shaped rock. The point of the book was to teach children that not all families are the same and that families with same-sex parents can be as warm and loving as any other family.Sounds harmless (and downright cute!), right? Alas, wherever fundies dwell...stupidity will inevitably follow. Since the book's publication, it has been challenged in a variety of arenas and was listed as the American Library Association's most challenged book in 2006. Here is an overview of the controversy surrounding these litt... More About: Again , Fund , Error , Penguin , Dies
The Day After...Hate Crimes Bill Fallout
2007-05-04 21:04:00 Following yesterday's passage of HR 1592, the Hate Crimes Bill, the ultra-conservative pundits were foaming at the mouth....just waiting to launch yet another mass media assault. Here is an overview of the various groups and their statements on the bill...My favorite nutcases at WorldNetDaily have an article up today, under the heading "Life With Big Brother," no less. They also refer to the bill as a "discriminatory federal plan," and try to take credit for the news that Dear Leader would veto. The White House released a statement saying that 1592 was "unnecessary and constitutionally questionable," but my favorite quote comes from none other than Chuck Colson...a man who is apparently better suited for pontificating than for covering up presidential scandals, lol."Former White House insider Chuck Colson, in his Breakpointcommentary, called it a 'Thought Crimes' plan.'It's called the LocalLaw Enforcement Hate Crimes Prevention Act. But this bill is not about hate. It's not eve... More About: After , Day After
WingNut Nugget of the Day
2007-05-01 21:24:00 I just love it when those lovable little nutcases start bloviating...it gives me so much material to work with. Just looking at the title makes me shake my head."Teachers insist: Being 'gay' good"I don't think that any advocacy group is asking anyone to pronounce homosexuality as good or bad. Acceptance, respect and support have always been the goals of our so-called agenda, despite what the pundits might say. This article, true to historical Wing Nut form, tries to make a point without providing much in the way of proof or other substantive content. The opening statement is an excellent example..."A nationally distributed training video produced by a "gay" advocacy group ?which claims it's been shown on more than 100 public television stations ?advises teachers to promote homosexuality as normaland healthy to children as young as kindergarten age, regardless of what valuesthe child has been taught at home. Westboro Update
2007-04-24 19:58:00 Due to some copyright infringement issues, YouTube has yanked the "God Hates the World," music video I referenced yesterday. I hate the idea of giving their website any extra hits, but this video is worth watching once...just so you get an idea of who these idiots really are. You can Google Westboro Baptist Church and look for the link to the video on their page...just try not to vomit when you read the drivel you'll find.As for an interesting side note, YouTube has been flooded with uploaded video responses to the Westboro 'musical.' I only looked at a few, but I found it interesting how much of a response the video had gotten. Unfortunately, I think that's exactly what these lunatics want...publicity, and as many 15 minute blocks of fame they can get their hands on. Thanks to people like Mike Gallagher, they're getting exactly what they want. In lieu of picketing the Virginia Tech funerals, the church accepted an offer from the radio host to appear on his show.
