GA Traffic Counts: Free for Everyone!
2007-04-21 09:26:00
My friend and fellow commercial agent, Wade Sonenberg of the Sonenberg Company, has recently created a mashup of Georgia DOT traffic counts and Google Maps. It is a great tool for commercial agents and good knowledge for local residents. Wade had this to say about his new mashup:Commercial Realtors, shopping center investors, and retailers used to have only two options for finding Georgia DOT traffic counts: either pay hundreds of dollars for programs, or navigate the Georgia DOT?s web site which requires downloading programs to view maps with hardly legible names. Now there is an easier (and free) way! We have just introduced the ?Beta? version of Georgia DOT Traffic Count Mashup, which combines Georgia?s publicly available traffic count data with Google?s easy to Google Maps interface. Good work Wade and I am certain your visitors will skyrocket once the word is out.

I recently stumbled across a great video over at the Harper Team blog about how technology is changing our world. It reminds me of one of the best books I have ever read: The World is Flat. Population trends, education trends, and technology trends all indicate that the world we live in today is going to be drastically different tomorrow. This video helps explains why...

Monthly Economic Outlook

Wachovia Econ omic s Group has released it's Month ly Outlook and David Bell, Vice President of Business Banking, had these comments about the report:With all the recent activity in the stock market this past week, I have highlighted a few comments from our economic team below. We believe real GDP growth will be held back the first half of 2007 due to the ongoing unwinding of the housing boom and some slowing in consumer spending.By mid year, the drag from housing will diminish and the Federal Reserve should hold rates unchanged. Much of the deterioration in the subprime mortgage market is in loans issued in 2006. This leads us to believe that faulty underwriting and mortgage fraud have more to do with the rise in delinquency rates than a general deterioration in credit quality. Delinquency rates in subprime auto loans and credit cards do not show anywhere near the deterioration as in mortgages.Special thanks toDavid Bell of Wachovia for providing this report. Contact Da...

Google Apps, Zoho and the future of real estate online
2007-03-08 04:13:00
I was recently sent the below article from a Subscriber. The weird part is...he called me to ask if it was okay if he forwarded me the story and the call interrupted me and my assistant's conversation about Google Apps. The story below is about Google Apps, and other similar web services. I had been kicking around the idea for months, but just happened to begin the process of analyzing and understanding the pros and cons of going completely web-based. The result is still not determined, but I am testing some things behind the scenes. With that said, I do use Zoho Planner daily. It's a great way to create tasks and monitor their completion between me and my assistant.Read the entire article from Duct Tape Marketing, but here is an excerpt:The new Holy Grail, if you follow new things, is something I would like to officially term the Softwareless Office. At present, most any function that you might need a computer or working using that computer to accomplish, can be done with an...

Cherokee Commissioners, Private School Teachers & Legos
2007-03-08 04:05:00
What do Cher okee County Commission ers, Private School Teachers and Lego s have in common? Could it be Socialism?I found this story about a teacher in Seattle to be very interesting and then I thought maybe it relates to Cherokee County somehow. Read through and let me know what you think?A Seattle public school class, taught by Ann Pelo, was building an elaborate LEGO town when it was suddenly (yet accidentally) destroyed. The teachers in the class decided this was somehow a perfect opportunity to expand on the concept that private property ownership is evil. One teacher said that they felt that the children were building a city that “mirrored that of a class-based, capitalist society — a society that we teachers believe to be unjust and oppressive.” As such, the classroom became LEGO free as the teachers banned the activity until a “social and political understanding of ownership and economic equity… from a perspective of social justice” was agreed upon by the classmat...

Transportation Sales Tax proposal gets mixed Reviews
2007-03-06 22:37:02
The AJC recently reported...A bold plan that would put high-impact transportation projects such as tunnels, optional toll lanes, interstate truck lanes and a relocated Northern Arc in metro Atlanta and across the state met with mixed reactions Thursday, when a powerful House Republican filed a resolution to make it happen. If approved by voters statewide, the measure would add 1 cent to the state sales tax for 10 years and would bypass the staff of the state Department of Transportation, creating a new, far smaller organization that would manage the $2 billion a year estimated to come from the tax. The measure for an amendment to the state Constitution, HR 509, was filed by House Transportation Committee Chairman Vance Smith (R-Pine Mountain) and Rep. Johnny Floyd (R-Cordele), vice chairman of the committee. Transit advocates reacted strongly to the plan, both for and against it. It snubs commuter rail, which elicited the condemnation of some transit groups. But it w...
