Boeing Files Protest Over USAF Tanker Contract

As my readers know, I’ve been following the developments in the U.S. Air Force contract which was awarded to Northrop Grummon Corp and its partner Europeean Aeronautic Defense and Space Co (EADS). My interest mainly concerns the effect this contract could have on not only Mobile Alabama, but also Pensacola Florida and other areas of the Gulf Coast.  Los Angeles-based Northrop and its bidding partner, EADS North America, won the 179-plane contract on Feb. 29. The companies plan to assemble their tankers in a pair of new plants at the Brookley Field Industrial Complex, creating 1,500 jobs. As a Pensacola real estate agent, I always recommend home inspections for my buyers (and sellers too). Most homes have the typical issues that agents and inspectors see often enough, but sometimes unusual “modifications” are encountered. And rednecks are especially good at creative modifications. Many people don’t think of Florida as having a lot of rednecks, but Pensacola is often jokingly referred to as LA (Lower Alabama). When I grew up in Pensacola it was a much smaller town than it is now. The east side of town generally consisted of families with higher incomes and children that drove the better cars, i.e. not old pick up trucks. The west side of town was considered the more redneck area. The west side crowd used to regularly congregate at large parking lots on Perdido Key and throw some pretty wild parties. Pensacola Market Data For Residential Properties On Pensacola Beach And Perdido KeyJanuary 2008   The numbers in the table show the Pensacola real estate sales on the beaches are picking up, albeit slowly. I included the table from December 2007 for comparison purposes. As of the writing of this report there are 5 Perdido Key Condo sales Pending and 7 Pensacola Beach Condo sales Pending. But we’ve also seen an increase of almost 100 new active listings on the beaches. In this market, the only way to sell a condo on the Pensacola beaches is to be the best value out there. Pensacola Real Estate Market Data Weekly Update For Residential Listings In Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties     The previous week did not bring the changes I was hoping for. After the January 27 week of a 100 sales, I thought things might be starting to pick up. But then last week came in at only 56 sales. And to make matters worse, 12 of those 56 sales were Beach Club Condos on Pensacola Beach. While it is nice to see some sales at the beach, 12 units in the same condo selling all at once does not really factor in to how the local real estate market is performing. The sales of these Pensacola Beach condos is what brought up the average sold price in the table. Residential Properties in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties   The table shows the Pensacola Florida real estate market data for the month of January. Sales of homes are very low, and inventory levels have not dropped much. When looking at my weekly reports, inventory levels have actually been increasing since the beginning of 2008. On January 31 we had 6348 active listings on the market, but as of the writing of this report, February 5, there are 6395 listings active. This trend back up is a sign that our market has not begun to correct, and may be heading even lower.
