The face of the auction industry is changing. Depending on your age, auctions may mean the final sale of a farmer going out of business, the government selling seized merchandise or hot cars on the block at Barret-Jackson’s sales. No matter what your perspective is, I imagine it will be challenged in short order as auctions become more popular in all aspects of life. Look at two ordinary things we now see differently; aspirin and orange juice. Don’t laugh now but I can’t remember the last time I took an aspirin for a headache because of so many other options, but millions of people take a small aspirin every day as part of their heart health plan. The main reason for the closing of our two real estate offices in Ocala was the low number of real estate closings that all real estate professionals were experiencing. Having large numbers of listings was not a problem; but having enough qualified buyers and closings was a problem.As I looked for a solution to my problems the benefits of auctions kept coming to the surface. As defined in our recent course, a real estate auction is the firm and time defined sale of real estate by competitive bids. I recently finished attending the Florida Auctioneer Academy in Apopka to become an auctioneer in Florida. I am currently attending a class at the National Auctioneer Association in Overland Park, Kansas to specialize in selling real estate at auction.In our market today with so many properties available it is very hard to predict when a property will sell. An auction gives the seller the opportunity to pick the day the property will sell.
