Las Vegas Library Circulation Changes

The Las Vegas - Clark County Library District has made some changes to their circulation policies. Starting today, the item limit increases to 50; you can request up to 20 items; items may be renewed up to 3 times; and your fine threshold is now ten dollars.50 items checked out may seem like a ton of books. But, it is easy to reach this limit if you have kids who all want different things. It is always a good thing to keep a variety of books around to keep the kids interested in reading. Some other good tips from Reading is Fundamental are:* Have children choose their own books as soon as they start showing a preference for one over another. * Find out what your child is interested in, and help choose books that are related to his or her interests. * Ask friends, family, and teachers what books their children have enjoyed; try a book swap. * If your child does not like a book you are reading together, put it away. Reading is a fun time to share, not a time to fight. * Again, Again...

Las Vegas Watering Restrictions - Fall Schedule

Starting September 1st, Fall watering restrictions take place in the Las Vegas Valley. Watering is reduced to three assigned days per week. Your days may be Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (Group A, C, or E) or Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays (Group B, D, F). Sunday watering is not permitted. More information can be found at the Southern Nevada Water Authority. This time I have pictures!Just to refresh your memory, The District at Green Valley Ranch is a mixed use luxury condo project located in Henderson , Nevada . This is the ideal live, work, and play environment. Las Vegas Recreation and Classes

The City of Las Vegas Fall Leisure Guide is now available. Registration for Fall I session started on August 18 and continues through September 7th. You can register online, by phone, or in person. There are quite a few offerings this Fall. There are classes for all age levels and all schedules. Here are a few highlights I found while browsing the offerings:For kids there are tons of gymnastic, cheer, Tae Kwon Do, arts and crafts, music, and sports classes. They even offer Spanish classes and tutoring.Parents, do you need a night out? Some of the community centers have special nights were you can drop the kids off for a few hours. During this time the kids will play games and eat pizza. Not bad.Adults can also participate in cooking, scrapbooking, dancing, and exercise classes and workshops. Las Vegas Foreclosure Story

A recent episode of State of Nevada (local NPR show) featured a local woman who is on the verge of losing her home. It is an interesting episode because the homeowner doesn't really evoke your sympathy (I don't think she wanted to evoke sympathy). She comes forward, tells her story, and gives people a good lesson at her expense.Basically, the homeowner bought a home in Vegas in 2004. She and her husband used the equity in that home to buy three or four other homes (investments). They were fortunate enough to sell those homes and break even. Later, decided to use equity again to make an investment in commercial property. That did not work out. Meanwhile, health problems and the real estate down turn (her husband works for a new home builder) took their toll on their income. Also, her ARM is up and the payments on the house have skyrocketed. Now, she has about 90 days to try to sell her home as a short sale.Her story is typical of many others here in Vegas and around the country. ...

Las Vegas does offer curbside recycling. Call Republic Services and get your recycling bins. They are free.Another way you can help the environment is to opt for paperless billing. Most of our local utilities offer this option. This means you will get your bills online, not via mail. This definitely saves time - no more bills to open, process, and shred.
