The Closing of Kingsbury Middle School: Is it time for Erin Brockovich?

A  Recent Community Meeting with the Superintendent of School s Fails to Ease Parent Concerns. This one is important, and it is thorough. It comes from the recent community meeting on December 10th about closing Kingsbury Middle School. We have spent weeks on this article. There was much for us to learn. We hope we got it right, and that we  found some balance between fair play and reason. We trust it will so spring forth. We realize potential exists for people to read this and form opinion from it, or of it, and opinion will range from agreement to none. We have done our best to express the positions of both sides. In so doing,  however, we realize it is easy for one see how we feel, which is it is premature to close Kinbsbury Middle School at this time. Information of the "Duh" Kind: And then it Grows on You. Sometimes it really tickles us. Sometimes it’s really valuable, and sometimes it kinda tickles us and is kinda valuable. This was one of those, and we thought you might appreciate seeing what we see sometimes as part of the daily deluge of information that crosses our desks and screens. This one came from REALTOR Magazine online. The teaser used to get our attention was "How To Deal With Unreasonable Clients." It was published the first day of this year, and it got our attention all right. Not that we didn’t know already, but we certainly wanted to see if there was something in it that we didn’t. Nevada is the Fastest Growing State in the Country? Again!

We took a rest for a year, but now we’re back on it. While we’re updating for the new year (immediately below), we thought you might appreciate this. We got the idea from Cynthia Failor from First American Title who sent us an email about this a few days ago. Seems that Nevada is the fastest growing state in the country again. We had been for 19 years in a row, but fell off last year. Apparently Arizona was more attractive in 2006 for some reason. Now though, it appears normalcy has returned and we’re back on growth top once more. (Probably it was more newsworthy that we fell off for a year, than we’ve returned.) Still growth intrepid, Arizona is now 2nd, but wanting we presume. So while the snow keeps on falling, we’re updating your Lake Tahoe Real Estate Blog . We suspect it will take four days to do so. What, Existing Home Sales Rise? What it Means for South Lake Tahoe.

A Hint of Stability? That’s good news, but there’s been good news for Buyers in South Lake Tahoe for some time now. Sales of existing homes rose by .4% (that’s "point four percent") in November, the National Association of Realtors (NAR) reported today. (See below for more on South Lake Tahoe.) South Lake Tahoe gave us a great year… and we’re grateful for the terrific people we met. They came to one of our public seminars at the end of last  year. Retired school teachers, Bob and Janet are wonderful, kind people. Folks every one of us really want to go out there and win for… big time. They trusted us, and our hearts went out to them. The Same Old Song and Dance for South Lake Tahoe and Beyond. Home prices have fallen for the tenth month in a row, according to the Case-Shiller price index released Wednesday by Standard & Poor’s. The report indicates that 11 of 20 U.S. metro area show record-low growth rates. South Lake Tahoe, of course, is not among these areas. Once again, this news is spun as bad news for the housing sector. In fact this time it’s called “grim’ by Robert Shiller, chief economist at MacroMarkets LLC and co-developer of the index. As Usual, Tiger and Spanky Rule Yule at Our House in South Lake Tahoe . It’s like this at every Christmas . Spanky gets ready, then helps all of us open presents. He has his own Christmas sock full of treats and goodies. It’s a full attention day for him. And he likes it. Spanky has to play with every wrapping, and he particularly likes shredding anything cardboard. Tiger of course is above all of this pedestrian dog foolishness. Maxene is the master present passer. We weren’t kidding about the cardboard. Isn’t that a nice foot at frame left. That’s snow on the deck beyond. We were able to sneak in a few frames without dogs and cats in it. But they didn’t like it though.  At the end of it, Tiger has his way with some red ribbon… he’d like a little sashimi on it also, and he too has his own Christmas sock as well.

The News Just Isn’t What It Used to Be! Donno about you, but we’re tired of all of this Spears attention. Probably as much as we’re tired of the joke that our news media has become. All of them news rooms and Spears buffoons should be harpooned. Does the first amendment cover stupid? Don’t answer that. We know. Unfortunately.  The world is terror stricken, we’re fighting two wars, the price of gas has gone through the roof, and the value of the house under it is heading for the floor. South Lake Tahoe in White and Blue.

When the Sun Comes Out in South Lake Tahoe after a Snowstorm. This the first thing we see when the sun comes out at our house in South Lake  Tahoe after a good snowstorm. The sky is outrageous, a bright brilliant treasure in shades of blue. First we see it off our deck overlooking the forest beyond. This was a few hours ago, after the early mornning snow plows cleared the cul de sac we live on, and before trash pick-up, which  happens here on Thursdays, rain or snow. We get more snow than this in a good storm. This one was about a foot, here a bit above lake level. We got lots more at the top of the mountain. Come visit, it’s heaven on earth up here right now.

The Snow We?ve Been Looking For in South Lake Tahoe.

A Big-Time South Lake Tahoe White Christmas Holiday Season. For the first time in a few years, we’ve got a real snow for our Christmas holiday season here in South Lake Tahoe. We woke up to more than a foot of fresh snow here on our deck at near lake level (6,500 feet), which means we got a lot more than that at the tops of our mountains (10,000 feet or so). And it’s still coming down. Like the one that our son Olivier took here, it’s tricky to make a quick hand-held snap shot taken in a snow flurry interesting; it’s pretty much a mix of white and black. But it’s gold to us. Even the snow plows we hear out on our streets right now sound wonderful. It’s the color and sound of a great holiday season for a town that could use it. Both parties in a transaction get along… most of the time. If I happen to close the door to our bath when taking my morning shower, I’m normally met with Spanky and Tiger in concert, waiting at the foot of our bed. All of us with pets know that they are very much "people" to us. Sometimes they’re also performing metaphors. On this day, rather than thinking something normal like, "how cute", for some reason I thought about buyers and sellers. Sometimes we can get them to get along, and it’s easy. Other times they’re like well…, cats and dogs, and not as well behaved as Spanky and Tiger are here. Spanky went to obedience school… five times. He figured out "obedience" means being good for an hour, which was the length of the class. Tiger thinks obedience class is too pedestrian to even talk about. Maxene got him a leash, and the one time she put it on him, Tiger looked at her like she had lost her mind. He just lay...
