Going green was all the rage in home improvement and new home construction last year.  And yes, it’s true – with the end of 2007, we did see the expiration of a tax benefit for those making qualifying green improvements to their homes.  But that doesn’t mean that green is dead at all.  Actually, it’s quite the contrary.  Making your home as green as possible is still worth every last bit of effort. 2008-01-08 23:12:00
Have no doubt about it… 2008 has some big things in store for real estate and for home lending too.  From more foreclosures to tightening lending practices, this year could be one of the most memorable years we’ve had in a long time.  But in the world we live in today, where technology plays a bigger role than it ever has before, chances are good that the year in tech will trump even the most interesting non-technology happenings of the year when it comes to real estate. Humble Housing Predictions for the Near Term Future
2007-12-13 05:39:00
This year has given us all quite the challenge of keeping up with the roller coaster that is real estate.  It’s definitely been a challenging year in the world of real estate to say the least!  Naturally, things will always continue to change and with that, here are my own humble predictions for what we’ll be seeing a lot more of when it comes to housing – feel free to make whatever you will from them… Downsizing Goes Big Time Plenty of new construction will continue to take place and people will always be building new homes.  But I think the day of the McMansion might be coming to a halt.  People just want a simpler, more practical lifestyle.  For background, consider that housing goes in cycles and history tends to repeat itself.  We’ve downsized before – just look at the tiny ranch homes of the 1940’s and 50’s.  I don’t think we’ll go quite that far this time though! Tips for the Winter Open House
2007-12-10 19:43:00
The community where I live is totally loaded with both historical and architecturally significant homes, most notably from the post Civil War era through the early 1900’s.  The homes really are stunningly beautiful and most are impeccably restored and maintained.  No surprise they’re expensive too! Real Estate Investing Faces Inevitable Changes
2007-12-10 18:43:00
There’s one thing about real estate that we can rely on – it’s not always volatile.  Yes, while real estate (and real estate investing especially) certainly has its ups and downs, they usually happen over time and not in panic.  Anyone keeping a clear head and paying close attention to the markets should be able to spot coming trends from a mile away. Let’s face it – no matter how annoying it would be to live next to this home during the holiday season, you’ve got to admit the display is awesome and totally ingenious.  And yes, it is indeed real, not made up for the internet.  Just ask the neighbors in Mason, Ohio and the police that have to direct traffic. How to Survive the Holidays While Selling Your Home
2007-12-05 16:44:00
Selling your home over the holiday season?  Sure, it’s statistically relevant that buyers are few and far between during the month of December.  They’re just too busy getting ready and celebrating the holidays themselves.  But sometimes we have no choice when to have our house on the market.  If you’re home is up for sale for the holidays, take advantage where you can.  Here’s how… Combine Entertaining With Selling. 11 Must Read Daily Real Estate Blogs
2007-12-03 00:24:00
Believe me when I say there’s a ton of excellent mortgage and real estate blogs out there – way too many to list, in fact.  But for a unique spin on the market as well as perspective that makes sense to anyone interested in real estate anywhere, there are some blogs that really are masters of their niche.  Here are 11 real estate blogs that I would most certainly rate as daily must reads without any hesitation at all… 1.  The Phoenix Real Estate Guy Jay at the Phoenix Real Estate Guy blog is sort of like the local guy that’s read nationwide.  Covers the Phoenix real estate market with ease, but introduces great unique ideas, concepts, and perspective on the big picture at the same time while remaining friendly and personable.  A really easy favorite. Real Estate Bloggers: Be a Friend
2007-11-27 22:28:00
Being in the real estate business, it’s easy to start taking the whole process of the business for granted.  We’ve all been there – buyer’s and seller’s agents falsely assuming that home shoppers know or understand the business more than they really do, mortgage brokers quickly spouting off with the latest numbers and figures without bothering to explain to the borrower what they actually mean in real terms, and so on. Happy Thanksgiving to All!
2007-11-21 22:56:00
It’s Thanksgiving tomorrow.  Yes the big Turkey Day seems to be earlier this year than ever.  Of course, that’s really just another way of saying, “Where in the heck did this year go?” Not only are we celebrating our annual ritual of Thanksgiving, but traditionally it’s also the big kick off for the rest of the year’s seemingly ongoing holiday season – the big Christmas parade on TV, black Friday shopping madness, the whole shebang.
